Terrible billing. Charge me 2X. Will not provide either justification or billing records. If I could provide zero stars I would.

I have gotten passed that and have begun working out with Brooke. She has started me at just the right pace and has gradually increased my workout intensity. I feel more and more comfortable, have increased to three times a week and have not missed a session or been late! She is thoughtful about what I do and changes the routine up to make it interesting. She recently added a short session with boxing and I just so much enjoy the variety, time goes very quickly. I was concerned about the distance from my work in RWC, but the drive through Portola Valley has proven to be relaxing as well as lovely! I am a healthcare professional who needed motivation and I have found my spot!

Their first evaluative consultation was insanely expensive ($340 for an evaluation visit!) and the whole objective of the visit was to try to get me to sign up for more visits. The "trainer" they had me work with towards the end of the visit was appallingly inexperienced and incompetent (I have had trainers for 30 years, I know good from bad.) The "manager," Fide, is aggressive and rude, literally shouting me down on the phone when I called to ask for details about the bill. What a horrific place, unless you are a masochist with low quality standards.

I had my membership revoked by the most horrible management of any gym I have been to in 50 years…read more As a former professional athlete, I have worked out all around the world with both teammates and competitors. The problem stems from the posted rules in the weight machine area. One rule says 30 minute limit on the machine. This is a cardio rule not a weight machine rule; any gym would be out of business if the second person waiting would wait an hour. To add insult to stupidity, the next rule says let others work in. I pointed out 10 times that the rules contradict each other, and you cannot both rules!!! SO by definition, you get to do one set with people waiting, and you simply rest off the machine. With massive numbers of students and unserious lifters, texting and talking, the flow is horrible. My attempts to get through my routine in a reasonable amount of time, were to say, "Can I work in a set?" No more than 1 in 10 times did I get the response required by the rules. I heard, "I have 5 sets left; I'm not done yet; go to another machine; no". I also tried to stand in their line of vision which would make a fair gym rat ask if I wanted to work in. Several incidents. I was told to go to the desk. Not one time did the completely useless desk staff ever go over and inform the person of the rules. Each incident was chalked up to my bad attitude. Trainers made me wait over 10 minutes while they introduced a newbie to a machine. The incompetent manager indicated that I was on shaky ground and finally terminated me. He told me that the members were a vulnerable group and needed to be treated respectfully. I treated no one as anything but the subject of my dead pan request to work in. I was called a creep. I was called a fu*king asshole and on and on. But at no point were the rules applied. Ever. So in this woke world, the follower of the stated rules was terminated and the rule breakers go on happy as you please. You don't to go here if you expect reasonable management and to get through your workout without constant, unnecessary delays. And the manager has refused to give me his boss's contact. BTW, I joined the Stanford University gym. Every machine has a plate attached to it "DONT HANG ON THE MACHINE. 5 MINUTE TIME LIMIT". Duh!!!!!

From day one, I felt at home. Francisco did my assessment and set the tone with a thoughtful, personalized approach. Corey, the owner, is so down-to-earth and even jumps in on classes. I've also trained with Jamie, Billy, and Damian, and every single coach brings both expertise and energy. They actually watch your form, coach you through adjustments, and push you in the right ways. What sets FL apart is their model: semi-private sessions (10 clients, 2 coaches), which means you get personalized attention without losing the motivation of a group atmosphere. The programming is smart--focused on movement quality, strength, and conditioning that translate into real-life performance. As someone training for Hyrox, this has been a game changer. The community here is just as strong as the workouts. People cheer each other on, and it truly feels like a team environment. Palo Alto, you're lucky to have this spot--I can't recommend it enough.

A nice acquaintance introduced me to this gym and I will admit that I was a bit intimidated. I've never really felt "at home" in a gym or workout place. But everyone was so nice and encouraging and from the first meeting this place showed me that it was really something else. We have officially been part of this community for three years now and I've never felt judged or diminished, rather appreciated and encouraged. Also, the community is so diverse, as are the coaches- who are seriously ALL amazing. It makes such a difference to see a range of bodies, ages, to hear from Celia Cruz to Chicago to M83. And they have such patience with my clambering children and even pups. I think seeing their mom lift heavy weights helps them see themselves as able and strong as well. My life is so much healthier and happier having this place to make me stronger and less stressed. I really do see this as one of the best investments I am doing in myself and well being for the long term. So! If you are local and are hoping to find a place to workout, that will take you as you are and just encourage you and push you to reach a stronger, healthier chapter of you you should check them out.

I booked the complimentary 1:1 Pilates intro just thinking it would be a nice add on and even told a friend I wasn't planning to continue after. That completely changed after my session with Joan McCarthy. I'm so glad I happened to be paired with her for that complimentary session. She is truly exceptional. I ended up buying a large pack of sessions right after and now see her twice a week. We've even done a few double sessions which have been amazing. I'm already seeing real progress in my strength, flexibility, and overall toning, and the principles she teaches have helped me get so much more out of my Solidcore and other group workouts. What really stands out is her energy and approach. She has such a positive and motivating attitude, and she really pushes me to challenge myself, find my limits, and get the most out of every session. I've also learned so much more about fitness and overall health from working with her. She combines deep Pilates expertise with a dance background, and her hands on adjustments are amazing. She also sends an in depth breakdown after each session of what we worked on and is very responsive, which makes everything feel thoughtful and personalized. I'll be honest I waited to write this because I wanted to lock in my recurring time slots first, which probably says everything. I'm fully obsessed. Thank you Joan!

That said, the Life Fitness treadmills are older and out of date compared to other less expensive Equinox clubs like Santa Monica, South Bay, and Newport Beach. Probably the least "premium" part of this location is the men's locker room and bathrooms. They're consistently humid, cramped, and not as clean as you'd expect from an Equinox. For a premium membership price, the facilities should be held to a higher standard. Good gym for getting a workout in, but the locker room experience drags down what could otherwise be a great club.
