I've spent a bunch of time in the area in the other seasons but seeing it spring was new for me. So was lunch at Firewater. I enjoyed both. As you might think from the name, Firewater is all about the drinks. Not only do they look beautiful but they punch above their weight in a tourist mecca. My Baby Got Daq was so much better than one would imagine for a cocktail on tap. Served in a coupe, this traditional daiquiri was made with anjeo rum, which gave it a gorgeous brown color. The simple (traditional with a twist -- pineapple!) recipe (lime and sugar) allowed all the ingredients to sing and you would be hard-pressed to tell that it came from a tap, rather than a bartender's careful hand. Drink in hand, the food menu acquitted itself just as nicely. My large (Southern) party made short work of the deviled egg appetizer. Likewise, my brisket sandwich (on gluten-free bread and served with a side of grits) was filling, smoky (with a crunchy bark) and deeply-flavorful.My group took advantage of the nice weather and are outside, enjoying the lovely water views and pleasant service. With a population the size of a New England liberal arts college, odds are if you're patronizing Firewater you're not a local. That's fine. Tourist cities need tourist dollars. Spend yours here. While in Deep Creek, this will become a trusted lunch destination. I'm just surprised I 'discovered' it so late after multiple trips.

The servers and front of house workers are pleasant and eager to help. The restaurant is rather small with very little seating and a small bar. I had a group of 7 for our Supper Club and they took us shortly after opening so that they could better serve us. Our waitress was super helpful with suggestions and answered any questions that we had about the menu. She was helpful and accommodating, not to mention patient with all of our questions! We indulged in multiple appetizers, different entrées, and even dessert. Here's my review of each part of the meal: Smoked Chicken Pierogies: These pierogies were different and delicious. They were super flavorful, but they were unique and worthy of trying! Foccacia: I cannot say enough good things about their foccacia. It was perfectly soft and plump and included 3 unique dipping sauces that blew me away: red pepperonata, whipped ricotta pepper honey, and pomegranate molasses. I couldn't believe how good all of it tasted! Mustard Glazed Salmon: This dish came with butternut squash hummus & grains. The salmon was cooked perfectly and flavored well with the mustard. I didn't love the grains and the hummus was underwhelming, but it was a unique dish. Blackberry & Pumpkin Crepes: These Crepes were flavorful and delicious. The pumpkin was not overly spiced up so this was a perfect light dessert to end our meal. The blackberry Crepes weren't as flavorful but delicious and nice to try. Other people in my group had the fall lasagna, diver scallops, pub burger, and bolognese, and all dishes got rave reviews! I also had a Pumpkin Espresso Martini. The flavor was great. I was disappointed in the overly salted rim and the lack of espresso beans on top, but I'd drink it again because it was delicious overall. This place was a welcomed surprise and the flavor combinations were unique and different. This place is definitely something to talk about!

I was looking for a nice bar for a cocktail and appetizer by myself, and I found the Anvil and Ax (inside the Hotel Morgan) menu via google and decided to stop. Street parking is available all around. The doorman was so nice! There were several couples at the bar, so I sat at one of the tables near the bar. It took a while for the bartender to come over to me and give me a menu. I ordered the french martini and asked if there was a food menu available. She said they didn't serve food until later in the day, even though the online menu said otherwise. My martini was great. Service was subpar. She set my martini on the edge of the bar and I had to go up and get it- no big deal, I just thought it was odd since they weren't busy. The bartender never came back over to me; I went up to the bar to close out and pay my bill like 15 minutes after I finished my drink. There are certainly some kinks to work out, especially with service, but this place has potential to be very nice!

What more could you ask for? I have been here with my husband for a casual night out and we loved relaxing on the large lounging sofa while enjoying our food and drinks. I also visited for a girls night out and this place is really perfect for both. It's a cocktail bar with a "secret" entrance from the boutique clothing store in the store front and it gives you a fun, "speakeasy" vibe. It also has a regular entrance from the side street as well. The cocktails were delicious and have been switched out since it opened to now fit the spooky/fall season. They seem to have a smaller beer/wine offering than a larger establishment would have but this IS a cocktail bar so you definitely want to try one (or two) of those. The food is delicious just know it's more of a hors d'oeuvre, snacking type menu, not a full dinner menu. Flatbreads, crostinis, dips with your choice of bread/chips and desserts are all available and the portions leave you feeling satisfied. Wednesday nights they have live musicians in-house and they also do special events like Mixology Mondays so check their socials if you're interested in their upcoming events. Maybe you'll catch me there too!

This time I was passing by at dinner time so checked it out. It was Trivia Night so I opted for outside at one of the small 3 patio tables. The street has an outdoor dining vibe with two other restaurants also with outdoor seating. You put in your order at the bar (at least this Wednesday night) with a welcoming bartender on easy check list for sushi and ramen. I was stopping on the late side and those finishing their meals were clearly enjoying themselves. Many knew each other across tables as lots of stopping by for chats among friends. The pork belly in the ramen was definitely my jam as it had a crunchy top with easy to come apart pieces. Definitely the highlight. Not nearly as big a fan of the Asian greens which fell into almost a paste, the mushrooms not looking like they were fresh (to be fair there is a shiitake option I missed), and the smoked eggplant a little too chewy. And I took a flyer on the "special broth" without asking what it was so that is on me. But the really dark perhaps cinnamon infused (don't hold me to it) version was not something for me. The noodles were ample but not plentiful and were legit. So I think I'd opt for Nori instead of Asian greens next time and go with more traditional toppings. But definitely endorse the pork belly. I tried a smoked eggplant sushi role as something new. Just fine, I've tried it but I'll try another combo they have next time. And I know the economics are tough these days and specialty roles are routinely low teens in cost, but I'd suggest a two tier pricing scheme rather than $13.00 for one with a single ingredient and just 6 rather than normally 8 for specialty rolls. Glad I stopped and I will again to try some of the other fare. Just may be a little more traditional in my choices next time.

During our visit along the Laurel Highlands Pour Tour, we were greeted by an atmosphere that was simply extraordinary. Opting for a flight, I found myself particularly drawn to their stout--an unexpected but delightful turn of events as I've recently developed a fondness for them. Adding to the ambiance, a small musical act entertained patrons in another area, while the presence of food trucks hinted at the culinary delights on offer. The beer itself was exceptional, complemented by impeccable service. Eager to take home a memento of our visit, I inquired about purchasing a t-shirt. The staff kindly provided access to the upstairs store room where I secured the last 3XL shirt available, along with some stickers for both the pour tour and my laptop. Overall, it was a fantastic stop characterized by friendly service, outstanding beer, and an atmosphere that left a lasting impression. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
