I read in several other reviews that the Pancake Haus has been in business for 30 years and I would imagine it has been equally that long since the place was properly cleaned. My husband and I were seated at a booth right next to a window The dust, grime and cobwebs that covered the ledges was nothing less than disgusting. We had to get up and get clean silverware as ours still had the last diners egg on it. The salt and pepper shakers were sticky and splashed with egg yolk and syrup along with all the hot sauces. The food was actually pretty good. However, it was difficult to eat it because I kept thinking if the dinning room is this filthy - what might the kitchen look like. We really wanted to like this place as non-corporate, mom and pop places are usually our favorites. I'd give it 4. Moved out here now about 20+ years from a large multi ethnic city, so had my share of lots of really good diners of all shades and styles. Have visited here regularly and still do. Your nice local family neighborhood predictable place with good food and decent prices. Far better than a chain like Denny's or Intl House Pancakes who are getting too pricey, too generic and losing service quality. This place is consistent. It caters to the usual local crowd who like quality and would dump a bad place in an instant. It's all about your "regulars." I know. Been in that industry. For now, this place is just a-okay for me. The service was fine, the place was more an American diner than a "haus". I appreciate that they know what over-medium means on eggs and that warm syrup is a must with pancakes. However, I didn't go ga-ga over anything. We did try the sourdough pancakes; there was a bitter aftertaste I couldn't get over, but the Hubby liked it. Five stars for the very friendly staff and good breakfast selection with good prices compared to Seattle. Our first visit in a Sunday had a very long wait. Today, on a Saturday, we got seated right away. Both times the food took a long time to come out so appears the kitchen may be regularly short staffed. Very disappointing visit. Our fault because we went to a pancake house and didn't have pancakes. Food was bland, plain, and tasted and looked like it was mass produced. Chuck steak was a Costco frozen hamburger patty, biscuits and gravy had hard and cold biscuits. Bacon was paper thin and cold, and an over medium egg was over cooked. Service was "ok". I have enjoyed this breakfast on many occasions. They have a great variety of pancakes, including pecan...my favorite. Authentic senior citizen decor. Coffee brewed like it was 1968. This is my favorite place to have breakfast. For every weekend this month, I have drudged up the energy to get up at 8am to drive to Edmonds from Seattle for Pancake Haus. Disclaimer: I do not like waking up at 8am (I don't even wake up this early for work) having to drive all the way to Edmonds for breakfast. But I imagine that this is the shared adversity most have that makes this place my place of sanctuary/refuge on lazy Sunday mornings. This is my place of peaceful newspaper reading, a glass of orange juice, and wonderful pancakes or waffles. The bacon is crispy. This isn't going to wow anyone, but this will make one feel at home. If any of you have seen Dead Like Me, you will understand what I mean when I say this place has the same vibe of belonging as "Der Waffle Haus". I highly recommend a short stack of Banana pancakes or the golden waffle special. They just are well proportioned and suited ways to start a day. Wait can be a bit long during the morning as there's a lot of regular patrons who have let this place hide from the lime light. I guess being tucked away in downtown Edmonds, the denizens of the town like it that way. the wait staff is courteous and do their best to keep control of the madness. read more

Good old fashioned pancakes, many kinds, My kids love 'em. They have a banquet room which has a gavel if you need one. My work has had staff meetings there before, and the service was great for a group of 15. They didn't mind that we sang and were loud. I think the Elks or the rotary has a meeting in there usually. Absolutely awful. First, it smells like smoke and looks like it hasn't been cleaned...ever. Don't peek into the kitchen--dirt, mold, disgusting. The food was tough to eat after seeing the kitchen...I played it safe with a scrambled egg and toast. The egg looked like it was microwaved. Although I have been coming more often in recent years, before that Inwas only an occassional guest. They always remember me (and what I order). I have never had a bad meal at the Pancake Haus, and I have been eating there and bringing my friends for over 4 years. The food is basic, well-cooked breakfast and lunch fare. The eggs are always carefully cooked, the hash browns are ideal, crispy and tasty. Lunch dishes are varied and well presented, one of my favorites is the Burger Dip with french fries, which, by the way, are great. Sometimes there is a wait, sometimes it is crowded, sometimes the wait staff is in a hurry...hallmarks of a popular and busy neighborhood restaurant! Did not experience much good at this venue. Here's a list of the issues: * Hostess's station doubled as a checkout counter. They made us wait for customers to checkout though we had arrived there first. Time to seat was at least 10 minutes though we were the only ones waiting. * Took 15 minutes for someone to take our order. There were at least three staff hanging around chatting and doing nothing. * Food was just edible. Ordered waffles with egg and sausage. German pancakes were crossed out on the menu, which I found strange being at a place seemingly German. * Checkout took longer than normal as they expect you to enter the tip on a POS device with a very illegible screen instead of on the receipt which many other restaurants do. So it made sense why it took long to seat us at the beginning. Overall, got irritated by the many inefficiencies to get to food that was just okay. The entire place gave an impression that it was lazily run. One additional star for the dish I ordered not being absolutely horrible. read more

Patience is what you will need when visiting this fine establishment, it starts when your driving into Edmonds. Lots of seniors reside in Edmonds and they really like to obey all the speed laws........if your not stuck behind an elderly person at the wheel with a "Edmonds type of day" sticker on their rear bumper going at least 15 miles per hour below the speed limit.....it's possible you might of strayed into Lynnwood. This place has been here for like 30 years family owned and run. They have such a great selection of breakfast to choose from I had a tough time deciding on what I wanted. I went with a eggs and hashbrowns (exciting I know) but I was craving that item so I had to have it. I also decided on wanting a side of pancakes (it is the Pancake Haus) after all. You can choose from short stack or large stack....or even try single pancakes for like $1.50 extra........this is great for when you want to try some different varieties. They have every type of pancake available, some of the ones I thought about were the banana cakes with pineapple syrup....apple....corn.......blueberry......wheat.......even chocolate chip ones. I decided on just having a bacon pancake with my eggs and hashbrowns which also came with toast. The eggs were great but the hashbrowns were awesome.....crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside........I swear ...making hasbrowns is a lost art. I thought my food was great all the way around and their is a ton of other things on the menu I want to go back and try. One item they have here is German pancakes aka Dutch Babies. You need patience when ordering these because the cook in the oven and can take 20-25 minutes....but they are well worth it. If your in a big hurry and want to eat and run....this might not be the place...........if you want a great place with lots of options this is a good bet all the way around. Just be warned if you go on a weekend......there will be a line.....but think of it this way.....most people don't wait in line for bad food now do they? The food can take a while....but having patience is the key. My only disappointment was for myself......for not trying this place sooner after driving by it for some many years...................SHAME on me. read more

Edmonds is my hometown and I've been coming to this amazing breakfast spot for at least 30 years! It's my whole family's favorite. Excellent service, GREAT FOOD and many delicious items to choose from! Prices very low compared to any other breakfast menu in Edmonds. Great kids menu, inexpensive, and they keep the coffee coming for the grown ups. You let me down, Yelp. After driving all the way from Green Lake to Edmonds to find brunch on a Sunday morning without an hour-long wait (although we still waited about twenty minutes) we decided to try this place out, pretty much solely based off of our hunger and the star rating this place has. Let me set the record straight once and for all so any future brunch-seekers will know what they're really in for. What we expected: Delicious, local, home-made "Bavarian-themed" breakfast dishes, friendly service, fresh juices, the works. The way most reviews make this place sound is truly amazing. What we got: Bland, uninspired, lifeless "breakfast staples" most likely from a can or box with a Food Services of America label on the outside. I have never had such a "literal" and boring breakfast. Egg, sausage, hash browns, pancake. Whatever you order, that and only that will be on your plate, carelessly tossed without any attempt at presentation (orange slice, anyone?). I get that the target audience here is seniors who would probably smack you with a cane if you tried to add some flavor to any of the dishes, but seriously, get at least a little creative. Oh, and it was an extra $3.00 to "upgrade" to the Pecan Pancakes, which was basically a handful of pecans tossed in the regular batter. During our breakfast conversation we were reminiscing about the great breakfasts we'd had at the dining centers back in our college days. Watercolor paintings by talented senior citizens and a decor straight out of 1979 are your constant companions as you wait for the understaffed (and in one case, heavily pregnant) crew to attend to your seating and order. This is a breakfast place, and yet sadly the senior theme continues with weak brew and cream delivered in those little truck stop containers. The morning brightened up a bit with a nicely done omelette, however the eggs had a suspiciously uniform texture. My pancakes were suberb, and arrived with butter in a tiny plastic specimen container. I guess I expect better in the Seattle area; the trip up through the blight and weariness of Aurora Ave should tell that you're leaving the confines of gastronomic Seattle proper. I wanted to give this four stars for the food but waiting that long for bad coffee and quickie mart half & half gave me a sour outlook on this haus. read more

My wife and I come here almost every week and often multiple times a week. We always get a bacon and cheddar omelet with black olives split between us. I get pancakes with peanut butter and she gets hash browns. And of course coffee. If you like a small town breakfast joint who just does good breakfast then you will love this spot. I have no connection to this place. I'm not a regular customer, not a customer that went there when I was a kid or anything else. I came in off the street knowing only the name on the sign above the place. The first thing you notice is the cattle chute that you get herded down to the podium and "Please wait to be seated" sign. there's a young girl working that podium that is probably a relative of the owners. Same with another young girl in there. I get seated in a booth that puts your belly right up to the table and I'm not fat. My next vision is of flatware that has some kind of film on it. I'm wondering what the hell this is? is the flatware well past it's useful life? I scratched at it and rubbed it with a dry napkin but no luck. That film was there to stay. I perused the menu looking to see what this Pancake Haus has to offer for pancakes. Nothing really struck me as worth a plunge into. What was I expecting? A favorite of mine from The Mission in San Diego is Blackberry/Banana pancakes with a Blackberry compote. Pretty much the same with the Adams Avenue Grill in San Diego. Fantastic! This place didn't come close. Nothing really struck my fancy and the descriptions of the pancakes always included a lot of whipped cream. IMO you shouldn't need to bury your food in whipped cream. So pancakes looked to be off the list and I looked to the omelettes. I noticed that at the bottom of the omelette sections there was a list of add-ons, for a price. I asked if the Dungeness Crab and Cheese omelette only has those two items in it. Yes, was the answer. Really? No hollandaise sauce on top. I guess not. Only crab and cheese. Humpf! Guess I won't be having that either. I really didn't want anything anyhow that I was going to have to put in my mouth with that flatware with the film on it. I went the safe route and ordered a Reuben. That should be a safe bet. While I was waiting on the Reuben I was still obsessed with the flatware. How could anyone put this on a table and not notice that? Maybe they just don't care or are totally jaded to it. I put some water on the napkin and proceeded to work on it again. Success. the film comes off. It's probably from using hard water to wash the flatware. Still doesn't excuse it being there. I did notice what appeared to be the owners cruising around and chatting with the regulars. I waited for him to stop by my table and ask how things were. No chance. Ok, so now I'm just waiting for my sandwich. It came out piping hot so I let it sit a bit. I've eaten more than one or two Reubens in my day but never one with as much sauerkraut as this one did. It dominated the sandwich. There was some corned beef in there because I could see it but i sure couldn't taste it because of all the sauerkraut. Fortunately, this meal finally came to an end. My personalityless waitress made her way to my table and asked if that was all. Oh you bet it was. Would I come back here? NO. Would I come back if I lived in the area? NO. Would I recommend it to anyone? Maybe someone I didn't like too much or someone that that liked "down home cookin'" other than that NO. there did seem to be plenty of other folks in there happily grazing away so maybe it's just me but judging from some of the other reviews I don't think so. read more

Haha... this place will just make you laugh. Its like entering a different place in history- you could be seated next to the Cleavers or WOW- Im not old enough to know any of those old shows. But it is an experience to dine here. 1st off- if you are under 50 you will be considered a "youngin". Service is OK- usually pretty quick. Best thing going for it is its CHEAP. Two of us came here to eat mid-day. Besides the people working there, we must have been the youngest people there. We were seated promptly and our orders were taken as soon as we were ready. Then we waited for our food, maybe 10 plus minutes. Maybe it was my hash browns that slowed things down. They were done very well. All the food was good. This place makes a great simple omelette, the egg is perfectly cooked. It's too bad I probably won't be eating any more of them. My family and I eat here somewhat regularly. It's consistent quality and generally good service have kept us coming back. It's not foodie but it's old school breakfast which is usually right up my alley. We came in there today 45 mins before close to be greeted with daggers from the kitchen. From the waiting area, next to the register you can look right into the kitchen. Came on a Saturday morning, and was seated quickly even thought it Was full house. Menu is great! Had the eggs Benedict and shredded hash browns. Really good. Coffee was smooth and they kept it coming. Service is good. Family friendly. Only challenge- it is loud. Really loud. I know Americans are loud people and I'm one of them.
