My husband and I went to the Palace Arms for our anniversary dinner last night. August 30, 2016, and were extremely disappointed! Apparently, it's only recently happened, but the whole menu has changed. The place was almost empty, which we thought was strange, even for a Tuesday night. Our waiter Harrison, was competent but he informed us that they no longer have the table side Caesar salad or the Bananas Foster table side. The menu had no tournedos Rossini, and I did not see any of the "older" more experienced waiters there. My husband ordered the Mexican street risotto as a first course and it was barely 2 tablespoons. I had a salad which was just okay. He had the Colorado beef, which was small and dry. I ordered the halibut. It arrived wrapped up in a cellophane package with a bow, which would have been okay, but the cellophane kept getting in the way and lapping over onto the tabletop. So, not having the option of the previously wonderful Bananas Foster, I ordered the Colorado peach dessert with cornbread and about a tablespoon of ice cream. Oh! And I forgot! I ordered the caviar supplement ($20) for my cellophane wrapped halibut, but it was pretty tasteless. We had 2 Martinis and a glass of red wine and our bill was almost $300 for our meal. AND, we left hungry! Btw, they now have a bread cart, which you pay extra for, that has bread, cheese and I guess other stuff. We just wanted some bread with our meal, which our server must have sneaked from the kitchen. Two of the tiniest little rolls I've ever seen. We visit Denver every year and after reading so many raving reviews finally went for dinner to this "legendary" place. It wasn't just a disappointment, It was a WOW disappointment!!! AMBIANCE: lot's of "glitter" and kind of "class" but bathroom does not have hand towels, so first time in my life in the hotel/restaurant of this caliber I had to dry my hands with toilet tissues. The dining room was dark and uninviting, so if it's called "old school dining" ambiance then I belong to the" new school" one. SERVICE: stuffy, but definitely not really professional. FOOD: not tasty at all, in some dishes over salted, in the case of fish overcooked, bland and all together BORING. Not even one dish hit the spot. VALUE: and that is the most disappointing factor. If this experience would happen in the regular restaurant with the regular prices of $50 to $60 p/p I would say OK, not a big deal and loss of money and time. BUT when you dare to charge $65 for a steak, when dinner for two cost is $200+ without drinks and you deliver nothing but disappointment, that's when I say it's not OK, it's a false and pretentious place, and I feel that I should warn people about it. Unless you are too wealthy and don't care about quality of the experience you are getting for your money I would say stay away from Palace Arm. read more

Going to the Palace Arms at the Brown Palace was such an amazing experience. My wife and I have birthdays a week apart and I wanted to take her there since she's never been. We are both Denver natives and we loved the historic aspect. I am a vegetarian so we both did the 3 course dinner tasting. It was incredible. The food was perfect and we were treated so well. Completely over rated!!!! The service was marginal at best (our waitress actually asked us if we were ready to order even before we had our menus). The man serving bread was way more attentive than any of the staff, The portions were incredibly small and way overpriced. The menu has little in the way of description of the entrees. "Beef : Pork : lobster" but really no explanation ofbhow it's prepared or the cut of the meat. Hamburger and filet are both "beef" so tell me which. It was "ribeye" yet what came out with two tiny medallion style pieces of what was supposed to be a ribeye. Assumed a steak at $55. The table side Caesar was basically a head of romaine lettuce and 4 homemade croutons, barely any salad dressing and very minimal Parmesan cheese. Extremely garlicy and tons of anchovy seriously not my favorite! Completely deceived and disappointed! On top of that when we made the reservation we told them explicitly it was a birthday celebration yet nothing was done. However, the table next to us had a birthday dessert on the house. Considering how small the portions were a free dessert would've been worthwhile! Especially for those of us who never order dessert. If you want to get dressed up, experience the pretense of a high end, over priced restaurant with marginal service and below par food then go for it! You won't be disappointed. However if you're looking for something exceptional avoid this place and stick with the chop house, capital grille, Elway's. There are PLENTY of other places in Denver that out shine the Palace Arms. This was a fabulous dining experience. Not for those in a hurry. Wonderful for spending time with somebody important. For our visit they hit it out of the park. Service and food were outstanding. Again, this is fine dining, which is unhurried and gives you time to spend with your companions. No 16 oz. steak, but portion size is more than adequate. We came to the hotel for a one night getaway and made reservations at the Palace Arms dining room. The dining room has a Royalty theme with flags and pictures of military leaders on the walls. Very classy ambiance to go with the classy meal. The manager came over and offered his recommendation for a bottle of wine. I was pleasantly surprised with his choice because it wasn't too expensive and fit my taste to a T. We started with the crab cake which my husband liked more than I did. We both thought the Caesar salad for 2 was out of this world. Our server prepared it right in front of us. I got the Bison and my husband got the Lamb for dinner, both were delicious! We ended the meal with the lemon poppyseed Creme Brûlée, rich with a beautiful texture. Pricey place for sure, but we loved it for a special occasion splurge. Would recommend the cigar bar across the way too if you want to continue the evening after dinner! read more

We had dinner here this weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food is amazing, but the service is top notch. We went off the server's recommendations for appetizer (crab cakes), salad (their table side Caesar salad is the best salad I have ever had), and entrée (my husband had the duck, I had the scallops- Both were 'lick your plate good'). The wife and I went here for an anniversary dinner and were blown away with the service and food. Everything from the time we pulled up out front to the end of our dinner was perfect. They even had our car waiting for us when we finished. The food was one of the best meals I have ever had in my life - simply outstanding in every aspect. My husband and I had dinner at the Palace Arms on Christmas Eve, and unfortunately, our Christmas was ruined by the exorbitant price of the meal which, when all was said and done, came to $550 for the two of us. We reserved a table in the hotel because we were staying there and didn't think anything else would be open on Christmas Eve. Not having done sufficient research, admittedly, it wasn't until we sat down that we learned of the fixed price $135 Christmas Eve dinner. Having been told that our reservation was the only one available at the two restaurants in the hotel, we took it and were informed that there would be a $50 cancellation fee, so we stayed. Long story short, we waited quite awhile for service, the restaurant was vacant, and for that price, we certainly weren't treated like royalty. Icing on the cake, when we were offered coffee with dessert, we didn't expect to be charged...that was another $5 on top of the meal! With the $75 wine pairing, and a generous tip for the wait staff because it was Christmas, we left the restaurant spending more money than we ever intended to pay staying in town for Christmas! I wouldn't have even written this review had the food and beverage manager responded to my email and tried to make the experience a bit more palatable. Just beware of the price, and don't expect the service to coincide with it. With all the great restaurants out there offering impeccable customer service, this place is not worth it. read more

If you've got an evening where, for what ever reason, you want really great food, wine and service, where everything will be perfect and you're willing to pay for it, this is the place in Denver. I moved here via California from London and a few other places, and had a very dear Californian, former New Yorker, friend in town. We wanted to have a nice meal and a proper catch up. As I say, we're both Californian girls who when you offer us Russian River or French wine will chant Russian River before you've finished the sentence. Likewise $100 a head for two outstanding courses and great wine to us, while not cheap, is good value. Food and wine was great, indulgent and perfectly prepared and presented. But the standout was the service - brilliantly timed, charming, attentive. We had plenty of time to catch up, never felt we were interrupted and everything flowed effortlessly, which as we all know, takes enormous effort from the wait staff. The photographs don't really do it justice, the rooms have high ceilings and the decor, while clubby, is not overdone and it is very quiet. It was easy to hear my friend, and all I could hear of the other diners was a background murmur and the odd clink of cutlery. I am a big fan of historic restaurants and hotels and The Palace Arms Restaurant, in the iconic Brown Palace, was a double thrill. It was like stepping into history, when I entered the elegant Palace Arms Restaurant. The chandeliers, white tablecloths and well-known flag display made me feel like I was stepping into a grand old movie. But there was nothing stuffy about the historic atmosphere or the incredibly welcoming staff! Chef Kasper made my visit so very memorable. I laughed about a recipe for French Pancakes that had been on their menu in the '50's. They no longer serve pancakes, but he surprised my husband and myself with his very own concoction with small pancakes, goat cheese, syrup, cherries and a topping of a luscious, flan type goodie. We sampled other amazing dishes and heard some good stories, as well. I so wish we had not just been traveling through or we would have come another night. I am just incredibly impressed with how well Chef Kasper has merged the charming setting with refreshing new flavors and personality. The word Palace should not intimidate anyone! This is a very fancy restaurant and has a lot of history. Do not go here if you want modern surroundings, but if you want an old fashioned high end atmosphere this is the place for you. I have to say I was kind of disappointed with the food. It wasn't bad, but the prices are definitely not justified. You are pretty much paying for the service and location of being in the Brown Palace hotel. One of the servers did a table-side ceasar and for dessert had also did Banana's foster. The dessert was hands down the best part of the meal and the very nice gentleman knew a ton of history about the hotel and restaurant which was very cool. I had the french onion soup which I didn't care for, as it was not the traditional style I love ($12). It had good flavor but I like it prepared the traditional way so I was a little let down when it came out. The duck was good but nothing I would go out of my way to get again, and especially not for $38 (the cheapest entree on the menu). They do have an amazing wine selection that looks more like a large encyclopedia. read more

It was a very pleasant experience. The food was quite good though I think a little pricey for quality and service but we had a nice experience. I started with the special 'soup of the moment' rabbit with a rosemary infused broth. It was delicious. All three of us had the halibut special which was quite good. My sister who can't tolerate much salt found things too salty, though my stepmother and I did not think so. Brownie for dessert was very good but they were out of the cardamom flavored ice cream to go with it which disappointed me. The little dabs of interesting sauces with the brownie were excellent. As I said before, very good service and nice sized portions but a little pricey for the whole package. It's a very traditional type of place but we knew that coming in. I won't be in a hurry to return there having experienced it, but would recommend it for someone wanting that atmosphere read more
