Panda Express in Valparaiso has some ill-suited servers. Today, for the first time in my life I had to tell this Asian young man (I am Asian too) to give me a larger portion. I said he was stingy. I think, he was thinking just about money. This is the second time he has served me with a bad attitude. Last time, he lumped everything (rice, super greens and mushroom chicken) in one bowl. I did not like it. So today I asked him to put the super greens in a separate container. He put a tiny portion in a tiny container. When I pointed out that the portions he put in the bowl (chow mein and mushroom chicken) were too little, he pointed out that this was because the super greens were in a separate container. He then proceeded to serve me more chow mein -- not chicken mushroom -- probably because chow mein is cheaper. Imagine the mindset. Should he be working in the food serving business? NO, not at all. He should be working in a bank. When you offer food to a person, even in a restaurant, you should do it with grace , courtesy and respect. It was difficult for me to enjoy today's meal and I may never return to Panda Express! read more

The use of AI in the drive through was shocking and unnecessary. The AI voice interrupted and cut me off in the middle of the order. If people want to order with technology they can order online. Going though the drive through does not require AI, it would have been faster had a person taken my order. read more

The drive thru person is always rushing you to get through, whatever no big deal. The lady today, though was next level rude. When I didn't answer what size I wanted fast enough, she shouted the 3 options at me again. I sat there in silence for a minute and decided Nevermind. I know it's the holidays and people are stressed, but that was just next level rude. No one is perfect, and we all have bad days, but being courteous is the bare minimum we should expect in a service job. read more

I have been here several times recently and overall the service has been quick and correct. The food is always warm but the hotness of it can vary. The orange chicken in particular I have noticed can be milder one day and hotter the next so it's a gamble every time you buy it. Pretty good food. Not my first pick for Chinese, but in a pinch, it will do. I like more choices. Their sides are limited. If you order a plate, they give you more side than main course which is kind of a rip off. I have gotten their orange chicken which is perfectly crispy on the outside and tenderly cooked inside. I had their lo mein noodles and wished I hadn't. The rice is pretty plain. I do really like their egg rolls though, crunchy outside with a mix of meat and vegetables inside. I don't understand what has happened. The white rice was very very hard. But the greenbean chicken didn't cook right. I had to get my dad to tell me if it was edible and he stated that it was overcooked and contained way too much sauce. Then when I tasted the chicken and mushrooms, it tasted very weird and off. Staff was friendly, but something about the chef bothers me..... Maybe the taste values differ but it looks like it was hard to enjoy it. I wasnt alone on this.. This is the first time in a while that I have gone into a restaurant and received the service that got at this location. The manager was very engaged with his team and the customer. He walked around and asked everyone if everything was okay. This is a great example of leadership and how an establishment is supposed to be managed. The team worked together and there were no more than two people in line at the same time. Other branches can definitely learn from this group. read more

Every time I order teriyaki chicken, and never get the teriyaki sauce even when I ask for it. I end up having to go inside, ask again for the sauce. I seems this is intentional. Do they instruct the window drive up person to never give the teriyaki sauce because by the time the order gets home it is too late. read more

Thanks to Panda Express not opening the dining room for weeks past when they were allowed. I found some other awsome places to eat in the area that will let us eat inside. I used to eat here twice a week while traveling for my husband's job. Panda Express is one of our favorite restaurants. This was the first time we have eaten at this one. We ordered 6 entrees for take out and were very surprised at the small portions. Two of us ordered the Shanghai Angus Beef dish and each bowl had only 3 pieces of beef. The other 4 dishes were not as skimpy but much more rice than the ordered items. Went threw the drive thru today at about 9pm, the girl working the drive thru seemed very pushy and inpatient... not the usual friendly service that I have experienced at many different locations...the reason for the low rating was based on this experience alone, because I ordered teriyaki chicken and there was no sauce on it or even on the side...she obviously didn't care, but I do! Usually never have a problem & the food is consistent, but this time it wasn't! Will make sure to check my food from now while in the drive thru!! read more

Understood it was a busy night, but we waited for ten minutes with no one else in line, until finally someone was willing to help. Three people were kind of stand around walking back and forth. The only cordial person was the young lady who served us and apologized for the wait. The manager was rude and ignored us outright, and tbh thankfully we're moving soon so we can find a new Panda. Not the first time this has happened either. Said that we had to wait on food because there were people ahead of us...probably wouldn't have been ahead of us if they had just taken our order. When the food was finally made the manager ignored our order again to scoop it for the people behind us in line before going back to drive through orders. I frequent the Panda Express chain a couple times a month so I know which ones to eat at. This one is NOT one of them. I have tried this one 3 times and they just never have food ready and then you have to wait. So they say they will bring it out, then they forget about you even after writing the order down. Seriously there were only 8 cars in the lot at 12noon. We walk in and are welcomed by no mixed veggies, no chow mein and numerous entrees were empty also. I would expect it to happen a bit later or if they had steady drive thru traffic but that wasnt the case. The Michigan City Panda needs help! Very understaffed, needs a girl who can speak English running the cash register, and needs fresh food on the buffet. Bad experience with dried up food on buffet. Manager assured me they would make fresh. 15 min. later still don't have food. Well, 5 min. later we get food but the cashier girl filled up our trays with the old food from the buffet. Couldn't eat it since it was so dried out. Asked for money back and we went to Wendy's. Hurray for Wendy's! If you want good Panda food, go to the one in Valparaiso. First off, parking is terrible, I ended up having to park at the hotel down the road and walking over there. The line was out the door, but went pretty quick. I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice . The fried rice was very bland. I ended up having to put soy sauce on it for flavoring. I also feel thatbyour beverage selection could be better. I do not drink soda and was hoping to get unsweetened iced tea (as most places offer ) , but that was not an option, so I ended up getting bottled water. I believe in second chances, so I will be back in the future to try again, and hopefully have a better experience. read more

Not sure why we keep giving this place chance after chance. For starters, they are always out of everything! This has occurred the last 5 times we have been there and at all hours of the day, so the time doesn't matter. The broccoli beef is lacking in the flavor department, the broccoli is ok ,but the beef is very chewy, flavorless, and often looks white ( unless they overcook it like our most recent visit) . The last time I got the orange chicken , it was very slimy/ chewy. They are also very stingy with their main items, they will try and make up for it with the sides though. Last time we were there , I had to wait 10 more mins for them to cook more Broccoli beef because they ran out ( which was then overdone and had a smokey taste to it) . I ordered a fountain drink, I always get the panda passion tea. To me , it looked like that had not put the container out yet or were making more . I asked one of the employees and she said they don't have it anymore ,which was a huge disappointment because I don't drink pop and the "lemonade" tastes way too artificial to me. I wanted to leave a review with my receipt from our visit, but part of it got wet and I couldn't read the survey #. My fault no theirs, spilled some of that nasty lemonade on it. The employees are pretty nice overall. Just sad that every time we come here, we spend $25-$30 and we are always left disappointed saying we are never coming back. Every single time I come to this Panda Express, it has been a horrible experience. Meat hasn't been done all the way. Order hasn't been correct, etc etc. Last night really iced the cake... I went thru the drive thru to order ONE thing. A plate with orange chicken, beef&broccoli and fried rice. They told me the orange chicken would be a 3-5 min wait and for me to pull into one of the parking spots. I pulled into one of the parking spots and I was waiting in my car for 20 MINUTES! I was angry and went inside (trying to avoid going inside, hence the reason for the drive thru), the two young girls laughed about it and said that they forgot about my order!! The whole experience was so SO rude! They really need to find some good workers there that aren't teenagers, that could do a great job. And the manager (male) didn't even apologize for the any of it! This place is new, so it's pretty busy most of the time. Thus, you might have to wait longer than normal, but once the novelty has worn off, I am sure the service will speed up. That being said, the food is really good. I wish they had more choices, but that's what you get for fast food Chinese. Also, even if it's busy inside, go in to order. The drive thru is a joke. Love Panda Express, but not the Valparaiso location. Went through drive through and ordered a simple bowl (orange chicken with fried rice) and a small drink. Told it would be about 2 minutes for the chicken and asked me to pull around "near the front door" and someone would bring me my food. IMPORTANT to note. This parking lot is small, awkward and there is no designated parking for drive thru waiting like you see at other fast food restaurants. The only two parking spaces open anywhere near the vicinity of the front door were handicapped. I did my best to stay near the front door but basically I was circling the parking lot to get out of the way of other vehicles. After closing in on the 10 minute wait mark I was fed up and went back to the drive thru window. The worker tracked down my food, handed it to me and then walked away from the window. Luckily I checked the bag before driving away. Completely wrong order. Like not even close. Honked a few times to get her attention and off she went to try and find my food. I did eventually get my food. And she threw in a free egg roll, but the food was stone cold. Waste of time and money. read more

I've been in other Panda Expresses and one of the dishes I like is the king pao chicken, I have been eating it at restaurants for years. I have to say this Panda Express had the Kung Pao so spicy I couldn't eat it!! I pulled about 8 peppers just out of my portion(I ordered a bowl) which caused it to be sooo spicy that after two bites my nose ran and my tongue burned so bad I couldn't taste the food! It was awful!!! I threw it away and left, I had to wait for it to be made fresh to begin with because they were busy so I didn't get to approach the management. But someone needs to fill in the cooks that those peppers are hot and you only need a couple!!!! read more

I live in Valparaiso but been to the one in Portage several times so am VERY happy you built here in my town. This was my third visit this Sunday night. After church (6 PM), a group of us "older" folks always go out to eat or snack. Usually we go to Culvers but this time I suggested Panda Express. Eight of us went and sat at your nice long Walnut table in your beautiful store. We all enjoyed the food. For some it was the first time at Panda Express and they really enjoyed the food. One guy said he doesn't care a lot for Chinese food but said it was really good. His wife loves Panda Express so that was a good thing that he enjoyed the meal. Your restaurant is just down the road from our church about a mile or less. Very convenient. Your staff there were very friendly, greeting us as we walked in. I have to say your Portage store's staff are also very friendly but OUR store is much nicer and larger. Besides it being much larger, it has a much better seating arrangement than the Portage store and I would say the décor is "Upgraded" from Portage. As I said, the table we sat at was REAL Walnut wood. Not formica..... Nice touch. Thanks again for opening in Valparaiso.... Might call my wife and get lunch there today...... John read more
