We go here at least once a month and have for years. It is not a fancy place outside or inside but don't be fooled. It has been around for decades. We always get what we call the "meal deal". It includes soup and the main course and of course ends with the fortune cookie. We always start with the crab ragoon and it is delicious. They have call ahead takeout or you can eat in. I never thought I'd find a Chinese restaurant that served fat and thick egg rolls like the ones I had at La Chinita on Goliad but I did here at Panda Inn across from the Fort Sam Cemetery. The fried rice is good too and the sweet and sour chicken they serve for one is enough to take some leftovers home for a quick lunch or a last minute supper. The food here is a bit cheaper than my all time favorite place for Chinese, Hung Fong. I think I'm gonna start coming here to Panda Inn more often since they hook it up here. read more

Have been wanting to try this place for years. Tried to have lunch with a co-worker recently, but were told it is take-out only for lunch. Apparently, the restaurant is only open for dinner if you want to dine inside. I didn't see that information posted anywhere. We went somewhere else for lunch instead. Listen, you go to Panda Inn for one thing and one thing only - you want an absolute MOUNTAIN of classic Chinese food, and you want it quick! I agree with some other reviews that the grease can feel a bit piled up, but again, this is American Chinese food...that's kind of the point! Our server each time we ordered had the food out in the time he took to blink, and the portions were out of control. Definitely the kind of place you go when you've got $15 and need to make it last. The inside is clean, but quite dimly lit, in case you have trouble seeing in darker spaces might want to be prepared to have a phone flashlight to check out the menu. All in all, this satisfies the exact craving we all have from time to time (and from the amount of takeout orders I witnessed during my dinner, a LOT of people satisfy that craving here) and an easy place to recommend to others! read more

Ok I was looking for orange chicken and decided to give Panda Inn a try. The place it self looked nice and clean from the inside, that was a plus for my 20 minute drive there. They do give you a ton of food. However it all tastes as if it was drenched and sitting in grease The flavor of orange chicken for me was just not there. The fried rice was terrible. The egg roll was huge but again ..drenched in grease. Should of just went with my first option of PF Chang's .. just wanted something different and boy did I get that !! read more

Steamed dumpling were great. I got Cantonese chicken and the container was chock full. Bag was so heavy. Will feed me a few times. Facility could use an upgrade though and in this military town a military discount seems warranted. read more

Went by to enjoy a good Lunch, a big bowl of House Soup - loaded with vegetables, chicken, shrimp, pork, noodles, and beef. Once inside I discovered that they are not doing lunch seating, only supper. All lunch orders are taken to go. So, back home, the serving is enormous. Plenty for seconds tomorrow! Wow this is our go to for our hankering for Chinese food! We have been all over SATX and have been looking for Chinese food that is reminiscent to the ones in our childhood and in movies. Let's start with the bad cuz there not much bad here: the eggrolls were a little undercooked and the soup was Luke warm. The good!: the eggrolls are the best you will have! I absolutely love them! The steamed dumplings are tender and not too chewy with an amazing dipping sauce. The fried rice goes perfect with the entrees, our favorite so far is the sweet and sour pork followed by the orange chicken served w broccoli. If you haven't been here you need to try it! read more

Located near Fort Sam Army Base near the intersection of Rittiman Rd and Harry Wurzbach. If you are looking for price and quantity this is the place! The building is old and rundown looking but inside looks clean, don't let the outside fool you. We were greeted by the waiter and when we seated ourselves. Our entrees were ready in less than 10minutes. All of the entrees were hot: Cashew Chicken, with fried rice and choice of soup, Chicken Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken with fried rice and soup, Beef with Broccoli with white rice and Mongolian Beef with fried rice. Each entree came with soup and rice. Egg roll was $3 extra. The soups were hot and flavorful and of course each restaurant makes it different and our hot and sour soup was a good different. Each entree was enough for 2 people. Everyone that dined requested to go boxes. People also picked up to go ordered as it is close to the base and neighborhood. We would return in the future. I understand they only accept to go orders at lunch and closed during the day and reopen for sit down dinner at 5pm to 10pm. read more

This wonderful little " hole in the wall " is family owned and has been around at least 25 years. Grandpa oversaw the kitchen for years, even as he aged beyond 100. We were in the mood for Chinese food. So we basically just picked a random spot. It was night time when we arrived. It wasn't busy, and the service was fast. We ordered take out. I got sesame chicken, it was good. It definitely was enough food to feed 2 people, maybe even 3. The fried rice was good. The outside could definitely use more light. The inside was well lit. Not gonna lie the food was good until I came across this creature in my rice. I was eating and something told me to look down and this was barley blending in I normally eat at home because of things like this but was craving some Chinese food. Safe to say I'll be making my own at home from now on. My original order was fried wings, fried house rice and wontons. Sometimes Yelp reviews are so misleading. Simply put - Panda Inn is a San Antonio cult classic. Sure, it's a bit dilapidated and run-down. Sure, the outside of the building kind of looks like something you'd see in a horror story. HOWEVER, the inside is always clean, and the food is phenomenal. ALWAYS fresh vegetables. ALWAYS consistent. ALWAYS kind workers. Extremely inexpensive. I'm talking - it feels like you stepped back in time. On average, their gargantuan lunch specials (entree, rice, large egg roll) is about $6.50, sometimes cheaper! Succulent. Scrumptious. Can't say enough good things about their food. My favorites on the lunch special menu: moo goo gai pan, almond chicken, and beef and broccoli. Also, you have got to try to special wonton soup. I go to Panda Inn several times a week for lunch. I work on base, and it's right next door - close to Fort Sam Houston Cemetery. I'm known by my first name here. It's important to note that they specialize in what is considered "Americanized Chinese food," which I don't mind one bit. If you're going to be a snob about appearance, don't go to Panda Inn. This was recommended to me and was told the dine in experience was really good. Their dining room is open but we decided to get it to go. The steamed dumplings were good. The Beef Chop Suey combination plate was a bit more greasy than I would have preferred but it was still enjoyable. The egg roll was bigger than what I expected and I suppose became less crispy on the drive back home. the aftertaste left a bit to be desired. The pork rice was also a little too greasy but good. The house special soup lacked flavorful meats and the soup itself was good to me but my family didn't care to finish it.
