I made a mistake coming to this hotel. I encountered many problems. One of the most significant was the freezing cold of my room. I felt like I was inside an icebox. I was freezing. I called the hotel staff several times, but received no help. It seems the heating wasn't working. The temperature inside the hotel was 43 degrees Celsius outside and 45 degrees Celsius inside the room. I didn't sleep well; I was shivering from the cold. The music was playing all night. It was chaotic. You couldn't feel comfortable, at ease, or even sleep in this hotel. It was a very unpleasant place. I feel like I wasted my money here do not believe when you ask you will be received correct answer from them. That's what happened to me. I ask them everything before I come to this hotel. They told me think over the phone and I saw a different thing inside the hotel, even breakfast, you have to pay for it there is no free food here for the Hotel guests even Thanksgiving day there was charging money for food First day they're charging me $18 for the breakfast second day they charge me $8 someone ripped me off it's the worst nightmare was my staying there. I will never forget how cold was this room. Wake me up about 2 am in the morning. Use the hot water in the shower room to keep the room warm think about it. How chaos this business. read more

I had no issues checking in and checking out. If you pay in advance you get a better rate but it's only 20-40$. I paid cash. The incidentals deposit is 100$ and does need to have a card on file for that. The bar downstairs has an amazing drink menu, the food can be better had the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Now the room, we stayed in the Honcho Suite it's on the 5th floor and I thought the room would have a little more or be a little better. The view is great! I'll give it that but it is Bakersfield so not much lol. No parking unless in the ST or Valet and that's an extra 15$ the small Fuji waters in the room are 3$ each does have a fridge no microwave. There was some furniture in the room that was just useless there like in the walkway there was a black small dresser. The deal overly big not necessary. The tub in the room is great! Does make a mess water wise if using it. The shower is amazing the bathroom door has a farmers barn door, everything about that was beautiful, just could use a little more upgrades in a few places. Easily the nicest hotel in Bakersfield. I'm a previous local who has moved on but comes back to visit family and the Padre is my favorite place to stay. The rooms are nice and well kept, the valet service is convenient, and the cafe, restaurant, and bar downstairs are great. The staff is also very courteous and helpful. I forgot an item recently in my room and they called and texted after checkout to make sure I was notified. I definitely recommend a stay here. read more

I stayed in the 'Corner Pocket' room on the 7th floor; this room was decorated in varying shades greys, blacks and a bright pop of yellow on the padded vinyl headboard. The sitting area was a grey sectional couch surrounded by windows with airy window coverings. The bathroom was large with a black granite sink and very spacious shower that showcased black floral wallpaper and very good products (I loved the peppermint shampoo). The room boasted a fabulous view of an old Fox Theatre and parts of the old downtown which made me feel like I was time traveling to the turn of the 20th century. I really appreciated the valet service and I used it often; the valet's were very efficient and friendly; it was quite hot (100 plus degrees) and it was wonderful to just jump in my cooled car. I ate at the bar one night with my daughter and we shared the chicken pesto pizzeta and the Cubano sandwich. The pizzeta was sumptuous and enough for both of us; it was brimming with delicious and flavorfully seasoned chicken. The Cubano was also authentic and decadently delicious with a tender and delicious pork! Our bartenders were both friendly and fun! I would not stay anywhere else in this town! read more

The Padre Hotel in downtown Bakersfield is one of those resurrected gems of the past. It has been updated and modernized but still shows the quality and care that went into it's original incarnation back in the late Twenties. Our room was sleek and modern, with a memory foam mattress and walk in shower stall. Roomy and comfortable. Supplied with a full range of amenities, from coffee maker, fridge and water bottles to good quality shampoo, lotions and soap in the bath. The towels are also big and fluffy! The staff were friendly and helpful. The ground floor lobby is open and spacious, with a cafe on one side and a bar/restaurant on the other. Parking is easiest if you use the Padre's valet service ($15). Easier than using the nearby parking garage ($10) or searching for street parking that doesn't prohibit 2am-5am parking... read more

Stayed here for business. Choose the head honcho room which was $430 a night . Bathroom was larger than the room. Had a king size room with a small sectional . After taking a shower I grabbed the ready to use rolled up bath towel that is placed on bench in shower. There was a live cockroach in it. I dropped it and try to smash it hit it's a roach. They don't die. The hotel switched me to a another room which was a down grade to a much smaller and uglier room . After being in that room for 2 hours decided to just check out and drive the 4 hour drive back to the bay. read more

I had an excellent stay at the Padre hotel. The downstairs is all hard surfaces and very loud. But the sound doesn't carry upstairs to the rooms. My room was large, spotless, comfortable, very quiet, and a very pleasant place to spend the night. The Padre is my go-to place to stay if I'm in Bakersfield. read more

We checked in receiving an assurance from the valet crew that our vehicle would be watched by security and security cameras would be monitoring the valet parking lot. we suffered from theft and suffered losses of $500+. Tyler Bloomer the manager refused to take any responsibility and even refused to review the security camera. They took zero responsibilit and didn't comp our room nor cover the valet parking. We stayed here overnight on our way to Vegas. It was a Saturday night and we had reserved a corner pocket room. Upon arrival there is about 4 spaces to park by the front door to go in and register. Be careful of the front door it closes quickly and nailed me one time (it hurt). They had 2 employees at the front desk to check people in. Both were nice and professional. During check in we found out that there is very limited parking. The hotel itself has a small (maybe 12) car parking lot which was full. You can street park or go across the street and pay $10 per night to park in the city parking lot. Multi level and covered. The hotel let us take our bags up to our room before having to move the car so we did not have to try and cross the street with our luggage. Our corner pocket room was a good size, however the bathroom is all black and very dark and gloomy. Black Floors, Black counter, black shower. We were hungry for dinner so we went to the 2nd floor they have an outdoor bar and patio where you can get a drink and eat. Our server was on her 3rd day on the job but she was trying to do a good job. She was very nice. We ordered the power bowl which is brown rice, roasted yams, spinach, garlic, some greens and a sauce. I liked it my, husband did not. We also ordered the chicken wings which were way too spicy. Drinks were not very good. Should have ordered the pizza, it looked good on someone else's table. It is located in downtown (City offices, etc.), so on a Saturday night it was a little sketchy. We definitely would not have walked around. In driving around the corner to get to the parking lot there were homeless people hanging around. Since it is is downtown most everything was closed. read more

What a find. We are on a road trip and we're looking for someplace to stop to watch the 2nd half of the Super Bowl. Arriving in Bakersfield, I did a Yelp search of hotels and decided on the Padre based on all the good reviews. They were right, this is a gem. From the moment you walk thru the 2 story glass doors into the huge shiny lobby, you know it's classy. The gals at the front desk were perfect - friendly, fun, helpful, attentive. We went right into the attached restaurant/bar Brimstone and we're treated well by the bartenders and wait staff. The rooms are modern with a nice layout. Absolutely love the bathroom-bedroom connection with a drape to pull back to watch. Oooooh, fun. And the bed - the most comfortable bed in any hotel we have ever stayed at. We actually slept in our SUV at a rest stop for a few hours the previous night after checking out a couple disgusting name brand hotels in Kingman. So glad we found this beauty. Finally, having valet parking for overnight is such a load off our minds. We read several reviews of neighboring hotels where their cars were broken into, not an issue here. I had no idea the town of Shake 'n Bake (Bakersfield) had such a cool hotel (and so many tattoo parlors!) Headed north to Bass Lake over the summer, I decided to escape LA early and check out Bakersfield for a night. Looking for a nice place to stay, The Padre stood out as my kind of place. Upon arrival, I found the hotel beautiful, staff warm, welcoming and helpful (and the HEAT oppressive, 105* - not the hotel's issue.) Valet service for my car was excellent. Front desk, excellent again. Upon entering the room, I was pleased. Someone took the time to create a luxury space that was beautiful and inviting, however a bit worn and frayed around the edges. But, overall I was satisfied. I enjoyed my overnight stay and will definitely return again, what a lovely hotel. Thank you, Padre Hotel! 4.5 stars! read more

The cleaning crew did not clean properly. Also, the vents need to be cleaned as they show lots of lint filtering out. 3 Stars for the food in the evening restaurant. Beautiful hotel- a few things in my first of 3 days here: 1) huge party and I have a conference in the next two days that I am facilitating - Uber loud and there is no way I will be rested. For the price - it would be nice if they could contain the parties so they don't interfere with others staying 2) bar - I ordered my cocktail a specific way which came the polar opposite of what I asked for. Then the wine with dinner was NOT good 3) the meal - I asked for my steak to be medium rare and ended up with it well done. Waitress was good - she brought it back but it came back still not done right and I was charged for most. Bad news Again the hotel is pretty but the service isn't what I expected for the cost - especially for the meal. read more

I have spent the last three days trying to contact a person at this hotel. I stayed here on Friday night 12/13 I stayed under the reservation McGovern. My car was valeted I saw them take pictures of all 4 sides. I would like to request those pictures please. Both on my rims on the passenger side are significantly damaged. It's not a little scratch it's an almost half my back rim and a couple of dings in the front rim. You can tell someone leaned down and saw the damage because of the marks on my dirty car which you can see in the pictures. So the fact that someone knew the damage was there and didn't even try to do the right thing is the reason you're getting this review. The fact that I called 4 times and I cannot get ahold of any living person to address this is ridiculous. I work very hard for my things and I need someone to give me a number to call to make this right. And I need the pictures that were taken that day. read more

We came to stay here when we were in town for our anniversary. We stayed here on our wedding night nine years ago. We booked a suite in advance, and planned to stay here on a Wednesday. It was easy to book over the phone and the staff was helpful (same price as online too). When we arrived, we parked in the city lot across the street which was 10 dollars overnight. I think you can valet with them for 15. They very nicely upgraded our room free of charge, which was a nice surprise. The room, Farmer's Daughter, was beautiful and huge. It had a sitting area, wet bar, a jacuzzi tub, and a double headed shower. The furnishings are modern and a little funky. Overall, it's a fun hotel if you're in the area. A few negatives (the reason for my 4 stars instead of 5): -the room was a little warm- we had to set the air at like 60 to get it cool enough. -the beds have these feather things on top of them. They are just way too soft for my taste. I felt like I was sinking into it and getting stuck. - we asked for champagne flutes to be sent up and it took over an hour. read more

This hotel was the host hotel for a wedding, so, I found myself with a reservation for the Padre. A couple days before check-in, the hotel sent me a "pre-check in" link. Thinking this would save me the time of standing in line upon arrival, I took the time to do the pre-check in. The pre-check in link asked me what time I expected to arrive at the hotel. It was a four hour drive from Bakersfield, so, I estimated my arrival time around 3:30 p.m. This turned out to not be a terrible guess since I arrived at about twenty minutes after three. I went to the computers in the lobby for those who elected to pre-check in. When I went up to the computers, the first thing the computer asked me was my room number. As I was just checking in...I obviously did not have a room number and had to go to the front desk to check in anyway. It was at that time I was told my room was not yet ready since I had "estimated" my arrival time to be 3:30 p.m. I must have looked surprised because the person assisting at the front desk asked if I was part of the wedding party and when I said yes, he replied with, "Yes, almost everyone else has checked in. You are the last one to arrive." Not sure how that was pertinent to the process of check-in or if he said that because he thought it would make me feel better, but, it was irritating nonetheless. Apparently, check in here is 4pm, not 3pm. They told me I would have to wait 15-20 minutes, so, I took off looking for the restroom. When I was not able to locate the restroom, I returned to the front desk that was then inundated with a line of folks waiting to check in. There is a café in the lobby as well, but, when I walked in to ask for help locating the restroom, there was no one up front. After two laps of the lobby, I found the restrooms (they are downstairs, FYI, if you are reading this looking for the bathrooms). After I waited for 20+ minutes and was not waved over or contacted, I went back to the front desk for information about my room. He told me he was not going to wait for my room any longer and he would upgrade me to a suite. FYI - The hotel is valet parking only. There is no on-site parking lot, so, expect to pay for parking. There is a parking garage across the street that I understand to have comparable rates. The room itself was well appointed and attractive; very modern and clean. As far as getting ready for a wedding in the bathroom - can't say I recommend it. There are very few lights in the bathroom; it appears to all be part of a dark/modern aesthetic. I'm just sayin'...it made putting makeup on difficult. There was a makeup mirror in the bathroom, but, not kidding, once I turned it on, the light immediately went out. I left first thing in the morning on Sunday, so, points for having someone available to check me out and someone at valet to go get my car. Be that as it may, I likely won't be back here. read more

It got so bad I had to check out and move to the Marriott. I chose this place because I knew I needed a day during my travels to sit in my room and do a zoom meeting and other related work. I asked them before I booked very specifically will your Internet handle this? They emphatically answered yes. When I got here there was barely 5 MPS of Internet speed! WTH! They brought in a booster and we finally got Internet up to 18 MPS, seriously what the heck people this is my job here! I hope I can zoom with shared screens but frankly I am less than helpful. Thus I had to find another alternative. The next morning I realized that I had forgotten something so I had to go back to the hotel. When I did I spoke with the manager to takeoff the room charge which she did, however, not even so much as were sorry for your inconvenience. Note, that I went to check in they didn't have luggage carts available to help me with my bags; they said oh the "one" we have is in use now. Really? You only have one? I went to the front desk and they said oh we have another inside and they let me use I guess their second luggage cart for the entire hotel. Later, I watched a couple pull up with a lot of luggage the valet was very prompt in giving them the luggage cart and said here you go, really? Here you go? And let the couple do it themselves. Not the kind of service I would expect for a hotel that wants to be Bakersfield's new Renaissance. For dinner, I went downstairs and the bar was actually pretty cool and kind of lively for a Sunday night. I asked the bartender what he liked he says well first we're out of frankly about a third of the menu most the items that I was interested in literally most of the menu was out. I finally settled on a sausage pizza and then I heard the party next to me order something similar and he came back and said sorry ladies the gentleman over here got the last of the pizza dough; again, oh my god are you serious! Frankly the pizza wasn't that good. If I wasn't so tired from my travels I had planned on driving up further to Fresno to stay in one of the bigger hotels that I know would have better service and Internet. But here I am. And all honesty the location is in a very sketchy neighborhood I walked to breakfast on a Sunday morning and had two super aggressive panhandlers clearly on drugs or mental health issues come up and frankly accost me. The room itself is actually pretty comfortable. That's the only positive here. read more

We had a wonderful stay! Starting with my call to make the reservation with Theora. She was not only knowledgeable, she was very helpful and pleasant. When we arrived, the valets were very friendly and welcoming. While we were waiting in the lobby to check in, we went to the Farmacy for an iced coffee. Jasmine (sp) was very friendly and nice. When we checked in, I had the pleasure of meeting Theora in person! Very nice, welcoming and accommodating. She was able to provide us with a room on the 7th floor as we had requested. When we got to the room, the rollaway bed was not in the room yet. We didn't realize until later in the night after attending the JoKoy concert, that the rollaway was not in the room. My wife called down to the front desk and made them aware.  Within 10 minutes, a nice young man delivered the rollaway. The room was clean and very comfortable. It was also very roomy. Ample space to move around without bumping into each other. We also had a very nice view facing the Fox Theater. Now, we are Paranormal enthusiasts. We left our room about midnight. My son wanted to get some shots of the hotel and The Padre sign on top of the building at night. When we left, we left a voice recorder recording on the desk. We were gone for about 45 minutes. When we returned, we reviewed the recording. As we were listening, we heard a cat meow about 20 seconds apart. But it wasn't on the recording. It was live and the 3 of us heard it. When we went down for coffee in the morning, my wife asked the young man at the front desk if there was anyone with a cat staying in any of the rooms near us. (we got a little chuckle at the young lady working at the front desk, with a little side-eye from her) We were told there were not any cats in any of the rooms on the 7th floor. We found that interesting. We know it couldn't have come from the street since we were on the 7th floor. And not very likely to come from a room from above or below. And of course, we saw the handprint of the little girl (Ruthie) on the column in the Farmacy. So to simply put it, our stay met our expectations and more! We plan on returning to spend a full or extended weekend in Bakersfield, and staying at The Padre. Thank you for a wonderful stay at your beautiful hotel. Always fun to have a staycation downtown when attending events that are within walking distance. We've never stayed in the smallest room until this time, we weren't sure we would love it...but we still did!! The biggest shining star of this stay was Taylor at the front desk. If any business wants a model of what true customer service should look like, I would recommend interacting with her! It was SO refreshing to see an attentive, smiling, and overall amazing front desk person that was willing to (and did) go the extra mile for making our stay perfect. She's a real GEM!!!! The food offerings and places they're offered have changed again, more streamlined with only one menu that is universal across all of the outlets in the property. Love the vibe and the support of local businesses. The Kcups in the room are local from Rig City and the big bonus for me, my FAVE local coffee shop Cloud 9 Coffee has their whole bean coffee for sale in the lobby Cafe Farmacy and of course all of the coffee drinks are made with their coffee and they offer my beloved Cloud 9 menu. We really wanted to have a ghost experience since we stayed 5 doors down from haunted room but maybe next time. Beautiful hotel with nice decor and lots of history. Built in 1928 and remodeled in 2010. Thank you to staff who shared story of the child handprint in wood in Farmacy area. I love this hotel! The "vibe" for lack of a better word is great! I love vintage style things and this hotel is it. VINTAGE MEETS FAB! I want to start by saying their customer service is OUTSTANDING! After booking they send you an email checking in, asking if your stay is for a specific occasion or if anything else is needed. Of course, being the high maintenance person I am, I replied and asked for a reservation to be booked for dinner (as open table wasn't working for me.) I quickly had a response verifying my dinner reservation was booked?!? Like what!? SCORE! All extra accommodations I asked for was also done via email! 5/5 Look, Anything that saves me a phone call is a win in my book! The hotel itself is in a great location (downtown Bakersfield) and the hotel has plenty of food as well (all three restaurants are great). One of my favorite places to stay in Bakersfield, rooms are always clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly, and bar that is in the lobby always has attentive bar / waiting staff even when busy, their drinks have yet to disappoint. Also their cafe in the lobby has always had friendly staff, I have never had a bad experience. There is valet for $15 I believe, or there is a city structure across the street for $10 maximum, and has security. Easily accessible to other businesses and restaurants in the downtown area, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting. read more

Recently I attended a celebration of life on the second floor of the Padre Hotel. It's been a while since I had the pleasure of visiting this historic landmark. I was greeted by a bellman as I entered, immediately I forgot how grand this place was.The entry and lobby was busy with patrons checking out (11am) a few were at the bar. Everyone I encountered had a smile or good morning for me. I decided to use the stairs, at the first stair landing I stopped to look down across the spacious first floor everyone was busy, visitors guests and workers even the people outside were too, as it was raining. I felt like I was going back in time as I ascended the elegant vintage stairway. I was greeted and the entrance to our private gathering by a pleasant hostess. Went for dinner ended up staying the night. I've always wanted to stay at the padre and finally got the time and chance to do it . The place is amazing our room was spectacular, it was above and beyond our expectations. We stayed on the 8th floor over looking the fox theater. Our room was spacious and completely up to date and modern. We went down to the second floor late in the evening to the prairie fire lounge for some after dinner drinks. Kayla our bartender was super friendly and made a delicious old fashioned with the house barrel aged bourbon. My wife and I hung out there till closing , goodtimes! In the morning we ordered room service and breakfast was on point. Overall a excellent experience and we'll definitely be staying here again in the near future. read more
