We came here based on the recommendation of hotel staff and they really met our taste buds! I wonder why they don't have higher reviews. I'm a regular visitor of Tahoe and though there are many Japanese restaurants here, this 1 tops our list so far. I loved the agedashi tofu so much I ordered seconds!

Table for 10! We opted to get Japanese food after a morning full of adventure. There was a small but mighty staff so service was as expected. It allowed up to talk about our morning experience and helped work our appetite! I didn't capture all the food, but we enjoyed four different sushi rolls, chicken and steak dinner combo plates and the kids had chicken teri & tempura plates. When we saw the tempura kids meals, I think that could pass for a satisfying meal for an adult as well at a fraction of the cost. The tempura had a good assortment of nice lightly battered variety of veggies and shrimp.

A Heavenly Contrast: Fried Banana Vanilla Ice Cream Delight in South Lake Tahoe If you're in Tahoe and craving a dessert that delivers on both flavor and texture, look no further than the fried banana. This treat is a warm, deep-fried banana--crispy and golden on the outside, irresistibly soft and gooey on the inside. What truly elevates it is the brilliant contrast of temperatures: the warm banana is nestled between scoops of cold vanilla ice cream, then topped with a rich drizzle of hot fudge.

On their specials. They had Sea Trout and Chu Toro. They both tasted like they were previously frozen. I also had the Tako Sunomono, which lacked flavor. The service from Makaturo was....uhm....OK at best

So we tried it out the first night of our stay. It's a Hawaiian restaurant, and while we don't eat sushi, we always find great options at places like this. We had a great outdoor table, and the weather was perfect. Their signature cocktail is the Mai-Tai, so we ordered a couple, and they were perfect. I had the halibut, and my wife, a vegetarian, had the tofu steak with garden vegetables. My wife loved her entree, and I think this was the best halibut I've ever had. The cheesecake dessert was also fantastic. Beyond the great food, we had excellent service, too. Overall, a great experience, and we plan on going back every time we are in South Lake.

But I did pull a few prices from their reg dinner menu I had while I was there. The reg price for the fries I believe are for normal fries, so the garlic ones may have been a lil more. HH is in the lounge / bar area only, so we grabbed two seats at the bar. It wasn't very busy when we got here. HH cocktails were nice and strong, so definitely up my alley. Typically I find mai tais and margaritas a too sweet for my liking, but these were not. Food wise, I enjoyed the soup and salad. I did ask for the blue cheese on the side for the wedge so I could share with the hubby, but he said I could have all of it, so we didn't say anything. He doesn't like stinky cheeses and I adore a good salad. I chowder was creamy and comforting. The bartender was very sweet. He was the only one fulfilling drink orders, so beverages could take some time. But just pretend it's island time and all is good. Plus, we weren't in a rush or anything. Great spot for HH. You can get your drink on for a decent price. REVIEW #4051

The management changes of past years has brought back pros who have lived and immersed in Japan and Korea, and bring a sparkling authenticity to a place that had sometimes lost its way past decade. Weekend nights can be well jammed with ethnic Asian tourist ski families and globally experienced friends that know the real thing. Fresh gorgeous sushi, (and some great teriyaki chicken and beef for those who aren't into fish). Cold Japanese beers... cucumber salad, Bibimbap, tempura... just awesome. Unlike most places in this region, the parking is free and expansive amidst the mini mall in a forest.

More Umami Needed!…read more SHORT Ver: Most selections lack flavor to true authentic originals. Service was friendly and adequate, hence my giving 2 I am Asian who has lived over 50 years in Hawaii and have eaten authentic Asian cuisine from around the Pacific and Asia so I'm qualified to make this statement! LONG Version: In heavily populated Asian communities,if we see a particular race eating at that races' restaurant, it's generally a signal that the food there is gonna be good! Makes sense, right? While visiting Tahoe today my family had a craving for sushi and based on the rating for Harumi Sushi (as of 6/26' is is 3.9 Stars) we decided to go for dinner. Walking in, we were met with friendly staff and Japanese chefs behind the sushi counter! (Good sign!) their menu is mostly Japanese with some Korean dishes. I was also pleasantly surprised that there were a lot of Asian families also seated but I wasn't sure if that was a good gauge as I suspected that these families were all probably like ours-visiting from outside of the area. I crossed my fingers. We ordered various sushi rolls, a Tonkotsu Ramen, Tempura Udon, Pork Tonkatsu, and a Dotsolbop. Kitchen help must've been short staffed because each dish came out singly with minutes in between the next single dish and by the time the last dish came out, the first few people had already been long finished. First: Tonkotsu Ramen soup broth was completely tasteless. I have packaged Tonkotsu Ramen from my Asian store in Vegas that has much more flavor and body that the one I had. The noodles were simply noodles, the egg was not ajitama. It was simply a half boiled egg. The rest of the dish was not appealing nor tasty at all. Even the charsiu tasted old if not just pan fried for presentation! I could not finish it. The Tempura with the udon was adequate for an AYCE Japanese style buffet so, 'mid' as my kids would say. The udon, I was told wasn't bad, I guess I should've order the Shoyu Ramen instead. The Tonkatsu also fared better in taste rating than my ramen. The Dot Sol Bop came after everyone was finished eating. It had chopped lettuce on it among a couple other non traditional looking veggies. There was very little meat in it. After adding the kochujang sauce and tasting, it was the strangest version of this dish I have ever tasted. The vinegar flavor coming from each bite was so overwhelming. We didn't know if it came from the rice mixture or from the kochujang sauce. Not even half of this dish was eaten. And this was with half the group sampling it. No one wanted to finish this dish. The sushi rolls looked like they were a little on the old side however all said the sushi was pretty good. Not amazing, but adequate. Mid range quality ingredients. My conclusion is that the quality of the ingredients is in need of some improvements. The sushi chefs are getting the job done with what they have. The cooked dishes, however, need to be reexamined If you truly know what Asian cuisine is because you've grown up with it and/or have experienced it, you will walk away disappointed especially if you order a non-sushi entree. The staff were nice though!

We started with the garlic bread and smoked Gouda fried polenta. The garlic bread was perfectly toasted, and the smoked gouda fried polenta was a fun dish to try as it consisted of multiple nice flavors. Our entrees consisted of the fettuccine Alfredo and veal saltimbocca. The fettuccine was genuinely delicious, with my partner saying it's among the best she's had. The saltimbocca was dressed with a wine reduction that paired really well with the intense flavors of the prosciutto and veal. It was decent but not super amazing. 3.5/5 baby arugula salad, but swapped out for mixed greens. Reasonable portion, balsamic was tangy. The burrata was plentiful but a bit tasteless. Strawberries were sweet, and candied walnuts were hard to find but the presentation was good. 4/5 Carbonara with pancetta. Others in our group ordered with add-on chicken & salmon but I had as is. The chicken was a bit dry for my liking but the carbonara was very tasty with the pancetta. Added fresh ground pepper and parmesan and red chili flakes. The noodles were a bit thicker than I anticipated and it held the flavor well. 3/5 ravioli with chicken for the hubs. Chicken was a bit chewy, he wasn't crazy about the ravioli 4/5 special of the night was a Sole fish dish with angel hair. Sol was pretty crispy and tasty, the angel hair was okay - a bit wet which was interesting. 5/5 Service was excellent, Ricky was attentive and prompt & had great knowledge of the dishes. The vibe of the restaurant was dim and solemn. It was decent but nothing I'd crave or go out of my way to get again if I was in the area.
