Major side note: Rating is for American Chinese food. If this were compared to, let's say, the local Cantonese and Szechuan spots, it would be closer to a 3. Anyway, I've gotten takeout from here twice. It's very old-school inside, and the people are to the point, but hey, it's an AMCA spot. The first time was a good while back, and I got one of their lunch specials. It was either L14, or Beef with Chinese Vegetables, or L40/Shredded Beef With Hot Spicy Sauce, which are both $11, but I am pretty positive it was the letter dish. The dishes come with a choice of rice between white, brown, or pork fried, and either a soda, spring roll, or a choice of soup. I went with the fried rice, because it's a Chinese-American spot, and the Hot & Sour. This stuff was packaged properly, and the soup was pretty good. It was better than the usual takeout as there were more toppings, and it was less gloopy. Obviously, the nearby Szechuan spots, such as Grand or Plenty, have a better and more authentic version, but this was still tasty, and especially for this type of place. The shredded beef was surprisingly tender, though it lacked the listed heat. The mix of vegetables, ranging from scallions to onions to greens, was crunchy and seemed pretty fresh. I would say that the fried rice was only alright, but at least it wasn't oily. For the price point, and since it's Midtown East, it was honestly satisfying. The second time, I went with Small House Special Chow Fun. The menu lists it as $10.50, but she listed it as $12 and as a lunch special, which is a bit odd. The chow fun was fine. I prefer a bit more wok hei, and some of the noodles clumped together a bit more than I would like, but they were tender. In terms of the toppings, I liked the shrimp the most as they were bouncy and contrasted the noodle texture. The pork wasn't bad, while the chicken was almost abnormally soft. I also liked the added mushrooms and other veggies. It was overall pretty good. While I preferred my first meal here, the second one wasn't bad. I prefer other places as I typically don't get this type of food, but it gets the job done, and the price is right. read more

My favorite go-to when I want my favorite dishes from Lin's Gourmet. Fresh and flavorful dishes. SERVICE IS EXCELLENT-CARING AND HELPFUL. Some of my favs are: House special lo mein House special soup with chicken, shrimp, and pork and vegetables Cold noodles with sesame sauce Singapore chow mei fun Broccoli with garlic sauce and rice String beans with garlic sauce and rice Wonton soup Wonton/egg drop mixed soup And from the healthy diet, steamed dishes -sauce on the side, if necessary, I like the house special, which has steamed chicken, shrimp, pork, and mixed vegetables rice on the side I often call in my order and then walk in and pick it up. I've been ordering from Lin's for almost 4 years, ever since I moved into my current home. I've never had a meal that wasn't great. Every delivery has arrived hot, fresh, and delicious. My only criticism would be that I wish they stayed open a little later than they do. 9:00pm during the week just seems early for a restaurant to be closing in NYC. I'd probably order from them twice as much as I do if they just stayed open an extra hour at night. But I could never fault their food. read more

Good amount of protein between chicken, pork, and shrimp. The combination dish was ok. Not a whole lot of flavor in the chicken. Pork Fried rice average. Unfortunately, a subpar egg roll. We have been ordering regularly from Lin's for takeout after recently moving into Sutton place. After our 3rd call in, they knew our order over the phone and greeted me warmly when I came to pick up. My fiancé is picky about his Chinese takeout, and prefers Lin's over several others in Sutton/UES. We typically order general tso's, chicken lo mein, and chicken and broccoli. Don't take this 4 star rating lightly, this is an excellent chinese restaurant for all your takeout needs. No its not going out to flushing or getting one of the bst chinese restaurants in the city, but thats completely fine. For me i want a good wonton egg drop mix soup, got it, had an excellent chow fun as well. Noodles were fresh and the pork, shrimp and chicken in it were good too. You're getting one of, if not the best chinese take out in midtown east with Lins gourmet. If theres a better, more reliable one that has all the classics, please let me know because I haven't found it. Absolutely hit the spot on Christmas for us and I look forward to ordering again. For around 7 bucks you can get pork fried rice, your choice from their specials (ie. chicken and brocolli, general tsao) and a can of soda or soup. Get the hot and sour soup, it's the real deal. This soups got heaping amounts of tofu and other yummy goodies. Their fried chicken wings are awesome too. Fulfilling your chicken craving at a Chinese joint may not be your first choice. But if you're ordering from Lin's, do give their chicken wings a whirl. You may or may not be a fan of this place. It's NY after all, we've got lots of options here. But like I've said before, I'm comparing this place to what I've had in Va. Which is less than mediocre Chinese fast food. I just didn't know it at that time. I did order a few items and ultimately it took a while (an hour) to get my food, but it was really good! 1. Beef with broccoli combo: For $9, this came with a half tray of this entree with pork fried rice (you can get white or brown rice too), and a soup (hot and sour is what I got). This is a great deal! 2. Dumplings (8): I got the boiled, and it was decent. It came with dumpling sauce. Actually the only reason I got this was because there was a $10 delivery minimum not including tip. However, I was glad I got it, because it complemented the meal well.
