I've eaten here 3 different times, ordering food through the drive-thru. I work 10 mins away, and when I have a craving for orange chicken this place never fails to provide. The one thing I find wacky and just odd is their the placement of their drive-thru speaker. It's one of the worst I've ever encountered. You'll have to check it out to know what I mean. After a long day at the San Diego County Fair followed by some shopping, we decided to grab some Panda and head back to our Airbnb. This place was super busy at the drive-thru, so we expected a little bit of a wait as we entered the lobby. The employees were friendly and fast. A few of the food options were out and more was being prepped so they took down our order by writing their coded language on our food containers and had us pay first and wait for our food. The manager was nice enough to even stop over and ask us if we wanted some drinks while we waited. We declined but it was so thoughtful of her to ask. There were a few people eating in the restaurant and the atmosphere was pretty cool. After a few minutes we had our food and were heading out the door. Very efficient store. Busy location on Monday night. Most people took their food to go I think. There was a long line in the drive through but it went fast. They were running out of dishes and were trying to crank dishes out as fast as possible. There was a small wait for the food as they made fresh batch. The good part about a busy location is that everything is super fresh! Newer building with clean designs. Pandas food isn't cutting it anymore. Their prices keep going up and the quality is going down. We recently stopped to grab a bite to eat. When we returned home to eat, the Fried rice was burnt in some areas and in other areas the rice was still raw and crunchy. They advertise on their receipt to contact their customer service to "let them know" how they're doing so I filled out the online form. Their customer service at their corporate office is just as bad as their food. They never responded to my complaint after numerous attempts. Not feeling like cooking so I stopped in for some Panda Express....I like their string bean chicken and chow mein. I ordered two plates (drive thru). I was happy there wasn't a line which is usually the case....only took a few minutes to get my food. Food was pretty good....something changed with the chow mein...it was not as flavorful as it used to be but still good. I just added some shiracha and soy sauce and it was good. Our go tos are string bean chicken, teriyaki chicken, Beijing beef, Kung Pao chicken, and orange chicken. Their mushroom chicken is hit and miss. The zucchini is sometimes too mushy. They switched their veggies to super greens. Which is ok but they keep the stems on their kale when they steam it. Which wouldn't be too bad if they steamed it for a little longer. Sorry, I've had too many questionable/greasy fast-Chinese meals ( like the time I was eating chow mein at a local place and found a dead cockroach at the bottom of my noodles). Sometimes corporate is better especially when you don't want to get sick the next day. Try finding healthy looking vegetables at a local place. At Panda Express their Broccoli and Zucchini looked fresh and it was light not overly oily. Tip - Subbing out vegetables for Chow mein and Rice saves you over 400 calories. This location had an issue receiving my mobile order but I showed the window attendant my email and time-stamp and he remedied straight away and just walked my order out to my car. I feel like I only go to specific Panda Express locations because I know that they're consistent with the texture of their food. We had finished running errands tonight at about 9:59pm and said to ourselves that we were bummed we wouldn't make it to the Panda Express location adjacent to the Von's gas station. When I used to live in Poway, I knew their location was always open later. We hit Google maps and checked for a late night location nearby in Escondido. The location at 400 Mission was open until 10:30pm and we arrived at about 9:05pm. We parked the car to enjoy our meal as we had not eaten since lunch time. I took one bite of the orange chicken and I got that ick feeling immediately- soggy, slimy, soft. I mean who doesn't want their chicken to be nice and crisp! It definitely was not what we were looking for. I moved on to the honey walnut shrimp... even worse. You know how when the batter hasn't been cooked and it looks like mashed potatoes? As I was attempting to get rid of my ick by eating a bite of the honey walnut shrimp, I saw this. I hate to be someone who complains, but the slimy soggy texture of the food was an enormous turnoff. I walked up to the door as it was locked and knocked and presented my meal to someone. She took it inside and a few minutes later came out asking if I wanted something else as a replacement. Well, yeah, I did. I asked for Beijing Beef initially and told that was not an option. I just said I wanted double orange chicken because at that point I had no more options. I was returned with dual orange chicken and $1.25 refund for the difference. My boyfriend in the car said "How do you know its not cooked fully? Because this looks like mashed potatoes." I take his plate back up to do the same process all over again. At 9:15pm this is not exactly what I want to be doing or how I want to be ending my day. She took the plate back again and they pulled a few pieces of the shrimp out before giving up and just putting his second order of teriyaki chicken on the side. We did not get refunded for the other $1.25 difference upcharge for honey walnut. Maybe because they left "2 shrimp" on the plate. I walked back to the care and said to my boyfriend "At this point I do not even care about the $1.25, I would just like to eat." I inspected the orange chicken, ate about 2 pieces before I hit another slimy soggy piece. And at this point, I was done. I was simply done. How hard is it? To fully or properly cook the orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp so I don't feel like I am chewing on raw pancake batter. I do not ever want to visit this Panda Express location. I did not even eat my meal, I was so turned off and had the ick, appetite gone and felt like we just threw money in the trash. I will only be visiting our regular Panda Express near the Von's gas station and the one near my job in Escondido. Truly the most subpar food preparation I have ever seen from Panda Express. read more
