Instead of just selling me the more expensive or larger option, he took the time to explain the pros and cons in detail and suggested installing a mixing valve as a better alternative for my needs. He was very clear and walked me through a few different options, which I really appreciated. On installation day, Brandon arrived right on time and worked quickly to get everything set up. There was a small hiccup because Brandon didn't have the mixing valve with him, but he was very transparent about it. He took the time to explain the pros and cons of the valve again, and I ultimately decided not to install it at that time. What really impressed me was the follow-up. Patrick called me afterward to check on the job and specifically asked about the mixing valve. He even offered to honor the original price if I decided I wanted to install it later. I spoke with three different vendors, and while their price was right in the middle, the Water Heater Doctor won my business because they were by far the most helpful and knowledgeable during the consultation. Highly recommend!

Their staff (phone staff and on-site plumbers) are professional, communicate well and get the job done. An AI voice answered the phone, asked me why I was calling, told me it was going to look up my account details, said it had a problem and that someone would contact me to follow up, and then hung up on me. A few hours later I got a text from "Cameron". I complained to "Cameron" about the experience I had from the AI phone answerer. "Cameron" apologize and told me that such an experience would frustrate him too...then "Cameron" decided to be transparent with me and tell me that he was in fact AI as well and "his" real name was "Carson". We went back and forth about 6 times to explain the problem I was having and to set up an appointment. Then "Cameron" told me that the time we worked out wasn't confirmed yet and that someone would be calling me to confirm the time. Thanks, "Cameron". This was Friday around 4:00PM. THE NEXT MORNING, a human being (I think) texted me from the same number to confirm the appointment. After I let them know how unhappy I was with the AI scheduling service, a human (I think) did call me and apologized for it. Then, on the day of the appointment, the technician arrived an hour and a half after the 12:00-16:00 window we had set up. I had to call them at 16:30 to ask if the technician was coming and they told me he would be there soon. When he did arrive, in the middle of me making dinner for my family, he told me that the faucet would need to be replaced and that it would be $750 (!!) in labor to fix it. Then I was charged $83 for his time (which I guess would be rolled into the service). So, in the end I still had a leaky faucet and I was out $83 with the option to pay $670 to replace a faucet (plus the cost of the faucet itself). For that price, I'm just going to do it myself. Then the spam texts started coming from "Cameron" asking about the estimate. I got one every day until I told it to stop texting me. This company used to be great but I'm going to be looking around the next time I need a plumber. Please ditch this stupid AI system. Please don't charge your customers if you're extremely late for your own four hour window - especially if the diagnosis takes five minutes and is "I can't fix it - replace the faucet".

When I inquired about the price, the lady on the phone informed me that the reason was that even just the "replacement part itself usually costs in the $300 - $400 range". My heater is of a major brand and later I noticed that home depot sells the brand replacement part for my heater for about $10, which make me wonder whether we were taken advantage of.

Brian responded to our call for help very quickly, came out the same day and gave us a very reasonable bid (unlike the few other companies we called which asked for large emergency fees before coming out and didn't even have time to come out immediately - 24 - 48 hours out for a main leak!). Brian found where the leak was coming from after digging for a few hours, patched the main line, and installed a new main shut off (previously a wrench was required to toggle the water to the house), all for much less than other companies quoted over the phone. The second and most recent time Brian came out was to assess and fix a downstairs can light leaking water. Brian responded quickly and came out the same day we called. He quickly found the upstairs toilet seal was no longer viable, resealed the toilet, and cleaned out the leaky can light, again for a very reasonable price. Brian is a great plumber and I highly recommend him and his team. Thanks so much, Brian!

So when we needed help again recently, it felt like reconnecting with a trusted name. And they didn't disappoint. This past weekend, my mum noticed our basement was flooding -- water was pouring from the pressure relief valve on our hot water tank. After doing some research, we managed to shut the tank off, but that left us without any hot water. Not exactly a fun situation! (We were half-joking about heading to the gym just to grab a shower.) Mark arrived and immediately put us at ease. He was professional, kind, and genuinely patient -- taking the time to explain the issue clearly before getting to work. He diagnosed the problem quickly and had everything fixed in no time. Thanks to him, we had our hot water back and our weekend back on track. It means a lot when a company earns your trust not just once, but twice. If you're looking for a technician who is not only skilled but also truly cares about the people he's helping, Mark is your guy. We'll absolutely be calling Top Heating & Cooling again -- hopefully not too soon, but without hesitation when we need to! Thank you, Mark! You saved the day (and our shower plans)!

Most plumbers include those items in their estimate since they are typically required to be code compliant. My estimate with another company included all those items mentioned above, plus they refreshed some of my piping as needed for the original cost quoted ($400 less than Fast) and took care of the permit. I highly suggest looking elsewhere for water heater replacement unless you're in to playing games.
