Main Street has a fun new spot that is worth a visit. The service is fantastic, the vibe is funky, and the food is delicious. I wanted to give the full five stars, but the pricing of menu items is a bit inflated. I stopped in last night for dinner around 6:30. This is a great time to come in because you can see dusk descend on the Arts District through the large windows at the front in the glow of chandeliers overhead. At 7, a singer/piano player came in and performed jazzy covers throughout the night. He was really talented and brought great energy to the space. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table while my brother and I ordered cocktails. I had their rendition of an espresso martini, which I highly recommend. My brother ordered the drink that was delivered to the table in a smoking box and was impressed with the flavor as well as the presentation. For appetizers, we had a 1/2 dozen West Coast oysters, the "Queso di Saganaki," and the "Lady in Green" salad. The oysters were pristine! The "queso" dish reminded me of a flaming saganaki that you could get on the westside of Chicago and was pretty good. However they failed to heat it up enough to get the cheese to that melty consistency that I look for in this type of dish. The salad was tasty and fresh but felt incomplete. The dish was a couple of slices of green apple covered in a dressing and arranged on the plate with a few croutons. It could have been a knockout, sharable salad for the table if placed on a bed of greens. For entrees, my mother ordered the pork belly app, which was delicious and reminded me of the pork chasu on top of ramen. I ordered the mushroom ravioli which was ok but not really a show stopper. The best dish by far was what my sister and brother ordered. They split the fried chicken meal. This dish was the highlight of the evening and the reason I would come back. Along with the perfectly fried chicken was a creamy mac and chees, sweet roasted carrots, and fluffy freshly baked homemade biscuits. The service was impeccable. From the kitchen to the front of the house, everyone was working hard to make the night enjoyable. I appreciated that the server remembered my family and welcomed me on my first visit. Loved this foodie forward restaurant. Spots like this is why we live in Las Vegas. Famous chefs on the strip leave and open their own creative concepts. Food- super creative, well balanced, reasonably priced. - duck dynasty: I'm not a huge fan of cornbread, but this dish was tasty. It was too big for two people, so I wish they did half size. This would be great for a larger group, and the duck bacon and gochujang torchon were my favorites. Coconut scallops- the scallops were so fresh in this dish. Perfect texture and flavor. It could have been more cold though. Crown kale and persimmon salad- I've never seen kale like this before. i'm so glad I got to try it since I love trying new things. We asked for the food to be coursed out, but those three dishes all came out at once. Scallops ended up getting warm, and the cornbread from the duck Dynasty ended up getting cold and soggy on the bottom. It would have been better if they coursed out the food for us a little bit more, so we can order more drinks along the way. Our final dish was the Branzino. The skin was so crispy! One of the best I've ever had. The lighting was kind of off since it was pretty bright for such sexy furniture. I loved the live music (until 10pm). Making a reservation online was easy. The table was booked a week in advance. Staff were very engaging, and their menu favorites were also recommended. The interior is beautiful. Sadly we didn't stay for the live entertainment. We ordered : Lady in Green Painter's Beef Tartare (tableside) Soy Charred Short Ribs Faroe island salmon Dessert - birds nest. Each dish was full of varying flavors that also highlighted the textures. Short ribs were tender and fell apart easily. Salmon had a crispy yet glazed outer layer. Decor and ambience - classy. The entire staff was accommodating and friendly - I wish I got our server's name - he was patient with our questions and had excellent recommendations. We think we had the opportunity to chat with Rudy because he told us about paying homage to his Filipino roots. The food was AMAZING. But I really fell in love with the biscuits - soft and warm inside with a crunchy outside. The homemade jam (watermelon what!) and butter - also delicious. And for dessert we tried the Palate de Dulcet - a bunch of bite sized treats. My favorite was the granola with marshmallow - it was healthy enough with a side of naughty. Very disappointed today. Had this been my experience the first time I went, which was purely five stars, I would not be coming back. The good: the biscuits are still incredible and it came with a carrot jam and maple butter, and both were amazing. As well, the rose drink I ordered was still good. My daughter ordered the overnight pancakes and she liked them and gave them 3.5 out of five, yet would not order them again, and my son ordered the steak with potato and scrambled egg breakfast which was the most expensive item on the menu, and it was good. My spouse ordered the chicken and gravy, which was just OK but they said they would not consider ever ordering it again. So why only three stars? I ordered the frittata, and the last time I ordered it was fantastic. It was chockfull of sun-dried tomatoes and cheese and it was just so delicious. It was well seasoned. This time... Is there a different chef or was the chef off their game today? The frittata was awful! Completely under seasoned and just looked like a soufflé of eggs without any seasoning, with barely any sun dried tomatoes in it, barely any onion in it, and it was just gross. I had to put so much salt on it and pepper. What I was irritated by was that there was no salt and pepper on the table, and when we asked our server, who is very nice, it took almost 5 minutes to get it, and we realized that they had to put salt and pepper in a little plates that came to our table, because they don't have salt and pepper shakers. I found that very strange. The prices are reasonable, but they're not cheap. The ambiance is still lovely with the same beautiful chairs and beautiful coloring. Overall, it is a 25 minute a 30 minute drive for us to get here and I would not do it again with my experience today, even with their wonderful biscuits. There are too many other good places to go to. Very unfortunate, because the first time I was there was unreal and it was so good, and this was a very opposite experience. This shows a lack of consistency and that's one of the worst things when it comes to rating restaurants for me. Overall, today's experience was just meh. Complete opposite of experience last week. With that said, Palate accommodated the couple with a pre set menu and approval of decorations and usage of their Beautiful library nook. They were also able to outsource her requested cake. As soon as you walk in the Decor smacks you with such a delight! The colors, the ambiance, the furniture and the whole feel in there is absolutely PERFECT! We had a family style pre-set menu for our small party. The bloody Mary's, old fashions, their signature tea pot cocktail and their Rose cocktail were always Perfectly executed. I will start with my favorite dishes. 1- The Kimchi fried Rice with pork belly-MUST order.. 2- Southern hospitality- WOW!! Best collard greens & roasted pepper biscuits.. Perfect! 3- Tiger style scallops- Super fresh, light & so much flavor. 4- Shrimp Toast-Simple yet complex and full of flavor. 4- Roasted pork shoulder with the Bao buns. Not my favorite but tasty. For dessert we had the cake that was outsourced so we did not try any sweets they offered. All the plates had outstanding flavors, the combination of fresh ingredients with a twist of innovation. I applaud the Chef and the owners. Both of the owners made their rounds and they were both so very proud and hospitable. This place has a lot of potential. Some things I loved, some things I hated and some things that were just a little weird/off putting. First--the service was great. Nothing better than a group of good humored happy individuals having a good time at work with each other and serving you. On the flip side, I think they try to go "above and beyond" to the point that it was annoying in some moments. One person kept coming over and asking how everything was in the middle of us chewing and having our own private convo. Then they'd join in on our convo. It's ok if it happens once, but every ten minutes during a two hour experience is annoying. Might as well sit down and have dinner with us at that point. There was another person who kept coming and repositioning our silverware on the table. If the fork and knife weren't perfectly straight, they were coming and moving it. Each time they came over and touched our silverware, they touched the "head" of the silverware--you know, the part that goes in your food and in your mouth. Maybe this isn't a big deal to most, but it made me cringe watching them touch every table in the restaurant and then repeatedly touch my silverware. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to ruin the evening. But I hated that. There was another guy who felt like we needed additional plates before our food came out--only to fight for space on the table when he brought our food over. Instead of seamlessly placing the food in front of us, he spent a while trying to rearrange alllll the empty plates he gave us to make room for the food we ordered. Everything we ordered came on its own plate--which we could have eaten off of and did. I stacked every single empty plate and asked him to take them away. There weren't many people dining at the time we were there. So there were about 4 employees kind of hovering our table to ensure they didn't miss anything. Kind of just standing by so close to make sure that if I took one sip of water, they immediately refilled that one sip. I get it. But sometimes people just want to enjoy their meal and converse without being hovered over the entire time. I felt like I couldn't talk freely because all these other people were just right there looking at us. It was just too much. All the food was SUPERIOR. Everything tasted amazing. Steak, fried chicken, biscuits, sides. All of it amazing. However, I would be very careful with the kimchi Mac and cheese. I personally was disgusted by it. But I know people personally who have tried it and LOVE it. If you like Mac and cheese, just know that it tastes more like a creamy kimchi pasta. It doesn't give Mac and cheese" vibes at all. If you like kimchi and feel like you can mix it with creamy pasta, go for it. If you like Mac and cheese and you're expecting that with a little kick--don't do it. Other than that, the restaurant is nice. The ambiance is great. The people working, again are great. I'd go back for sure, I'd just let it be known that we don't need to be checked on too often and I won't be adventurous with food items lol. read more

We decided to make Palate our Restaurant Week donation this year. We had not been before and thought it looked great walking by while in the arts district. It is a very cool place with the right mix of hip and classic for a date night. I love an open kitchen and they are proud of theirs. The service was fantastic. Our wait team was very knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. The manager came to talk to us when I had an issue with some scallops. It was what I would expect. The food is great. I recommend the pork belly app. The short rib was a great main. It wasn't busy on a Thursday night but we had a good temp issue (scallops) so it's a 4 star. Visited for a date night on a First Friday Downtown. We were surprised how slow it was considering the madness of Downtown. Their being slow was a good thing considering they are usually slammed so we lucked out. Service and staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Hard to choose what was our favorite: we had the Biscuits, Green Lady, and Scallop ceviche for starters. Each unlike anything we've ever had and unbelievably delicious.
