Had our AC unit stop working, needed a repair. We have low voltage issues in the summer and typically by the end of the summer the capacitor in the AC unit is finished. We did get same day service through Pacific Coast Heating, however their pricing is particularly predatory. For one they have $99 fee to show which is common for most HVAC companies, this fee was not applied to total cost of repairs unfortunately. So to clean the unit and make repairs (replace the capacitor) which took a total of about 30 minutes of labor and a $25 part cost about $405 + $99 which brought the total for a capacitor replacement to $504. When I commented on the price the technician was able to contact his supervisor and get it reduced to $450. So basically their pricing cost about $650/hr for labor. In comparison I've had this same repair done by another company in 2022 for $195 which I thought was an expensive price at the time. Pacific Coast heating was able to successfully complete the job which is important but their pricing is not competitive. If you have concerns about costs of repair I recommend you find a different HVAC company. If you need short notice repair and pricing isn't a deal breaker for you and nobody else is available they are a great last resort option. read more

Replaced a part in the AC without talking to me first to let me know cost etc. Then after he replaced the part then told me I owed $500. Typically, when I have work done at my house they tell me what needs to be done and the cost prior to starting the project. I guess the expectation is I ask prior to the work being done, but not what I have experienced with other companie. read more

Totally ripped off! Requested a A/C tuneup and they recommended a replacement of Dual Run Capacitor ($300) in May 2023. In June 2024 the AC stopped working, when another company came they found the new Dual Run Capacitor sitting on the roof near the old one UNINSTALLED. They said they cleaned the condenser, they did not. BEWARE! $439 for nothing. read more

They overcharge! I called Pacific Coast because my regular AC guy was out of town and my AC stopped working in a heatwave. Mistake #1. I told the first technician what was happening with my AC and he insisted I needed new freon even though my AC was working the day before! I told him I did not think that was the problem but he kept insisting and was condescending, so I gave in and had him add freon. My system is old so the freon is expensive. It was almost $1000! Mistake #2. As I suspected, the freon was not the issue. The second technician actually listened to what I was saying and replaced the capacitor. Then he said it was an additional $450 but they were taking $75 off because of the problems with the first tech. A new capacitor is a $10 part by the way. Turns out the capacitor was also not the issue, so TWICE they failed to diagnose the problem correctly. I refused to pay for anything other than the freon (which I didn't really need in the first place). I also emailed them about the problems and they vowed to "make it right" but I never heard from them again. So, I endured the heatwave for another week and waited for my regular AC guy to come back from vacation. He actually diagnosed the problem over the phone and replaced the fan motor for $230 - parts AND labor. I do not recommend Pacific Coast! They do not take the time to properly diagnose problems and they WAY OVERCAHRGE! read more

Had a call for a Williams wall furnace pilot going out. Technician Craig explained that the ducting was wrong! the valve was shot and not available anymore and gave me an est of 5K for new heater. Never really gave a diagnosis. Seemed like he tested and cleaned thermocoulple. Valve is avail. Duct work has worked for 50 yrs. Seems like just trying to sell new business. read more

I cannot recommend this HVAC company highly enough. I have recently become embroiled in major dispute with a large and dishonest competitor of this company. Hayley and Craig have kindly helped educate me ( a senior citizen) on details involving better thermostats, therm consumption, and efficiency ratings (Seer2). The other co. Installed a substandard unit in Dec. which went obsolete in the New Year as it no longer met the Cal.'s more stringent 2023 efficiency code. I have a proposal from Pacific Coast to replace the 4 month old units installed by ******. Their proposal includes the most fuel efficient components at a cost $6000 less than the larger offending co. Don't put yourself through my upcoming litigation Hell. Was having a hard time getting a hold on any AC vendor to do a maintenance check via Yelp or emailing vendors I found on Google Maps. After two weeks, decided to just pick up the phone and got contacted a vendor called Wise Choice Heating and AC I found on Google Maps but they explained that they merged with Pacific Coast Heating and AC. They were able to send someone out the next day which was great as it was going to get hot soon. Craig came out and did a thorough check. It seems like everything was working fine but using a laser thermometer, he saw that the air wasn't as cold as it should be. He went back up and saw that the freon was low. We haven't had it checked in 8 years. After the recharge, the air coming out of our vents is icy cold and should be more efficient cooling our unit. Craig was professional and helpful with advice on things we can do to keep our AC running smoothly. We'll definitely have them come out next June! read more

Couple weeks ago our air conditioner was no longer circulating cold air. It's a less than three-year-old unit that arrived with our new house. I was afraid it was the compressor and that it would take a long time to acquire parts and repair. I phoned Pacific Coast, the rep who answered was helpful and able to schedule a same day appointment! Albert came out the same day, assessed the system, and determined that it was only the capacitor. Albert also provided me a service plan to keep the unit functioning properly throughout the years to come. The improvement is instantly noticeable. Pacific Coast has always been very professional and prompt. Craig came out again this time to refill my AC unit with refrigerant, we've had a leak somewhere ever since we purchased our townhome 6-years ago that no company has been able to find. This time I asked for Pacific Coast to come and refill the unit again...Craig came and noticed the unit was dirty after filling the unit he used his meter and after the unit continued to overheat he informed me that my unit was blown. I still paid $585 for the refrigerant but still had no airA friend called a relative of hers that works for an A/C company to come out to give a second opinion he hooked up his meter, let out some excess refrigerant and the unit has been working fine ever since. It appears that too much refrigerant was used. Craig was very nice but I believe ongoing training needs to be given to all technicians The moral of this story is always get a second opinion! read more

I invited the tech to come over to evaluate our situation. He called his office, got permission, and came over. He looked around and then proceeded to give my partner a me a ten minute lecture on the high cost of things. His office never got back with a bid for our needs as the office person said they would. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I called them to fix a broken ac and they said I just needed to replace the compressor. While they were putting in the new compressor, they said there was a leak in the coils and suggested I try a sealant to hold it over until the end of summer. I said sure, paid them $3100 total and thought I was good. The 1-star rating comes from the fact that my ac BROKE DOWN LESS THAN THREE DAYS AFTER THEY FIXED IT. They came back out to take a look, couldn't fix it, said I needed to spend ANOTHER $5000 to replace pretty much the whole ac on top of the $3100 I had already paid! (second opinion said wasn't necessary at all.) They offered a $350 credit towards the costs since I had already paid them 3,100 to fix it. I brought up the 1 year warranty for their work on their website and they said that doesn't cover it since the sealant was just a temporary fix, which wasn't communicated when I agreed to try the sealant. I asked them to give me the 350 credit as a check, they said no. I asked for a refund (because was it ever really fixed if it breaks down three days later?) THEY NEVER EVEN RESPONDED TO MY REFUND REQUEST. Second opinion checked twice, confirmed their repairs weren't necessary (THERE WAS NO LEAK) and problem was simply 2 valves that needed replacing. read more

I had an appointment window from 2PM-4PM for air conditioner service at my home. At 4:20PM, I had to call the Dispatcher to find out where the Technician was, I was told that he was at LUNCH! The Dispatcher said that he would call an get an ETA. At 4:40PM, I got a call back from the Dispatcher to say that the Technician would be another 20 minutes before arrival. Based upon the lack of courtesy regarding my time wasted waiting and the absolute lack of professionalism to keep me informed, I canceled the call all together. read more

I used this company for the first time when I needed to have a heater repair done. My AC was working but my heater was not blowing any hot air so I scheduled an appointment with a technician. They came out on time as promised and got my heater fixed. I called Pacific Coast heating and air to come out and check my air conditioner which was not working properly. My unit is 1 year old. They came out on a Thursday did an assessment and quoted $2500.00, worst case scenario. On the following Monday they came back and said it would cost $9100.00 to repair. That is almost twice what it cost to have it installed. I told them no way, so they charged $780.00 for 1 & 1/2 hrs. What a racket, and I still have a non functioning air conditioner. read more

I had these this company out to do proactive maintenance on my home like I do every year. In fact last year the repairman told me that the system was in perfect condition and only had to do was replace electrical conduit which we did. I had a perfectly working air conditioner that would cool my house to 70° with no problem. All I needed were some vents cleaned out and filters replaced. After he comes out he tells me that my air conditioner has a serious problem and I have lost over half of my refrigerant and the system is about to fail. It would cost me $500 to troubleshoot it and more to fix it and it might be better to get a new air conditioner all together because it would cost over $700 just to replace the refrigerant. . I told him I was going to get a second opinion and magically my air conditioner broke down that evening and now it doesn't cool the house at all. Explain to me how that is possible than A/C that was working great this last year falls apart in a few hours after a visit. . I am not an ignorant homeowner and know how these systems work well enough to know that if I leaked out 6 of my 10 pounds of refrigerant it would not have been able to cool at all. When I went out to look at the gauges I noticed he feared the metal grates that protect the coils and his hook was sitting there in the grates. My bet is he punctured the coil and when I asked him he said not to worry about it because the wire mesh doesn't do anything. So what was supposed to be a proactive maintenance will now probably cost me $2000 in repairs because of whatever they did. I spoke on the phone to a good local A/C shop that is coming out tomorrow but they also said that is likely what happened so we will see. read more
