My family had recently hosted an event at their banquet hall and we liked the food that was catered. While the exterior may not be too appealing, and the interior ambiance was plain and simple, the restaurant itself was clean. We were greeted by person, who was the cashier, host and server at the same time. Later on, I did notice the owner come in as the restaurant had gotten busy. I believe he used to be a partial owner of Shahnai restaurant. My friend wanted samosas as appetizers, so we ordered a few of them. We also ordered daal (lentils), and a mixed grilled platter, which consisted of Chicken Tikka, Chicken boti, Seekh Kabobs with sautéed onions. Regardless of diet, one must order Naan with these items. Our samosas were hot n crispy. Daal was creamy and rich with flavor and the grilled items were very good. Naan came hot off the oven and was a perfect compliment to the meal. They had plenty of other grilled items and traditional dishes which are available on the menu. From what I hear, they also serve a buffet, which might be for lunch only. Inquire within. I do plan on visiting again soon. read more

Rafat was extremely rude ruined the decor and put up random curtains while it was clearly stated that the bride wanted floral decor and when confronted stopped the shipment of food because of him the guests didnt get food on time and the ENTIRE even was delayed which annoyed the guests and ruined the WHOLE event including decor, food, and management. We had breakfast here. Per managment they recently took over the resturant. They were nice and friendly. We were there early and they accomadate us and got our order quickly. Halwa Puri is probably the best I had so far in Houston. Puri was soft, not too greasy and very authentic. Qeema partha tasted great fresh and home made feeling. Found this place very childish and amateur at customer service. I placed an order through Grub Hub using first-time order promotion and while their system even accepted my order, some guy called a few minutes later telling me that they will only process the order if I add more items and increase the minimum price. Now, I get it if a restaurant sets these conditions for business purposes but come on now, it's a complete no-no to go back on the acceptance of an order that your system already processed. Why fight over a few dollars when you can lose customer loyalty in the process? And we all know Pakwan House can use some customer loyalty because the food here is plain average, to be generous. This is the second place I have tried chicken biryani. I usually drive several miles across town, but decided to give this neighborhood business a chance. It's a good thing I didn't check Yelp before deciding on this place. Don't let the unassuming exterior keep you from being adventurous. The inside is quaint and clean, which works for me. The quick glimpse behind the kitchen doors I managed to do didn't raise any red flags. They offer a minimal buffet for less than $11 a person. The one man in the front served as the host, cashier, and server was very pleasant as he greeted me with a smile. I ordered one order of chicken biryani to go and he fixed a to-go box from the food on the buffet. I really wish he had let me fix it myself, but it wasn't a deal breaker because he gave me a bountiful serving. Had I fixed it, I would have definitely added more than 1 chicken leg and 2 tiny pieces of chicken about the size of a ping pong ball. Other than the small amount of chicken, I thoroughly enjoyed the burst of flavors with various spices. On a personal side note, they could reduce the amount of what I assume were peppercorns in the dish. Overall, I am pretty sure I will be back, but will definitely ask for more chicken. read more

My complaint is that the food was served 25 minutes after we ordered even though there weren't many customers in the restaurant at the time. This place is near my house and I would go to get naan from here every time I have a dawat and I beg them to not make them paper thin and burnt yet they fucking can't make decent naan and I have offered to pay them twice the price per naan but they say they'll make them better and when I get home and put them out for the party I am embarrassed of this garbage quality. If you own a halal restaurant in Houston please realize that your restaurant is not the only one and that you have competition so at least show customers that you are trying. The buffet appears so old and stale, the raita is old and gone bad, biryani rice is so hard since it's left over from the catering over the weekend, the tikka has blood at the joints, the butter chicken has a burnt flavor from being left on the stove. The desert is ok once every few times. For the sake of the lord, please try to make decent food and stop ripping people off with old food left from catering orders and frozen food that y'all keep reheating. I was bummed when BBQ tonite closed it's doors but was told they would have a re-grand opening under a new name. That became Pakwan House. Pakwan House isn't much to look at inside. They took the restaurant out of the spacious BBQ Tonite building and leased a side building beside it. A few tables and chairs set up and the buffet bar in the back. The food however was good. I didn't like the service when it came to hot fresh naans coming to the table. Plus they don't bring water to your table, you have to get it out of a cooler dispenser and it's not even cold! That's unacceptable if you ask me. The raita was watered down. The Chicken Tikka was nice and spicy, the chicken biryani was passable but the butter chicken needs work, too basic and not spicy enough. If they want to stick around longer than BBQ tonite they better step their game up on the service, presentation and basic essentials like cold water and hot naans! read more

Pakwan House is now operating by a new management team, and we had the time of our lives last weekend. Pakwan House provided the wedding site, décor, cake, and food for my first cousin. Excellent services, fantastic décor, and a very pleasant staff, particularly Asim, who is an outstanding event organizer. We have attended several weddings in Houston over the last two decades, but the meal provided by Asim and his colleagues was unlike anything we had ever tasted. The cake, as well as the arrangements and decoration that accompanied it, were out of this world. Asim is a perfectionist who leaves no space for mistake. There was nothing to criticize. Pakwan House organized and served both Baraat and Walima receptions, and we are grateful that we trusted them with both occasions. We highly recommend them and feel confident enough in their abilities to arrange all of our future events.
