    Broccoli with garlic sauce, $19.
    Jules F.

I just don't get it. A month ago I got their garlic broccoli for $19, which seemed outrageous, but I really wanted garlic broccoli so I did it. It was just fine. Nothing special, no huge portions or anything like that. It's now $22. FOR BROCCOLI! It doesn't add up. Sorry guys. Nah.

Ordered delivery service. From when I pressed the button to order till being delivered it's only 20 mnts. Mala shrimp and scallop. Not to spicy for my taste but again I like super duper spicy and usually that's not the style here in portland. Taste great, totally love it. Size is big with white rice on the side. Totally recommended

Honestly I love this restaurant for many reasons. Chinese food is not as rampant around the Portland area as where I grew up in Connecticut, so it's a nice Portland touch. But it's also ALWAYS dead inside. I like this because it's quiet and intimate. On a Friday night when it's impossible to get a seat at a restaurant or make reservations, I can always count on coming here and still having a great meal. It's a beautifully decorated atmosphere and a great place to take people who you actually want to hear talk. The service is also super quick. Our food came out in under 10 minutes both recent times I ate here. The food is all excellent, and the service is always good too. Very attentive waitstaff. My favorite dishes are broccoli and garlic with tofu and their house-made fried rice. Their vegetarian dumplings are super yummy too. I've tried lots of different dishes and appreciate that the veggies are always fresh. Honestly, most people just order takeout from here, but I like the experience of sitting and eating. Their drink menu is great too. There is a ginger cocktail that is to die for. They also have Japanese sodas, and if you've never tried one, you've gotta have a strawberry one. Good luck opening it on your first try :P The oneeeeee thing I dislike is their prices. It's a little expensive for Chinese. That being said, the portions are pretty large so I always have leftovers, and the food definitely is a level up from other greasier and lesser Chinese food establishments. Overall a hidden gem--even a little tough to spot walking by (not that you'd be walking by because it's randomly located on a side street), but I highly recommend a visit.

Good food!!! Everything arrived hot and all my extra requests were honored. I'd totally order from this place in the future!

I ordered takeout and while the food was good, am sorry to say that the prices will probably keep me from eating here often, if at all, in the future. The only reason I ordered from here to begin with was because they serve walnut shrimp, which is one of my favorites and that I haven't found offered in many places around here. I also ordered the veggie lo mein and orange chicken, which came with a side of white rice. The veggie lo mein was good, but nothing to rave about. The orange chicken was most likely the best part of the order- with orange slices and peel in the sauce. The walnut shrimp was a bit disappointing- while there was plenty of jumbo shrimp and walnuts, which I appreciated, the sauce they were in was way too thick and sweeter than necessary. Definitely not worth the $20 they charge for that dish alone. While the food was good, it certainly was not worth the $73.22 I paid. Full disclosure this includes a $5 delivery fee and tip, but even without that it was $60 for three orders. That is outrageous for Chinese food that is not really all that much better than the competition. I will most likely continue going to Empire for my walnut shrimp and other upscale Asian food.

We came in on Saturday night knowing we would have to wait so we went to the bar. They had a special cocktail that night and it was so good I wish I could remember what it was called but you have to try whatever their specialty drink of the night is. Since we had a large party we ordered a lot because everything sounds so good so we did a bunch of Dim Sum and a few mans as well. We went with: Empire Eggrolls Lobster Rangoons Char Siu Baos Spicy Pork Belly Buns Pork Potsticks Shanghai Soup Dumplings Shu Mai Curry Udon Kung Pao Chicken Honestly everything was great but the stand outs for me were the Lobster Rangoons, Char Siu Baos, Pork Potsticks, Curry Udon, and the Kung Pao Chicken. First of Lobster Rangoons I mean how do you not. Portland Maine being Lobster Paradise this just makes sense and is a must try staple here. Just takes your normal Chinese Crab Rangoon to the next level. The Char Siu Baos where the best BBQ Pork Bun I have ever had. I know these can be hit or miss sometimes but Empire it doing it right truly the best I have had. The Pork Potsticks were also great. A top 3 dumpling I have had. I honestly wasn't expecting much but these were amazing. The Curry Udon was kind of a funny story. I said we should try this and my friends like me know it was vegan but for once that didn't bother me. This was great and so full of flavor. Plus you can't go wrong with Udon. Kung Pao Chicken is always my go to and this one takes the cake. The Chicken is lighty battered and so full of flavor. One of the best I have ever had. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything we had at Empire Chinese and I would 100% go back and do it all again. I'll end this review the way we started dinner. Lobsta Goooooonnnnsss!

As a bariatric patient I can't eat too much in one go, so we opted to go with dumplings and drinks, and it was totally the way to go. Drinks: * Strawberry Mojito: sweet, flavorful, and not over powering on the mint. 10/10 from the husband. * Margarita: sour, strong, and they were so wonderful to make it a passion fruit one for me as well. Just a bit small for me. 9/10 Food: * Shanghai soup dumplings: soft and flavorful. Full of filling, but lacking in soup base so it didn't really hit the spot. 7/10 * Steamed pork dumplings: large and in charge! The rice wrapper was a lovely texture but too delicate, resulting in completely falling apart. 8/10 * Garlic bok choy: Converted my husband to actually enjoying bok choy instead of questioning it at every turn. Only wishing it was more garlic forward! 8/10 Go to Empire Chinese Kitchen for a lovely evening out for food or drink! You won't be disappointed.

What could be better than a dumpling lounge? We just went for the first time and were blown away. The ambiance of the place is unique. It feels like a chic timeless but retro speakeasy with the fun atmosphere of a tiki bar. Dark red and black colors, floral art, Art Deco chandeliers, lacquered tables, kitsch and fun cheetah lamps and statues. It immediately put a smile on our faces. The food is also unique. Dim sum for dinner but with more sophisticated twists and better quality than you'll find in most Chinatowns. You start by getting a dish with three different dipping sauces for the dumplings. The hot and sour soup was rich in peanut flavor, filled with tofu, mushrooms, and seaweed, with a cumulative little kick of spiciness. It was a great start and a major cut above anything we've ever had in a Chinese restaurant. The sichuan cucumber salad are Chinese cucumbers innovatively cut into a spiral like a slinky or coil spring. You pick them up with chopsticks and they spring up and down! Served in a horseradish and pepper coulis, they had a spicy kick. Don't miss the mojo baby corn. It's grilled, crispy, and addictive. You'll want a bucket of it when watching a movie. Steamed soup dumplings are filled with ham or prosciutto, a nicely salty and meaty twist on the standard ones. Steamed mushroom and truffle dumplings are probably the closest to traditional dim sum, rich, flavorful, and packed with shrooms. Crab and lobster lucky bags were deep fried wontons filled with a mix of ground lobster and crab, on a bed of crème fraiche with scallions. A great contrast with the crispy salty shell and soft filling! Our favorite was the sesame beef bao. They look like the traditional sesame balls in Chinese restaurants, crispy on the outside, pillowy soft inside but filled with brisket! They were mouth wateringly delicious! There was a selection of larger entrée plates that looked good (fried rice, lo mein, crispy chicken) that we didn't try but will next time. The drink menu was three pages long. Every kind of creative cocktail you can imagine, a long list of wines and sparking drinks, at prices from reasonable to 'special occasion.' For the atmosphere and ambiance, it seemed like cocktails or sparkling wine went best. All the staff and the manager couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming. They made us feel like old friends. Their warmth was genuine, we were sincerely touched by their friendliness. We were smiling and laughing the whole time, and amazed at how delicious the food was. It's unique. It's so much more than just a delicious meal. Going here is truly an experience, one that we'll remember for a long time and want to repeat often. It's an incredibly special place, and you feel special being here. You won't find a place like this outside of New York City, but here it is in Portland. We're going to go back often and regularly.

I wouldn't recommend Lucky Cheetah…read more The aesthetics, atmosphere, and cocktails were all great, and I can see why the place is popular. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the positives. The moment I walked in, I was asked if I had a reservation, which is perfectly normal. When I said no, the host gave me a look that felt very much like, "How dare you?" before telling me I was lucky they had one spot left at the bar. Oddly enough, the bar appeared mostly empty, but whatever. I was seated in what felt like the worst seat possible--tucked into a corner right next to the POS station, where servers were constantly moving back and forth picking up drinks. It wasn't exactly a comfortable or relaxing place to sit. The bartender was pleasant enough, but the overall vibe remained off the entire time. I felt less like a paying customer and more like someone they were reluctantly doing a favor for by allowing me to be there. I ordered the lobster and crab rangoon bags, which had a nice texture but were overwhelmingly salty. As soon as I placed my appetizer order, the menu was taken away, which made me feel rushed and unwelcome. The bartender also didn't check in much throughout the meal. It's a beautiful space with good drinks, but hospitality matters. Unfortunately, I left feeling unwelcome from start to finish, and I wouldn't return.
