Always a favorite, my daughter and I decided this was the place for her to visit. ( she lives in CA) after many other visits ,for the first time I decided to order the pasta puttanesca. Delicious sauce with olives and artichokes and just a little heat. It was really tasty. My daughter ordered the rigatoni. A tasty mix of finely ground beef and pork BUT dry in the mouth and missing Louis wonderful Italian flavors. Not an appetizing presentation... just dry and "plain". Perhaps this is the correct Italian presentation for this dish,as Uncle Louis never fails to give their very best food, served fresh and hot! Personal preference may be what felt at odds here. Take home for my housebound husband was very much enjoyed. Meatballs are great and the sausage is the best in town. Marinara sauce so good you can drink it! The entire staff is wonderful. I have been to Uncle Louie's for dinner 6 times this year. I had introduced 3 different couples to the place during those visits. Last Wednesday I went with a friend to sit at the bar for happy hour. We got there when they opened at 4 p.m. and were there for about 2 hours. We sat at the far end of the bar. Each of us had 2 drinks and we shared 2 appetizers. We were not loud or drunk, merely having a regular conversation. When my friend had at least a third of a glass of wine left, the bartender came over and said, "Are you ladies going to order any more drinks or food?" We said, "No we are good." and she replied, "Ok can you please finish up your drink and leave because we have customers waiting." I worked in the restaurant industry for 20 plus years and would NEVER say this to any guest. It wasn't like we came in and ordered two diet cokes and sat. Our bill was $83 and my friend hadn't finished her wine. She told the owner how rude it was and we got the feeling the owner was behind it. My friend told the tactless bartender that this was the rudest way she had ever been treated in a restaurant and that she shouldn't have said that. We will never return and I will tell everyone I know about this rude and horrible experience. read more

While I really enjoyed Uncle Louie I was surprised that in 2025, this place still does not have vegan cheese for a pizza. Despite more and more people having lactose issues and more folks going plant-based, this should be a no Brainer. We opened up with the clams. Since we got there early, it being happy hour, the dish was 12 bucks. I enjoyed the clams quite a bit. I didn't find one bad one in the lot. Bad is a closed one or barely open. I was able to get a seafood fork to remove the meat let it lay in the sauce before diving in. We shared a small pizza. Since vegan cheese wasn't doable we went with red sauce with mushrooms. Everything was cooked to perfection. Definitely will be coming back. read more

We decided we wanted Italian this week and I am always up for trying somewhere we haven't previously been. I can't recall how I heard of Uncle Louie's, but I am always searching out restaurants around the valley. Because they have Happy Hour daily, we decided to chose one Bruschetta option and one of the small plates options. Both were very good. I could have used a little more fig jam on the bruschetta, but the bread was the perfect cook. Often it's far too hard, but this was perfect. The calamari was delicious! Not even breaded, but lightly dusted with seasoning and just so much better than a heavy breading. Highly recommend! For entrees, my husband went with the veal Marsala which is his favorite Italian dish. He enjoyed it. Not sure it was the best he's ever had, but definitely not even close to the worst. I had the rigatoni Bolognese, which they state in the menu is the "best in Phoenix". I'm not sure about that. It was good, but nothing made it outstanding. I also added 2 meatballs which were really good, and I am admittedly pretty picky about meatballs. We did also get dessert to-go. Tiramisu for me, which is now 2 nights of dessert because I couldn't finish it, and cheesecake for him which he finished the first night. Overall a nice place with good food. Not fancy and not very big. We tend to eat early so had no trouble getting a table. They open at 4 and we were there shortly after. No fresh grated Parm, but there is a shaker of cheese and red paper flakes in the table. Overall, food and service were very good. We wouldn't shy away from going back again. read more

This restaurant is worth the drive if you live far from North Scottsdale. We had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant. Our server Ally was amazing always attentive and had a smile on her face the whole time. Both owners came to our table and had a great conversation with us, the owner even recommended a great dish which I ordered Sea-bass and boy it was perfection. The ambiance is great overall we had an amazing experience at this restaurant and we will be back. All 4 of us really enjoyed our entrees an including our desserts. Based on viewing the menu in advance, I was really excited to try this place. But unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I think it's way overpriced, especially for amount of food you get. Perhaps if the portions were huge the price could be justified. I ordered one drink (wine), and several food items, expecting to take a lot of food home. I had minestrone soup $10, which was tasty served very hot which was great. hen the roasted vegetable platter appetizer ($21) which included one eggplant rollatini (a very thin slice of eggplant rolled around some cheese with tomato sauce on top), a few slices of summer squash, perhaps 2-3 asparagus spears, a roasted Roma tomato cut in half, a couple small marinated onions, 2 pieces of artichoke heart, a few olives. I don't recall if I had any mushrooms or not, if so there might have been one. Not worth $21. Then for my main course, a salad Nicoise which included a pile of mixed spring greens, 1/2 of an egg cut into 3 pieces, two 1/4" slices of potato cut in half, and maybe half of a small tomato cut into wedges. No green beans which it was supposed to have. The seared tuna was good and an acceptable amount. (See attached picture. I had eaten one piece of potato and cut up one wedge of tomato before taking the picture.) I had expected a lot more egg, potato, tomato and at least some green beans. They did serve bread, but it was nothing special. I arrived early, around 5pm and the service was ok at first (drink, soup, appetizer.) But then it took forever to get my main salad. I was there 2 hours! The waiter takes the order but "runners" to deliver the food not the waiter, and they aren't going to notice if the food looks right or not or if something is missing (like the green beans). The ambience wasn't bad. But I did notice that the tables were bare, with no tablecloths or placemats, which, again, for the price point would have been appropriate. While I'm eating I don't like placing my silverware on the bare table, and it's sometimes it's hard to keep them piled on the plate during the meal. No candles or little lamps on the table, so it was quite dark where I was sitting (near the kitchen). Including tip, I spent $90 on a dinner. Way more than I usually spend on dinner for myself particularly in a restaurant like this. To me the food was good but overpriced. I took home a little bit, but really could have eaten it all since I hadn't eaten all day. (Salad greens and think sliced roasted vegetables aren't that filling! ) There were other things on the menu I was interested in trying, but I don't think I'll go back. read more

We've been to Uncle Louie in the past as it is convenient, nearby and a relatively good value for one's money. One of my biggest gripes is being rushed on food service. Unfortunately that was what we were subjected to at our last visit. Our soup and salads arrived w/o any problems as the customer should expect. Lo and behold half way through our "first courses" someone drops off our entrees. The table has bread, butter, bread dishes, water & cocktails already on it. Where does the manager expect the servers to put the food? How about in the 2 empty chairs at our table? Did I mention we were still eating our soup and salad? read more

Ordered Soup of Day! Asked for a cup of soup and an appetizer. Bowl of soup arrived and asked waitress is this a cup? Yes! Ordered Key Lime Pie for dessert. Sliver of a pie for 12$. Marie the owner asks if meal was ok and I said Nice. Had two complaints. She wanted to know what they were? First a cup of soup should be available? Second a sliver of key lime pie for 12 dollars is outrageous. She explained she will look into it. Then started explaining costs and overhead to me. This is a tough review to write. It's also likely a tough review to read, because you are thinking about food, and you definitely don't want to think about "bathroom issues" as you're looking for a restaurant to try. I hope it's not this one. We've lived around the corner from this place for six or seven years, and tried it for the first time tonight. The only "pro's" I can think of is that the two glasses of wine were reasonably good, one red and one white. Our server at the bar was a nice gal, as well. But that's as far as I can go. The experience my wife had using their Ladies' Room was, let's say, "discouraging" to say the least. There was a line (it's a one-seater) and she waited for a few minutes outside. When the woman ahead of her came out, it was an employee. That person left the most disgusting bathroom mess . . . she didn't flush, she likely didn't wash hands, and she avoided eye contact with the ladies in line when she came out. She had the employee outfit on, which in this case is all black. She was very short, and since we didn't see her on the serving staff, it's unfortunate to think of her in the kitchen preparing our meal. Ugh. Someone like that just was raised in a barn somewhere, and she used those same filthy hands to prepare our bruschetta. The bruschetta itself was so sub-marginal. The prosciutto was so thin, just one layer across a piece of very hard, crunchy toast. There was supposed to be a "fig jam." There was literally no taste of jam or fig on the appetizer, avoid this one at all costs. The "mascarpone" was an extremely thin spread only 50% of the bread -- less than you'd put of butter on your toast in the morning. The other bruschetta faired a bit better. It was the same lousy piece of HARD bread, however, with a load of chopped and marinated tomato on top. I'd give that a 2 out of 5, an upgrade from the rest of the experience. My thoughts are that Uncle Louie's does not deserve its location in the heart of this affluent part of North Scottsdale. Someone else needs to get a place into this neighborhood so that this place can go where it needs to go . . . into the toilet, so to speak. Maybe, just maybe, the new "Patricia's Pizza" a mile up the road till accomplish that. We came here on a Sunday and the restaurant was pretty full, as was the bar. We took this as a good sign food wise and despite being visibly busy we were sat immediately. We sat outside which was pleasant- the heaters worked great. I forgot to take pictures of our food :( but we shared a Greek salad- it was huge and fresh. We also got the lasagna, garlic bread with marinara sauce, and the halibut special. All entrees come with either veggies or a pasta of your choosing so it's a neat way to try one of their pastas. The halibut was phenomenal and it was a pretty big piece of fish. We opted for pasta with the bolognese sauce as the side - it was great. The lasagna was different but really good! We got a bottle of the Tyler wine- my boyfriend is not a wine person but he enjoyed it! Service was top notch. Hannah was super friendly and knowledgeable. We had one minor hiccup which was handled with a quickness by the manager, Dave. He definitely adds to the familial vibe of the restaurant. Wow! This place is amazing. We actually have been going once a week for a couple mos now, it's been our new favorite. We love the chicken piccata and chicken Marsala, the fish is always fresh, we have tried the pizza and salads. All are amazing. The service is awesome it's like living in a small town, the staff always makes us feel like they know us. And a special shout out to Ally, thanks for always being so kind and friendly. The owner is always there greeting her guests and making you feel welcome. Also, the location is easy to get to and parking is great. Good ambiance for a small group event, date night, family night. Our book club went to Uncle Louie's for dinner. The atmosphere was lively! It was wonderful to walk in and smell the Italian spices while hearing Frank Sinatra singing in the background. Our food was good. We had spaghetti, pizza, beet salad and eggplant dishes! Our waiter was wonderful! He was attentive, professional with a nice sense of humor. Ordered a takeout pizza. Sanitizer is outside and management requests you use it before entering. There are acrylic dividers at the counter and sit down booths. Staff are masks, customers were not except those entering and exiting. We decided on half a Spicy Mediterranean (all veggie) and Margarita with roasted garlic on the other half. The Spicy Mediterranean has artichoke hearts banana peppers, kalamata olives, tomatoes and feta cheese on a red sauce. Yummy! Hubby enjoyed his half too. read more
