Luckily, we saw that this store was open for 30 more minutes, and we walked across the street from our hotel the moment we parked. I was prepared for them to tell us they wouldn't be able to do the family meal for us since they were closing soon, but they quickly cooked us fresh food for it without any judgement or attitude. One of the few restaurants in South Lake Tahoe open Monday. Used to be only 3 Chinese restaurants in SLT: Mandarin Gardens, Jade Gardens, and Hunan Gardens, all at least 2.5 miles from my timeshare in SLT. Then in 2019 a new shopping center anchored by Whole Foods opened up. Inside was Panda Express. Had to wait 15 minutes for them to cook a new batch of sizzling shrimp as it is a popular dish, and they often run out, and won't cook a new batch until somebody orders it. 5 minute walk back to eat the meal at our timeshare. Didn't know that you could split the main course of chow mein with steamed veggies. $11.40 for a three entrees with chow mein, plus a $1.25 surcharge for sizzling shrimp. The vegetable chow mein was tasty, not at all spicy, but not too bland either. The Beijing beef was dried up from sitting out too long, and had very little bbq flavor. More of a tangy taste. The kung pao chicken was only a bit spicy, but tasty, and not overwhelmed with vegetables as filler. The broccoli beef was juicy, with tender beef and soft broccoli just the way I like it. The sizzling shrimp came with six shrimp and plenty of veggies as filler. Mildly spicy with a citrus tang to it. Not too dried up, and not overcooked, a welcome addition to Panda Express. Not authentic Chinese food, but it will do in a place with few Chinese residents, as plenty of Chinese tourists gambling in the casinos down the road. Got food poisoning here a few years ago but decided to try it again since it had been awhile and I generally love Panda. My husband and I essentially got the same order except for his, he got teriyaki chicken and I got honey sesame chicken. Never had it before but while I was eating it something did taste off about the chicken. The next day, I woke up to one of the most intense stomach cramps of my life. I caveat that statement as I usually top my choices with teriyaki chicken breast, a good value. I skip the drink and the tired spring rolls and dumplings. I came here because the location was in walking distance from where I was staying and it was the least of the evils. We ordered the three item plate and chose noodles and some veggies for the base, black pepper angus steak, broccoli beef, and orange chicken. The angus steak had an extra surcharge, but it was my favorite out of three entrees so it was definitely worth it. The meat was tender and tasty. The broccoli beef was decent and the orange chicken was flavorful, but full of breading and not much chicken. The staff was really nice and friendly! The lady that helped me provided great customer service and others were polite as well. For the orange chicken, she offered to give me some that was freshly made instead of scooping from the tray that had been sitting there for awhile. Overall, the 3 item meal was decent to eat and plenty for two. I went on a Saturday evening and there were not a lot of choices available, especially not many vegetarian choices. For starters the chow main was raw when you bite it it felt so hard, I pinched it it was still white In the middle. Also the rice was also uncooked you could still feel the rice like if it was raw. I went and told the lady that was cashiering and she asked if I wanted more and I told her no that we are just going to leave and she just said okay thank you for letting us know. They didn't do anything and they also didn't bring a manager or nothing they kept on serving the same uncooked chow main. Never going back.
