Me and my friends were coming from a long day of national park hiking and this Chinese buffet was a pleasant surprise!! Giving it a 5/5 simply because if you're in the area, you must try! It was very clean inside, the food was always fresh and constantly being changed (there is one person dedicated to monitoring the levels of food so that nothing runs out). The Chinese food was mostly chicken but everything was crispy and hot and meaty - not mostly breading like some other places. Even the green beans were good! I would skip some of the items like the sushi, egg tarts, and soup, but the cakes, fruit, and apple pie were so delicious! On a LONG road trip and unsure where to go in Carlsbad, NM for dinner. We just finished a long day hiking at Carlsbad Caverns and we were tired and hungry. Being a smaller town, some of the places close earlier and I'm always a bit careful as to not get sick on the road. Dragon China Buffet had quite a few vehicles every time we passed by so we ended up there. After all a full parking lot generally shows the place to be pretty decent. We were greeted and asked how many in our party, then immediately seated. We came on a Saturday night and they appeared to be quite a bit of seafood. I don't know if that's the norm, but it was very good options for seafood. There was a lot of fried foods but there was also fresh sushi, tasty hot and sour and egg drop soups, traditional favorites & some new ones I had not seen or tried before, fish, crawfish, salt and pepper shrimp, salad, pizza, fresh bread, apple pie, jello, puddings, fruits, desserts, and ice cream. This was actually a pretty safe, tasty, and clean buffet. The bathroom was pretty clean also. They even had complimentary mouthwash. There is something for everyone here and I am glad we gave it a shot. They do far better than the Chinese buffets near us. There is something for everyone. Give it a try. read more

Service - 5/5 Ambience and layout is a bit outdated but the buffet was in the center and lots of options so 3/5 Now on to the food, I'd say lots of options but most of it was subpar. The only thing that was solid was the fried chicken wings, and chow mein. Oyster and sushi were decent in term of freshness. Everything else was doused in so much food coloring. Beef was chewy, hot and sour soup had chewy bamboo that's fibrous. 90% of the food was ehh. Overall, ok but not for the value. Not buffet people but we ate here during our visit to the Carlsbad Caverns. Came here around 5:30 pm and was seated right away. It got busier as we ate, with all the tables near us filling up. Food was good and the waitress was very attentive in refilling our drinks and clearing the plates. They have a variety of foods and were refilling the food constantly. Came in after a long drive and was starving! We got seated quickly and got our drink orders in. This is your typical Chinese buffet. My favorites were the lo mein, crawfish, and green beans. Their shrimp dishes were mediocre at best tho. Everything we had tasted fresh and delicious. The place was clean as well. The service was too notch. Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - very typical of a Chinese buffet where the food does lean on the saltier side but options for carbs, beef, pork, chicken, seafood, "sushi", fried food, and some desserts. The food was hot and we saw fresh food put out fairly consistently. Most of the sushi are crab salads (imitation crab with mayo) with one that's more similar to spicy tuna. Crawfish was good but does have an odd seasoning to it. The broccoli beef/chicken was yummy and one of the better dishes. The sweet and sour soup was very spicy from dried red peppers. There is an ice cream machine for dessert but it is more runny. Ambience: 5/5 - multiple TVs along the wall playing different sports games. No music with only minor decorations but clean overall with someone going by the food stations and wiping quite often Service: 5/5 - dedicated staff to each section of the seating. Since we did get an early dinner, at one point, we were the only table on his section so he was there every time we finished a plate or the drink ran low. While his English wasn't the best, he was friendly and very attentive Value for price: 4/5 - all you can eat price of $16.73 which comes out to an even $18 with tax. They changed our food and added new pans before things were empty so it always looked fresh and new. The service was awesome because each area had a dedicated waitstaff who would refill your water or help you with any needs. The price is a little above what I am used to, but it's reasonable for the variety, quality, and service. They have sushi, stir fry, desserts, soups, and a lot of seafood and regular options. It was pretty clean and each area had large TV screens also. They are also fairly busy around dinner time. I recommend parking close to the entrance because people were walking all over the parking lot and I noticed someone dumpster diving in the trash can nearby. The friendly staff members are constantly moving and checking on things. They keep the place mostly clean including the women's restroom. On 10/19/2022, there was a wide variety of Chinese cuisine options - even a sushi area that I didn't try, but also some items for my picky 8-year-old like pizza and mac n cheese. My husband travels for work. We are from Tx. He's been telling about this place for a while & on this work trip me & my daughter got to join & came to eat here. Best in a while I must say. I always judge on my staples: rice, hot & sour soup, ragoon, & egg rolls. Very very good! My daughter also said the sushi was so good especially the orange sauce, idk what it's called. My only complaint is the same complaint I have at every buffet- food gets cold quick so just do small increments, not like I do & you'll have no problems. lol. But 10/10 recommend!! read more

Normally we wouldn't choose buffets especially out of town in a small town. However today was a YOLO day and bit the bullet. It's 6pm and arrived to a busy time where almost every table was full but we was able to get a seat fairly quick. Greeted and seated with beverages ordered, we jumped right at it. This place has numerous typical American Chinese choices with some American items. Along with the simple sushi choices limited to 4-5 different rolls to add to your buffet choices. I'll be honest and did not expect good quality Chinese food but it was fairly decent to good considering it being in a small town. The staff is really attentive and nice, coming by in a timely manner to refill your beverage and/or clearing your used plates and bowls. The restaurant is well lit and open spaces with plenty of seating and TV's to keep you company while you eat. This is a choice for locals and definitely passerby tourists looking for a hearty meal or just some Chinese cuisines. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the mood for an AYCE or just some Chinese food and that's coming from a person who loves his Chinese food. Can't even remember the last time I have been to a buffet due to one too many bad experiences that have kept me away from them for years. It is so hard finding sanitary ones that don't destroy your insides these days. We were visiting from out of town and this was one of the only spots that looked good in the area. Safe to say they have regained our faith in buffets not only being safe to eat but delicious. Everything we had here was a hit! After going to Carlsbad Cavern, we were starving from not eating the whole day. I was craving some vegetables on a travelers diet so the Chinese buffet is an efficient and price effective way to load up on veggies and fiber lol. $14.95 for dinner in July 2021. Great variety of selection and overall tastes pretty decent. For being out far away from a high density asian area, they were able to source some pretty hard to find Asian ingredients. For example, the green beans have a pickled mustard stem that I figure just come a long way to get here lol. We had Jason taking care of us and he was very attentive and nice. I am vegan so I was skeptical but I found plenty to enjoy - seaweed salad, rice, noddles, green beans, broccoli that I picked from beef broccoli , I know it is not ideal vegan choice but the broccoli was cooked to perfection w a crunch and all. This place is not too bad. The staff are pretty attentive. They keep the place clean as well as keep the food stirred when possible to keep it from getting super soggy. The price is definitely not bad. It is not the best but it still pretty good. They keep the sweet and sour sauce separate from the fried chicken so they do not get soggy. They have baked crab meat which I thought was pretty good. The rice and noodle dishes are okay. The rice was a bit of a hit or miss. It could be super tough on some grains which makes it harder to eat. There is a sushi bar but the sushi is not the best. The rice taste bit old and the fish is tough and chewie. The crawfish is okay but I do not expect it to be fresh. They do have to go boxes but I do not know how that actually works. They have soft serve ice cream which taste as expected. Overall the experience was better than most places. If you want chinese food in this area, this is not bad. I thought the food was not bad but there were some dishes I avoid now. It is a standard Asian buffet, we were visiting and my kids really wanted noodles: They had a decently wide selection - sushi section that was mainly California rolls and spicy California rolls - salmon - too fishy - all the typical Americanized Chinese food - beef broccoli, kung pao chicken, general tsos chicken etc - really yummy fried donut balls - my kids liked the green beans and edamame, and the dumplings very yummy - pizza, Mac and cheese - there was an ice cream station The service was extremely nice and the place is huge so even though they had a lot of customers we were seated easily read more
