Been stationed here for 6 months and would always look at this restaurant as if it was run down and nasty, only because the bldg doesn't look up to par- BUT the food was definitely worth it. Bad customer service, I arrived and the host was on her phone and ignored me for about 2 minutes. On-line it says the food comes egg roll and soup. But it doesn't come with soup. The rice looks more like Spanish rice and doesn't taste like Chinese rice at all (no bueno) the egg roll looks like a chimichanga but it has ok flavor. The General Chicken is ok. The building is old and it has a musty smell, I give one star. read more

Panda Inn.... Possibly the Worst Chinese food I've Ever Tasted.... Recently my co-worker treated me to Panda Inn, a little Chinese spot conveniently located near Fort Sam. As I hadn't dined on Chinese Food in nearly a year, I jumped at the opportunity for a "Free Lunch". He seemed rather excited that it was Chinese day in the workplace rotation and handed me the menu. I checked out what the other coworkers were ordering and settled on the egg drop soup and the combination Lo-mein, which is hard to mess up... or so I thought.. The food arrived in the standard white tiny box crammed with noodles and seemed like it would be tasty, but I was wrong. The noodles were extremely tasteless and greasy and the meat was flavorless. I poked around the box and saw multiple shrimp that had the "dirt line" going down the back and the one thing I despise with my seafood is dirty shrimp.... It was just disgusting... every other shrimp I flipped over was not properly cleaned. I hate wasting people's money but I was turned off by the shrimp and couldn't eat the rest. If I were at home and had a pet to slide it to under the table I wouldn't have because honestly as greasy as it was, I didn't feel as if it was proper for canine consumption. The soup was just as unappealing and I had to offer it up to the trash can within a few bites. I for one love Asian food and being stationed overseas allowed me to taste some tasty cuisines. Just because it's standard (cheap) Chinese food, the owners shouldn't let the skill in preparing recipes decline. Simple food prep goes along way and I for one eat with my eyes... the last thing I want peeping at me are dirty shrimp not properly deveined and I've never had these issues with Pei Wei or similar establishments. All in all, a mediocre effort and I am surprised by the Yelp rating this place has and even more surprised my coworkers love this place. Perhaps I'm a Food Snob or just like quality but a Stale Peanut Butter Sandwich would have been more filling and healthier. Won't be ordering again... Ms. Foodie read more

I have been going to Panda Inn since 1994. The food has always been on point. I mostly stick to my favorites of Mongolian Beef, Egg Foo Yung, and Fried Rice but have had almost everything on their menu at least twice and that's only due to food allergies I have. *Mongolian Beef is excellent *Egg Foo Yung is excellent no matter what kind *Fried Rice is excellent no matter what kind The prices and portions are just lovely and always have been. My only complaints are the location needs some work, but the best food comes from the hole-in-the-wall places (as we all should know), they have never expanded, and they don't deliver. They don't even participate on the food service apps like Ubereats, Doordash,, etc. Would love to have it delivered as I don't live near the place and haven't for quite some time. Love ya Cookie! To be honest when I pulled up to Panda Inn I almost turned around and left. But don't judge a book by its cover as they say. Once inside I was very impressed with the food. The soup was fantastic and the fried rice was great. The portions are very large and the price is cheap too. We went for dinner and ate there. This is not a fancy place but the food was really good! The portions are huge! We got the General (Tso's) Chicken combo and the Pepper Steak. The sauces were very good and nothing was too salty. The steak was tender and the veggies cooked just enough, not mushy. I am SO glad I'm not the only one that knows the joys of Panda Inn. I've been going to Panda Inn since I was a baby. Literally. I've grown up down the street from Panda Inn and every time my parents wanted to get take out we would get Panda Inn. I grew so fond of it that I choose it for birthday dinners. Not a lot of people venture over to Harry Wurzbach but this should give you a reason to. The hours are a little different as Jack has mentioned but it's not that bad. The parking does get a little crazy on the weekends because it's so close to Fort Sam Houston and a lot of the military personnel go there for dinner but it's never been to the point where I can find parking. The food is fantastic for the price. The portions are ridiculous too. I love getting the egg rolls and the kung pao chicken. The Moo Goo Gai Pan is also really great. Where do I start? I had never been to this restaurant before today, however; after reading their reviews (4 stars at the time) I was more then willing to give them a try. This is a very "hole in the wall" restaurant and admittedly that is probably the best description for this place. The atmosphere is nostalgic of the American-Chinese restaurant boom of the 80's as nothing seems to have been updated since that time. Tables, booths, chairs, and perhaps even the flooring. We were immediately seated upon arrival but after looking at the menu decided to take our food to go. The place was pretty quiet and my coworker and I have the tendency to be loud talkers. When placing our order; I had the lunch special for Friday (beef and broccoli) which was very "gummy" to say the least. The only way I could describe the beef is to say at one point it was breaded and then at another point tossed in brown sauce. The egg roll that came with my meal was more like a burrito and very greasy inside. I added the egg drop soup which was thick in consistency and had chunks of ham. The "chips" that I order with the soup were fried noodles from a can and not the fried wontons you would get at other restaurants. The rice can only be described as Mexican-Chinese rice. My coworker order then sesame chicken which came with soup and tea for $8.95 but was denied the soup and tea because we decided on Togo rather than dining in; however the price was not adjusted. Food was just ok... after readings rave reviews from other yelpers, i thought i would give them another chance... still didnt impress me... and my pet peeve is seeing, hearing, or smelling clean up while customers are still dining... that is a big no no for me... and they were vacuuming while i was eating!!!... ugh! read more

In town visiting family over spring break, doing some shopping at a local farmers market and decided to try this place for lunch. After walking in, we were immediately greeted and allowed to pick her own table. We were cheerfully acknowledged by a young fellow who started with a polite conversation that led to our drink orders. We glanced over the lunch menu while he fetched our drinks and I was surprised at the low prices of the lunch options. We all ordered the lemon chicken and ordered one side of broccoli. Everything was hot and fresh. My only complaint is that the egg rolls contents could have been fresher.
