When I went to pay for my order the jerky was 1.68 lbs, (6x more than what I asked for), the longan was 1.85 lbs, (7-8x more than what I asked for), and the ginger was 0.6 lbs (almost 3x of what I asked for). There were 2 Vietnamese women who act very welcoming and serve you tea along with alot of samples to make feel like you have to buy from them. The beef jerky was good. Some of them were quite interesting. When weighing the stuffs, pay attention to the scale...the bag should be 0g. My aunt, dad, and I got carried away and ended up spending way more than we had intended. Without realizing it, we spent almost $400 in beef jerky, dried squid, and tea! The beef jerky, dried squid, and other dried/preserved items are stored in barrels and sold by the pound. The beef jerky we bought ranged from $26-$32 per pound, and the dried squid were $26-$28 per pound. The sales ladies were really good at letting you try a sample of everything so you get sucked in. We made the mistake of going there on an empty stomach before lunch, so everything tasted great and we wanted it all! What we discovered a little too late was, if you said you wanted a half pound, you ended up with a pound. If you wanted a pound, you ended up with 2 pounds. They basically doubled the weight of everything we selected, so we ended up spending double what we had intended. I didn't mind this time around, since my aunt was visiting from Philadelphia and they don't have this store there. Under normal circumstances I would have them take out half because it was double what we wanted, but I let it slide because it was for my aunt. Very sneaky, so just be mindful when you go there! This appears to be a chain; however, I always end up visiting this location in Little Saigon. They offer samples of their per pound products and complimentary cold/hot tea so you can see which flavors you like. Upon entering, someone will attend to you to offer you samples and assist with packaging. If you plan to purchase more than one thing and there is more than one customer; I recommend you make sure that you get your own basket for items. Otherwise your order might get mixed with others. I think they can speak some English, but it's definitely easier if you can speak another language (e.g. Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, etc.). Every time I have visited this location though, they have definitely been nice although sometimes you may feel a little rushed if there are other customers. It can feel very fast paced. If it's your first time, I recommend buying their beef jerky (recommend Kho Bo Cay = BBQ Beef Jerky OR Kho Bo Dac Biet = beef, salt, chili), dried seafood (squid is a good choice) and/or wrapped candy fruits (recommend dates). All of it is by the pound. They have a promotion of buy 5 pounds, get free half pound. For 10 pounds, you can get a free pound. Since they eyeball by the pound items initially then you will probably get more than you asked for. If you want to be exact, then be clear if you want less during the weighing process. If you end up ordering a lot of different items and can't identify the items by sight alone, I recommend you ask them to label items as you order them. Otherwise it's definitely confusing when you are gifting/eating items. They usually heat seal items the bags, but it was a bit chaotic during one of my visits so a couple of my bags weren't sealed properly. I recommend just zipping them all up to be on the safe side. They also sell tea and other items, but jerky was the main goal for me! Nearby parking is limited, but there are spaces farther out. read more

If you're from Hawaii, it's a crack seed store basically. Last time I was here, I totally missed the side where they had li hi mui gummy bears and the gummy worms. I saw they had pickled mangoes in the fridge too. I decided to leave a review since we've frequented this exact location numerous times and I've gained enough experience to leave a review. So first, every time I've come in they speak only Vietnamese. Did not hear anyone speaking English, so make sure you bring a translator. They give samples of items. Some where given when asked but many times they grab something random and hand it to you. There were little to no prices on a lot of items, so I feel like they make up the prices as you go. Also be very careful with the amount you ask for, I feel like I'd ask for 1/2# but they go over and then still charge you instead of trying to fix the amount. But I guess it's ok since we can't get any of these seeds in Maui. But still, if someone asks for 1/2#, be accurate about it. Since there's no prices and no receipt given, you can't really be sure of the amount you pay. We got a bunch of seeds and rice crackers, price came out to about $70. Then when we got back to the hotel, noticed we were missing the squid. We tried to rummage around for the receipt to make sure we weren't charged for it but couldn't find anything. Oh well, hopefully we weren't charged.. The positive, they do ship their items to Maui. I think shipping started at $10/#. They also have TONS of locations, so if this one isn't nice, try another. lol. read more

This is a very conflicting review I'm writing, because their goodies are good, but the service ladies and business etiquette are pretty crazy! My personal experience, I asked for 4 1/2 pounds cha bong (shredded dried pork), and I made sure I tailed the lady who packed the bags for me when she packed it until she weighted it. I also got some 1/4 pounds dried squid. The beef jerky, squids, cha bong are so good, but you really gotta watch everything they are doing. AND, DON'T be intimidated by the staff or owner. Tell them to BACK OFF and just browse the store on your own time, don't feel rushed, that's their tricks! The beef jerky here - especially the fruit flavored non-spicy one - is amazing. And a popular request for gifts for relatives that live out of state. But just like everyone else has mentioned - the sales tactics is dishonest and unethical. I wasn't born yesterday. And luckily, my Vietnamese is strong enough (despite not looking like I could speak the language) to firmly state that I only want a certain amount of jerky in each bag. I think it's the fact that I caught the sales associates off guard when I allowed them to bad mouth me to each other in Vietnamese before I responded (in Viet) that I understood they said. Now in any other time and place, if I didn't have to get multiple 1 lb. bags of these delicious beef jerky, I would've just walked out - but since it was a special request, and since my out-of-state relatives have been "deprived" without this specific brand of jerky since COVID started, I just held my ground and politely asked them if they could continue to fill the remaining bags up to 1lb. each, without bad mouthing their customer. The embarrassed clerk asked if a little weight over the 1lb was okay - and I replied "a little is a few ounces, not another pound. If it's a whole 'another pound, replace the giant piece with a smaller one, or find someone else here that knows how to properly use the scale." Yup. Bitch-mode activated. If they weren't talking behind my back earlier I would've been more polite. What kind of retail establishment thinks it's acceptable to talk about their customers this way? Now I get that realistically, it's unlikely that they'll be able to get each bag to weigh exactly 1 pound - but a little over is understandable. You have to be firm with what you're asking for. Since they are handling the snacks using tongs and gloves, they CAN take snacks back if your bag ends up more than you requested. All five of my 1lb. bags weighed a total of 5.22 lbs. I'm sure it would've been several pounds heavier if I hadn't spoken up earlier. The snacks and selection is five stars. The service (if you can even call it that) - is less than 1 stars. Price is competitive to local stores who sell similar things, they're very generous in giving samples for you to purchase product, can feel a little pushy and overwhelming but that's typical Vietnamese vendor style. READ BEFORE YOU VISIT THIS CHAIN: Initially, we made it very clear that we wanted 1lb of each respective item. The salesperson eyeballs everything and only when it comes to the "free" gift they give you after 5lb or 10lb purchase, they'll eyeball it correctly. After each bag turned out to be closer to 1.8-2 lbs, we checked out at a shocking $470. The checkout process is very quick so they know what they're doing in not allowing you to check or double check the weight you told them. And after checking out and walking out the store, we went online to check the reviews and weren't the only ones that feel victim to this shady business practice. We went in to ask either 1) They give us the correct weight and refund us the difference or 2) Refund us for the whole purchase. They were happy to comply with the first option. And we were able to get the first order fully refunded and purchased the correct initial amount in weight we asked for, which turn out to be $170, a difference of $300! This experience left a poor taste in regards to Vua Kho Bo. And although their products are good quality and taste good. I don't know if it's worth the hassle of dealing with poor business etiquette. I'm 100% sure I've written a review for this dry goods spot in Little Saigon before because I literally bought green tea from them last year for my dad. Well once again, I went in to buy the same 777 green tea for my dad and this year the same box of tea went up by $9. Yay, for inflation. The ladies are nice but buyer beware. Luckily, I've only had to buy tea here as I don't shop very often in this area due to distance. Having seen some of the reviews, definitely watch for shady dealings if you are buying dried goods by weight. I speak Vietnamese so I've gotten good service. Be careful of the sales tactics in this store. I went in, was invited to try some samples, then asked to buy half lbs of a few different types of beef jerky. She packed some in the bags for me and some other types she said the cashier would get it for me from the back since it's fresher. Turns out she packed a lb in each bag and the prepacked ones in the back were a lb each. I told her I had only wanted a half lb of each and she said she already packed it and to please just buy it. My husband was buying the spicy tamarind and told her how much to pack. She told the cashier to just ring up a certain price when it's actually sold by weight. The lady gets you with the samples!!! This is similar to the "crack seed" stores you see in Hawaii. They make a array of different types of "candies" and beef jerky. I love the candied ginger, Japanese style dried plum, and beef jerky. My mom ended up getting tons of stuff (again they sucker you in with the samples). I think she ended up buying some type of tea too. Also they sell thing based on the weight. Like other reviews mentioned make sure they are weighting the proper amounts for your order. Firstly, the salespeople were overly aggressive, not giving me enough time to decide on a purchase. I would agree with many of the negative reviews about this store. My family came in together and all the sellers were so pushy and my aunt didn't have enough time to think on what she should buy. At the end, while checking out, I saw the one of the ladies did a trick and she thought none saw that. She put her finger on the scale and made the bags heavier than they were. $20-30 was what this store might trick on each customer with their low class way. But they lost trust from a lot of customers from now on, including my family and I. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. It's not about the money, it's about their dishonesty. I asked for 2 lbs of mix and match kho bo and they added an extra pound without asking me. They said they couldn't remove the price or put any back, so I was forced to pay for 3 pounds, when I only needed 2 for some gifts I was planning on giving. I wanted 2 pounds at $29/lb each, which should be around $60 before tax, but instead was charged 88$ with no other options. They did not feel bad or apologize for adding more and tried playing off that it wasn't much more, saying "it's just a little bit more". How is "just a little bit more" nearly $30 more than what I wanted to pay? Go elsewhere or make your own kho bo at home because this place has no shame and doesn't care about the customer. read more

This is this place to stop by if you want good Chinese beef jerky. It's not like your typical jerky in the store. It has a softer texture but packed with flavor. I went with my two family favorites the spicy beef and curry beef jerky. It is a about $26 per pound. The ladies here tend to load up the bag so watch out or you'll end up spending hundreds here. They are well known for their beef jerky but they also have an array of other dried goods too. Including different types of dried seafood like squid whole or shredded, dried fish and shrimps all flavored with exotic spices. They are very open to sampling, there is small cup on the edge of the container with sample sized pieces. They also have different herbal candies and chews. For the holidays they had a special with every purchase you get a free box of vitamin C tea and a new years calendar. Overall this is my favorite place to stop by to get beef jerky when I in Westminster. This is a place you cannot miss, it's on the first level of the mall. read more

Yes, they usually stuff the bag more than what I asked, but I let go because that is how they usually are. Today, the skinny lady, I think she's the owner, she never smiles toward the customer and has a b*tchy-est face ever. I got bad luck when serve by her. I bought 2 kind of beef jerky, half pound each. She stuffed a lot in the bag, I told her I only wanted half of a pound, she told me it not even half of a pound. When checked out, each of them is almost $30. When half of a pound is only around $17.
