But now we have a fancy new Audi, whose brakes I hammered on, ignoring all the cockpit warning messages, until the car threatened to not stop at all anymore. Out of habit, I was planning to bring it to the dealership, because it's a fancy new car and the dealer's propaganda about how untrustworthy independent mechanics are worked on me. But then I figured, what the heck... Dan [I'm assuming that's who I've always worked with. We were never formally introduced.] has never let me down before... So I brought the car in and Dan informed me that, indeed, I had basically destroyed the brakes. He gave me some options for keeping the cost down but there wasn't much to be done at this point except replace everything. Rotors, pads, sensors... like I said, I did some great work here. He does the work that day, at probably half the price the dealer would have charged, and now the car stops again! Fantastic. Except a few days later, I noticed a squeaking noise. And over the next few weeks, it got gradually louder and louder, until it sounded like I was driving a dump truck. Uh oh. I call Dan. He is very concerned. He asks me to bring the car in immediately. It turns out one of the new brake pads appears to be defective. And with no hesitation, no hedging, no negotiation, he just replaces it. A few hours later, I have the car back, and now it doesn't squeak anymore. Super, super happy. He definitely stands by his work and will do what it takes to make the customer happy. Plus his prices are reasonable. I don't know why anyone would go anywhere else.

I've been taking my 2016 Subaru Impreza there for a variety of repairs over the years, and won't go anywhere else. Why am I so positive about these people? Let me give you one story as an example. A little while ago, nearly every warning light lit up on my dashboard (see photo). I took the car in and they diagnosed the issue: transmission valve body failure. They quoted me (a very fair) repair price. But before they ordered parts and scheduled the repair, they told me to call Subaru. Apparently this is a common problem on my car, and even though my car had 106k miles on it, I might qualify for an extended warranty program. Turns out, I did qualify for the warranty and Subaru did the repair for free. SF Auto Works helped me find a free repair; what an honest shop! I'll keep taking my car here. These folks are incredible, and I feel really lucky to know that they are around. P.S. my dad was a professional mechanic and I grew up working on cars. This is a no-BS shop. Just good people doing great work.
