Stopped in for lunch on a road trip to Strum (from Minneapolis to see where my grandmother was born). This is a spot way off the beaten path but cozy and friendly and a sign promising grandmas home cooking. The menu has a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers to choose from for lunch. My sister ordered a burger and I ordered the Rodeo burger (burger with cheese, BBQ sauce, and an onion ring). Sandwiches come with a choice of fries or soup. This place is old school. The waitress automatically assumes you want coffee when she stops with the menu. They still write the orders on the little green pads and clip them on a wheel at the window and the cook dings a little bell when the food is ready. Note: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday they close at 3 pm. We were there around mid day so it took a bit to get the food but we enjoyed the taste and quality. The tables are mostly filled with locals so they must be doing something right. Prices are reasonable and service was good. Pay at the cash register at the counter.

Friendly staff, ma and pa type food. Cute atmosphere. Specials vary daily. Breakfasts are really good and coffee just keeps on coming.

The corn beef frappe was good so was the Monte Cristo but they were just good not great. Both had melted cheddar - not a fan. The pie was much better. My family really liked it. Death by chocolate it's quite intense. You have a chocolate crust, chocolate filling with a ton of whipped cream and you can never have enough whipped cream. At first glance it's a diner with a pie case but check the menu for some unlikely finds. The Wisconsin Reuben was delicious, loaded with thick corned beef and lots of butter and sauerkraut so you didn't even need the thousand island. I wasn't sure how a Reuben would be without rye but the cranberry wild rice bread was the real star of the sandwich. The corned beef hash was a bit salty but I'll take homemade over the canned stuff any day! I had to try a side of their sausage gravy because my southern roots demand it, and I can say it's a decent attempt with good amount of black pepper and sausage flavor. They have an extensive case of pies which were tempting but we were full from lunch. We ended up loving the bread so much that we took a whole loaf home. Service was friendly which was a relief considering we ended up coming in at 2:20 when they close at 3. Next time in the area I definitely want to try the pie and maybe a smelt wrap made with lefse!

I Googled for places and this place had an outstanding score, so I was expecting good things. And that is exactly what we found here. It was a local diner scene with a little upscale flamboyance thrown in to make it something much more special. Food: Fresh and quality are the two main highlights on the menu. I noticed a lot of things were made in-house and prepared daily. The produce that was on each dish was bright, vibrant and at peak freshness. The berries were bold, the lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes were meaty and big. It kicked everything up a notch. And yes, the food was amazing because of it. Large portions to fill you right up and get you ready to get back on the road. Verdict: Awesome food without losing that small town feel made this an A+ stop. This will be a spot to visit again when we are back in the area.

While we were waiting, we were offered a couple of smaller tables, which would have split the group. We declined (but appreciated the offer). Got seated, with menus and waters. The server took our drink orders, and those items came right away. I was surprised by the fresh-squeezed orange juice -- nice touch. The server was very pleasant, helpful, and efficient. It didn't take that long for all of us to get our orders. Everything was hot, flavorful, and good-sized portions. The pancakes were big and fluffy. The eggs were moist. My avocado toast was nicely made and tasted fresh. And the two poached eggs were medium -- exactly how they were ordered. The manager (or owner?) stopped by during the meal to ask if all was okay. It was. Definitely a place I would recommend or come back to.

The review of the Reuben motivated me to get it and I am SO HAPPY I did. I wanted to lose myself in that sandwich. Tender meat that melts with each bite. It was well balanced with the flavors. I got the American fries as a side which were crispy they way I like them. Just as the other review stated it was a very filling meal. I took half home. The only negative is is live too far away to eat here weekly!!!

This was not good. I stopped by for breakfast. The place is attached to a gas station. I've had some great food from similarly arranged restaurants, but... not this time. I had a veggie omelet with hash browns and OJ. I tried to figure out what order to talk about these in, since they were all really, really bad. The veggie omelet... it was bad. The green peppers, if I had to guess, had been prepped a few days earlier. They were greyish-green. Not close to fresh. It was just nasty. The hash browns.... they were bad. I've literally never had bad hash browns until I ate here. There was just this flavor.... it wasn't good at all. The OJ was sour. Yelp says to talk about the ambiance. There were some really offensive people playing dice at one of the tables. They were regulars. It was a pleasant distraction from the food. In short- don't eat here.

I thought that was funny because our last stop here the French fries are already crisp which makes them the best French fries! Alas, his did come out a little darker and a little crispier. He said his cheeseburger was excellent and it was also huge, and he took 1/2 of his burger and fries out the door with him. He also had a cup of chicken and dumpling soup as I raved about it from our last visit. I ham an internal battle with choosing what I thought I should eat to save calories for our weekend, and what I wanted to eat.
