After leaving the community center in Grapevine, TX, I had a craving for some Mexican food. I had…read moreheard several people talking about Mi Dia From Scratch, so I decided it was finally time to see what all the buzz was about. I arrived during the lunch rush, and both the parking lot and the restaurant were packed. Even though they were extremely busy, we were immediately greeted by a courteous and polite young man who quickly escorted us to a booth. We were seated in Ms. Maria's section, and she was a wonderful server. She greeted us with a warm smile, brought us menus along with the lunch menu, chips and salsa, and promptly served our water. She gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and was friendly, attentive, and very courteous throughout our meal. The chips and salsa were very good. My only suggestion would be to offer a salsa without cilantro for those who prefer it. We ordered the Create Your Own Combo Plate, which included a chicken flauta, a crispy taco, rice, and refried beans topped with cheese for $15.50. The taco was perfectly crispy and well seasoned, while the chicken flauta was covered in a flavorful red chile sauce that had just the right amount of heat. The rice and refried beans were seasoned perfectly and complemented the meal well. We also ordered the chimichanga, smothered in cheese sauce and served with rice and refried beans, for $16.00. It was well seasoned, delicious, and satisfying. The flavors weren't overpowering--they were balanced and enjoyable, making it a dish I would gladly order again. This was my first visit to Mi Dia From Scratch, and I came away very impressed. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lively, and the restaurant also offers a nice outdoor seating area. Between the excellent service and flavorful food, I will definitely be back. I hope you'll give it a try too!

Upon ordering, you get a a basket of chips with the red and green salsa. I had the hatch tacos and they were AMAZING. The meat was cooked to perfection and had great flavor in terms of seasoning. The bartender was very kind and welcoming. The restaurant is very clean. Their use of fresh herbs infuses the restaurant with a wonderful and pleasing scent. This place is a mass that you have not tried it!!!

We were greeted quickly, and several people came by to check on us throughout the meal, both our waitress and others. Everyone was so bubbly and friendly, and it really felt like they were working as a team to get everything done which I love to see!! Our waitress Jackie was THE. BEST. She was attentive and friendly, and just such an energetic presence that made the whole experience feel joyful and lively! I would come back literally just for her. As far as the food goes, I got the crispy tacos and they were amazing! The portion was smaller than I'm used to, but I understand that's a brunch thing. Despite the size they were spectacular!! Crispy and light shells, flavorful tacos, and the beans!!!!!!! I wanted a whole big bowl of them. I would definitely visit again if I found myself in the area.

The atmosphere was extremely loud to the point where you couldn't hold a conversation, and the crowd management seemed completely out of control. It felt overcrowded, disorganized, and honestly a bit uncomfortable trying to move around or even get service. Speaking of service, it was slow and inattentive. We had to flag someone down multiple times just to get basic things handled, and it didn't seem like anyone was really paying attention to our table. The drinks were overpriced for what you get, and the overall experience just didn't match the hype at all. For a place that markets itself as a go-to celebration spot, it missed the mark. I wouldn't come back or recommend it--there are way better places in Deep Ellum to celebrate without the hassle.

I visited Mexican Cactus Taco Bar expecting your typical strip mall taco joint with decent tacos…read moreand some TVs to watch a World Cup match, but WOW did I underestimate what I was in for. I knew from the second we walked in, based on the list of made-in-house horchatas and agua frescas, that we were going to be in for a good meal. The menu was refreshingly unique compared to your basic street taco style setup or the usual Tex-Mex mashup of inauthentic tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our group of 3 adults, plus my 7 year old niece, shared a bowl of guacamole, which was phenomenal and came mixed with sunflower seeds and topped with crumbled cotija, alongside house-made corn tortilla chips. We also split an elote cup, which was great. My wife got a classic horchata, which was deliciously sweet (but not overly so) with a nice slight punch of cinnamon. I went with water but will definitely try an agua fresca next time. I ordered two tacos, both on house-made flour tortillas (I like corn tortillas but prefer flour when made fresh). The Pollo Azteca, with marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, mango pico, and a drizzle of crema, was phenomenal, and had more flavor than most chicken tacos I've had before. The star of my meal, however, was the Al Pastor, with adobo marinated pork tenderloin, diced pineapple, onions, and cilantro, with a slice of lime to squeeze on top. This was hands down one of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. I was floored. I also tried my wife's Carne Asada tacos, which came topped with cilantro and onions, and a slice of lime, on their house made corn tortillas. The steak was incredibly flavorful, and the corn tortillas were tender without being chewy. We shared a side of rice and beans, which was good, but not the star of the show. The rice was your typical Mexican yellow rice, and the beans were more of a soupy whole-beans style, which reminded me of my Colombian mother-in-law's recipe. The staff makes four homemade salsas, ranging from mild to pretty spicy, and I loved all of them with the exception of the mild. My niece got the kids' cheese quesadilla, which was a simple melted Oaxaca cheese between a flour tortilla, served with rice, beans, and a little side of crema. The last thing I will rave about is the service. The staff was incredibly nice from the minute we walked in, pleasant to talk to when delivering our order and asking how everything was tasting, to the moment we bussed our tables and headed for the door. I cannot wait to come back again, and I hope they stay very busy until I'm able to do so, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!
