The service is always impeccable with every server and bartender demonstrating strong knowledge of the menu and the details of each dish and drink. They have such a variety of flavors and cocktails you can't find anywhere else in the area. My favorite dish is the oxtail with a side of their homemade roti, although the roti is traditionally used for the curry, they complement each other so well. We usually don't venture out on Valentine's Day, but we made an exception this year when a friend suggested going to Oyo. Thankful we made a reservation because it did get crowded. They had a special Valentine's Day menu and we couldn't order anything from the regular menu. Guess we'll have to come back. 1. Paella Oyo - was very very flavorful and spicy - spicy for my palate but the staff kept refilling my water glass. (THANK YOU! Lol) I really appreciated that they removed items from the paella I can't/won't eat (pork and peas) 2. Oxtail stew - hubby really enjoyed this dish. Came for an early Mother's Day celebration on a busy Saturday and had an incredible experience! The South American and Caribbean flavors were so rich, bold, and vibrant in every dish. I loved the jerk pork tacos! The pork was juicy, tender, and aromatic, and the mango-papaya salsa added a refreshing sweetness. I also tried the paella Oyo that my sister ordered which was sooo yummy and full of protein. The small size was more than enough! My mom ordered the oxtail stew which wasn't on their brunch/lunch menu (dinner only), but I really appreciate that they were accommodating to make that dish for her. I've never had oxtail and it was delicious--tender, perfectly sweet and savory, and paired well with the plantains. The other dishes that my family ordered were hits too (jerk pork shoulder and seafood paella). We also tried the ripe plantains pancake Oscar for a sweet treat. I love anything marshmallow, so the brûléed marshmallow cream that blanketed the pancakes was heavenly. It also came with a plantain on top and a few other fruits to balance out the sweetness. Overall, we left full and all around very satisfied. The staff showed us such warm hospitality and came around often to check on us, despite being an almost packed house. I came here for lunch with a co-worker and the place was deserted. There was only 1 other party. However, I heard this place is hopping in the evenings. Inside the decor is very colorful and lively. I was happy to see that they have a lunch specials menu, so I'm not overwhelmed by too many choices. Most of the items are "jerk" and they have a few vegetarian options too. I never know what to expect when I see "jerk" flavoring, but I expect some heat, which was missing from the items we ordered. The food was well seasoned, but lacked any heat. The space is vibrant and spacious. They have a full menu and full bar including mocktails and delicious drinks like a sparkling mango lemonade that felt like a vacation drink. I liked my food even more the second time! I got the braised short rib for an entree and Oyo Caipirinha for a drink. The meat was so tender and tasted great!!! I came to where there was a band setting up their instruments so I'm guessing they do live music? Idk on what times/days though. The rice got me full pretty quickly but the protein choices were tasty, but I want to highlight the star of this establishment and that is the freaking banana bread pudding. Till this date, it is the BEST Banana Bread Pudding I've ever had. Absolutely spectacular. Sensational. Fantastic. I ran out of synonyms to describe the dessert but it's so good! We were seated in the patio, with beautiful weather and hanging plants. My only slight qualm would be the extremely low rattan chairs, making it awkward to eat and a bit uncomfortable. My first time having Guyanese food, and I must say it left me wanting more. All the dishes were bursting with bold flavors. I loved the fresh tropical salad, the tender grilled octopus, savory with a hint of heat beef patties with a flaky buttery crust and most of all, the jerk chicken was amazing!!! For a party of 5, we did family style and ordered: -tropical salad: refreshing and the addition of jackfruit compliments the salad very well -baked mac and cheese with crab $22:this was probably our least favorite in comparison to all the other dishes this was very basic. It wasn't really creamy and can be skipped. -island salmon $25: salmon was cooked perfectly overall a a good dish if you enjoy a fillet of salmon. -jerk pork shoulder $26: the pork was so tender and delicious. The black beans and rice were so good! Favorite dish! -paella oyo $33: at this point we felt like we had a lot of rice already (and the salmon, and then the pork shoulder) but the paella was still very good and flavorful. Girls night done right! We ordered everything family style so we could maximize what we could try. I think my favorite dish was the oxtail with dumplings and sweet plantains. A close second was the Jamaican jerk pork. These dishes were truly bursting with flavor. The rookie move for me was ordering the sweet plantains as one of our appetizers. Since both entrees came with sweet plantains, neither of us felt it was needed - but still delicious! I would also skip the ceviche. It was a cooked seafood ceviche, which is totally fine, but was overcooked and a bit tough. I would skip this dish too. We also split the dessert sampler, which we all felt was lacking for us. We felt that there were too many contrasting flavors and just couldn't quite get on board with the items. Lastly, service was great! I wish I had better things to say about this place as the other Yelpers did, and rarely do I give such a mediocre rating, but this place did not hit as I expected it to. I came based on the high ratings on Yelp. It was Father's Day, so the menu was modified, and maybe that is why the items were limited. First, I have to say that the decor is aesthetically pleasing and the art is amazing. I liked how welcoming the interior is. It is also a larger space, so I like how everyone is spread out. We came in with reservations, so we got seated quickly. The service was very slow, understandably as it was Father's Day. It took me a while to decide on something and there wasn't a kids' menu, so it was hard to decide. I have been to some impressive Caribbean restaurants where I left so happily satisfied, so my bar was set high. We went with: -Jerk chicken-1/5 overcooked and just no...the meat was dry. It needed sauce. I felt like I was eating cardboard -- took a bite and couldn't do it. -Seafood platter - 2/5 For $65, we were expecting more. It was simply an appetizer, all cold and underwhelming. -Pancake Oscar - 4/5 This was the only thing my child would eat and he enjoyed it.
