DO NOT BUY EYE GLASSES FROM THEM! If I could give 0 stars I would have I had been a patient of theirs for 35 years. Always had a great experience with Dr. Gusippe - he is a good optometrist. It's the office manager and the rest of the office that there is an issue with. Recently went to pick up glasses and and sun glasses. I could not see out of the lenses, pain in my eyes when wearing and the sunglasses seemed wavy so could not wear them either. I wanted to return both pair, but they would not give me a refund for the lenses! Only refunded me for the frames. Even when I could not see out of them. I called them a day after wearing g the glasses, but had to see dr before they would let me return them. I had them for a week and tried to wear them. I had been to another eye dr about a year ago, and when the glasses didn't work, they refunded in full. I guess with a new office, they need the money..... CRAZY that they won't refund a customers money when the glasses do not work!!!! They lost a long time customer. This is not the same place I have been going to for years. read more

Business was not upfront about bill before performing an additional exam they claimed I needed, but I had healthy eyes. This claim had extra service charges. Reception also has poor customer service and is extremely rude in answering billing questions. read more

Going to the eye doc is not on my list of "favorites." It's not that I get all anxiety ridden about it, I just don't particularly like sticking my face and eyes behind a bunch of lenses and screens. But hey, I need to see clearly and thus the eye exam is necessary for my contact wearing orbs. This office is pleasant overall - friendly staff, plenty o' selections on the glasses front and even a solid variety of magazines in the bright waiting area. The folks who led me through my pre-exam were competent and kind, being sure to take their time to walk me through the tests they were performing. It's worth noting that the additional eye screens (to check the back of your retina, I believe) are almost assumed, even though your insurance doesn't cover it. As for Dr. Palermo, he briefed me through the ins and outs of my asigmatism, which I've apparently developed over the past few years. And even though he demonstrated the clarity between the regular and toric lenses, I just couldn't bring myself to fork over that much extra cash for special lenses. He explained the differences in wear and cost but didn't pressure me to buy one way or the other...he even snagged the rebate form for my yearly contact lens order. Nice! When the final bill was settled I found the exam and contact prices a bit higher than normal (10-15%), but not so much that I wouldn't make Palermo my go-to eye doc. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Mario Palermo for 9 years. He and all of his staff have been personable and professional. He has always been willing to answer all of my questions. He diagnosed my glaucoma. The drops he prescribed have stopped it's progression. I'm also happy with the contacts I purchase from him. read more

I went there for several years. While my contacts never fit 100%, they were a much better fit than I was used to (I have astigmatism). The staff was great to work with though. The only reason I left was that my insurance changed. The new eye doc I go to carries special contacts for patients with astigmatism, and I have had much better success with them. read more

I tried to write a negative review in April of 2016, and somehow it got blocked - and I had a personal email exchange about it with none other but Dr. Palermo. Let's try again - here's the original text: === This place is a rip-off. My order - progressive/transitional/anti-glare, new frames, etc. cost me $426 after insurance. A more or less identical order a year ago at Costco cost me $252 BEFORE insurance. A duplicate entry in the invoice was explained to me as "left and right lens" entries, although nowhere did it say that, nor was a price list presented to me. The examination went kind of mater-of-fact. Dr Palermo went off of my last year's Costco prescription and with only a couple of tries was ready with the new one. Then, with little warning he dilated my pupils and suggested that while waiting for the drops to work, I go and discuss a new glasses order with an optician, who had trouble holding things and speaking clearly. That left me wondering whether the dilation was coincidental, or a well thought out sales technique to be talked through an order while blurry-eyed ;) They will not have me as a repeat customer. read more

Nobody touches my eyes except Dr. Palermo! I found Dr. Palermo many years ago. Now I live in Chicago, but I drive to Arlington Heights to see Dr. Palermo, because he's the only Optometrist. I trust. I've lived in other cities where I've seen other eye doctors, but when I returned to Dr. Palermo, he set me straight on what was safe and what was not. (This is especially important to me as an extended-wear contact lens wearer.) He keeps up on all the new research and products, and I trust him completely. Dr. Vito Giuseffi is as good as optometrists get: he is knowledgeable, patient, compassionate, and extremely passionate about what he does. He has served as a mentor for me and a large influence in my decision to become an optometrist. As a child, I was also a patient of his. Through the years he has always been a gentle man who could find ways to make seeing the eye doctor an enjoyable experience for anyone, even a small child. For the past two years he has allowed me to observe him at his practice, and he really has a knack for explaining difficult concepts in simple ways. From simply watching and listening to him, I have learned a lot. I would highly recommend Palermo Eye Care, particularly Dr. Giuseffi or Dr. Laura--I do not personally know Dr. Mario Palermo all that well--to anyone, ESPECIALLY anyone who appreciates an optometrist with plenty of medical experience. read more

This past January I purchased progressive lenses from Palermo, following an exam with Laura Palermo. I had some issues with the lenses. After two visits with another optometrist who acted as a barrier to attempt to discourage me from pursuing my issue, I was finally able to see Laura P. again. She explained the benefits of an upgrade to a digital process for cutting the lenses, and how they would help solve the issue. Based on her recommendation, I agreed to the upgrade at a cost of $195. Had I been told that the upgrade could have the same issue as the original lenses, I never would have purchased them. Unfortunately it was never mentioned. I disputed the bill with my credit card company, and Palermo's response was laced with errors by omission and outright inaccuracies (read any way you want). I echo the comments of William E. (2/8/13)..."kind of sleazy". I guess it runs in the family. I give them zero stars for, in my opinion, total lack of integrity. read more

The receptionist Amanda is so rude. I called over a month ago for an appointment after 6:30pm. She told me that she schedule my appointment for 6:40pm. I arrived at 6:30pm which is 10 minutes early only to have Amanda say I missed my appointment at 6:15pm. I told her that my appointment is at 6:40pm and she was very rude saying that's not what I have here on the computer. Dr. Palermo did my eye exam but only after waiting over an hour. Parking is horrible here. It's in a lot and half the spots are employee only. The spots are so tight. There are plenty of other eye care places. I would highly recommend not going here. read more

Palermo associates made my transition back to specs painless. Dr. Laura is friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable. Most importantly, I felt like she really listened to me. I wanted daily contacts for a trip to Europe. Dr. Laura didn't think they were the right option at first, but she found the right ones and they are great. Fast forward to last week when I finally decided I had had enough of those cheap, scratched discount glasses. Returning to Palermo, my exam was fast and thorough. They had a great selection of frames, and the associate that helped me pick my frames and fitted them, well she gave me the best eyeglass buying experience that I had ever had ... and that's a lot because I've been wearing these suckers for more than 20 years. My visit seemed OK until later when I found out he unexpectedly billed my health insurance for diagnosing me with "dry eyes". This "diagnosis" consisted of a 20-second conversation in which I asked what I could use for my eyes when I'm staring at a computer screen all day. He told me to get over-the-counter drops like Visine. And BAM! $145 out-of-pocket for that! I talked extensively with my insurance company and my father's optometrist and found out this is a common diagnosis that dishonest optometrists sometimes sneak on their patients. General eye care insurance normally doesn't cover this charge so it gets billed against your health insurance deductible. Due to this, it changed my opinion of the office and I now consider Dr. Palermo (the elder) kind of sleazy. read more

They have a policy that they will not see three family members in a row unless it is the last appt. of the day and just Mon. or Tues. because it disrupts the flow of the office. So since I am a working mother of three I am not able to see them unless I break up my kids appts, which is inconvenient and ridiculous. My dentist and pediatricians office can handle three kids in a row, so I think there policy says a lot about how they operate and they are certainly not family friendly. I would discourage anyone from doing business with a business with such ridiculous policies. read more
