    Platter with oysters

First time there. It reminded me of old Florida and a local place. We were excited to try it. We traveled because hubby loves oysters and restaurants are hard to find. The inside was clean and cozy. There were 4 other tables occupied. Waitress greeted us quickly and gave us menus. We ordered . My hubby wanted the large serving of fried oysters, we had no problem with the market charge for the oysters . Food came out quickly but my husband said something about the amount of fried oysters. They were cut up and fried in very small pieces . They were the size of popcorn shrimp. Hubby ate them. My salad was great! Service was good. Couldn't ask for better. It was a disappointing visit for $45.00 before tip.

Our expensive but yummy gator appetizer- not enough for two hungry adults, didn't care for the honey mustard dipping sauce.

Oysters located on US Hwy. 19 in Crystal River has been in business since 1962 and known for their fresh seafood and delicious fried chicken. The epidemic has hit this family owned business hard and unfortunately it has shown in their food. The exterior appearance hasn't changed one bit since we moved here in 2005 and the interior definitely needs an update. Mismatched chairs at tables and the walls need a good paint job. Hopefully their business will pick up soon so they can get back on their feet and do some improvements. I had called prior to going to see if they had a Friday special of AUCE fish (which is quite popular in Citrus County) and their waitress told me yes. After we were seated and ordered our drinks, our waiter came over to take our order. We said we wanted the AUCE fish fry and he seemed confused. I explained I called ahead to verify that they had that special. So he went into the kitchen and came back and said no they didn't have it - that the person who answered the phone made a mistake! Not wanting to leave and find another place especially after ordering our drinks we decided to stay. We started with their appetizer of fried gator tail. We love gator tail and was interested in seeing how their gator measured up to our favorite seafood restaurant in town. Oyster's gator tail is delicious. Prepared well, the small chunks were very tender and not greasy- the ONLY disappointment was the size of the portion for the price. Definitely overpriced. We both ordered their blackened fish which came with two side dishes. I chose a side salad with blue cheese dressing and collard greens. We were told that the size of the fish was as long as the waiter's forearm to appease us because of the snafu of the misinformation of the Friday special. Our fish came out a decent size, cooked just the way we like and the blackening seasoning was really nice. Not too blackened or too spicy, I would definitely order it again. However, my sides were under par. My salad came out and it was basically just plain iceberg lettuce in big chunks with one little carrot shred on top just teasing me! No other vegetables- a lot more carrot, a couple of cucumber slices and a few wedges of fresh tomato would have went a long way. My lettuce wasn't even fresh because I was served several brown pieces! Sad that they would serve it that way. My blue cheese dressing was okay, I could tell it was store bought and an inferior one at that! Oysters should buy a better quality or add some fresh blue cheese crumbles to dress up that bland dressing. A few croutons wouldn't hurt either. My second choice of a side was collard greens. Again, a major disappointment. From a can and bland to boot - salt and pepper added some flavor but some hot sauce or pickled pepper vinegar would have improved it somewhat. No bread, rolls or biscuits just two little overly brown hush puppies were offered with our meals. I never eat or enjoy hush puppies. They're usually extremely greasy and dry. Better to have a different bread option! For a Southern style restaurant I would have expected a huge pot of homemade collards cooking on the stove in their kitchen! Many farms around here sell them real cheap and since their business was slow- only a few other tables I think they had plenty of time to do little things to improve their food. Make a gallon of homemade salad dressing, prep a fresher and better salad, homemade vegetables and baked bread or biscuits. We have been supporting family owned restaurants whenever we can because of their situation from our pandemic. I truly hope this lapse in quality and quantity of food is temporary and they get back on track so they last many more years to come!

This is an old restaurant in crystal river with the best fried chicken. It is freshly cooked to order within 25 minutes. It's crispy and moist. The mashed potatoes are good and we got extra gravy. Place could use updating.

I was camping in Dunnellon and needed to go to the Verizon store, saw this little hole in the wall and the word oysters and thought.... yep. So glad I did. My friend and I had a delicious meal and the prices were so reasonable. He had a salad and clam chowder.... he said it was great, I thought he was nuts to get a salad. The clam chowder was really good though, a tad salty. That may just be me, I think everything is salty. I had the fisherman's platter with 3 fish. Shrimp, scallops and Grouper. For my sides I got fries and Collards. Oh and it came with two of the best Hush Puppies I've ever had in my life, and I lived in SC. Oh, an the condiments!! Best tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce ever. The waitress was terrific...... I was patting myself on the back for taking a chance on Oysters. Especially since we went early and there were like two cars on the lot..... when we left there were no empty tables. The views were fun, saw a guy riding along on a unicycle and a monster truck on a trailer on 19/98

Family from Williston, FL, Pennsylvania, Texas and Canada!

BEST SEAFOOD IN CRYSTAL RIVER! Thank you, Mr. Bunch and staff for the excellent service and amazing food tonight! We had a big rowdy bunch and your staff took care of our every need with a smile! I think we tasted it all! From the apps of gator tail, coconut shrimp and mozzarella sticks to the main entrees of your famous fried chicken, shrimp, grouper and oysters....if I could give you 10 stars I would! Thank you! We made some fun memories at Oysters!

Our server, Grace, was fantastic--super friendly and constantly checking in on us, refilling waters and making sure everything was perfect. We ordered the four-person seafood boil, and wow--it did not disappoint. It comes with shrimp, mussels, corn, crab, potatoes, sausage, crawfish, onion, and garlic. There was a ton of food; we ate an unbelievable amount and still had leftovers, which says a lot considering I'm a 6'5" guy. The dark horse of the boil was honestly the onions. After soaking up all those Cajun juices, they were absolutely to die for. The wait can be a bit hefty, but they're pretty efficient, and it is 100% worth it. I'm thinking management must have changed because wow the staff has been better. We both ordered the same thing which we loved from our last trip 2 years ago, the Royal Red Alfredo. We get our dish and it is clearly not what we ordered last time but figure we haven't seen our waitress for 10 minutes and she never even checked on us. We had been out all day so we're starving. Oh, worth mentioning...it was my Birthday. Didnt even get a "Happy Birthday" after mentioning it to our waitress. My mother had to get a refill from the bar. The more we eat the more we realize this wasn't what we ordered, but rather the Shrimp Scampi variant. We call for the manager who argues with us over what an Alfredo sauce is which clearly it is not...he swears it is and that it has separated into God knows what as all we see is a soppy mess of butter and garlic. I show him a picture from Yelp of another customer's Alfredo from the restaurant we are CURRENTLY sitting in and told this is an old picture...We both realize we're getting gaslit as we know what an alfredo sauce is and had the exact dish so we know what it looks like. We agreed that we ate the food and will pay the price for the scampi dish they served us which is $2 cheaper than what we actually ordered. They refused to lower the bill so we left and paid without tipping. I've never had an experience quite like this where the manager will not even work with you. Not even an apology...we will never be back here again. You can judge for yourself if that looks like Alfredo to you. If you want straight seafood, this place might be alright, but the service we received was absolutely terrible.

First of all, the drive out there can take some time, especially if you get stuck behind a driver who seemed to almost stop at every hairpin turn...not just slow down but crawl to almost a stop. There aren't a lot of spots where you can legally pass so we just had to hope they get off the road or take a turn before we get to our destination. As luck would have it, they turned right into Peck's Old Port Cove. Doh! Upon entering, we requested outdoor seating and the hostess gave us a couple of menus and two sets of silverware and instructed to head out and find a table we liked. We secured a table right by the water. After reading reviews and checking out the menu, my wife and I both ordered the almond crusted fish with lobster cream sauce and with fries, cole slaw and hush puppies. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry and the views and refreshing breeze more than made up for it. While waiting for our food, we were served some complimentary fried string onions to munch on. The fish was prepared well. Flaky white fish (which we were told was farm-raised swai, aka basa which Google indicated is related to catfish but didn't taste like it) in a nice almond breading and a sauce that perfectly complemented the fish. The cole slow and hush puppies were also good. My wife and I thought the portions were generous and we wouldn't be able to finish it...but we ended up part of the clean plate club as we ate all of it. We're so glad we made it out here...good food and good ambience. Lunch for 2 with tip came out to just over $46. Unfortunately, the service we received was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Before arriving at 4pm, I called and was told the wait would be about 20 minutes. We showed up 30 minutes later, the restaurant didn't look busy, and there were plenty of open seats at the bar, so we sat down. The bartender with pigtails completely ignored us. Eventually, a second bartender helped us. We were very low-maintenance customers we started with waters and took time to look at the menu. Service was slow from the beginning. When the bartender finally returned to take our order, she cut me off mid-question to help someone else. We ordered the Low Country Boil ($60) and a side salad as an appetizer. I ordered a Tito's lemon drop shot, and my friend ordered one of their canned vodka cocktails with a glass. The canned cocktail arrived without a glass, and my shot never came. Meanwhile, new customers sat down next to us and were immediately greeted, given menus, and served drinks before I ever received mine. My lemon drop shot finally arrived about 15 minutes later with the explanation that it took time to "mull the lemon." Our food arrived without the salad, crawfish, or sausage that were supposed to come with the boil. Since getting the bartender's attention had already been difficult, we started eating because we were starving after paddleboarding. Halfway through the meal, the bartender brought the salad and said it was supposed to come out earlier and joked that she would eat it if we didn't want it which felt unprofessional, especially since it was ordered as an appetizer. To make matters more confusing, another table had received the crawfish that were supposed to be part of our order and had to give them to us themselves. The bartender never checked on us, never refilled drinks, and never followed up about the missing items until we flagged her down. When the bill came, she told us she removed my friend's canned vodka cocktail and discounted my Tito's lemon drop shot from $14 down to $7. If she did indeed charged me half price for that lemon drop shot its was because it took her so long to get it to me (almost like she forgot the order). I find it hard to believe that a lemondrop shot is $14 but an oyster shooter with Titos is $8.I politely asked if anything could be done to account for the incomplete meal and inattentive service. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, the bartender became argumentative and raised her voice, saying she was short-staffed and working alone, which was clearly not the case. Her way of resolving the issue was to place another order of what we got which made NO sense at this point. As my friend was signing the checks, the bartender told her she has five kids. If that's the case, then she should be more than capable of handling the volume we experienced and the low-maintenance customers we were. In that moment, the interaction felt immature and unprofessional, especially after the level of service we had just received. I'm not someone who skips tipping I usually tip well but since nothing was done to make the situation right, I chose not to leave one. We left and went down the road for drinks, where the bartenders took pride in their service and they received the 30% tip I originally intended to leave here. Thank you for an unforgettable Valentine's Day experience.

It's not the same quality or tastes. Let us go down memory lane here & revisit our last conversation, we had with you all there, last visits. You told us the story that the new owner was so dedicated to keeping the recipes the same, that they offered the one person a higher salary to stay on, because they were the ONLY person that knew how to make the original Clam Chowder, that everyone loved. You told us to our faces, my husband & I, that he was the only person that knew how to make the Clam chowder & you KNEW that you all had a LOYAL CUSTOMER BASE & FOLLOWING that loved your food & you were NEVER going to change the recipes. You told us you offered the man a bigger salary to stay on. You assured us the new owner wasn't going to change the recipes, just give the place "a makeover." We drove hours to get to Dan's on Saturday. We get there & there is a new sign out-front, its super cute, the building is painted very cute, looks like a super cute little Maine lobster shack in New England somewhere you would visit on Vacation. Now, the Local Florida vibes & charm, all gone. Asked for Tabasco & you don't even have any. In a southern Seafood Restaurant. Insanity. We order our usual Haddock sammy's, fries & Fried oyster app. The fried oysters batter is different, it's sweet. The two sauces on the side are different. Tastes like bottled Miracle whip & sweet cocktail sauce with no horseradish at all. Both sauces are HORRIBLE. The haddock batter is different. It's sweet & doesn't stick to the fish. (see photos) It's just falling apart all over the place b4 we could even attempt to eat them. Both our Sammy's a complete sweet mess, and not in a good way. The fries are some kind of GIANT hand cut fries that are undercooked. The bun, is a cheap bun like from walmart. No side of cole slaw nothing. I'm also not sure why your Haddock sandwiches and fries are $25 bucks each, double the price as "Gaby's" in Clearwater, Florida. I have posted many photos of their Haddock Sandwich's also, and not only are theirs half the price at $12.99, theirs are twice as big served on a cornmeal crusted bun WITH cole slaw. Math doesn't add up. Your haddock is overpriced and/or you cannot do simple math. OuiOui. Now that you have wrecked the food we will be eating The Haddock sammy's at Gaby's in Clearwater, Florida from now on. I have now taken you off all my Favorite restaurants lists & added "Dan's" to the "Worst food of our lives lists." Congratulations on your gentrification of what used to be one of our favorite seafood restaurants. You wrecked it, the food sucks. But, great paint job, it looks so cute. Will never return.
