My last visit here was possibly a year ago, and I was very pleased. I ordered 2 Boston cream donut, 2 lemon, 2 jelly' and a cinnamon roll. Waited until I got home to enjoy the cream with a cup of coffee, opened the box to a cinnamon roll the size of my tire, 2 of those HUGE strawberry donuts (not what I asked for) but what the heck and the 2 bc. Great (though expensive) donuts, intentionally insulting service. Donut Man has always been too far away to go from our home(s) to just visit there, and there aren't any other businesses in the area to do errands. So it's been a while since we visited. But during our return from Palm Desert back to Long Beach, we took a slight detour to Glendora to pick up their famous donuts during late morning, hoping that it wasn't too busy. There wasn't much of a line, with plenty of surface parking nearby. It's walk-up only, with a small window in the front where you place your order and get your box. The guy manning the window was giving off strange vibes: definitely felt it as I watched him interact with the customers in front of us: telling vs listening. The exit to the line is the same as the entrance, so the previous customers had to squeeze past us. I then waited for the cashier to come back...as he did and before I could speak, he slammed shut the screen on the window in my face and yelled something to the effect of ~I'm busy, will come back in a bit~. The slamming of the door is a practiced bit, and was meant to show everyone who was in charge. He did come back in a bit, but by this time I was nonplussed. I knew what to order (thank goodness), but then he asks 'What kind of strawberry?'...idk. So I pointed to the famous strawberry (as mentioned on the receipt)...no response, but he must have gotten what he wanted. Then his next response was 'You will pay for this AFTER I've boxed up the donuts' as he pointed to the credit card machine. What's funny was that he smiled and joked with his co-workers while he was doing this (just not at the customers)...so this must be the normal here. We got 5 things in total: 2 tiger tails ($3.40 each), 2 strawberry ($6.50), 1 sugar ($2.05). All were excellent donuts , with the whole strawberries being used not being overly sweet this time. The dough used for the donuts reminds me of a very good Chinese donut holes: a bit yeasty, but not as much as a KrispyKreme, and not cakey at all. With a sugar glaze, it very well could be my perfect donut. The donuts are indeed all that, but the possibility of such rude customer interaction (and that the owners are putting him and his attitude out in front instead of in the back where it belongs) negates any inclination to want to return (note to my future self). read more

The donuts here are priced a tad more than you would pay at other donut shops; HOWEVER, they are all totally worth the extra few cents, as these donuts are DELICIOUS and filling. You MAY feel a little guilty about eating donuts, but one bite of any donut from the Donut Man and that guilt will quickly disappear. Service is good and as efficient as can be, considering that there is ALWAYS a line of customers. Decided to stop at Donut Man because my husband was craving something sweet, and he knows this place has a wide assortment of donuts, including specialty ones. The sweet aroma you smell, when walking up to the window is such an inviting scent. As usual we picked out some of our favorites along with several others. Their donuts are ALWAYS fresh, and perfectly balanced with a texture that's light and airy. The lemon is my favorite, and peanut butter and jelly is my daughter's favorite. After ordering a dozen of donuts, I ordered a Coke Zero. This brings me to the only reason for not giving this place a 5 star. The first sip of my soda tasted as if the ice or soda absorbed all of the donut and grease odors. It did not taste like a Coke Zero. It tasted like a glazed donut. Finally - Mr Donut Man! I've been wanting to try the strawberry donut but the idea of waking up early to wait in line never really worked out for me - so when I called tonight to ask if they had the infamous strawberry donut and was told yes - I drove over at 10:30 pm. Best part no line. - The strawberry donut was sooo yummy! It's a a tad pricey at $6.50, but it's on par with a dessert at a restaurant, so not that bad. The iced donut paired perfectly and it really didn't disappoint. - maple donut was also really good! It's a nice fluffy donut with the right amount of maple. Well, well, what can I say about this place? . I think it's been on the Food Network. It's been recognized as a unique donut place.. they are known for their strawberry filled and peaches filled donuts. Those are pretty big and I think they can be split. Or if you have a big appetite, you can eat it all. I stopped here today and I got a red velvet which I've never had before. It was pretty good. It was kind of dry on the dough part. Donut Man is an institution from 1972 started by Jim and Miyoko Nakano, Japanese Americans seeking to achieve "the American Dream". The shop first started as Foster's Donuts, a franchise, but there was a decision to go independent, and Donut Man was born. My two iconic donut versions include fresh fruit, namely Peach and Strawberry. My favorite is the Peach which has perfectly ripe yellow meat, that melts in your mouth without being gooshy. Summer fragrance of Peach lingers. The glaze is not too sweet and makes the generous peach slices glisten. A round, puffy, golden brown, sugar glazed, holeless donut with a lightly leathery skin is slit open and all this fruit is stuffed inside. The same for their strawberry version. Both of these fresh fruit donuts are only in the summer season. Strawberry in late spring, early summer and peaches in mid summer through early fall. Other seasonal styles like pumpkin frosting are found around Halloween-Thanksgiving. Don't always believe their webpage which was touting cream puffs filled with whipped cream cheese with fruits like blueberries. But when I went to the order window and asked for one, the salesperson looked at me with no clue of what I was talking about. The right hand doesn't seem to know what the left hand is doing. They put this fritter in a box the size of a large square cake box. They usually make these at night time. I arrived just before 12am on. Thursday night. There was still a line of about 6 people at that hour on that day, which shocked me, but they are famous and any time of the day is a good time for donuts and coffee. Noticed a couple of EMTs in line working an overnight shift. I was very happy they are open 24 hours a day. Not many donut stores, or restaurants in general and I was coming home for a concert and needed a pick-me-up. I got the famous strawberry donut, how could I not? And a small coffee. They had just made a fresh tray of them and hadn't even put them in the window yet. It was DIVINE! It looks soooo sweet, but when you bite into it, it totally isn't. Just fresh strawberry flavor busting through with a very light pie-like glaze and a super fluffy donut as the vehicle to carry it. One of my favorite donut experiences ever, I must say. So one part that I didn't expect to be impressed about was the small coffee. I put just a hint of half and half in there and it was so flavorful. It didn't have to be good. The donuts are the star, but it happened to be the perfect medium roast to pair with the donuts. I drank it all the way home and kept getting reimpressed every time I took a sip. I understand I went late at night, which probably meant I got some of the freshest items that they were preparing for the following morning rush, so maybe that is the hack. They're know especially for their seasonal fresh fruit donuts. I've known about this place for years and actually got donuts at the DTLA Grand Central Market location. My recent visit here would be my first at this location. I was in the area because I was trying to catch the new Superman movie on IMAX and the theater nearby had an IMAX screen. It was a later showing so since this place is open 24 hours, I thought it would be great to stop by and grab some donuts on my way home. Since it was late at night, there was no line. The person taking my order was helpful and was pretty standard in terms of service when going to late night donuts spots like this. I got a fresh strawberry donut among a couple other donuts that looked really good. The donuts are pretty large. I got four and it fit the box they had. My friends took me to The Donut Man last night. Believe it or not, this was my first time despite having lived in the SGV for decades. While we were ordering, many customers started coming in. I truly enjoyed my donut as I love strawberries with glaze. The strawberries are bright red, sweet, juicy, and wholesome. They are so fresh and firm. I must confess that I enjoyed the strawberries more than the donut part itself. I wish I had some whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, so I can call this my birthday donut. Keep in mind that the strawberry donuts are seasonal, which is a little bit of a bummer. Fresh Strawberry Donut: This is what makes donut man so famous. It truly does not disappoint. There were so many strawberries packed about 7-9 in a donut. Strawberries were about a 1-2 preserved strawberry that had a slight tart and sweetness while being soft but having a fresh texture interior. Donut itself was fluffy and lightly glazed. I appreciate that they packaged the donut by wrapping with wax paper all around the donut, it made the packaging last long so that the glaze didn't make box damp. read more

Got here at 10pm Thursday night and there was a consistent flow of customers! Fresh batch of strawberry donuts came out, I had to try some on the spot and OMG was it delish!!!! Strawberry was slightly tart which balanced the syrup and donut perfectly! Their strawberries looked so fresh. Some tasted good, but some may not have been fully riped. Unfortunately, I didn't eat the Fresh Strawberry Donut while it was fresh. Located on Route 66 in Glendora this oldie but goodie never disappoints.. I was lucky to find myself in SoCal during strawberry season and a quick check on IG confirmed their strawberry donuts were available. On Friday afternoon there was no wait .. I grabbed one strawberry donut and a lemon flavor .. the strawberry was loaded up with sweet juicy strawberries and the lemon one was oozing that sweet slightly tart lemony goodness. My daughters stick to the traditional chocolate long john and tiger tail .. even though they are like foot longs and not your standard donut shop size. There's parking in the back and along the street in front. Standard drink offerings, no fancy coffee drinks here. This is a carry and go with no seating areas. Finally trying this such a historic donut shop!!! Even though I went around 10pm the donuts were fresh. And I love how they have "unglazed" old fashion. Glazed donuts are too sweet for me. Like in the picture, I tried the strawberry as well. I really liked how tart those strawberries were. It complemented the glazed dough which led to the perfect balance. This is also stated on their website. So they are on point! I also got a French cruller and that was my least favorite. The dough was nice and airy but the glaze tasted cheap. Not real chocolate. The cashier girl was very polite :) As a first gen Japanese I would love to continue supporting this business after finding out the great success story of Jim Nakano!!! read more

IYKYK. It's the Strawberry donuts that keeps everyone coming! Not much more needs to be said about The Donut Man. Donut Man is a staple to the community of Glendora and since they are open 24/7 locals and out of towners drive here for a opportunity to score their fix of the famous Strawberry Donut. Since I live locally, friends and family request us to bring some over if we get a chance. The current cost of 1 Strawberry Donut is now $6.50 and its currently in season. The strawberries are so fresh and sweetness is just right with the glaze donut. They donuts on display all look mouth-watering you can't help but take a picture. Lines can vary from day to day and parking is small, but you also park on the street. It's nice to see The Donut Man is still going strong for 50+ years. read more

I live quite far from here, but was 12 miles away and decided to drop by. Got a fresh strawberry donut and a Lemon. They were nicely filled as usual, but not sure what it is if the recipe changed for the donut itself, but the donuts were not as fresh the following day, like they used to be. Kinda dry instead of light and fluffy. A little disappointing. I still always recommend them anyways, but as other donut shops start serving the same fresh strawberry filled donut, I may eventually visit them if their donut stays fresher longer. read more
