We've wanted to update our downstairs flooring for a few years. This year was finally the year. I…read morelove keeping my business local, and JD Hoss made me SO happy that I did. We shopped a couple places, but when we saw a reclaimed oak floor sample in JD's shop, we were hooked. He referred us to a local place that has had it in their gallery for years - high traffic, right off the street, and it looked amazing there too. We decided to replace the carpet and tile in our entire downstairs (1300sf). This meant demolishing tile in the kitchen, plus ripping out carpet in all the other rooms. We also planned a kitchen remodel for the summer (its all gone pretty well and we're still happily married). JD worked with us on scheduling around the kitchen demolition, cabinet install and we planned a little vacation when he was going to be making a lot of saw dust in the house. We came back from vacation to the most gorgeous floors and a surprisingly clean house (they masked off the upstairs and did a good job cleaning up after themselves). We can't get over how amazing the floors look. It has transformed the look of our house. JD Hoss' service was perfect - on time, on schedule (despite us making small changes) and on budget. This was on a Friday. He was supposed to buy baseboards over the weekend and paint them and then install on Monday. It lightly snowed on Monday and he didn't show up. Then Tuesday came and he didn't show up and wouldn't answer texts either. He said he was gonna show up on Wednesday. When I confirmed again, he said it was too stressful and he wasn't gonna do the job and kept the $200. Bad faith dealing. I wanted to give him a chance despite his bad reviews but he totally messed up and kept the $200. He said that was the price for measuring! Do not hire him and save yourself a lot of anguish. They were polite and informative but unfortunately were not able to come to terms with my insurance adjuster due to a lack of sufficient information requested by the insurance company. Contacted another company through Yelp and do have an agreement. Just a heads up, their quote was right on target with my insurance company where Mills Roofing was significantly higher.

Unfortunately, their bid was a full $15,000-20,000 higher than literally any other bid I received (BEFORE any additional labor charges) which is honestly, complete insanity. The other 5 companies I got bids from were respected, highly reviewed business also -- it's not like I'm comparing Mills to unlicensed, under the table deals. And I'm just a normal residential homeowner, ~1400sqft of roof, not even like a giant industrial complex! For that reason alone Mills was immediately out of the running. I'm sure they do great work based on these reviews, but you'll certainly pay for it.
