Thank you San Diego Restaurant Week for having this as a location choice. The location of the restaurant is nice as you have views of the ocean from the outdoor seating area. The restaurant is located in a plaza which has parking and the parking ticket gets validated there. The outdoor seating area is set up very nicely with plenty of shade or sun for those who want that. The restaurant week lunch menu special was a soup or salad with a choice of entree, sandwich, burger, or entree salad. Starters and drinks were available at extra cost. We got the Cesar salad, clam chowder soup, fish tacos, fish & chips, the Brambleberry (drink), and the Grapefruit (drink). I thought the Cesar salad was done nicely. It was pre-dresses but wasn't soggy or drowning in dressing. The croutons were crunchy but not hard (my teeth thank you). The clam chowder was the best that I've ever had. The flavor was rich and the combination of items worked. Both drinks were very good with a very nice mix so they weren't to sweet. The tacos were okay, tasty but lacked in the complexity of flavor profiles. Don't get me wrong, they were still good and done well. The fish and chips had no complaints and the fries (chips) were really tasty. Our waitress was super nice and attentive as well as the other professional staff. I recently met up with a best friend to have lunch at Pacifica Del Mar. We ate dinner here many years ago. I've celebrated New Years Eve here. But it had been years since I've been back. They have a lunch menu and offered extra points on OpenTable. So what more of an incentive did we need to re visit Pacific Del Mar on a sunny afternoon. The restaurant was empty that day. Their patio with views of the ocean had a few tables occupied. Thank you Mr Manager/Host for seating us at the table right by the glass. We ordered: Baked pacific oysters $18: - The presentation was simple. The oysters were small. Two of them were unacceptably small. The raw oysters were topped with spinach, leeks, a cheese gratinee and then baked. The cheese gratinee was the star of this dish as it tasted creamy, rich, and had some essence of garlic. But the $18 price for the 6 small oysters wasn't justified. Lemongrass poached shrimp cocktail $15: - The shrimp wasn't jumbo as listed on the menu. They were more medium sized. The shrimp was over poached and tasted bland as well as tough. The cocktail sauce was average and needed more horseradish. $3 per shrimp for this appetizer was high. Crabmeat louie $18: - The salad was well plated and the bright baby carrots made the dish pretty. We weren't sure if the crab meat was fresh or prepackaged. The chopped romaine was fresh and friend enjoyed the yellow & red beets. She felt the salad was overdressed with the louie dressing. I thought the dressing was quite good. The dressing was similar to thousand island but without the sweet pickle relish. Barbecued sugar-spiced salmon $19: - My heart sunk when I saw the plate arrive at the table. The salmon was tiny. It was a long sliver. My heart perked up when I saw the doneness of the salmon. It was prepared a beautiful medium rare. The salmon tasted ocean fresh and was so supple. The fish was simply brilliant. The mustard sauce was delicately delicious and didn't over power the fish. The string beans were sauteed with fermented black beans which had a pungent salty punch to it. I liked it but felt it could have used half the fermented black beans. Creme brulee: - We were grateful when the server set the creme brulee on the table. She said she heard it was a birthday lunch. So thank you management for reading the comments on our OpenTable reservation. The creme brulee was fantastic. The sugary crust crackled when our hungry spoons dug in. The custard was so incredibly silky and smooth. You could see tons of vanilla bean flecks on the bottom of that beautiful custard. Chocolate Bon Bon $8: - The bon bon had an amaretto cookie filling. I'm not a fan of amaretto as the almond taste is too intense for me. The hard chocolate ganache was just ok and a bit thick. The cherry sauce was too sweet. One of my favorite places to visit. It's across the street from L'Auberge Del Mar. You will not only enjoy your food and cocktails but also the views. It's so beautiful! I can stay here for hours and hours and still won't get tired! They have a parking garage which offers 2hours free parking plus $2 in every additional 30mins. But if you are dining in, don't forget to have them validate your parking receipt to get credit back. There's a lot of other fine dining restaurants nearby and shops to visit. We planned on going somewhere else but it didn't work out so we decided to check out Pacifica and so happy we did. Last time we went was for dinner years ago and the menu has changed since. The bar was full so we sat outside and it was a beautiful night. Our server was amazing and the food and drinks were really good. Wednesday night is gon and vodka "you call 'em's". I got a specialty cocktail the Blackberry 75 which had gin and blackberry. I am not much of a gin person but this was tasty, not too sweet and not sour, just the right balance. Joel opted for a Sapphire and tonic. They have a warm, fresh olive bread with fresh butter which is a great little nibble. The grilled fish taco was also great, nice sized and came with a side of chips and salsa. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and my husband got the ahi salad. The crispy chicken sandwich wasn't bad, but there was a lot of breading. The fries that it came with were dreadful. They reminded me of elementary school fries..all limp. The ahi salad was good, but there was a lot of noodles in there. There was a good amount of ahi though. It's a great spot to sit, sip and watch the sun sink into the pacific...oh and a great spot to rest your tired feet after walking around the boutique mall. Overall it's a good place for a date night, family night, girls night, luncheons or whatever the occasion is! They're good at accommodating special requests and large groups. Another Amazing Experience. We travel to Southern Cal a couple of times a year. Pacifica is one of our favorite restaurants. This trip, we were celebrating our 30th anniversary. We drove an hour (one way) for the evening... the restaurant is that good! Other than the parking (allow extra time to find parking. It's crazy around there), the evening was flawless. Beautiful panoramic views of the sun setting over the Pacific, the best salmon I've ever eaten, and amazing service. I've got to give a shout out to the managers. It takes a TON of work to consistently create such a great experience. I also HIGHLY recommend asking for Paul as your server. He's nothing short of incredible. It's been a couple of years since I've been here. Seems things have changed. This place used to be classy and very well managed. The bar tenders and servers were top tier and the vibe was always great. Now, appears they have subpar bar tenders and servers and the place is just not the same. Not sure if management has changed as well, but it has definitely lost its touch. The servers are there just to take your orders, brink you the food and drinks...and that's it. This restaurant has been around for so long and my family and I kept wanting to try newer, more modern fusion places. Ultimately I keep coming back here because they are so CONSISTENT, food is so well SEASONED and BALANCED. My little foodie kids literally wiped every single plate clean. From that insane warm olive sourdough to the Thai broth in the mussels that has a slight kick, everything makes fireworks in your mouth. The Ceaser salad was fresh and dressed deliciously, and the crisps that come with it taste amazing in your leftover mussel broth. The calamari is crispy and both the aioli and the ginger soy sauce that came with it were amazing. The grilled octopus was the best I ever had!! Their seafood is fresh and prepared with such expertise. Every sauce and garnish compliments the dishes perfectly. I mean my kids even ate all the frisée that came with the octopus. Runnnnn don't walk if you're looking for a phenomenal meal. And despite ordering bread, a bunch of apps and meals we left feeling very satisfied but not heavy and overloaded. YUM!!!! read more

My friend and I went here for brunch during restaurant week for my first time. First of all, we were seated outside (where almost everyone was placed), and the view is gorgeous! I think that was one of my favorite things about the restaurant. The food was okay, so I'm glad that I paid for the two entrees for that restaurant week price. I really liked my salad! It was like any typical salad, though. It was a huge portion and I had to ask for extra dressing because it was dry. Also, I had the sugar-spiced salmon. The salmon was good, I wasn't much of a fan of the sugar-spice crust and the sauce that it came with. The mashed potatoes were my favorite of that entree. The wait for our food was a pretty long time. I understand that there are a lot of people, but we didn't get checked on too often. People that were seated way before us didn't get their food until later also. It probably took close to 40 minutes, I even finished my drink when I got my food. The customer service was alright. They gave you their regular portion size (generous). Some restaurants during restro week make the portion size way smaller, not Pacifica! We were impressed they gave you a really generous portion size. We got mussels, hamachi, calamari and shrimp. All were really good except the shrimp was a bit too salty. The mussels was in a rich curry lemongrass broth. Hamachi very fresh and calamari was great! Appetizers were bomb. We both got their 12oz ribeye for supplemental charge of $5, well worth it because it was all meat and no bones! It was cooked right and delicious. Dessert was delicious too! I got Bon Bon and he got Oreo cookies and cream ice cream sandwich... Both decadent! And a full portion size. Pacifica definitely will give you your restro week money worth. Bland flavorless food with tiny portions. Ordered fish with wilted spinach. Uneducated management proceeded to ask me and my family to switch seats while we were dining. When leaving the untrained bartender asked me to pay for my meal. This staff is disorganized and lacks communication as well as thinking they have the right to ask people to pay for a nasty meal that was already PAID for at the table. Came during happy hour on a Sunday (4-6:30 everyday and all night sunday and monday) and got a few items off of the bar menu. It was not too crowded so the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The salt and pepper chicken wings (a few bucks off during happy hour) were excellent! An upscale version of what you'd find in a chinese restaurant. It had the same great spicy, garlic, green onion flavor but the batter on the outside of the wings is much more delicate and thin. There is much less garlic and green onions piled on top, compared to a Chinese restaurant, but the flavor is there and the thin crisp batter elevates it for me. I'm not a fan of fish sauce so though the Vietnamese dipping sauce it came with was good, i just don't like the smell of fish sauce, so i asked for a side of green onion aioli (from the mustard catfish dish) It was very good i used every last drop of it, I'd recommend that on a burger and as a dip for fries too. The sugar spiced salmon salad was a huge entree sized salad. I loved the crunchiness of the mix of veggies and the taste of the dressing, it was nicely tossed and not over dressed. The fish was perfectly cooked, so delicate and tender but with a nice charred on the outside. I think adding some deep fried wonton strips and or peanuts on the salad would take the salad over the top. I'd order this salad again for sure. I also got the Peppered Ahi Takoshimi (half off during happy hour) it was 2 wonton skins deep-fried into a taco shell and stuffed with sliced seared peppered ahi and radish sprouts. I though it was pretty bland, it needed some sort of salt or acid to waken it up and a crunchy component to it as well besides just the wonton shell. I topped them with some of the green onion aioli and it was much better. I think some of the crispy salad would add an extra element of crunch to it as well. Probably. But lets move on. Visiting friends from Arizona wanted to take us out for some great seafood. Apparently they have crap for seafood and it was definitely on the to-do list while in town. Sure, you could easily suggest Oceanaire (still havent been) as a sure-fire way to impress with seafood...but on top of great seafood you are gonna pay a pretty penny for the gaslamp location -- and deal with driving to, and being in, the gaslamp. Pacifica offers a more affordable bill in a convenient location, with just as delectable options. 75% of our table got the halibut. O-My-Frickin-Goodness. From the moment i took a bite i was in heaven. i believe there were several "oh wows" and "this is one of the best meals ive ever had" coming out of my mouth. The fish was so fresh, so perfectly cooked, so flavorful. The accompanying fingerling potatoes were confit...cooked in duck fat...and had the smokiness of being cooked over open fire. and the creamed corn underneath the fish...wow. this is no canned creamed corn i remember from childhood. combine a bite of the fish with that and you got a forkful of heaven. One person got the beramundi (australian freshwater) and it was just as much of a shining star. much more rich and flavorful than the mild halibut and only slightly fishy of being freshwater. a very distinguishing and unique fish. we also got the calamari app and it was fantastic. esp with the fish sauce over the traditional creamy one. On top of props to the kitchen, I have to say our server Erin was amazing. Attentive, personable, caring, and just went above and beyond the basis role of serving. As mule snobs, we knew immediate that our cocktails were very poorly made and asked to return for something else. Instead of just obliging, she asked us to give it one more go since she knew how to have them remade (bartender hadnt used ginger beer, what?). They came out great. She also brought us a complimentary dessert to all share as an apology for the sub-par cocktails and made sure our garage parking was validated completely, instead of just for 2 hours. the entire experience was pretty much perfection. While my previous review was for dinner, this review will focus on brunch at Pacifica Del Mar. I planned a girls' brunch with eight friends and, after calling another nearby restaurant and learning they were booked, I was pleased that Pacifica Del Mar could accommodate us. In fact, I was surprised at how open the restaurant was for a Sunday brunch and it seemed that reservations wouldn't have even been necessary. We were seated "outside," which is actually an enclosed patio with heat lamps, and it felt very comfortable on a cloudy Del Mar spring day. One glance at the menu and I immediately knew that I would be ordering the cinnamon brioche french toast. My instinct proved right and it was one of the best french toasts that I've ever eaten. I highly recommend it. Some french toasts can be dried out but not this one. It was perfectly moist with swirls of delicious cinnamon running through it. It was so great that I barely even used the syrup that it's served with. I usually request jam with my french toast to add some moisture and flavor but it wasn't needed. Plus, it's also topped with sliced strawberries. The portion size is large and I only managed to eat a third of it and then finished it for the next two breakfasts at home. It even reheated well and didn't dry out. The restaurant validates parking for two hours, which is great, but be sure that you make it out before the two hours are up. I was a few minutes over two hours and ended up having to pay a few bucks. read more

I ordered the following: Blacken Fish taco: Pretty decent size taco. $3 on hh. Super good and filling Peppered Ahi Takoshimi: Ahi on a crispy wonton with tomoato shiitake salsa. Loved it. Shiitake is one of my favorite mushrooms. This was a perfect bite site. Salt & Pepper Fried Chicken Wings: I totally regret ordering the chicken wings, but that was after realizing I couldn't finish my food. The chicken wings were huge!! It was bit plain but I love the dipping sauce it came with. I was so full, tempted to take the chicken wings home but know it wouldn't be good the next day. Ugh shouldn't have ordered the chicken wings, but if I didn't I wouldn't have got the chance to taste the deliciousness of these wings. N yes these were bigger than your normal size buffalo wings. Super great deal at $5. My friend had order the blacken fish tacos as well. This place is great. If you sit at the right spot you can see the ocean and the sunset. Came here on a perfect sunny day to meet friends for lunch and sat outside for the ocean view. There is plenty of seating, and you can choose weather you want to sit in the sun, or at a more shaded table. The service was excellent and our waitress was very attentive. Immediately, they brought us fresh hot bread and butter. It was wonderful, we all enjoyed several pieces of it. The waitress brought us more as we ran out. Our water glasses were always filled. One of my friends ordered the ahi sandwich and it came out perfectly seared rare. She said it was delicious. .the caesars salad was substituted instead of fries and the portion was good and she also liked it very much. Another friend of mine ordered the rock shrimp and pasta dish that came with a creamy sauce. She didn't eat much of it and took most of it home. I got the large tiger prawns with penne pasta. It was lightly covered with olive oil and had capers and olives and arugula. Unfortunately, my shrimp were a bit fishy (did not taste fresh) and were dry and over cooked. The arugula was also overcooked and totally wilted. It also had too many capers which over powered the dish. I would not order this again. I don't get the hype?!?!?! although the service was spectacular and view was breathtaking...the food was at best average. My family and went to Pacifica for an early dinner last summer and not one item we had was good....between the 6 of us. The burger was dry, the soup tasted like a bowl of salt...the calamari was soggy....should i go on? I filled out a comment card and the owner was nice enough to invite us back by offering us a gift card. We happily accepted and gave it another shot (this time just my husband and I)....this time we sat on the patio and again the service and atmosphere was top notch. Our Saturday brunch was quite disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. 3 stars is a real stretch but I am feeling very generous today. I ordered Eggs Benedict. Eggs were served on a cheddar biscuit instead of a traditional muffin, which sounded really good. Even though my eggs were cooked perfectly, both biscuits were severely burned. They were black on top & were so dry that I would have gotten more moisture out of sand on a sunny day. I should have said something but I just left them on a plate. (If we had a decent server, he would have mentioned something when collecting my plate, but nobody cared) My mom & my husband both ordered Short Rib Hash. Meat on both plates was overcooked & dry. I guess "Dry" was the flavor of the day. My husband's poached eggs came out pretty hard boiled. Broccoli was great but it looked like they forgot to drain it or drained it directly into their plates.
