Very great service. My family always brings our cars here for oil changes but we do bring our own oil that we buy from Costco. Recently got my brake and brake pads changed and everything. My dad thought they did a good job and they showed him the new brake pads before installing and showed him the old ones that they took out. They do not get OEM products so the braking will not feel exactly the same and I think it make more noise during a harder brake and I feel the difference too. For me, as long as it works, I'm ok. Price-wise is fine since they don't get OEM material. Of note though, my family does speak Chinese so there is no language barrier with us. read more

Terrible, rude, and overpriced mechanic. I got my car broken into and the car started jumping and not accelerating. I brought it here and even though I've done business with them before and gotten my brakes replaced here, they refused to give me service. Started yelling at me to leave and turned on their compressor while I was on the phone trying to arrange a tow truck to be brought to another mechanic. DO NOT GO HERE. If I could give 0 stars I would. Also when I got my brakes fixed they were extremely overpriced. Save money and your patience by going elsewhere. read more

I brought my 2011 Honda Fit checking on Blinking yellow light. Never had its transmission fluid changed at 112,000 miles due to ignorance, not purposely. Mechanic surprised the car still run. Without hesitation, oil was changed with no guarantee result would end normal driving. Parts and labor were very reasonable. The car runs as new without any issues ever since the visit. Dishonest people. Dishonest/Horrible customer service. Rude mechanic. Very unhelpful and overcharges! Our family car was at this shop for a regular maintenance. I had a check engine light on. I've been coming to this shop for months. This mechanic Zhenhong and the receptionist Fiona were unhelpful and basically lied to my face. They told me to do unnecessary work on my car and overcharged me more than the dealership! I went to my local Toyota and they told me the work that Grant Avenue Garage told me to do is too early, unnecessary and overcharged for it! It was a simple fix on my battery terminal wiring. After the dealership fixed it for me, my check engine light turned off itself immediately! But they insisted I need a new battery and a tune up while I was there. Tune up at 42,000 miles? You're crazy! Don't you ever lie to my face and then pretend it was nothing! These people will lie to your face thinking you don't know anything. If you still decide to patronage this garage, you should really get a second opinion and make sure to get everything in writing! Or else they will pretend nothing happened and screw with you! The way they do business is completely unacceptable. I brought in my car for an oil change and the worker told me that the oil change will cost $50.00 and in my mind, I was really excited because for that price that is pretty good. I asked the worker if the oil is Full Synthetic and not Synthetic oil. The worker said yes it is full synthetic. I repeatedly asked them FULL Synthetic and not regular synthetic and they said yes. Ok, that is a good deal. Left my car there and told them to call me when it was finished. I went around the neighboorhood and grabbed a sandwich to eat. Coming back to pick up my car, on the receipt it said "Synthetic Oil". I was angry and questioned them how come they used synthetic oil and not Fully Synthetic oil on my car. Synthetic oil will ruin my engine because it is a Mercedes. The worker said that I asked for synthetic oil and that I was lying to them trying to cheat them! This place is awful and almost ruined my vehicle! I'm going to another oil change shop to redo the oil change! What a waste of my time and money! Stay away from Grant Ave Garage. Obviously they have no clue on what oil your car needs and will damage your engine with the regular synthetic oil! Glad I checked the receipt before I left. read more

Just moved into the neighborhood and my check engine came on. This was the nearest place, and I took a gamble, even with the mediocre reviews. Communication was somewhat of a challenge, so I was nervous not knowing if this would cost of $100 or $1,000... but they correctly informed me I just needed a new gas cap, were able to order it that day and I had my car back (sans check engine light and still going strong) that afternoon. If they had someone to help assist with customer service this place would do great! Happy they are around. read more

Grant Avenue Garage was super convenient. All I needed was an oil change so I just dropped off my car in the morning before work and the garage attendant dropped it off at my apartment parking spot for me. Oil was changed, fluids filled, and tires filled, they also replaced some headlights for me. The only reason I'm giving them three stars is that it was a little pricey. $44.00 for oil change, etc. Would go back for the convince though. read more

Very friendly. Called in to ask if they patched run flats cause I had a nail in my tire, they said yes. Went to the shop and they told me I didn't need a patch and that my tire was fine. YAY! Dropped my car off to them on Saturday morning 11am for front and rear break job. Got it back by 3pm. Did a good job and told me the price up front how much would it be. Replaced a bad rear left side break light for me for free and removed parts of a plastic garbage bag that was stuck around the muffler. No charge for that either. Its great that there open on Saturday. Best to drop your car early to them on Saturday because they can get really busy on Saturday. read more

These folks are great! Great service, great price. Definitely take your car here. I have a Saturn, and since all the Saturn dealers have closed, I really needed to find a new garage. Some of my friends recommended Grant Avenue Garage, so when my service engine light came on, I took it in. They used the right gadgets to read the codes in the computer in my car, figured out the problem was caused by a sensor in the emission control system, fixed the problem, and had the car back to me super fast. And they charged me way less than a Saturn dealership would have in the old days! I'm stingy with my 5-star ratings, but these folks certainly earned it. read more

Super convenient if you live in North Beach. It was kind of... new, having an employee translate what their mechanic was telling me. I just nodded my head and smiled, thinking, "Oh my god, here goes all money." But they didn't take all my money, as all I had done was a tune-up for my cross-country road trip. A $500 dollar tune-up, but hell, I couldn't do it myself. Here is where the 1 star comes into play... 10 hours after I get my car, and while IN THE FUCKING MIDDLE OF THE DESERT, my 3 yr. old car throws a rod, destroying the usefulness of the engine and leaving me stranded in BFE. I'm not saying it is THEIR fault, but it was 3 yrs old w/ 100,000 miles. No problems before that and, it was in great shape. I had to leave my car in the desert. I just gave it away. I couldn't afford the fix it, AND I couldn't afford to hang out in Arizona while Bobby Earl poked around under the hood. I have no car and I sorta blame these people. read more

I'm not a big review writer, but exceptional service deserves a few minutes of my time: I had a flat tire the other day and I live a few blocks away from Grant Avenue Garage, so I decided to call them to have it checked out. The guy on the phone was a bit difficult to understand (not a native english speaker), but I was welcome to drop by immediately. They checked my wheel and tire, and discovered I had a slow leak due to some paint flaking off the inside of the wheel. They sanded the spot and put the tire back on and voila, leak was fixed. I also asked if he could fill all of my 4 tires to the proper pressure, which was done promptly. When I asked how much the damage was, I thought he said 30 bucks (again, his english wasn't great) so I give him two $20 bills... he smiles and gives one of them back to me. Everything done in less than 30 minutes. Long story short: Fast, cheap and no bullshit - perfect! read more
