Was here for Mother's Day. As mentioned below by another, the word to use is GHASTLY. I was embarrassed that I brought my family there, i was really looking forward to surprising them with a wonderful brunch. Instead it was a glorified conference room. Some of the food was decent at the stations, but the majority of deserts were not good and the ordered food was gross for me - the fish was decent. Service was slow. Very expensive given the experience and would not recommend as I won't be back either. The only bright side I can mention was the musician - it was like listening to a playlist at home. Sitting on the South golf course at the Boulders Resort in Carefree is Palo Verde. It's a simply elegant yet casual restaurant serving up Southwestern inspired dishes for breakfast and dinner. Sit inside the rotunda style main room or put on the patio overlooking the course and pond. While my daughter sticks with pancakes, my son and I can't pass up a good order of biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately, we didn't try much of the menu as dad joined in as well with the same order this time. We all enjoyed the cheddar jalapeno biscuits topped with chorizo gravy. Jack went with his go-to spicy Bloody Mary, and I sipped on a bourbon and peach schnapps iced tea. It was a nice family breakfast in the desert, followed by visiting the pond below. The kids loved getting the turtles and koi to inch closer and closer. So take a beautiful Carefree drive through the Boulders Resort for a lovely meal. read more

I doubt that included the above but an option. arrived & staff had no knowledge of 2nd vegetarian option, fine, no worries. they definitely could've picked a better veggie dish. poblano pepper dish?! definitely not worth $108 which is what they charged anyway. also, asked for non-alcoholic wine..nope! very surprised they are not up with the times. overall, nice experience but not going there anytime soon. again the staff was GREAT & the golf cart drivers were a blessing since it's pretty complicated finding the restaurant let alone leaving at night. We had breakfast here one morning while staying at the overpriced hotel. Service was super friendly and attentive. Like all hotel restaurants this place is on the pricey side with entrees in the $25 range. My wife had two poached eggs which came with 4 slices of toast, meat (she got sausage) and breakfast potatoes-a ton of food and I got a toasted bagel (wonder bread style) with cream cheese. Stopped in for breakfast following a morning hike. The patio seats were filled, so we sat inside by a window -- still had a lovely view of the golf course and the stream/pond. Clean, pleasant restaurant -- nice smooth jazz playing, very relaxing. Service was quick and attentive. Had the Monte Cristo, Breakfast enchilada, with sides of chicken jalapeno sausage and mixed fruit. It was actually quite good, particularly the breakfast potatoes served with the Monte Cristo. Didn't care for the texture of the tortilla on the enchilada -- a little too mushy, but the sauce, pickled onions, and guacamole made it a tasty dish. We're local - live right down the street ~ Just 2 of us went to the bar for wine and an appetizer (slow service but whatever) Decided to go into the restaurant at 5:15 pm where the host asked if we had a reservation- we did not. He then said, you'll have to wait... no problem for us but there was only one other couple in the restaurant and a party of 3 on the patio. The host spoke so codescendingly when he told us that he prefers people who are not hotel guests to make a reservation. During our dinner we interacted with Jason, our server Sylvia, and Shai, the person that brought the bread to our table. They all were very friendly and professional. The bread was OK, our favorite was the jalapeño cheddar, but they also had fife, ciabbata. The odd thing is that the butter they brought with it was very hard. By the time it was nice to spread we were done with the bread, lol. I had the filet and hubby had the halibut. We both liked our food. It was beautifully presented, with very original ingredients, but also tasty. For breakfast, I had the green chilaquiles, and hubby had the breakfast burrito. My husband and I came here during Restaurant Week because of their unique menu. We loved driving up the winding drive to get to the restaurant - the hotel grounds are beautiful. The restaurant inside was beautiful as well, although it seemed outdated. When we arrived, the dining room was empty. When we left, about an hour later, it was packed. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. We asked several questions about the menu and our waiter was able to answer every question. For appetizers, I ordered the squash and smoked chili fritters and my husband ordered the corn and rock shrimp chowder. The fritters were amazing - they were a little spicy but they melted in my mouth. My husband loved his soup. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken - it came with tumbleweed dumplings and a simple sauce. The chicken itself was extremely tender and flavorful. Normally, I wouldn't order a chicken dish, but the waiter talked it up and was right on the money. I would order it again. My husband ordered the bison bistro steak. The steak wasn't anything special. My husband kept stealing bites of my chicken, since he thought it was much better! For dessert, I ordered the Cowboy S'mores. Oh. My. God. It was amazing. It was a dark chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, and toasted marshmallow in a mason jar. Then there was a cinnamon/graham cookie bar on the side for dipping. My husband ordered the huckleberry pie. It was huge and he was unable to finish it. Granted, I couldn't finish mine either, but I tried. It was that good. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was amazing. Esposa and I celebrated a late Valentine's Day dinner at Palo Verde at Boulders Resort & Spa, for their "Private Dining in Our Wine Room". We had the Wine Room to ourselves. From beginning to end, it was a spectacular evening. We enjoyed 5 amazing food courses each perfectly paired to a delicious wine. Opener: California sparkling wine (Mumm Prestige NV). - Course 1: Octopus. Brined in coak-soaked secret potion. Super tender. Very flavorful. OMG. BEST we've had ANYWHERE. Paired with a delicious Monterey rosé (Chloe 2016). - Course 2: Diver scallops with king crab and truffled risotto. WTF? Three of my wife's favorite things combined. High five! Paired with a crisp and bright French Chablis (William Fevre 2016), thankfully devoid of nasty oakiness; delicious. - Course 3: Thrice cooked (roast, smoke, sear) lamb ribs with red peppers and a creamy sauce. The meat truly (sorry millennials, but you've ruined the word "literally") fell off the bone. By this point in the meal, I had tears in my eyes. Paired with a silky smooth Paso Robles Grenache (Melée 2011). - Course 4: Akaushi steaks with Japanese mushrooms on a lovely starch base. The meat was perfectly cooked and no knife was necessary! Paired with an Argentinian blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Bonarda (no I'd not heard of the latter before, either). It was full bodied with solid but balanced tannins (Renacer Enamore 2014) - Course 5: A big ball of chocolate sin. 'nuf said. Paired with a lovely ruby port. With each course, the chef hand-delivered a beautifully-plated dish to us and explained the food and preparation. The sommelier then followed with a description of the wine and how it paired with the food. This trio was a well-oiled machine that pulled off a perfect evening for us. First off the atmosphere is absolutely breath taking and the waiter, while he appeared to have way too many tables, made sure to be very attentive to our large party. Atmosphere - serving as the main dining room for The Boulders Resort, the restaurant is relatively smaller than I expected. First impressions are a bit underwhelming. Although the room is bright and tables are spaced apart nicely, the simplicity the furniture and the rooms design do not compliment the western elegance of the Resort. There is seating on an outside patio with furniture that is even more basic and the view is just OK. Service - my wife and I had both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. These two experiences could not have been more different from one another. The only thing they had in common was that in both instances we were one of a few people dining at those times. One would think that we would not want for attention from our server. However in the case of breakfast, we barely ever saw our server and had to ask another staff member for assistance. Thankfully, service during our dinner could not have been better. Our server (I feel terrible that I can not recall her name) was excellent. We were celebrating my birthday with a private dinner in the Wine Room and our server was friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The chef also stopped in to introduce himself and ask if we were enjoying dinner. Food - we enjoyed a pre-selected 5 course meal that was excellent. We started with queso chorizo and chips that was amazing! A salad and a crab cake followed, which were very good. Finally we had a fillet mignon that was excellent. Dessert was very good also. The dinner included a wine pairing, which was also excellent. What an amazing dinner at Palo Verde located within the main lodge at the Boulders. I reserved the wine room for my wife and I to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The restaurant was not busy so we basically had the entire place all to ourselves. We started with the gnocchi and charred octopus plates both were absolutely delicious, the sauce around the gnocchi and crispiness of the octopus were just perfect. For the main course I had the special a surf and turf, medium rare filet with a crispy skin sea bass. My wife had the handmade rock crab pasta which had a small spicy kick but was so good I ate my plate and half of hers. For dessert the staff honored us for our 1 year with a chocolate caved in mousse surrounded by small brownies. The food, service and overall atmosphere were just top notch, anyone that rates this establishment less than 5 stars has no idea what good food and service is about at Resort. We were guests at the hotel and had breakfast one day and then a special dinner in the wine room another day. Breakfast-all the shady spots were taken outside so we sat inside by the window which was nice. Service was quick. I had the chicken and waffles and loved them. Three small waffles with a piece of chicken on top of each, drizzled with a sauce that was perfect. Couldn't have picked a better breakfast. Dinner in the wine room-It was my husband's birthday and I surprised him with the trip and this dinner. I had spoken to the Chef and he designed a 5 course menu with wine pairings at what I thought was a reasonable price. Our server was wonderful and they gave us plenty of time between each course to enjoy the food. They had prepared a written menu, so we knew exactly what we were getting. The chips and queso were a great appetizer and the baby lettuce salad was so fresh and tender. The crab cake with the aioli and the beef tenderloin were both very good. The menu said asparagus, which we love, but it came with brussel sprouts by mistake, but they quickly grilled some asparagus which was wonderful. Each course was paired with a wine, starting with a rose, then a Sauvignon blanc, a Chardonnay, and then a Shiraz. The Chef stopped by and chatted for a bit which was nice. Dessert was a tropical sphere, which was a chocolate ball filled with mango and coconut. Dessert looked like a PIckleball and since we are avid players, it was even more special. This was paired with a champagne. All in all, our dining experiences were perfect. read more

The cappuccino was very tiny for the size of the glass. The chocolate ball was really good and the presentation was really cool as well. We had dinner here one evening while staying at the resort and had no complaints. I had the half ceasar as an appetizer wich was to my liking though i have had better in the past. As an entree i had the doubleglazed baconwrapped meatloaf with mashed potatoes and redwine/mushroom sauce. This was a really delicious meatloaf with soft and creamy mash and tasty sauce. I would definatly have this again if i ever go back. The halfportion of coconut cake was about a fullsize for me as a scandinavian but a nice end to the meal. We came here to eat twice for breakfast during our stay since we received some dining credits for being a Hilton Diamond member at this resort. While the wait staff are all super sweet, expect super, super slow service. It was nearly impossible to find our waitress when we needed something. Maybe it's because everyone is on vacation and on one is in a hurry, but me, being used to a busy California lifestyle and a mom with impatient kids, it felt like torture trying to wait for something to come by so I could ask for something. Also, make sure you look at your bill carefully, because every day, they tried to overcharge us. The first day, they charged us $7 for the kid's menu item, when the kid's menu they gave us clearly stated $6. We pointed it out and the waitress said something about them changing the price, but she was able to take that extra charge off. The next morning, they charged me $16 for my $12 avocado toast, $7 for the kid's menu item again, and another $3.50 for the kid's milk that is supposed to come with the kid's menu item. We were given a breakfast voucher for some issues we had with our first room. Honestly, we we had paid for this meal, the stars would be less. The hostess was sweet. The waitress took forever to greet us. She didn't write down our order (which was not complicated, it was just my husband, baby & me) but when she walked away from taking our order, my husband said "the order will be messed up." We ordered blue corn waffles, lox and bagel, 1 egg & bacon. Sure enough, 10 minutes later the waitress came back to confirm our order, which indeed she got confused. The voucher said we get a free drink & coffee, she never asked what we wanted. She brought our food (which was correct) & then immediately after she brought the check & never came back again. No refills for water or ice tea. Never checked to see if we were ok. Nothing. The food was fine, over priced. Like I said before, if we had paid for our meal, I'd give this place a lower rating. Went to Palo Verde for the first time with some friends visiting from Chicago. We were looking for a new place and based on the menu we decided to give it a try. The overall ambiance is lacking. The artwork on the walls were some photos for sale of random places which seemed odd. Also, the vibe was pretty nonexistent as there were very few tables occupied. Our server gave insights on the menu which we appreciated her honesty. However she didn't write down our order so we didn't get the octopus appetizer which we requested based on her recommendations. The scallops and filet were fine but overpriced for what we received. Three scallops seem pretty skimpy for the price. Service was slow. We had mentioned we needed to leave at a certain time and it took over an hour from the time we sat down to getting our entree and we were not overly slow in ordering. We didn't even mention the starter not coming because we needed to leave but I am nonot a fan of servers who think they can remember everything. I will chose to take my $ somewhere else as the value definitely isn't here. read more

Food was terrible but the service was nice. Two of us ordered halibut and one dish came out as such but the other was a completely different fish. We questioned the restaurant and they insisted the fish was the same. Seriously we have better taste than that. Also, we ordered the tenderloin, for 44$ and it tasted terrible -- no flavor!! We brought all this to the managers attention. He was very receptive and graceful. While he did not comp our entire meal he did take care of most of the bill. A classy spot would have comped the entire bill for such a bad experience. Bottom line, I would NEVER eat here again or recommend to anyone. If you're hungry, go elsewhere. The squash tortellini was served with minced, raw onion and was undersalted. The chicken thigh was served with the un-rendered fat under the skin. The breast of the chicken was served with crispy skin, but it lacked seasoning. Don't serve flabby skin, just get rid of it. I left a review for this restaurant which somehow got "lost ". I am putting this for the Second time to make sure everyone knows how poor this restaurant is. I went to this restaurant on Christmas Day 2021. The reservations were made two weeks in advance with the pre-fixed price being $75. When we arrived the price had been changed to $97. There was no explanation nor was there any attempt to give value for the difference in price . So the price was changed no attempt to compensate the customer for the difference and then no opportunity to be able To change our table from outside to inside. Lastly the deal when it arrived had included a tip of 20% already established for a party of two. When the bill had been charged to my dining partner and myself at 50% for each my bill was $20 more than my dining partner. This was the final straw the food was OK nothing to write home about the price was exorbitant the evening was dark and the venue was rainy because we were outside. Yes the bill was corrected which is about the best thing I can say. I would not recommend this restaurant under any circumstances. read more
