This little gem is definitely worth a look. When you think of Hobbs, NM...well, you probably don't think of Hobbs NM- but if you do, you might think of a beautiful little mom and pop non-chain restaurant named Pacific Rim. I know it was a shit movie, but don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. Had some veggie stir-fry that was with the hunan sauce. The tuna is definitely sushi grade. They serve a Kobe beef burger, they're all over the map, but from what I saw tonight, they're pulling it off well. Very busy, but this is the only joint around of this caliber, so I can see why. Always torn on how to rate this restaurant. We have had some very good meals here and some that were just ok. The tuna tartare has always been amazing, with great flavor, and so has the almond crusted lamb chops. Other things we have tried were not always the best. It had been a while since my last visit, but I was craving good sushi. Ordered the salmon/avocado and Mango/spicy tuna rolls. The portions were very generous & were quite delicious. So, I didn't try any food here. This review is for my experience only, and not for the food. Here is why.... I stopped in after a long road trip. I enjoyed the fact that they have an actual bar. I sat at the bar and was served my drink. The bartender was quick to greet me and quick to serve. Then......I decided to order sushi. The nigiri options were BBQ eel (Unagi?), tuna, yellowtail and Izumi Dai (fancy word for farm raised Tilapia). I asked what type of tuna the "tuna" was as I see they also had "yellowtail". The server could not answer. She asked the sushi chef (who was in the back out of view). She came back and said "it's regular tuna". She seemed upset when I asked what "regular tuna" is. She told me it's "just regular" tuna "that's what he said". I was surprised that a sushi restaurant would not know the variety of fish they served and would further claim it's "regular tuna". Maguro, blue fin, etc??? Since I couldn't see nor talk to the guy who was to prepare raw fish of an unidentified variety, I chose to pay for my drink and not risk this adventure. They were unable to tell me what the BBQ eel was. Was it fresh water (unagi)? Sea eel? Of course I wouldn't expect a bartender to know all food she served unless it was in a sushi restaurant, but you would think the chef who is going to prepare it for you would. I would probably recommend anyone who cares anything about what type of fish you are eating to stay away. Unacceptable that a decent looking restaurant has no idea what fish they are serving. Been here twice now and It isn't all it's cracked up to be. Tried the sushi one day and although it wasn't as bad, I have tasted better. It was like an ingredient was missing!! Nothing fusion about it. I really wanted to Like this place, but both times I've been, the food is just unbelievably bad. The choose-your-own stir fry was barely cooked, barely warm, and drowning in sauce. Plus, the plate was mostly rice with almost no vegetables, and the scallops were basically inedible. Gross. I gave it another shot a few weeks later and tried the halibut, a personal favorite. It was extremely dry and full of bones. Like, chalky dry. The sweet potato mash was delicious, but the side shouldn't be the only good part of the meal. On the bright side, the place is casual. You can wear jeans and sandals, and no one cares. On the flip side, the interior is tacky, the food sucks, and it's incredibly overpriced, even to my Austin sensibilities. So yeah. This is Hobbs, so your options are minimal. As opposed to the Applebees across the street this place is staffed much better. The restaurant is huge with a cool ambiance. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The menu has an amazing variety. Happy hour from 3-6. We had house salads which were really good size and a nice mix of greens and other veggie goodies. It also had some of the lightest, crispiest croutons I have ever had. For the entree, we split the "build your own fried rice." Our selections were scallops, asparagus, broccoli, snow peas, jalapeños, and some other veggie. My dining companion and I could not agree on a sauce, so we got 2 on the side. Both were super tasty. If you find yourself in Hobbs; save yourself from the chains and go somewhere local! At PR you can have Italian, a burger, Asian, just about anything. The establishment is clean and the ambiance is appealing so I was disappointed in my visit. I ordered a glass of wine to start and was informed I had to buy the entire bottle as is their policy, so they don't let it go to waste because they don't get enough people that order it, despite there being wine displays all over the restaurant. Ordered their lettuce wraps to start and was served seasoned ground chicken, iceberg lettuce and hoisin sauce, which was pretty disappointing. After that, their sushi didn't have any quality fish on the menu besides crab and spicy tuna (which is just ground up seasoned yellowfin). There is higher quality sushi and variety at the local grocery store. However, the staff was nice, prompt and honest which I can appreciate. I've had the chance to eat here many times when traveling through town. Folks continuously rave about the food; yet I find my experiences trending in a downward direction especially considering the pricing. I find their menu too large and as a result they only cook about half of their items properly. Suggested items would be some of salads with fish. Items to avoid include sushi and stir fry. The sushi quality is OK considering the area but portion control is all over the map. As regards to the stir fry, it often seems to taste like they don't clean the wonk very well between orders and you end up with the flavor from the previous customer. Stir fry can also be over sauced. As for the service, in the bar it is terrible. The lady working there is the biggest "Debbie Downer" ; the service in the dinning area is slightly better. Seeking something different from our usual chain fare after a long day of work we came here. I do like myself some seafood but always iffy with it since I have food allergies when seafood isn't so fresh. I did have a minor reaction but nothing out of ordinary but what do I expect when I'm in Hobbs? I shared some calamari and got a talapia and shrimp salad. Flavors were good but not really particular "Asian" influenced as one may expect...and I should know I'm Asian. It's ok fusion with a variety of options that looked pretty good. I liked what I ate but wasn't wow-ed by anything honestly. It's definitely a different and refreshing restaurant from what you'd find around town (which isn't much). I also got a bottled beer I haven't seen anywhere which was pretty yummy as well. Shocking... The sushi was the best I've had in the Texas/New Mexico area. However it's hard to enjoy eating here as the prices are very high, confusing menu with Italian food, confusing Asian and American food. They say Asian Fusion Cuisine...looking at the menu it's a lot more like Asian Confusion! I get frustrated when restaurants dilute their brand identity. I have to sadly say, a terrible dining experience. Looks like the cooks forgot to follow their own menu descriptions. Service was spotty at best! The manager purposely sent another server over to ask for our drink order when he knew another server took it already just to "mess with him". The margarita was SO bad I could barely drink it...all sour mix and very little tequila. I know Hobbs is a small town with not too many restaurant options...but come on people this was beyond bad. We went here for Valentine's Day, we called ahead and they said come on down. We were seated as soon as we got there. There was live music and they had flowers on each table, very nice touch. My husband and I had the hot & sour soup, for starters, very good! We really enjoyed the sushi. The shrimp tempura was perfectly sweet, the roll had exactly what I wanted in it. Delish! My husband and I have been to Hobbs several times and I finally talked him into visiting Pacific Rim. It didn't disappoint! I don't know why Jennifer K had such a bad time, but our food was wonderful. We started with a nice bottle of Petit Syrah (great wine list) and the Crab Rangoon appetizers, which were lightly fried and nicely presented. We followed that with hot and sour soup, which was very flavorful. I chose the Ahi Tuna sushi--yum! Hubby had the choose-your-own stir fry which was more than enough for two people. I am a fan of their service and their eclectic menu. My traveling companion and I stopped by for dinner on night one of out TEEX training week. We ordered the lettuce wraps and pot stickers for appetizers. Nothing very impressive about the wraps (they served it with iceberg lettuce which made it impossible to "roll") but the pot stickers and dipping sauce were the real deal. My buddy had the tenderloin salad which he enjoyed and I had the build your own stir fry (vegetarian) with the sechzwan sauce. the veggies were cooked well and the sauce was decent. We travel from Waco to Cloudcroft a couple of times each summer, and stop in Hobbs. Our go-to place for a light dinner is Pacific Rim. The bar has a nice ambiance and an adequate wine selection. The crab Rangoon appetizer is delicious. And Adrian is superb. He is in the bar and efficiently and smoothly takes orders and delivers wine and food, all the while with a friendly, not obtrusive manner. We highly recommend Pacific Rim. read more

We have loved your restaurant for many years but tonight was absolutely the worst service ever. When we were seated there were two sets of silverware. It took at least 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us. She brought our drinks fairly quickly and took our appetizer order but said she would be back to take our order. We waited over 20 minutes for our appetizer and she had still not taken our order. The appetizer was cold. We ordered three soups and a salad to go with our meals but they never came. We received our meals and the food runner asked if we needed anything else. We told her we never received our soups and salads and we didn't have silverware. By that time husband and daughter just took the forks from the two sets we had. Our soups and his salad came out when we were finishing our meal. Our waitress never checked on us again and we had to get up and find our own salt pepper and soy sauce. Drinks were never refilled and so it's frustrating to be charge $3 for one cup. In this eastern corner of New Mexico, Tex/Mex, Mexican, steakhouse, home-style cooking and chains seems to be the norm. So what a surprise to find an Asian-themed restaurant in Hobbs, NM during a quest for decent Chinese food. Pacific Rim is run by a local Asian family who own a fairly popular local Chinese buffet restaurant. The restaurant's title hints at the menu theme - Asian cuisine from countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean area (China, Japan, Hawaii, California). The appetizer, soup/salad and entree menus reflect this theme. Their signature is the 'create your own stir-fry' option. You can choose from several combinations, or create your own if you feel adventurous. Service and ambiance is good - the restaurant is decorated at least 2 notches above casual dining, but you can still show up in jeans for dinner. The servers are very attentive and earnestly want you to enjoy your dining experience. In a concession to customer demand, they've added an Italian/create your own pasta' section to their menu. And they've started to expand their menu to include more European cuisines (eg - a spanish paella special they had one night). Hopefully they don't lose their original idea/mission in their effort to please the local palates. read more

Ok. I recommended them to my co-worker. I also went here a few times again. I must say, the service here is okay to not good. I don't like the fact that they start cleaning the place up while you're eating. That is very rude, especially you're posing to be a fancier restaurant in this town. I don't like that they're sweeping around my table, and putting the chairs up while I'm finishing my meal. Again, to-go here is a better option than dining in. I also brought my friends who were visiting me for Thanksgiving before. The food is not great, for the price we're paying. Again, the only good thing here is the lettuce wraps. My co-worker complained about them too. Her husband has gout so he cannot have soda. Her sister-in-law brings them lemonade, and they charge them $5 for bringing drinks outside. Seriously??? I live really close to this restaurant, but I would not spend my money here. If you want to keep customers, do not clean the restaurant while your customers are eating, have better customer service, and make your food nicer.
