This is an olde school Latino bakery frequented by locals. Right behind the 7 Eleven gas station. The menu is what you expect. Pan sobao, avenas y sándwiches de desayuno. The breakfast sandwiches are well made and flavorful. There's also a mix of baked items. We walked in there's a smell of burnt oil. Not a deal breaker. From Yelp, I recently learned about this Cuban bakery/ sandwich shop near the Northeast side of the Park/Prospect intersection. There are a few tables inside and one outside, but most people seemed to opt for takeout. My only points of comparison for a Cuban bakery/sandwich shop are some of the most beloved places in the Miami and Tampa/St. Pete's areas. The guava pastry here was tasty and pleasingly dense, but not as good as what I've had in Florida. I also ordered a Cubano sandwich. I'm not sure if they gave me the wrong order of if they're using creative license to riff on a Cubano. The sandwich was served on long pressed bread like a traditional Cubano, but the filling was unexpected. The exterior of the pressed bread could have used a little more of a fat to make it the ideal color and texture. The filling had tasty shredded Cuban style pork, "diced" ham, lettuce, tomatoes and maybe some some sort of pickled relish mayo. There was no melted Swiss, no pickle, no mustard and no slices of ham. I liked this sandwich more than some Cubano's I've had, but I'd have to say they gave me the wrong order or they should call it something else since it lacked critical Cubano elements. The service was fine, but a bit indifferent. Some of the signs and parts of the inside could use some fixing-up. Super casual place with great food. I don't think I've ever been to a Puerto Rican bakery before so this was a first. I had a hard time deciding on a sandwich since they all sounded so good. I almost got their specialty, the Cuban, but decided to go with the Tripleta instead which has pork, turkey, and pastrami on it. This sandwich was so awesome, the meats were really flavorful and all the fixings, including the ketchup which I've never really had on a traditional sandwich really worked. What stood out the most to me was the bread they use. It was flat with a nice crisp on the outside which really made it. I also got a few pastries; the quesito and some guava pastry, both which were really good. Service was fast and friendly and you definitely get your money's worth. I might be adding a little more to the last reviews of this place, but I came to try the sandwiches and pastries that were raved about. I bought the Cubano, Tripleta (Pork, Turkey and Pastrami), and the pastries - quesito and tornillo. The place looked new and clean. All the stuff were organized and neat. Even the chalk board that displayed the menu of foods looked clean with no smears. I had the Cubano. It was tasty. The meat was pretty juicy. I ordered togo the Tripleta Sandwich which was pork, turkey and pastrami. That along with a soda, quesito and tornillo (both pastries) for $18.42 out the door. I love when I get to use to my Spanish. Having grown up with a Dominican father and a Cuban step mother, though I was never taught directly the ways of the Latino culture, I still embraced it. I am pretty proficient in Spanish speaking so I'm glad I can order things in another language. Okay, okay, I apologize for digressing. I guess it was the food from here that brought in nostalgia and......serotonin. lol. Once again, you know it's a good place when Latin people come in here to eat. The guy behind the counter was Half Dominican, like me (interesting to me, maybe not to you)! His name was Hamlet. I can't believe I missed this place! Great bakery /"sandwhich" place lol I have not much to add that Bryon hasn't mentioned. This place has great potential to deliver great lunches. Nothing is over $6 which is nice. They have amazing pressed sandwiches. The glass window display was full even at 2PM. I like a shop that has plenty to select from. I can't wait to try all of the yummy things on display. I'll be drinking tons of questionable chemically prepared drinks this summer but all for Yelp! They added a seating area now. The shop is equipped with leather chairs and free WiFi. The only problem is the connection is extremely slow the last time I was there. I had some pastries and believe most of the pastries are filled with "paste" not the real fruits. Can't go wrong with cheap prices and fresh food. read more

I've driven past this place many times without stepping inside, but finally gave it a try after seeing all the glowing reviews here. I love a good sandwich as much as the next person, and I especially love pernil so I was excited. Maybe my expectations were too high. I ordered the Cubano that so many people have raved about, and unfortunately, I thought it was just alright. Tasty enough for lunch, but not something I would go out of my way to have again. I thought the pernil was a touch too salty and the whole sandwich was smothered in garlic butter, which kind of drowned out all the other flavors in the sandwich. I don't have anything against butter in my sandwiches (fat = flavor), but even I had to admit this was too much and it was a struggle to even finish half my sandwich. I did think the bread was excellent however, and the sandwich was pressed to perfection. Maybe I'll try a different sandwich and ask them to go easy on the butter next time. I also got one of the pastries on display for dessert. I have no idea what it was called, since they weren't labeled, but I pointed at it because it looked good, and down it went into my stomach. It was filled with something, but desperately needed more filling, because it ended up being mostly puff pastry, which made it too dry for me. The glass display cases were filled with tempting sweets, so maybe I just picked the wrong one? I'll definitely try to go back to see if I like the other ones better. Anyways, there was nothing bad about this place, but nothing compelling either. You order and pay at the counter with the nice lady, and then you have the option of grabbing a table or seat at the counter on the other side of the building, or taking your food to go. One of my last stops in Hartford, I recall the visit quite clearly. It was my first time at the bakery and I relied on Yelpers' recos for the pan sobao, which I wanted to bring home for my in-laws back in Atlanta. They'd tried some from a bakery in Orlando and fell in love with its ever-so-slightly sweet flavor and pillowy softness. The pan sobao was still a bit warm, having come out of the oven not too long before I stepped foot inside. In additiion to the bread, I picked up a bunch of guava pastries for bf and his fam. I think I paid between $5-7, which was a steal in my book. Once back, we all dug into the pan sobao and felt it was well made and comparable to the one from Orlando. The pastries were fantastic, which a nice amount of guava filling and just flaky enough (I honestly dislike super flaky pastries, first because they leave a telltale sign of my guilty act all over my top and secondly because I feel parched after eating such dryness). Given a chance to go back, I will visit Panadería Pan de Cielo. Service was good and pretty fast, though I am not sure if the woman who helped me wanted to make me look like a douche. She spoke to me in Spanish, even though many would assume that I don't with my uber-SE Asian features. I am a bread person. They make an epic pan sobao (butter in the batter) and even their pan de agua (water in the batter) is great... considering I am a buttery bread person. The staff is more than helpful, they offer gracious hospitality even at the busiest of times. I love the tripleta with everything for lunch with a coco rico or a malta. The coffee is EVERYTHING! They joyfully heat the milk. And did I mention their pastries are very traditional, just enough sweet to be enjoyed with your cafe. Not enough to be overly sweet. I know where Bayamon is located, Puerto Rico I did not know what she meant by Quesitos. That's all I needed to hear because when it comes to food... she's a foodie. Location - across from Prospect Cafe on Prospect, on the West Hartford, Hartford line next to West Hartford Lock. I went with my wife to check it out. I uploaded some pictures to show you what this place is all about. The Quesitos, it turns out are Puff pastries, covered with a shiny sweet glaze. The filling is a cheesy sweet filling with another flavor that I cannot quite place. Very very good. We ordered two "Sanwiches" (not a typo) A Cubano and an Egg Bacon and cheese. The roll, not a traditional roll at all, this is like a 18" long loaf of bread, baked fresh an sliced down the side, some of the inside bread may have been removed or maybe it was just that light an puffy. The roll itself was a delight. Crammed into cubano was tasty pork and lettuce and more. See the picture. The egg and cheese was prepared the same way. Both the Sanwiches were served on a piece of wax paper laid on a standard bakery sheet. Kind of interesting presentation. Check out the pic, they cut the sanwiches in half... On recommendation by Anthony P., my friends and I checked this place out. First off, it was really clean. Second, the pastries looked delicious. Third, I thought the steak & cheese sandwich might be really good, so I got that over the highly touted Cubano. Pastries were incredible! Delicious and crispy. The sandwich is where they shined though. That possibly was the greatest steak & cheese I've ever had. It was so flavorful I could've eaten many, many more just because I didn't want to lose the taste! The best sandwiches in town, hands down. For $7.19, two people can make a meal out of one sandwich! We've tried the Cubano (not a Cuban sandwich in the Cuba/Miami sense, instead stuffed with housemade pernil, salami, and ham, lettuce, tomato, an addictive tomato cocktail ketchup sauce, garlic butter, mayo, and cheese), the Mi Cielo (pernil, steak, and ham) and the steak and cheese. Absurd. The bread is beautiful, crackly, and soft, and holds in all the ingredients, and the meats always taste fresh. Sometimes the house-cured ones can be a little fatty, but they're always moist and delicious. Haven't tried the pastries yet because we're always too full from the sandwiches, but they look great. Finally stopped here, after literally years of driving by. The menu was written clearly on the board behind the counter, and I had an idea of what I wanted to try already, based on reviews I had read- the tripleta. After reading the menu, I realized I also wanted to try the mi cielo, and decided to order both and make them into a few meals (I could say I was planning to share, but that's just a lie). The service was friendly, and the place had a small, authentic feel to it that I really enjoyed. I do have to say the wait seemed long for two sandwiches- at least 20 minutes. The group of three that came in just before me was sitting at a table waiting for their food, and I received mine even before they did (although they seemed to be more patiently waiting than I was). I figured I'd wait to see if it was worth the wait before becoming annoyed, though, and guess what? It was! The second I took my first bite I was grateful that the making of that work of art had not been rushed. I could smell the sandwiches through the tin foil and paper bag as I drove home, and they smelled delicious. I decided to try a bite of each without checking which was which and see if I could figure it out. I could not identify which sandwich was which by taste alone, but I decided on a favorite, and that turned out to be the tripleta. Both were delicious, though- so good that I forgot to take pictures! Good thing so many other great yelpers have included pictures of these tasty sandwiches already. Also, it's a great excuse for me to go back and order two sandwiches again :) They were also both big, especially for the price. I planned to eat one half of each sandwich for lunch and save the rest for the next day, but I wasn't able to finish the two halves! I ended up having some as part of dinner, and I still have lunch (and maybe more) tomorrow (and I spent $14 total). This is a great place. I can not figure out why I waited to long to stop in, but I have a feeling I'll become a regular. I now feel the need to try all of those sandwich combinations on that colorful menu. The restaurant is beautiful and clean inside, the specials or sandwiches are clearly written on the board behind the counter and despite the fact I didn't get dessert, I wanted everything that was in the display case. Hate giving bad reviews. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese hot breakfast sandwich. Admittedly this was at a busy time of morning but after 9 am. It was a full 40 minutes from entering to leaving with my hot sandwich. Here's where it gets really bad- My sandwich was ordered hot and plain and came to $5.85. Turns out its an extra $.75 to get it hot. No discount for ordering it without all the fixins. I get home and there is no egg in the sandwich. A top notch Puerto Rican bakery! I used to drive by here all the time and never went I because I just though it was another ghetto grocery store. There was my problem, I judged before I even gave it a shot. After finally stepping foot into this bakery, I'm completely hooked. The place is spotless and absolutely clean. The menu is written nice and clear on a board behind the counter. I tend to order their cubano. For about $7 you get a massive sandwich that will easily give you a food baby and knock you out.
