The area that is now known as Palm Beach used to be called Lake Worth. The name change is said to be a result of the shipwreck Providencia. The ship was sailing in January 1878 with a load of coconuts bound from Havana to Barcelona when it became stranded on a reef. Early settlers quickly gathered up and planted the non native coconuts that washed up in order to start a commercial coconut industry. Hence the name Palm Beach was born. Word spread of the area and in 1880 the first hotel, the Coconut Grove House opened. In 1894 Henry M. Flagler's Royal Poinciana Hotel opened and he brought the Florida East Coast Railroad in 1896 which increased people to the area. The town of Palm Beach was incorporated on April 17, 1911. The Palm Beach Historic Inn was built in 1923 by Harvey and Clark. It was designed in a Mediterranean Revival Architecture style that was popular during Florida's land boom years. The inn is a boutique hotel located in downtown Palm Beach FL across the street from town hall and very close to the Atlantic Ocean. All rooms are located on the second floor of the hotel and there isn't an elevator. The rooms were refreshed in 2000 with new paint and furniture. They also do not have a parking lot but provide street parking placards or there is a garage for $27 a day. Rooms run around $150 a night and you are within walking distance of the beach, shopping, and dining. Love the architecture and history of this inn. Nice to see a 100 years later they are still in business.

Hidden gem in Palm Beach Florida! Lots of included perks: unlimited snacks (chips, cookies, candies, yogurt) and drinks (waters, sodas, juice), beach chairs and towels. The town is quiet almost ghost-townish and the beach is walking distance. The rooms are nice but as other reviewers mentioned they are not soundproof. We were awoken early one morning to guests in the room above us going at it, headboards knocking and lots of grunting. That was awkward! You can also hear conversations in the hallway quite clearly. The rooms are very clean and have little knacks that set this inn apart from run of the mill hotels. The king sized bed and oversized pillow were luxurious! Their travel sized soap, body wash, and shampoos we're actually excellent quality. I love that they included makeup remover wipes AND black makeup towels specifically for washing away makeup. The "historic" aspect of this inn is sorely lacking though. The rooms have no real semblance of being vintage or historic, and the employees didn't seem friendly enough for me to engage them in conversation or else I would have asked about the history of the inn. Side note- my boyfriend checked us in while I was in the car, and when I finally entered the lobby the employee never acknowledged me- no eye contact, no greeting. For these reasons I'm taking away one star, but overall I think it's a great place to stay for a few days as you get a lot of bang for your buck!

    Free water bottles, TV, couch.

You quickly learn to get your cyberspace BS under control, unplug, and pay atention to every little detail, and most importantly, the people around you. When you are here, it is so important to just breathe and ground yourself! We have come here over 10 times over the past 9 years, and we always have a top-tier experience. Here is why this resort remains unmatched for us: The valet is incredibly efficient despite the large crowds. The front desk is always kind and accomodating. Truly, every single employee is impeccably trained. Walking through the property feels like being in the Titanic movie, absolutely grand and timeless. The restaurants and bars are excellent across the board. Our absolute favorite part of vacationing here is heading down to the beach, grabbing a couple of beach chairs and umbrellas, and spending the whole day there. We love getting food from the nearby pool restaurant and staying put for hours. One main difference between The Breakers and any other hotel is that they never force you out of your spot just because it is 6 PM. If the staff has to leave, they let you stay on the beach for as long as you want. While the beach itself is not the absolute best in Florida, the natural rock formation gives it a beautiful, unique touch that is incredibly refreshing for the view. They also offer water sports for the young and enthusiastic! The Flagler restaurant is fabulous, but I will leave that for a separate review later since it is currently undergoing a major renovation a may be a whole different universe once it reopens! If you want a true luxury escape where you can actually disconnect and be treated like royalty, this is it. We will keep coming back for years to come!

However, when we arrived and room choices were still a bit limited, the Colony made a wonderful and significant upgrade for us and we could not be more appreciative. From the time you're greeted by the bellmen, to the check-in process, the employees could not be more friendly and accomodating. The bartenders are long time employees, and very nice folks. The servers too are great. Management has done a fantastic job creating a welcoming atmosphere where one feels right at home. The restaurant, Swifty's, is excellent. Breakfast poolside is always nice. Early riser? Coffee and a choice of newspapers are alway waiting for you. Take it outside by the pool and have a quiet morning before starting the day. From the moment of arrival to departure, we were treated very well. The Ben is breathtakingly decorated with greenery and art design to mimic the appearance and beauty of what Palm Beach represents. At check in, Angelina provided us with complimentary spring water in beautifully designed water boxes and our wristband room keys. The complimentary Paloma Angelina presented was sinfully delicious. What a great way to start our stay. Our waterfront rooms faced the Palm Harbor Marina with views overlooking the harbor, Codes (stainless steel and glass sculptures), and a view of Palm Beach Island and the Intracoastal Waterway. In room amenities included thick plush towels, soft robes and slippers. Closets also included a safe, full size ironing board, iron, and a steamer. Two large umbrellas hung in the closet in case of rainy weather. The bar and refrigerator were stocked with alcohol, snacks, and more water. The beds are comfortable and featured sheets stitched with The Ben's name and logo. Hotel amenities included a rooftop pool, glass elevator, gym, and room service. Complimentary bikes and shuttle services are available. Bruno, a Circuit vehicle, provides rides exclusively for The Ben guests anywhere within a 2 mile radius of the hotel. There is also a Book Butler that can bring you a curated and rotated book delivered on a silver platter! Tatianna, at the Front Desk, answered questions and provided good breakfast recommendations. Kevin, Bell Services, was also helpful. He made sure I had all the information on how to schedule a ride with Bruno and that we had water boxes for our trip and activities we had planned for the day. Kevin also provided good recommendations for places to visit and things to do. I would not hesitate staying at the Ben next time I am in the West Palm Beach. I am so happy we "found" this hotel! As soon as we walked in, I was in love with this place. The front desk agents were friendly and helpful, and the lobby was spotless. When we got to our room, I was genuinely shocked at how clean it was. I'm very particular about hotels and like to double-check the cleanliness before settling in, but I could tell right away this place had been cleaned very well. It didn't take long for us to decide to stay here for the week. We enjoyed breakfast in the lobby every morning, and sat in the courtyard by the pool most evenings. The valets were amazing; we almost never had to wait for our car, and they remembered us by name. This was the first time I've had housekeeping come during a hotel stay. I usually just put up the Do Not Disturb sign, but I decided I wanted to really enjoy this vacation. Housekeeping did a remarkable job freshening up the room, and it felt like magic to come back to a clean room after being out all day! We will definitely stay here again next time we are in town.
