Ladies and gentlemen, I've found my favorite Chinese food spot. Alert the media. This restaurant is in one of those strip malls that never quite made their mark. Very odd little spot next to an Aaron's and some other type of rental store that I will probably never go to in my lifetime. Panda Garden is hidden in the back corner of this mall. Upon entering they have over the top extravagant chandeliers and really cool fish tanks, like Chinese restaurants tend to have oddly enough... They were very friendly when they greeted us and sat us down right away. You're given the Chinese food version of salsa and chips or bread and butter - crispy wonton strips with duck sauce. Heaven. I'm just in heaven here. Also free tea - bottomless. Again, heaven. While browsing through their menu you will see that they probably haven't changed their drink prices since the early '90s. You can get a mai tai or other cocktails for around $4.95! Scorpion bowls were also ridiculously affordable. I ordered the cashew chicken - as it is my go to. We also ordered 1 steamed dumpling order to share. The waitress was very friendly and easy to talk to. She was joking around with the table next to us - quite hospitable. When we got our dumpling order we were very pleased. On the Rachel [pork] dumpling scale (0-10) I gave them an 8. Great stuff. Then I got my cashew chicken which is brown and green but the flavors are great and the chicken is cut up into smaller pieces, which I like. My fiance got the general tso's (going on the diet for a Sunday night) and it was quite good. They consider that a "fancy" dish so it comes with a beautiful flower radish and little lettuce garnish. Well cooked and deep fried - the chicken was tender. I've had their hunan chicken too and if you're not afraid of spice - it's fantastic! Then when we finished up they gave us a $4.00 off coupon (why $4 I have no idea but sure I'll take it - great stuff). The perfect place for Chinese food! It's decked out. Generally great. And. Well. Great! When I entered the area. The flora was great. With 2 aquariums and a waiting seat! Though I doubt you'll need it. The speed of the waiters are great! Immediately. You get crackers and a splendid sauce. I almost got full just eating the crackers they were so good! Then came the egg rolls. Quite good! Especially with the Katsu sauce! It had a spice. But not like "And they call THIS spicy" or "Did I just eat the sun?" It's got quite a kick! And it's addictive! Whenever I step through the doors of a standard, American/Chinese restaurant, I am reminded of the nights my mom had too many papers to grade and my dad would say, "Let's get sweet and sour chicken." The smell of fried chicken and rice. The booths and golden decorations. The happy cat and the fat bellied buddha. This is one of those places. It's is in a strip mall with great lunch deals ($6.75 for soup, app, fried rice, and entree..), and a decent sized dining room. Food comes out quickly, I was there for lunch and my to-go order came out in 10 minutes. Panda Garden.... where to start? It was amazing! I love it so much!! Food taste very fresh. Panda Garden is the best Chinese restaurant in the state of Maine. The atmosphere is nice very open but exclusive at the same time. Its open, but you can eat without feeling like people are staring at you... The staff is very nice and kind going out of there way for my table. They gave us free drinks!! The service is very quick we did not have to wait long at all. We got our food in about 10-20 minutes tops! It didn't even seem like it though because the waiter was engaging. The food is fresh! Its no fake!! I recommend the orange chicken and fried scallop! Use to be not bad. Now very, very bad. Vegetable spring rolls were very salty. Dry noodles, in a bag, tasted like they were fried in rancid oil. We ordered vegetable sub gum chop suey which they do not make. They suggested something similar which turned out to be cooked, tasteless, mostly lettuce. Chicken chow mein was tasteless. Chicken fingers had a nice outside crust, but the chicken inside was as hard as a rock. Teriyaki beef sticks were good. I like fried rice made with eggs. Theirs was made with eggs and was good. Panda Garden is very expensive. We normally do not mind the expense as we make meals out of the left overs the next day. Today, the left overs went in the carbage disposal. read more

I eat at Panda Garden all the time but this week I got 50 dollars worth of food and everyone who ate it got extremely sick. Stomach pains and throwing up. When I called to see if they would refund the order they were extremely rude and said I couldn't prove it was their food. It saddens me to write this, because I have this special little place in my heart for Panda Garden. I used to go there all the time when I was a kid (before music lessons and gymnastics practice.... what a geek). I went back with a friend and it just wasn't as tasty as I remember. Maybe my standards have gone up? Maybe my previous views were just the excitement of going out to eat at the age of 7? Who knows. The wonton soup is great - as is the hot and sour. My meal (ginger chicken) wasn't great, but it is a good deal ($6.75 for lunch with a soup and appetizer of the day) at lunch time. My friend got amazing chicken that wasn't totally amazing... I think when I was little, this was the place to find great Chinese food. Now I'm on a quest to find some better Chinese in Portland... Oh - and $1.75 Shipyard's. Seriously - that's an amazing deal. It was ok. I'd go back but onlt because I just haven't found anything decent since Oriental table closed I got the kung pao. A previos reviewer scared me off the spicey factor but thst was a mistsake for me. Despite visible peppers it was mild. I judge most Chinese of this species (americanized) by their hot and sour soup. We've been going here for years. I enjoy their sesame chicken and my girlfriend likes the beef and broccoli with white rice. The last time I went there the chicken I received was dark tasted odd. My most recent experience left me with a large piece of beef from the beef/broccoli with a hair wrapped around it. I'm not talking just in the dish, but literally wrapped and cooked into the chicken. The wait staff was kind and willing, and despite the general atmosphere needing a minor touch up the food though not neccesarily gourmet, was able to retain an above average taste. Went here with my buddy Alex Runser to help recover after the fourth of July. Little hole in the wall and a gem. Their version of water is unsweetened iced tea, that was the first thing that was dope. Then they had this crap that you dip into duck sauce that they brought out while youre waiting for your meal, ate too much of that shit, but real good. Food took about 1 second to cum out and was delicious af and looked very artsy. Service was great and our waiter didn't bother us by trying to talk. He was always there to refill our drinks about every 30 seconds. The only thing that sucked about this place was the fact that my bill was 5 cents higher than my buddie's and we split the check and that was bull shit. Also, had to add fried rice to the poo-poo plater, wtf!? Overall this was probably the best Chinese food restaurant I've ever ate at. Our neighbors in Pine Point, Cindy and Joel go here all the time and love it! Last summer I went with them without my husband. Food was the best and I am picky and a foodie! This past May, Joe and I went on a rainy dismal day for lunch! Food and service incredible! This past Friday night, all 4 of us went together and it was spectacular. We got 2 separate checks only because Joe and I were taking extra food home. After having 2 very good,strong Mai Tai's. we had everything boxed up as our neighbors did! They came out to bring some leftovers to them but got ready to leave and could not find our bag of great food anywhere! So the manager/owner came over and was so taken aback that he had smaller orders made for us to take home. Long story short, having a buzz , I had put it down by my chair automatically and when getting up panicked when I saw it was right there. Joe said for me to leave it there but I was so embarrassed that I tried to sneak it out and leave it in their foyer! Then went back in to say what a great meal we had and got just a nod and thank you. I told them i would write a review on yelp too. Went to go find Joel, Cindy and my husband 2 minutes later and the bag of food was gone! They must have seen what I did. Anyway, mortified I gave my neighbors money the following day to give to them when they go back to Panda Garden. They are regulars and friendly with the owner. Don't want the owner to wonder what kind of friends they have that would order extra food for free! Next time we go, we will apologize. Love that place from decor to food and service. I had read past reviews and really wanted to go 5 stars...but I can't. The food is okay, not the best Chinese in Portland (as had been described by other reviewers). My main reason for not rating them higher is the price. Panda Garden is more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in the area, so I was expecting the food to be high quality and to get a ton of it. Neither of those things happened. I had watched a documentary on General Tso's chicken and had a hankering so that's what I ordered. I felt like for the $13.95 I spent on it, I would enjoy it more. I'll probably be back though to have a sit down meal at some point since this experience is based on takeout. It's sort of close to my house which gives me more Chinese food options, but I was underwhelmed. read more

We were greeted by a very friendly host and three colorful aquariums that he showed us. After we were seated the host (maybe the owner?) brought me over a free decorated Shirley temple because I had complimented the fish tank!
