I went in on January 6 to pick up a Rosca de Reyes, and honestly, it was not what I expected at all. The bread was extremely dry, almost stale, and it ended up being one of those situations where nobody even wanted to take it home. At first, I thought I scored a good deal because a large rosca usually runs around $40-$50, and this one was closer to $33, but now I understand why. With something this traditional, especially something people look forward to once a year, the quality really matters, and unfortunately, this one missed the mark. I didn't try any of their other pastries, and to be fair, maybe those are better, but Rosca de Reyes is such a staple that it's hard to excuse when it's done poorly. It actually hurts to write this review because I want local bakeries to succeed, but I also feel like I need to be honest with myself and with others who might be deciding where to buy theirs. On a positive note, the staff was very kind and welcoming. The bakery itself was empty when I went, and it's tucked into the corner of a parking lot, so it's easy to miss if you don't already know it's there. I'm sure regulars know exactly where to park and how things work, but for a first visit tied to such a special tradition, the experience just didn't deliver. Thumbs up for the most truly authentic Mexican Panaderia in Azusa ! Mexican from ELA I had not found a good panaderia in this side of town. Tried one in Covina but blah, so I always had to go back to ELA La Favorita !!! Yummmm yes go there too lol, until last year or the year b4 by accident. So glad I did ! I was craving Pan Dulce and Yelped of course and found this place and had to try it. If you want authentic pan dulce in Azusa, this is it ! Skip the Mexican markets, that bread is stale and does not taste authentic. Am I right or am I right ? As a kid when we went to Jalisco, my grandma always took us for pan in the evenings :D yummmm That's where my love of pan dulce comes from ! It's her fault lol Even though she made us walk like 2 miles just for pan & chocolate calientito yummm lol Sometimes I didn't want to go. Now in retrospect, the walking was a good idea you know, all the carbs ! CEMITAS or is it Semitas!!! I don't know but Yummmm !! Some people I know don't like them cuz it's plain or never tried it, but it has like fennel seeds or something spicy like cinnamon baked into them because I love them & as a child I always chose that one & cuernos ! Like I said, dunk them in super cold milk or warm chocolatito abuelita and you can't go wrong ! They also have the best cuernos !!! What am I talking about ? Waste of money honestly don't go here unless you wanna be overcharged like it's absolutely ridiculous. I've gone several times trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and because it happens to be so close to my job I try getting some things to go home with but, it's like the guy tries to always make the total come out to 30 or more meanwhile the bakery that's further from my house had fresh bread and I can get like 3 bags for 8$!!!! I really thought hey maybe I could be mistaken or something but after the 3rd time I went and the order was just completely different and yet still came out to that much was just outrageous and my bread was stale like what the heck! Where have I been all this time? A tiny bakery located in an unappealing plaza. Upon walking in you see cases of baked good and some trays and tongs on the counter. It's self serve: grab your own bread from the bread case and paid at the counter. They have a variety of different sweet bread, donuts, cake and cookies to choose from. I see they also have some hot foods that you can order as well. We picked some random sweet bread and cakes to try and they were all very good! The place looked clean and the cashier who helped me had a mask on which is a plus! I just wish they could provide a base sheet for the trays where you can put the goods on. Saw on Yelp that this spot had really good reviews. I could smell the fresh bread the second I walked into the shop. They not only serve pan dulce, but they also sell food. The workers there are extremely nice. I got two bags of pan dulce and Caldo De Res for my Tia. She thought they were really good. Will definitely be back for more! They got a little bigger in space and also expanded their menu which now includes Tacos (BEST PASTOR AND ASADA ever) and the service was amazing. Although the inside is sparse. The tamales are not. Delicious. Big. Not dry, but moist. And they are warm when bought. I had to eat a tamal de elote (corn tamal) in the car. I couldn't wait. Slightly sweet and lots of corn flavor. When I got home, the grandkid twins scarfed all four chicken and pork tamales. the service is quick and straightforward. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This is a family owned by brothers and I small business. One would think they would have excellent people skills and be clean! Totally the opposite!! I was with my son looking at the bread when I noticed a cocroache with I'm assuminc little babies. Right away I told the man upfront. I heard this place had good tamales so I figured I'd check it out for dinner. I got some tamales and pan dulce. The outside and inside look really unassuming, but the quality of their food is pretty good. Tamales were tasty and flavorful I got the pork, chicken, and cheese each about $1.80. The quantity of each tamale kind of varied because some of mine were more stuffed and some less, but still all very tasty. My favorite was the pork, but chicken and cheese were close seconds. When entering the store the smells really show you that everything is freshly baked. The breads were all good quality and I could tell they were well baked by how fluffy the concha I got was and how crispy my strawberry pastry was. I'll probably make this place my go-to instead of getting my Mexican breads at grocery stores. Will definitely be back to try more of their pastries and food! read more

This panadería makes very good pan dulce. They also make food and tamales but they can be pricey. However , no matter the price the food is tasty. They can be busy especially on Sunday mornings, when people who attended mass across the street come in for pan dulce and food. It isn't fancy but it's clean. The bread okay and the bolillo was like that old kind of bolillo every Panaderia used to have. I saw the reviews and decide to try the pan dulce. It seem to be a ok at first but then I saw the way the bread was all over the shelves, I started to reconsider my decision. The bread was very dry, also it had a oily taste on some of the other ones. They used wheat on some of the pan, which just made it more dry. I would not recommend this place for the bread. read more

I had not bought tamales here since Christmas. I bought a few chicken tamales last night. Very disappointing- they were VERY THIN all masa with a shred or 2 of chicken, no exaggeration. This was a ripoff since Tamales aren't cheap. Also, all the bread shelves were exposed since the glass doors don't fully close. I notice a fly in there. Yuck! Go elsewhere. read more

Nice soft cinnamon sugar topped conchas. The fruit filled turnovers are pretty and flaky, but low on filling. Guava pastries felt hard when I put my tong on one, so I skipped those. We got some fruit turnovers and some chorizo con frijoles empanadas and they were delicious. We also got some conchas that were really good, less sweet than what we normally get in Texas (in a good way) with a hint of cinnamon. They were perfect with a hot cup of coffee. Excellent customer service, very friendly staff and well stocked with Mexican pastries. The tamales are warm and delicious when ordered the day of but they run out quickly, especially on cold mornings. I pre-ordered two dozen tamales last year around the holidays and I have to say I was not impressed with those. I saw a van delivering them frozen and then stocking a near by fridge. The tamales were dry and unimpressive. I prefer the ones they make in-house. I would not recommend the preorder ones.
