PW Stephens did an excellent job of removing walls from my house that had been contaminated with asbestos. I was under intense time pressure and they were extremely timely in both coming out to assess and then sending a team to do the work. They were clean and honest, communicated well. We had a massive water leak in an upstairs bathroom. The walls in the bathroom and the utility room and bedroom below were wet. The insurance company arranged for PW Stephens to remove the wet sheet. They tested for mold and asbestos and found the latter. Vinicio Romero and Jose Pineda removed the sheet rock and insulation over 5 days. They sealed off the area and dried it with dehumidifiers. for several days. The sheet rock was removed and they cleaned the wood studs of the wall. Samples were negative for mold but positive for asbestos. A state inspector tested the rooms after cleaning and said the asbestos had been cleared. The workmen were very professional and hard working. We were fortunate to have such good men work on our home. read more

I don't usually post reviews, but my experience with an estimator at P.W. Stephens was the worst customer service that I've ever experienced. The estimator, Daniel Rubal, gave me a verbal estimate over the phone for asbestos abatement on our heating ducts. He said he would call the following Monday morning to set up a date on Tuesday to review the job site at our house. When Monday arrived and I didn't hear from him, I contacted him by text. He responded and set up a time to meet on Tuesday. Then he called on Tuesday morning and canceled the appointment due to an emergency job elsewhere. He said he would call me next Monday morning to reschedule. When I didn't hear back from him on Monday, I sent a text reminding him to contact me. He wrote, "Hi, I will update you shortly." Another week of silence went by and I wrote to him again the following Monday. He said, "Gm, I will call you after my meeting today." Well, needless to say he didn't call. Out of sheer frustration, I called the office the next day to let them know that I've been trying to set up an appointment with Daniel for almost three weeks since we first discussed the job. The office coordinator put him on the line. Daniel was apologetic and said he would make our job a priority and set up a date to meet on Friday. But after dealing with what I felt was a total runaround and a waste of valuable time, I decided to cancel the appointment and go with a different estimator. There was no way that I was going to work with someone like that for obvious reasons. read more

My home flooded December 31st and I've had to deal with a ton of contractors since then. I wish I used P.W. Stephens from the beginning. Other flood abatement and remediation companies took advantage of me or just didn't really know what they were doing, but PW Stephens was knowledgeable and honest. Totally unprofessional company. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone ever. P.W. showed up in at my residence in Dublin July 3, 2020 to remove ventilation ducts which had asbestos tape and fittings. As they were setting up an employee informed me when they finished the asbestos containing ducts world be left at my place for three days until someone could pick it up. I called the P.W. office and stated that was not an option. Nicky informed she was trying to get someone to pick it up. The contract stated they would take care of any permits I then asked if they had gotten permits. The employee started making phone calls. I stepped outside for a moment, when I returned they were removing their gear ready to leave. I again called the office and spoke to Nicky. She informed me the employees didn't want to do job because I was interfering. She informed me Joe Garcia would call to explain further. Never heard another word from the company. If you ask this company a question or expect them to do the job correctly is considered inferring. That says a lot about how they do business. read more

Don't trust your health and safety with this unprofessional company. I hired and paid them to remove asbestos from my HVAC ducts in June 2021. Now I'm getting some insulation work done and the insulation contractors tell me all the asbestos on the ducts the attic had never been removed! I finally dragged them back in to finish the job while they are kicking and screaming that this is not their responsibility. The contract clearly says it's part of the scope of work. I dragged them back in to finish the job per the contract but out of spite they left the ducts dismantled so the HVAC system can't be used anymore. Glad I had the contract to make sure they finish the job they are paid for. But a complete hassle dealing with an incompetent and unprofessional company. read more

Do not use this company!! You may think your insurance is covering their expenses, they will make you sign a 20 page contract that makes you the homeowner responsible for paying their services delivered (which costs many thousands of dollars) and then put a LIEN on your property if they don't receive payment from insurance or any contractor they are subcontracting under. I thought my insurance was covering their services for water damage reconstruction from 2023 rains and now I have a LIEN on my house. Don't sign anything and don't use them... you will be sorry. Extremely positive experience!!! Zach was amazing. Communication was great. He stayed right on schedule with my asbestos, wall, and floor removal. My damage happened in late January when everyone was flooding. Zach made me feel like I was his number one priority the whole way through the removal process. The office staff was helpful and polite. Definitely 5 stars or more... and Defintely recommend and will use again. My house was built before 1970 and had some water damage. Another resoration company wouldn't do restoration work till asbestos was tested and air test passed. Art came to my house for giving an estimate. I stated the urgency to him. Art scheduled the sample, lab testing, sampling the air followed by another lab testing as soon as soon as they could be scheduled. Every personnel of P.W. Stephens were very professional and friendly. For what I have seen so far there are no molds and a big part of the credit for not having molds goes to Art, and PW Stephens Environmentl, Inc. of Hayward, CA as they scheduled and worked on samples and tests soonest possible. read more

Very unprofessional! Stay away from it! I had an appointment scheduled between 11:30am and 12pm. I cancelled my meetings at the office and when I get home, 11:18am, there was their VP business card on my door because their came earlier than agreed. I called their office and got, quote "Oh, I am so sorry! He is available on Monday 10:30am" like nothing had happening. I tried to call the number on the business card a few times, but no answer. Shameful! They did not honor the appointment maybe because they think that their time is more important than their customer's time. I just hope these type of amateur business gets kicked out of the market by real professional companies. I read some other reviews and I am glad that they will not be my service provider. read more

I would give this company zero stars if I could. Save your time, save your money, save your frustration, and do NOT use their services, or allow your rental company to use their services. They have lied to us repeatedly about their ability to finish the job (mold removal in two rooms, not a large amount) in a timely manner. First, they said they would show up on Monday at 10 am to begin work, and would be done by Tuesday. No-show on Monday, due to an 'emergency'. I would have more sympathy for their 'emergency' if they had followed it up with prompt service, but after scheduling to return on Tuesday between 1 and 2 pm, Tuesday 2:30 pm rolls around and they are still not here. We have to call THEM only to be told that they are not going to make it that day, and agree to come on Thursday to work all day and finish the job same day. Keep in mind, throughout this whole experience, we have had to get a hotel room and board our two pets since we are not allowed in the house, so we are staying out of the house for literally no reason for the first two days. Once the plan was established as all-day Thursday, we are notified on Tuesday night that they will actually be there at 8:30 am on Wednesday (less than 12 hours notice), with the promise that we would be able to return that night. So on Wednesday morning, they show up an hour late, and get to work. It is only a couple of hours before they are calling again with more 'problems', claiming we did not move enough items from the rooms in question, even though we followed their exact instructions. Due to this, and the manager's *SUDDEN REALIZATION* that they need to not only do an overnight treatment on the rooms, but a 3-hour long test to show mold removal, we are not allowed back in our home until FRIDAY NIGHT, at the earliest. This company clearly has no concept of customer service, timely responses, or any sense of responsibility for the customer's inconvenience. They need to significantly change the way this company operates, as it is clear there is no communication between the workers and upper management, and that they do not care about their customers at all. EDIT: Following the events of the original post, it has now taken them another full week to complete treatment for ONE room in the house. Terrible time management and communication. read more

Ralph came out to give us a quote on removing duct work under our house with asbestos. I had already been given an extremely high quote from another company. Ralph was honest and very professional. He told me we didn't need to remove the ductwork, it wasn't causing any issues and there was no harm from it as it was intact. He fully explained what to watch out for in the future but as of now it was unnecessary. So glad I called them, he saved me thousands. read more

When you have a water loss and need mitigation, the things you should look for are timely response, professionalism, and, obviously, a trustworthy crew who knows what they are doing. I met Art who is the PW Stephens Hayward branch manager, and he came to assess my damages and write up a thorough scope. Next, his crew came out (Mauricio). They removed the wet drywall, insulation, baseboard, etc. They were very careful to prep all things such as flooring and set up containment tents, which is so crucial when you have young children like I do. I really appreciated that Cynthia from the office always gave me a heads up on what time they were coming, what to expect, etc. My experience with this company, and particular Art's branch was great. Give them a call if you have any water, mold, etc damages that need remediation. I highly recommend and give them 10 stars! read more

Our tenants were displaced for over a week living outside their home to a hotel. We needed clear details from the people working such as timelines, or details of their scope of work. This company delegates some of that work to another company, which adds to the confusion. Today, I called Steve to confirm that they were supposed to finish tomorrow. Do the people in this company don't even communicate with one another within their own company? Steve didn't tell me he transferred this assignment to another person in the company and said I had to reschedule for plastic removal and that they had no access to my home or my tenants' contact. This guy has a horrible attitude and hung up on me before I had my say. Contact information was something I had already provided multiple times. To add to the problem, the new person who is responsible is hard to contact and couldn't be reached all day. As a landlord, I have to consider multiple issues and being properly notified regarding scope and timeline of work is critical to my job. - The cost of the delays means more money out of my pocket. - The displacement of my tenants, of which the cost is immeasurable. This guy doesn't care about his clients' perspective. Instead of taking responsibility, he would rather I take it out on another guy. This is bad attitude combined with a lack of understanding. The end result was that all of our kitchen cabinets were removed. It was excessive, unnecessary, and expensive. Insurance did not cover their carelessness. I had to install completely new cabinets. Beware when dealing with them. They won't tell you what they intend to do. They did not work with me when I filed a BBB complaint. I am writing this new review because I need to tell you the story and allow you decide. PW Stephens came to me as a reference from another company named First Restoration. (Which was hired and Recommended from my insurance) PWS came to test for asbestos on our downstairs floor and found asbestos. After a couple of weeks of waiting from my insurance, I scheduled an appointment to remove the asbestos. I spoke to Andy and was told I needed to be out of the home for 3 days. All furniture and pictures were removed from the downstairs. On May 28, 2019 PWS came to demolish the downstairs floor and abate the asbestos. That morning I spoke to one of the workers to ask if they needed to go upstairs, and he said no. (The reason why I asked was because they were going to remove everything including the downstairs toilet) we asked him how long was going to take him and he said all day and part of the following day. We already had loaded our stuff in the truck to leave and we wanted to know who was going to lock up the house when they leave. He said you can leave us the key and we will secure it in a lockbox, and will give you the combination when you come back. He said we do it all the time. We trusted them and gave them the key to the patio door. That same day I received a call from a guy name Bill saying that PWS was a good company and not to worry. The following day I got a call from someone else saying that the work was done. He said that they had given the combination to Andy. We had made reservations for three days when we came back we got the combination from another person name Mike. (He called me) When we came in the house, the floor was sticky and we couldn't stay there so we left back to the hotel. A few days later we came to pick up some more clothes and at that point I checked the safe box and noticed that $2,700 dollars were missing. I called the police and reported the incident. They took fingerprints. At this point we're still staying at the hotel. I reported the incident to the insurance because they had recommended this company. They said they only cover 700 and my deductible was more than the amount they covered so I couldn't file a claim. I am still in contact with the police investigator but the officer does not give me much information about the investigation. This is only statement of facts that happened to me. read more

They are complete idiots. They destroyed all my appliances. I am taking them to court.

Last May, my home burnt up P.W. Stephen's did the abatement just fine. However the money is in probate so I have been making $500 dollar monthly payments since January, and they know this they also know that as soon as an executor is established, they will get paid fully. However, instead of waiting, they refuse to release the mechanics lien they placed on my families home. They are willing to make an already displaced family of six (one of the family members is autistic and has never lived anywhere else that he can really remember until now) homeless. They are horrible. I will never recommend them to others who are going through a hard time or are facing obstacles that are not in their control. Again, the company knows the money will be available as soon as an executor is established through probate court, and the estate account is made. They even have the probate court date information to attend, but instead of releasing the mechanics lien until June which they will be paid in full by then and have monthly payments of $500 until they are fully paid. Instead, they want to make a family of six with pets homeless. Unless you have thousands of dollars on hand or able to get a loan because you don't have student loans and bad credit, don't use these heartless people. They know the money will be available after April, but they would rather make a family homeless. They are heartless. read more

I had received a referral to PW Stephens and one other asbestos abatement company from my realtor. I called PW's main number and the receptionist gave me the cell phone number of the person responsible for Northern California, "Jeffrey" and told me to call him. I phoned Jeffrey on Thursday and requested an appointment for an estimate. On Tuesday, he had still not returned the call, so I called the office again and asked if I could speak with another estimator. The owner spoke with me and told me he would have Jeffrey call me. Jeffrey called and made an appointment. On the day and before the time of the appointment, I received a call that he was going to be late. I called him back and told him that I could make the new appointment time, but to let me know if there were further delays. He texted me twice to let me know he was late and delayed two more times. The job consists of two projects: removing popcorn ceilings and removing ducts from the furnace. Jeffrey did not measure the rooms with the popcorn ceilings or check that all the ducts required removal (I later learned from another licensed contractor that some do not contain asbestos and do not require removal). He then told me that a) the ceilings will be gouged and damaged by the workers; b) anything left behind will be damaged because they use water; c) we would need to have an electrician remove all light fixtures; and d) we would need to be out of our place for 5 days. Prior to calling PW Stephens, we had done a lot of research about the abatement process. We knew that water is used, but no one removed light fixtures and some companies permit you to leave one or two large items in the room and they will wrap them with plastic so they are protected. So long as the very large item(s) are moved to the center of the room so that workers can access the ceiling, it is acceptable. I told Jeffrey that he wasn't giving me a lot of confidence about their ability to do a good job and that they wouldn't destroy our home. I asked him who the workers were, who would be in our home, and he said he didn't know. This concerned me because he is supposed to be the project manager for the area (and he doesn't know who will be doing the work???) After reading other reviews here, I see that it appears that the subcontract the work (with what appears to be disastrous results in at least 2 reviews) and that may be why he had no idea who would be doing the work. I thanked him for stopping by and he promised to send a quote by Friday (which was two days later), if I sent an email to him so he had my email address. He never sent the quote for the job. After this experience, I did research on Yelp and contacted two other contractors for the job: an asbestos abatement company that had an overwhelming number of great reviews and my realtor's other referral. Both contractors estimators were on time, pleasant, and professional. Both contractors measured the rooms with the popcorn ceilings (this work is usually done by the square foot) and the ducts. Both contractors assured me that we would only be out of our home a day and a half. Both contractors explained the abatement, permitting, inspection, and disposal process to me. Both contractors said that the two large items we would have trouble moving out for the work could be left and wrapped, protected in plastic. Both contractors said that we would not need to remove (have an electrician remove) the lighting fixtures for them to do the abatement work. Bottom line: Dealing with this company was a complete waste of time. I would avoid PW Stephens Environmental like the plague. It appears that they simply don't care about the quality of service or the job. The estimator was incredibly rude and condescending. Thankfully, this experience occurred before we even hired them so that we didn't have a larger problem and bigger regrets. read more

I contacted P.W. Stephens to come and give me a estimate to remove the asbestos from my duct work. To expedite the scope of work, they contacted Bayhill Heat & Air, which didn't have the time to answer there questions, seeing that they had installed the furnace in my home. So I answered to the best of my knowledge on where the asbestos was located, and with Bill I. expertise, the job was scheduled and completed in a 2 wk. turnaround. I was very happy with the work that was done, I felt very comfortable with the workers that came to my home. Thank you all very much for all the professional, hard work. read more

This company is worse of the worse. Do not do business with them. I had water damage in my house and they came out to remove some asbestos from the residence. While removing the asbestos they damaged some of my property and refused to fix it. Terrible customer service. To this date I have not received reimbursement from them. Bad business all together. Called to schedule an appointment 3 weeks ago and they kept having to reschedule my appointments for no valid reason. When scheduled, they couldn't give me a specific time. I asked them to call me confirm the day before the appointment for a time. They never did. The evening of the prior appointment day came around, so I called them instead. With no valid excuse of them not calling, we scheduled for 2:00pm and showed up at my home at 9:00am never bother to letting me know. I had to frequently tell them that if they are coming early they need to let me know. They also took the wallpaper down in my bathroom when they were clearly told NOT TOO! Last week they came on the weekend to pull the plastic off. However today, they showed up at the house randomly freaking my brother out because they banged on the door and rang the doorbell 4 times. I called them to ask what this was about and they told me they were by to rip the plastic off.... which they already did!!... no warning about their arrival.. not even a sorry.. I AM NOT PLEASED! Very poor procedure usage. Removed asbestos without zipping and sealing the plastic tarps, didn't use negative pressure pump or even connect it, workers left tracks of my popcorn asbestos ceiling on their way out the door, workers didn't even wear shirts and left the restricted area covered in the dust. This was plain dangerous. When I complained to management, the work was magicly completed and packed up before the supervisor could show up. In turn they said everything they could to pacify me. Cowboy work and risks taken in my home with my 4 month old son. PW S. needs to train their workers to do safe and effective work. They need to fire the incompetent, unsafe cowboys who don't speak a lick of English. I tried telling the workers to correct themselves but they obviously didn't comprehend my concerns.
