First and last time I eat at this restaurant the food was mediocre and the fortune cookies were so stale I couldn't even chew it

We were very disappointed as we are regular customers to this restaurant. The food was average, but the worst part was the price. They treated us like a money value rather than a customer. The price was increased by almost $5 for "holiday special" because it was Easter. When we asked the manager why, it was just for "business". I blame only myself. I haven't been to a chinese buffet in years and there is a reason. I guess that reason slipped my mind in a moment of weakness and shopping overload. Wow, what a mistake. The place was clean, the servers pleasant, but this is a god-awful buffet full of troughs of food that are all an unholy hue. Bright orange vegetable fried rice. Day-glo red nuclear waste sweet and sour sauce. Don't know what made the green beans so green but it doesn't exist in nature. The reason for the colors became obvious after I tasted the food. It all tastes the same no matter what it is. The only distinguishing feature is the color. How was the bright yellow thing? How about the that green thing or the tan thing? Blurgh. My best friend's grandparents graciously took us to this buffet for dinner, though the meal and service were anything but gracious. After a few loops around the stations I started with wonton soup. Thankfully I cut the wonton open with my spoon because the meat truly looked strange and I did not eat it. I went back for some rice and lo main which were fine, but mediocre. From the looks of the "sushi" bar I would not trust their meat or fish. The fish actually had many dark spots on it and did not look fresh. This was a very low quality buffet and I'm honestly shocked it didn't make me sick. The staff was nice when we were leaving, but did not even crack a smile for the rest of our meal. There was a banner displaying a people's choice award they won in 2009. They need to stop clinging to this 6 year old recognition and start improving their prepping and cooking practices. read more

I cannot think of the last time I've felt so strongly compelled by a restaurants low quality and poor food code to write a review. I just killed a cockroach on the counter of the hot food, and if their attention to detail in that regard is any clue to the overall quality of the establishment you should steer clear. Never again! Was shopping at the strip mall where Panda Buffet is located and decided to get some carry out. First, the hostess who took my order was downright sullen and rude. My Moo Shu Pork was so poorly boxed that the sauce leaked out from the carry-out container into the bag. The pancakes were like cardboard -- not even edible -- I've never experienced pancakes as horrible as these. How is it possible to ruin pancakes? Surprisingly, though, the moo shu pork itself was somewhat tasty, although bits of meat were red in color, not because they were raw, but because they must have been cooked in some kind of odd sauce. Disappointed. We have eaten at this restaurant for YEARS. It's a good selection, food is good and they keep the buffet full. BUT I have to say we were very disappointed today. As we walked in there was a sign hung up at the door that Crab Legs are $3.99 a pound. Fine. It was 12:30 when we sat down and we ordered one pound of the Crab Legs. The waitress went to "check." She came back and said because it is NOON they are $10.99 a pound!!!! WHAT?!! Where is that written? It's not. They didn't want to be bothered so they drove the price up so high we said "forget it." This place is okay at best. The food was fine, nothing special, but the price was amazing. Such a great bargain! Crab legs ARE extra, but that's understandable when the dinner buffet only costs ten bucks. All in all, would visit here again when I have a craving for quick, close, generic Chinese food. read more

I have no clue why this restaurant is getting bad reviews? I have been coming here for many years and have always found the buffet to be fresh and consistent. My favorite dishes are Shrimp and Onion, Salt and Pepper Medley, Chicken Wings, Ribs, etc etc. Don't let the negative reviews stop you from trying this restaurant and making up your own mind. read more

Food is good, price is great but the rice on the sushi was literally dried from sitting out.

This place used to be decent but the past few times have really sucked. Food wasn't very warm, they hardly had any sushi out, and just the overall cleanliness has really gone downhill. I do not recommend coming here. read more

I have lived in the same house for 45 years. I have tried almost all of the areas oriental restaurants. I have been in Bradenton long before the Panda Buffet even opened! I decided to give it a try. I ordered my favorite - the large pork fried rice (to go). I paid for my order ($7 & change), she told me it would be about 15 min. & then she left. A kitchen helper came out a gave me my order & threw away the receipt. He went back towards the kitchen. I proceeded to go home. When I got home, I didn't feel like eating, so I put the container in the fridge. I opened the container, for my late night dinner, around 11:00 pm, the next evening. It was a BRIGHT CANARY YELLOW. I eat fried rice ALL the time (usually make my own). So, I put some of it on a plate & heated it up. I ate one spoonful - that was all. It was DISGUSTING! It not only was greasy but mushy, tasteless & the peas & carrots were still almost raw. By then, I was extremely aggravated. I put the container back into the fridge & went to bed, as it was very late. I brought the rice back, to the Panda, the next day, minus the one spoonful. The girl that originally rang my order up was there & I told her the problem. She denied & said she has been on vacation for 1 week & just got back that day. I never forget a face - she was lying. She then looked over to an older man standing there & he came over. I explained the issue & asked for my money back. Before I knew it, I was surrounded by (I assume) other family members & servers. The man started 3rd degreeing me & became very rude, hostel & insulting, plus I became verbally bombarded by the rest of the people surrounding me. At that point, I became afraid for my safety so I grabbed the container of rice & left. There was a father & daughter going out in front of me, he turned around & said that isn't the only food that was terrible & that they will never come back to eat there. This place is old and in need of a face lift. You could tell the food had been sitting under the lamps for a while and it wasn't even hot. I had one bite of lo mein and garlic shrimp both were hard and cold. My kids both said the same about their food. The fruit that is hard and not ripe and all of the desserts are stale. So I called ahead of time, asking if snow crab legs were on the buffet, to which they replied yes, every day at dinner only. We also checked their website. The web site mentioned EXTRA crab legs are 4.99, and 7.99 if you are taking with you. So me, my sis and niece went. It's a lot smaller than the buffets I'm used to up north. So I asked about the crab legs. No, they are not part of the buffet. And contrary to what their web site says, to order in its 7.99/lb and 13.99 take out. I mentioned the website prices but I guess they don't care about false advertising (or perhaps it's the old "bait and switch tactic"). The food was ok, nothing spectacular, but be forewarned, there's no clams of any type, and no hibachi type food, and the majority of the food was salad type dishes. We went when lunch was changing over to dinner and nothing was added to the buffet that made the price increase justified. read more

We have eaten here multiple times over the last year. My issue with Panda Buffet is lack of consistency in quality. Some days, all goes fairly well (food tastes fresh). But, when it goes bad, it's REALLY bad. Yesterday, I had to spit food into my napkin multiple times because it was inedible. I tried 4 chicken-based dishes, and the chicken in each was so hard and dry that I felt compelled to expel. My husband had to spit out the roast duck. The boiled shrimp wasn't optimally fresh, but at least edible. However, the raw oyster I tried was immediately ejected--obviously alarmingly unfresh. I have difficulty enjoying a meal where every time I eat a bite I feel as though I'm playing the dining equivalent of Russian Roulette. On a more positive note--at least they offer enough variety to enable one to still piece together a meal. I ultimately dined on slices of watermelon, kiwi, bananas, and oranges, which were all fresh and delicious. read more

If I could give a minus star rating I would. Don't waste your time here unless you just want to eat a huge amount of tasteless food. This would be a great place to take little kids who don't care what they eat. The waitresses were disinterested at best and never smile. All they do is clear dishes and refresh drinks. Although they had a good selection of food, we felt that the quality of food was sub-par to other Chinese resturants in the area that we have patronized. This place has been getting some bad reviews on this web site. We have eaten here once or twice each year for years and couldn't believe it had slipped so much so we decided to try it to day to see for our selves. Its still the very best in Bradenton & Sarasota or south of Tampa, We haven't been north of here. Yes the girl servers don't smile much or talk to you if you don't ask them any thing, but they will answer you very politely. Do you go to look and talk to the staff or for the food. The food was the same kind of stuff that other chines places serve only a better selection some that ive never had at any other place. The place was very clean something you don't see at a lot of buffets, all dishes were hot and being filed up all the time. We went at 2 o'clock kind of a bad time in between meals, but we still found every thing perfect For the money its the best deal in the area.
