Prime rib GET IT!!
Amber G.

I was totally scared to eat here because the reviews are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Literally. We came anyways Nice patio with heated lamps and DOG friendly. Got the prime rib sandwich and OMG sooooo good. We visit THE KEG chain a lot and we felt the prime rib was comparable. The French fries 10/10 the ranch is 9/10 I was not crazy at all with the brisket tacos just because it did not come with lots of meat, there could have been more on the taco. The chips with the creamed corn is FREAKING AMAZING!!!!! Dude I did not even want to eat here cause of the reviews, but I ended up super happy. I'll be back

We had the nachos! They were amazing :-) Attentive Service! The patrons, bar, Soccer Match on TV, and the entire place made us want to stay and hang out -- total fun place to eat, drink, and be merry :-)

Neat spot with some great food and drinks. Great outdoor patio to hangout at during sunset!

This is a very interesting place. Fun decorations and signs. Supposed to be all about the fried chicken. Well maybe we had too high of expectations. It was just okay. Got the family share. The chicken was dry and nothing special the cornbread was also dry. Tried using honey to make it more interesting. The tots were fine but hard to mess those up. I did like my fun drink.

The Horny Toad was close by so I grabbed some Fried Chicken to go. Phenomenal Fried Chicken. Would definitely return. The coleslaw was also delicious

Honestly this was my 1st time here and it wasn't all that great, cool place though it would look like a cool hangout spot this being my birthday lunch well I couldn't have been more disappointed It should have tipped me off that it's a BBQ place and I didn't smell barbecue or if anything was being smoked.. well we got the meal for 2 so we got a little of everything, well like I said the non smell of something being smoked or BBQ was not in the air.. the brisket tastes like plastic the pulled pork was cold the ribs taste like day old left overs, serve was ok there was one girl a server who was annoying and loud, thinking it was cute but it wasn't, I've drove all the way from Tempe to try this spot out and it didn't live up to the hype

Came in from far far away on an Easter Day to meet up with some family , timing was pretty challenging to find a spot open but we came across the Horny Toad after 2 other attempts. As vegetarians we try to stick with what we know, to much surprise they had options for us and with having 20 minutes until the kitchen closes, they services us with kindness. The place has plenty of outdoor setting on its huge porch looking out into the town. They had live music that was amazing as well. There is a cute country western side bar, always open for happy hour. We decided to dine in to get out of the sun. I totally enjoyed the remarkable comments on the T-shirts and other items for sale. The inside was taken right out of a western movie scene. I server was fantastic. She was kind and helpful. The food portions are huge! Like Texas size. We got the nachos, veggie burger with slaw, and mushroom fajitas. The fajitas were seasoned perfectly. Only wished they came with a side of beans to add a bit of protein. The cocktails were sweet and cold. They never asked us to leave as we over stayed our welcome because we were having a nice conversation. We appreciated the hospitality on a holiday.

The Horny Toad in Creek Cave was recommended by a local friend for fried chicken and fish (cod) & chips. We ordered the whole fried chicken with mash potatoes. Came with 8 prices of chicken and they were freshly fried and moist. Not season well for my taste but my friends liked it. We also added home made sides of Honey Butter Corn bread and cheesy grits. All were delicious. We thought we were full but after talking to our sever, she strongly suggested their house made Strawberry Shortcake-OMG, the best I have had in a very long time. A must at this place if you come here. Creek Cave is a small and cute town so worth the drive from Scottsdale/Phoenix for a day trip along with a delicious meal. Will certainly come again when we're are back in Scottsdale and next time to try the cod fish and chips.

It was like a "sports bar vibe stuffed into a Texas Roadhouse restaurant, but no worries." From the dark inside with sunlight coming through the stained glass windows, I was reminded of roadhouse restaurants from years past ( minus the black-and-white tv's and the smoking indoors). But the vibe matched the food, which was delicious. Big portions with leftover take-home appeal...you knew what you were eating the following day. Even better, because then the food was allowed to marinate inside the fridge for a nominal eating experience! We ordered Nachos, fried zucchini, 1/2 pound brisket, cornbread, taco salad, you the drill. No disappoints here. Our server Satie was nice and kept our beverages full without asking for refills. While everything was served way warmer than lukewarm, the fried zucchini was downright steaming. Seating? We sat inside, while it was also available on the patio. A cool looking bar area as well as other rooms memorbila along the walls to look at. Worth it's weight in gold for a good dining experience!

Dessert is awesome!! Strawberry shortcake(unfortunately with frozen strawberries) is very good with excellent cake, also the apple crumble is awesome with large pieces of apple and perfect spices. We sat outside on the patio and watched the sunset.. service was good- a large party showed up just before us.

Ask the Community - The Horny Toad

How are the burgers cooked? Wood fueled chargrilled, gas fueled chargrilled, fried on flattop, steamed, etc...

Does anyone know if they have gluten free options?

Visiting this weekend,... Is this just takout or is there indoor/outdoor patio dining as well?

Last weekend we drove by and the outdoor patio was packed, as were most restaurants along the main strip. Just looked at their website. Says they are now back to full service!

I say "mildly suprised" because once we walked up to the actual coffee house we heard the live music on the large back patio. One of our absolutely favorite local artist, Aaron Howard was performing, and he definitely brings in a crowd. It was busy, as I mentioned, but not too crowded, and we found a good table towards the back. As it was the begging of the hot weather this spring, we were very grateful for the generous-sized table umbrellas. But first, we went inside the Bodega to order a Beer and a snack. They have a great selection of Beer and wine! And since we were still 2 hours or so away from dinner, we decided to grab a veggie & cheese board, which had a nice variety of cruditè and humas. It was very satisfying for 2 adults. We spent.a total of about 2 hours there and left there knowing we would be coming back to Janey's. Side note: For those of you who need accessibility, I myself am on an electric scooter for ambulating. The parking lot is dirt and only has a couple of handicap parking spots. But no space is more than approximately 150 ft from the entrance to Janey's. Once you get to the building, it is very easy to get in and out of the main bodega, with wide, level doorways. The doors were propped open when we visited. I did not utilize the restroom on this visit.

However, what' will keep us from going back is the no-personality service. Been there twice in the afternoon and both times the service was stoic. For us friendly service tops everything. The staff here are seriously knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Our bartender/guide was awesome - took the time to explain the whole distillation process, answered all our random questions, and really made the tasting feel personal without being pushy. Great energy all around! Their Carefree Bourbon is legit outstanding - smooth, rich with nice depth, warm finish that isn't too harsh. Definitely one of the best local bourbons I've tried in AZ. But wow, the Chakra Vodka lineup stole the show for me. All the infused flavors are so creative and well-balanced. My absolute favorite was the Third Eye - Grapefruit & Lavender. That bright citrus pop from the grapefruit mixed with the soft, floral lavender is pure magic - refreshing, elegant, and dangerously easy to sip. I could drink it all day (and almost did ). We also ordered one of their charcuterie boards to go with the tasting, and oh man - it was delicious! Beautifully arranged with a great selection of cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruit, nuts, and some local honey and crackers. Everything paired so perfectly with the spirits - the board elevated the whole experience and made it feel like a proper little afternoon treat. Highly recommend getting one (or sharing one) while you sip! Highly recommend the tasting flight - great value and you get to try everything. We'll definitely be back next time we're up in Cave Creek. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in!

The service was pretty good but it seemed like they catered to their local regulars over just visitors, but that's understandable. We all tried the flights. My friend and my son tried to different flavored vodkas and the two varieties of bourbon while I chose to try four different flavors of vodka because I don't really care for bourbon. My favorite flavor of the vodka was the coconut lychee. Very delicious My husband just got a Coca Cola and my daughter tried a mocktail that tasted just like a melted dreamsicle Overall I would say it was a nice experience

My wife and I tried Hansen's Barbecue today and walked away with mixed feelings…read more The meat itself was exceptionally tender and juicy, especially the brisket and pulled pork -- clearly cooked well. Unfortunately, both were almost completely devoid of smoke or seasoning, which is kind of a big deal at a barbecue joint. No smoke ring flavor, no salt -- you'll want to bring your own. Oddly, the chicken did have a nice smoky profile, which made the beef even more confusing. On the plus side, the barbecue beans were excellent and the potato salad was solid, easily the highlights of the sides. A couple of things really pulled the experience down. First, the live music felt wildly out of place. Instead of something that fit a barbecue crowd, it was a solo acoustic, Lilith Fair-style performance -- not exactly what you expect in a room full of 55+ Harley riders. It didn't add atmosphere; it distracted from it. Second, the service was painfully slow, which is hard to justify when everything is already cooked and just needs to be plated. Lastly, they offer an Outlaw Light Beer, which I can honestly say ranks among the worst beers I've ever tasted -- and I'm not picky. Bottom line: the barbecue is technically well-cooked but severely lacking in flavor. Because tenderness counts for something, I'm landing at 3 out of 5 stars, but there's a lot of missed potential here.

The presentation alone makes it a must-try, and the cigar scent lingers long after the drink is done. My favorite drink of the night was the Money Trees, which was like a sweet bourbon with bananas foster. We also tried the Lil Demon, which includes a chai foam that's very unique. The third highlight for me was a Chocolate Martini, which wasn't on the menu but was the first I've ever had to not include Bailey's. So good! I should also mention that the bartender was kind enough to make the chocolate martini, even though we could tell it isn't his favorite drink to make. We also tried the chocolate lave cake and the deep fried cornbread. The cake was decadent and true to what you'd expect.
