Got carry-out, my standard test meal for Chinese places. The crab rangoons were okay, still fairly crisp when I got home. The sauce was only so-so but I had some better on-hand. The Hot-n-Sour soup was anything but; I don't think I've ever had flavorless Hot-n-Sour soup before...or maybe it was Tofu flavored...or toe foo. In any case, it went in the garbage disposal after two bites. And the General Tso's chicken was...appalling. I didn't think you could even make chicken be that chewy. The broccoli was uncooked. Love the little hole in the wall locations and some dive bars have been some of the best. This is along those lines. The sushi was phenomenal and I rarely say that. My wife & I have only been to Ozu852 twice over the past 3 years. That being said, service is excellent. The menu has a nice mix of Japanese & Chinese dishes. Green tea is EXCELLENT, not the weak watery garbage you find at some places. A bit "pricier" than Taco Bell, with the total bill for 2 people (with tip) being ~$47, but the food quality, menu choices, and EXCELLENT service made it worthwhile. We WILL be back. read more

I normally don't do reviews, I just read others.... but I couldn't pass this one up. I travel for work all across the country and I usually try to find sushi wherever I go. I have to say this restaurant is top 3 best sushi I have had on my travels. I was a little thrown off by the exterior but decided to go in after reading all of the reviews. When I entered, there was no customers, just the owners and their kids. They were kind and greeted me with smiles. The restaurant is pretty small but was empty when I got there around 5:30. But the time I left at 6:30 it was a bit more packed I ordered edamame for an appetizer - for $4.95, it was a huge portion! Not over salted which is important to me so overall I was happy with it. I then ordered an Eric roll and the Red Phoenix roll. The Red Phoenix roll came first and it was amazing! The mango salsa was just enough to add a little sweetness but not over power the sushi (I actually don't even like mango but it was a delicious combo). The roll itself was very light and delicious and all of the flavors complimented each other. I also loved the texture of the tempura shrimp - it added a whole other component. Next, I received the Eric roll (mostly raw). This roll is UNIQUE - I can honestly say I have never tasted anything like it and I'm not even sure I can explain it. It does have a little kick to it but not too spicy (I hate anything spicy and I liked it). Once again I was very impressed. You can tell that the chef knows what he is doing and is very creative because these aren't all your normal rolls. I finished both rolls and ordered another Red Phoenix roll to go so I could eat it later at the hotel. If you are visiting the area and want sushi, I suggest going here. I was going to drive a little further to a different sushi restaurant because it seemed nicer on the outside and bigger but after digging through reviews I decided to go here and am so glad I did. Excellent. Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside there is excellent sushi. Prices are good and there are a lot of choices. I'm sometimes wary of restaurants with a huge menu. They try to do everything and most of the time they lack focus. Seems Ozu852 can have a huge menu and still do everything right. The special rolls are the reason to go. All have been great so far. Sashimi is excellent too. Having samples literally all the special rolls and many other dishes as well, I have to update my rating to 5 stars. Do not let the location fool you. This is a great little gem of a Japanese restaurant. I tried a spider roll for an appetizer and was very happy with my decision. In fact, I'd go back for this alone. My main course was their Udon noodles with beef and these were also very good. Everyone in our party was happy with their food and the service was excellent as well. As usual I didn't read the menu and asked the server to bring whatever separated the restaurant from competitors. I was not disappointed here. My palette was treated to a myriad of flavors I have not experienced in quite awhile. This unassuming restaurant in a strip mall has wowed me tonight and I'm quite the food snob. Wish I could transplant this restaurant to my home town out of state, but it would be a big loss for the locals here. Here's what I was served: - Kumamoto Oyster with ponzu, lemon juice, and mango salsa - Grenade with spicy tuna wonton dumplings served with guacamole and mango sauce - Baby Yellow Tail (sashimi style) served with cumin and truffle soy - Salmon Spoon (sashimi style) with avocado and topped with ikura and black caviar. Served with miso and citrus wasabi yuzu - Blue Crab Fahita with red onion and cream cheese in a fajita wrap. Topped with balsamic spicy mayo - Seared Beef Tataki with mushroom and served with balsamic ginger sauce - Soft Shell Crab served with egg white sweet chili sauce I can't wait to return to try another half dozen items. Absolutely wonderful food and service! They go above and beyond for their customers. We had company staying at our house and didn't realize how late it had gotten. We called Ozu 10 min before closing and asked if we could order and pick up. They took our order and kept the doors open past closing until we arrived. Disclaimer: I am, by default, a sushi purist--meaning sushi and sashimi only, so I cannot speak to their rolls. That being said, I was not impressed by their cuts of fish, nor the quality. A few of the pieces even had bits of skin on still. I couldn't even finish my meal. Alan and his wife Ann are two of the most genuine and caring owners I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. They come from New York City where Alan trained to be a sushi chef and it certainly shows in his beautiful creations that taste as good as they look. They are beyond welcoming into their cozy restaurant and will guide you on your culinary adventure! They have never steered me wrong and have yet to have anything "bad" at their restaurant and highly doubt I ever will. You can see and feel their passion in everything they do, they make you feel right at home. I have eaten there four, yes four, times in the last 2 weeks because I can't get enough! The prices are that reasonable to boot! Every time I think the last trip can't be topped because it was THAT good but none the less they manage to knock my socks off! The freshness of ingredients and quality of fish they use in unreal. You'd think you're along the shore somewhere in Japan eating fish caught that day! And no, I'm not exaggerating. From your basic rolls to their always changing specials you will NOT be disappointed. Their menu is extensive and anyone from the pickiest eater to the most adventurous will find something they like. I am honestly shocked at the quality of food being served at this restaurant, I had little to no hope of finding any good Japanese food in Ohio but my Grandfather introduced me to this little Gem and it is now 1 of 2 Japanese restaurants I will eat at in a 20 mile radius... its better than a number of Japanese restaurants in California and thats really saying something when comparing a midwestern state to a costal one. This restaurant in Englewood is a hidden gem. Located in a small plaza, it's very unassuming in appearance, but the food is of a much higher caliber than you'd expect. I've been coming here since the new owners took over the spot close to two years ago. The menu has been changed, upgraded if you will. Chef Alan Li and his wife worked in NYC for a long time, so both his sushi and Asian food is top notch. The service is always courteous and prompt. The food is fantastic. I love everything there. I'm usually on the road for work, so I'll generally dine in for their sushi, and take home something hot from the kitchen. The Yaki Udon stir fried noodles with seafood is possibly my favorite asian comfort food, The Blue Crab tortilla is unlike anything that you've had before, and their specialty rolls are the things that dreams are made of. I visited this joint last night. Overall it was pretty good and I would recommend it. There are a couple of things I did not like which is why they only got three stars from me. The place is not much to look at, it is located in a strip mall and is very outdated. However, I have had some of the best food in little holes in the wall and this place is certainly that kind of place. I ordered a variety of things and for the most part was happy with the food and its quality. I ordered a la carte sashimi, miso soup, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. One thing I did not like about this place, is they did not set the table for service. I should have been given my eating utensils but only got a fork wrapped in a napkin. If you want to present yourself as a quality place, then show it by giving the things you need. I had to request a pair of chopsticks, I had to ask for the dipping bowl for my sashimi. If you serve the food, then bring the things that are customary for the dish. This is a lack of quality the staff needs to be trained on. Also, the tap water tastes like bleach. They are not rinsing the serving items well enough and have soap residue on them, thus giving you the bleach taste. It's the little things that make you fail. The first thing to arrive was a salad which I did not order. I assume it was because I ordered the tempura dinner. Okay, but the salad was not made properly. The lettuce was in too large of chunks and the salad should have been colder. The ginger dressing was okay but it slightly lacked something. Also, traditionally the salad would have been in a smaller portion then what was served to me. Most people like getting more food than they expect, but in this instant, we are looking for the quality and a smaller portion is appropriate. The tempura showed up next and I must say it was spot on. They made it to perfection. It had plenty of crispness and the portion size was perfect as well. The fish eye sauce served with it was also very good. I very much recommend this dish and the price of 13 bucks is well worth it. Next came my sashimi. It was great to be able to get some Toro. It's been a long time since I had some. The chef decided to cut the meat weird and had a extra slice on the meat. I did not care for this and I think he was going for some kind of style, but it is a failure. I expect the cut of meat to be single sliced and served in a traditional Japanese style. He did not do this and it detracted from the fish. The eel was great and nice size. Octopus was also perfect expect that the chef again trying to make it look pretty, decided to put lemon slices between each piece of meat. This is bad, as it changes the taste of the fish. I really wish they would not use the citrus in this way. They do not have Tamago (egg). REALLY?!? Come on chef you can do better. They do not have many traditional rolls either like Futomaki. Again, really? This restaurant is not bad but it is not great either. The prices are pretty descent, so if you need a good sushi fix, then this place will do you justice. If they would work a little bit harder, they could easily achieve being a quality establishment and would be well known for their sushi. read more

Wow what a find in Englewood! Went here to try the sushi. I got the Maki combo. The sushi was fresh, but didn't have a lot of flavor so I recommend getting the spicy tuna or speciality rolls. The other person with me got the Moo Go Gai Pan- excellent flavor! The salad was fresh and definitely get an egg roll. I recommend checking it out if you are in town. Don't let the unassuming exterior put you off of this small local restaurant with very good, fresh Chinese and Japanese food, including sushi! We are so glad to finally have found fresh, good Asian food north of town...ok, northwest. To be honest, I would have never given this place a chance based upon the exterior, but an Asian friend said this is the only place she goes for good Asian food north of town, so we went and boy is it good! One of the best things about the food is it didn't give me the typical post-Chinese food headache. They use slices of tender chicken meat, not the gristly scrap pieces that you get in lesser quality restaurants (I call those pieces "beak surround" and they gross us out). No beak-surround here, just nice slices of breast meat. We've only gotten Chinese food there, but the sushi looks popular, and they have several options that aren't raw for people (like me) who are averse to eating uncooked seafood. Best lo mein I've had anywhere, and same for the wonton soup, which I usually don't even like. If you order hot tea they bring nice sized hand-thrown clay cups for it, and it's actual green tea rather than Lipton! Pretty decent menu with lots of Chinese, Hibachi and Sushi options.
