We hosted my mom's birthday party here, and everything was set up beautifully when we arrived. The staff was also kind enough to offer to help us with the few additional decorations we had brought. The waitstaff was well-mannered, attentive, and efficient throughout the event. I also appreciated that they provided bottles of water at the tables, so guests didn't have to keep going to the bar just to get water. There was a great variety of food to choose from, and everything we selected was delicious. The Lahori fish and yakhni pulao were definitely my favorites. This is probably more of a 3.5 but I'm rounding up to a 4 because the service is very good and the owner/workers really go out of their way to get to know us. They ran out of something that they wanted but they recommended things for us based on the other things we ordered and they also suggested things that would not suit our taste palette. Sort of remind me of Aga's except the food quality is not as diverse and less busy (which may be what someone wants - Aga's parking is awful and it can be a zoo outside the restaurant sometimes). Restaurant is pretty spacious and bigger than I thought. Probably would never have to wait long for a table. My husband got the briyani; tasted pretty good but there was not that much meat. I believe I got the Murgh Bihari Boti and it was a pretty big portion. We also got some naan bread. I'd put this in the Houston Elite Pakistani restaurant category. Aga's reigns supreme, while Himalaya's crazy owner causes a significant decline in their service and even food quality. But what if I don't feel like the Mela like atmosphere at Agas? Or what if I'm tired of heavy masala? I've got two legit options in Sugar Land - DDK and Lasbela. I've only tried them once, but the food was very very good. So was the service. And the ambiance was great, I would be proud to bring my bank clients to this restaurant as it showcases Pakistani culture (not in a tacky way). With Labela, it doesn't feel like you're going to another Pakistani restaurant- it feels like you're going to specifically eat lasbela. They are solidly in my top 3 Pakistani restaurants in Houston. Lasbela Pakistan Cuisine - Sugarland I've noticed that Indo-Pak food tastes better than it photographs. Of the many Houston Restaurant Weeks menus that we've tried, the best in flavor and value by a long shot is at a place I had not heard anything about until finding them on an HRW list - Lasbela, a delightful, and beautiful Pakistani restaurant in Sugar Land (13849 Southwest Freeway). We first visited this location when it was called Mai Colachi, which we really liked, but the new place is even better. If you love Indo-Pakistani food (and if you don't, I'm sorry for you!) We thoroughly enjoyed every course. Some were stunning. I usually stay away from sweet-and-sour chicken, but the Patakha chicken here, infused with a brisk spicy kick, is a riveting Pakistani-Chinese version with subtle hints of turmeric and mango. The word "riveting" can also be said for the restaurant's version of Pakistani fish and chips, the Muzang fried fish, featuring an ambrosial batter and a homemade sauce that looks like tartar but tastes like Heaven. The second course includes a selection of savory kebabs and tender strips of chicken marinated in cream and spices and described perfectly on the menu as being of "melt in the mouth texture." The third course brought three enormous karahi (deep cooking pots that look like woks) containing a trio of delights, including my favorite dish of the evening, the murgh malai handi, featuring a rich, savory mélange of tender chicken, fresh cream, butter (and plenty of it), herbs and spices. This and the other 2 dishes mix perfectly with 2 massive mounds of rice that you can choose at no extra cost to accompany the meal--we went with the spicy and the cumin versions. You can also choose at no extra cost any of their selection of naan--we loved the garlic naan. And though we were stuffed and staring at an enormous amount of leftovers, we couldn't resist the dessert course, which included a creamy ice cream-like burfilee, a sundae-like dilbahar ananas, and spectacular warmed gulab jamun served in fragrant rose water. The drinks here, all non-alcoholic, are also creative and wonderful. Aftab was very helpful in explaining each of them. We tried the Lala Rukh, a very refreshing cooler made with strawberries, as well as the Burg-E-Gul, made with rosewater. The restaurant is beautiful with soothing music. Came to the restaurant during the end of the Sunday breakfast brunch. Staff initially said we couldn't order a la carte but the owner was kind enough to accommodate and let us order off the menu. Service was 10/10 with the owner and waiter checking up on us frequently. Food was delicious and came out fresh and very hot! We had samosas and fried fish for appetizers. Both very tasty. We also had the murgh bihari boti which was amazing. Perfectly seasoned and the meat was incredibly tender. We went here for Houston Restaurant Weeks. We ordered everything on their menu and they were all delicious. My favorite is the gobi (cauliflower) and dhunwadar (had a smoky taste and spicy). We get to choose between rice and naan (plain, butter, or garlic). They surprised us with a drink that tasted like a mojito mocktail. We ordered the lychee and mango flavors. They also surprised us with dessert: mango ice cream and gulab jamon (they looked like grapes) with a cute umbrella. The restaurant is very fancy and dark. The staff was very attentive and asked us what we thought of their food and drink and explained what they're made of. They even have a light to aid us when we were taking pictures of their food. Chicken (Murgh) Makhani Handi (Handi referring to the bowl it's served in) was delicious. Need to order with rice and naan, as it is served family-style, just like other Indo-Pak restaurants in the area. Beautiful restaurant with white table cloths. We came in to dine Wednesday night around 6pm and the place was empty. We were promptly sat. My husband loves Indian food, we all do, and normally visit aga's upto 6x a year minimum. So we decided to try Lasbela's due to the excellent reviews both from yelp and Google. I regret to say that the food was very underwhelming and seemed under seasoned than what were used to. I needed a salt shaker on my table after attempting to eat the flavorless whole fried chicken. We may have ordered the wrong items but we ordered 6 dishes. Lamb chops (3/5), chicken tawa Tika (1/5), butter chicken (3/5) another handi dish that was cream based (3/5), whole fried chicken (1/5) and garlic/butter Naan (3/5). We also ordered samosa bites (3/5) and the masala fries (2/5). Aside from the Crispness of the fries, it lacked salt and flavor. Which was pretty much the theme of the tawa chicken and the deep fried whole chicken. Like I said, maybe we ordered the wrong items but regretfully, will not return to try other dishes. It was recommended by family who is live in Houston and we along with a cousin' and his family decided to try it out. Since it's hard to get a spot without reservations we decided to get there at opening and try our luck at lunch. They were able to accommodate us. We ordered a bunch of different things and for a higher end dining experience the prices are not like a $50 steakhouse or anything but definitely more than you'd expect at an average Pakistani place. They definitely do a damn fine job on the service end of things and our server Ali C. was on the spot and very meticulous with his craft so to say. He offered recommendations on dishes and guidance on portion sizes along with doing the right amount of checking in. The food itself was pretty good. There wasn't any one dish that stood out per se as the "best I've eaten" but it was all really good and did the reputation justice. We have heard so much about Lasbela. All good things. So this past Saturday, my husband and I decided to check it out. We ordered the murgh chole (chicken and chickpeas), bhindi masala (okra), beef keema, some naan and rice. All these are dishes that we are familiar with - having eaten at other Indo-Pak restaurants. I also cook these at home. Based on feedback from friends, we were of course excited about and looked forward to trying the food. The first thing I tried was the murgh chole. Maybe I expected too much, but I was underwhelmed at first bite. I can't quite pinpoint it but the flavor was off. The pieces of chicken appear to have been cooked separately. It was probably just added and mixed with the chole and sauce when you place the order. The chicken pieces didn't absorb the flavors from the sauce - the meat was tasteless. The bhindi masala was another major disappointment. It was a little watery and lacked flavor but maybe that's just how it is supposed to be. Maybe it is also not fair for me to compare the bhindi masala here with those that I have eaten elsewhere. Another thing, the okras were fibrous but it was our fault that we did not inform them about this... The keema was ok. It was very spicy but the attentive wait staff had already warned us about it. We liked the ambience and service was great. The place was crowded. An indication of how popular it is. She was attentive and polite too. My friend and I came for lunch, and we had the Lasbela mutton karahi, murgh malai handi, and garlic naan. The mutton karahi had the right amount of spice. The meat was tender, and the gravy was flavorful. The murgh malai handi was creamy, and not spicy. The chicken pieces are slightly over cooked but the flavors were great. For people who can't handle spice but would like to just-do-it, consider ordering the mutton karahi and murgh malai handi because the cream in murgh malai handi balances the spiciness of the mutton karahi. The garlic naan was so fragrant. It had the right amount of garlic, and it was soft. To end our meal, we had the plain burfilee which had thin slices of almond on it. The burfilee was creamy but not overly sweet. It was a good dessert. I also had a cup of masala chai. The tea was fragrant and I could taste the black tea. I remember coming here earlier, last year, I believe, and did not end up writing a review, but I definitely wanted to write one this time. I am big on professionalism and I am happy to say that this establishment has great customer service and they bring the food out happily and promptly. They have a great setting that makes it actually feel like you're going out to eat, instead of just grabbing a quick bite. I love their white chicken karahi and the fresh bread (naan) that they give. The kalonji naan and garlic naan are fantastic. I think the prices are fair and I would definitely bring more family and friends here if I had the chance. If I lived closer, or still worked in this side of town, I would be a regular! The man who I believe is the owner even gave a light to someone to hold up while we took family pictures and I thought that was absolutely a great and memorable touch! Alright, so my review is based upon having home cooked Pakistani food from my lovely father in law, may his soul rest in peace, as during his time in earth he introduced me to such many different Pakistani dishes. (My husband has too, but he's more of the order from Aga's type.) Things that I think are unique to this place are the appetizers, such as the masala fries (delicious) and spicy cheesy bites. I think their appetizers can hold very strong against other places and I have no problem coming back for masala fries alone. My only main gripe is that the quality of the ingredients isn't as high. I think if they used better beef for the nihari and possibly did the little things like adding more paneer it would be amazing and easily become a four star/five star place. While it's currently a 3.5 in my books, this is definitely place I'd come back too. I think the ingredient quality is the only thing missing that would make this place shine and taste more like the home cooked Pakistani food I became accustomed too. read more

Avoid this place and just go to Agas Restaurant. You will get better food for the price you pay here. We ordered Hasan Zai Karahi, Naan & Jeera lassi. They just topped the gravy in the curry with the boiled meat. The meat doesn't have the spices that are supposed to be there when cooked with gravy. The worst part was the lassi, I was expecting some kind of cumin powder to be mixed with the lassi but it was just the yogurt mixed with salt and topped with cumin seeds, seriously!! I tried the Kemari Shrimp. The sauce is not great. It's too spicy and doesn't really go with shrimp. I also tried the Chilman Murgh Biryani and the Yakhni Pulao Kusbudar. Both were just okay. I am Indian and my mom makes really good biryani so this is something that I'm probably harsher on than most others. Mango lassi was okay.. a little on the sour side. My wife and I were looking for an alternative when Aga's was closed, and came across this restaurant while looking around for comparable establishments. We ordered our usual favorites-- Nihari, Palak Paneer, samosas, and naans-- to get a solid idea of how this restaurant stacks up against Aga's, which has quickly become our favorite Indo Pakistanti restaurant in the area. From the visit to the restaurant, we were very impressed. The venue was beautiful, decorated in upscale fashion, and the service was quick and very attentive. The food, on the other hand, was solid but a step down from our favorite. The Palak Paneer was a bit thin, as if they'd skimped on the spinach and other greens, and the paneer didn't have quite the same consistency we're used to. The Nihari was closer, but the meat was a bit fatty. Overall, we'd probably never pick this place over Aga's, but if we're ever in a similar situation where we'd have to pick an alternative, we'd definitely go back. read more

Our host, Raza, made sure to inform us about spice level of all the dishes we were looking at and advised us based on our taste. For dessert we had a kulfi+gulab jaman platter and... I usually don't even like kulfi but we wiped that plate clean. The kulfi was not overwhelmingly sweet and the gulab jaman were warm- just perfect. Very nice decor, suitable for date nights. Much fancier inside than it looks outside. Samosa meats lacked flavor. Mango lassi was light on yogurt and semi warm. I wish it was colder. I don't eat organ meat, but those who partook said it was a little too much seasoning to cover the organ flavor. The palak paneer was good. The daal reminded me of mung beans. I'm not 100% sure if I liked it. It wasn't bad, but was missing the flavor I like. The murgh makhani handi was great! It had a stronger tomato tang that I enjoyed. The rice was a little dry, but still managed to have a buttery taste. The biryani was a little dry and had an interesting aftertaste, kind of like what you get after eating lucas/taijin.talking. The pink chai was really tasty. Made me think of a liquid soap papdi. I think that the menu is very diverse and good for adventurous eaters.
