This place hasgone down hill so much and the owner/manager doesn't seem to care. He was even on his cell phone while seating customers.

The…read morespace is simple, with small tables and picture menus covering the walls, but that just adds to its charm. Everything is made fresh to order from the thick, hand-pulled noodles, dumplings, and scallion pancakes. Ordering is quick and casual. You place your order at the back right counter when you walk in (for dine-in or takeout), and the cashier also acts as your server. If you order a noodle soup, they'll ask if you want green onions and/or cilantro. After that, just grab any open table and relax. We ordered a variety of dishes. Appetizers: Scallion pancakes: (3/5) nice crispy pancakes with scallions. Dumplings with pork and leeks: (3/5) tender dumplings filled with pork and some leeks Spicy stewed beef noodle soup: (4/5) thick hand pulled noodles in a savory broth topped with vegetables like bok choy and mushroom and some tender beef Hot and sour vermicelli soup: (4/5) very tangy savory broth with tender vermicelli noodle and ground pork. Medium spicy level Biang Biang noodles with pork: (4/5) their signature hand-pulled noodles are sautéed in a medium spicy sauce with pork. Overall this place hits the spot for an authentic Chinese meal without the glitz and glamour.

Reviews here seem pretty split, so here's a balanced perspective…read more My family has been coming to Asian Imperial for about four years. Before moving to Lunenburg we lived in Groton where we had an excellent Chinese restaurant 2 towns over. so when we moved here we tried basically every Chinese place in Fitchburg, Leominster, and Lunenburg looking for something comparable. Out of all of them, Asian Imperial is the best option locally, but it's definitely not the best Chinese food overall. The place has two sides to it: the bar and the restaurant. The bar is excellent. Large U-shaped granite bar, good high-top seating, friendly bartenders, and strong drinks. Honestly 9 out of 10 times we come here it's for the bar, not a full dinner. Crab rangoons and lighter bar food are solid. The bar experience is easily 10/10. The main food menu is more average. It's definitely better than the typical shopping-plaza Chinese takeout nearby (over-fried chicken, dark greasy fried rice, etc.), but the food itself is generally pretty bland and not very memorable. It's decent, sometimes good, sometimes just okay. For context, my family eats Chinese food almost every weekend and we've tried a huge number of places across Eastern MA and Southern NH. I also try to judge restaurants by the whole experience (atmosphere, staff, drinks, cleanliness) not just one dish. My family owns a restaurant so I try to judge restaurants by the whole experience not just one dish. Taking everything into account, 3/5 feels fair. Clean restaurant, good staff, great bar, and decent food. Around this area, that actually stands out. If you want excellent Chinese food and are willing to drive, go to Lilac Blossom in Nashua, NH (11/10). But locally, Asian Imperial is the best option we've found.

Enjoyed Mango Chicken and Sauteed Chicken with Mixed Veggies, the later prepared as requested with low salt and sauce on the side. Our server, Bella R., was most competent, helpful and pleasant. From the time they reopened after a brief closure about a year and a half ago, quality has been good--more at all star level than hall of fame level, but always good. But things recently took a step up. I learned they have a new chef. On my most recent lunch visit I went with a combo and an add-on of a side of lobster sauce. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Average size, average batter, but crisp and well-above-average meat-to-batter ratio. None of the typical separation of chicken from shell. This last part was a noticeable step up from previous visits, where the fingers have always been good, but not this good. Also, stepping up was the sweet-and-sour sauce, which was darker and more complex than the only-sweet fire engine red model I've come to expect. Very pleasing and near-elite. Pork Fried Rice: Fresh, fluffy, warm, and studded with fresh pork mini cubes, along with onion and egg. What it wasn't was dark and bold. Maybe I'm cursed with being too hard to please or cursed with a good memory of how many dozens if not hundreds of times I've been blessed by superbly darkened and flavored rice in the past. Despite not being dark enough to compete with the past, it competes well with the present competition, easily coming in above average. Egg Roll: Another item that's always been good, but today, very good. Warm, crisp, and a moist and crunchy blend of cabbage and celery, with some dots of pink. Well above average, this time flirting with near-elite. Lobster Sauce: I've had mixed experiences at Singapore with this dish, which has always been at least good but has varied in darkness, saltiness, and gloppiness. This time, as a whole order rather than on a combo, it came in with more whole black beans than typical, good black bean flavor, zero saltiness, zero glop, and more of a chestnut brown color than darkest near-black brown. A pretty good compromise; it's like they knew how far to ramp up the flavor and then stopped before it got out of hand, as can happen when lobster sauce starts looking like WD40. Near-elite. Very strong showing that's the best overall visit I've had there. I'm not sure how repeatable it is, but I plan to find out soon.

The place looked clean and fancy; their restrooms were clean, fancy, and even has a changing table. They serve standard Chinese American fare. The service has always been good and friendly. The prices were average to above average; of course, it increases as the years go by due to inflation. Parking was always plentiful. I usually get the general tso combo with fried rice but lately I've been loving their Chicken Fingers, Boneless Ribs, Beef Teriyaki, Pork Fried Rice for $15.95; I usually swap out chicken fingers for fried chicken wings. On this most recent visit, we dined in with about 10 of us. Our server was funny, quick, and attentive. I also had a side of crab rangoons and a single size of a scorpion bowl. Everything was excellent except for the beef teriyaki on a stick, it was unusually tough. Other than that, overall, the food and service was good. It's definitely still up there with one of my favorite Chinese spots in this area.
