This is my local panera and unfortunately its just not great. My avocado blt had like a tiny morsal of avocado. The guy putting out my order was kind but forgot my drink cup and I had to ask. I would have ordered from a person but they only have 1 person at the register over by the bakery. The people assembling orders were also visibly on their phones I get the temptation and usually wouldn't care but they're handling food so its not a great thing. There was also a straight up (different) company hiring event in the dining room that i accidentially sat in because they were taking up the area by the window without any signs or anything. I've NEVR seen a Panera Bread this empty at 6pm... The facility was clean, well lit, and carried all the trade marked delights of the normal Panera Bread. The staff were polite and respectful and the food came out in record time! We ordered the Broccoli Cheddar soup, Chicken Avo Melt, and the Chicken Avocado BLT. The food was hot, fresh and flavorful! I love mango smoothies, so I stopped in to get one, and it was tasty. I used to like the orange scones, and that was okay. But the cinnamon roll I got my husband tasted like one you'd get wrapped in plastic at a gas station. The dominant flavor was a watery sugar glaze, with a faint cinnamon flavor. The roll was light, dry, and tasteless. I don't eat the soups because although tasty, they are frozen and reheated in plastic bags. I just watched a line cook in the open kitchen answer, a phone call on her cell phone (factually proven, dirtier than a toilet seat), wipe her nose, then continuing assembling orders. As I was placing my order, I noticed the employees making the food were not wearing hair protection - most of them with long, unpinned, loose hair while making the food. I received my sandwich, and enjoyed a few bites before I found a long, black, slimey hair wrapped into my sandwich. I pulled it from my mouth in disgust, and unfortunately it ruined the rest of the meal for me. After spending almost $20 on a sandwich, I ended up just throwing it into the garbage. Wondering if the lack of hair protection is in correlation with the FDA code guidelines... even if no hair nets, to have the hair pulled back while working with food seems like a no-brainer to me. I came in on a Saturday afternoon when they were extremely busy. The person who took my order was nice and helpful. I had to wait a little while for my food to come up, but it was clear the kitchen staff were working hard to make quality food as fast as possible. When I got my order, they very nicely apologized for the wait time. I imagine it's stressful to work in such a fast paced environment with people who are waiting for their order watching them the whole time, so I appreciate what they do! My spicy chicken sandwich was tasty and I was glad I added lettuce and tomato to balance out the flavors and textures. Prompt service but rotten lettuce. We ordered curbside and service was on time and friendly. Decided to try the chicken caprese sandwich and French onion soup. Soup was on par with other Paneras, but the sandwich was not. I kept tasting something terrible. Opened up the sandwich to find it filled with wilted, rotten, stinky lettuce. I finally tried to flag someone down who snapped at me, " we have a hour wait on all orders!" but there was only us and one other man in the place! We were so confused. Stopped here this morning to grab some bagels to take to work. Despite having staff behind the counter, I was told to order on a computer screen. 4 other people were also on a screen trying to figure out how to do it. The lady behind the counter offered to help me with the screen order and I said I was in a hurry to get bagels and get to work....at that point , begrudgingly, she offered to help me" the old fashioned way " and take my order. I ordered a dozen bagels and wanted the honey walnut cream cheese to go with it..... " we're out of it" she snipped at me as she was putting my bagels in a cheap paper bag....not the nice one they used to give you that had handles on it. I would have ordered more items for my work friends , but this lady seemed quite bothered that she even had to help me get bagels. So much for customer service. I saw the negative reviews but gave it a chance anyway - I regret that. We placed our order for pickup in advance and we're surprised when we received a text update that our order was ready 20 minutes early. We were lucky our food hadn't been taken when we arrived but it was far from warm since it had been sitting out. Then there was the Women's bathroom - no toilet paper to be found. And it's impossible to wash your hands since the water only comes out scalding hot and the cold water spicket is broken. I can only guess how female employees are "washing" their hands after using the bathroom without toilet paper. Avoid this location. read more

I was recently appalled by the actions of a manager at the Augusta Panera. It was extremely busy and the staff was working to keep up but there were multiple online orders coming in as well and they were falling behind. The manager, Tom lost his temper and addressed the entire dining room stating that people could leave if they didn't like it. He was very aggressive and off putting. He told people to call later for a refund. I understand the frustration but one would think a manager would be more professional. The other staff members were uncomfortable and embarrassed by his actions. I won't be returning to Panera for that reason and many more. read more

We have been coming here for years, always on our way to and from Canada through Boston, way prior to Panera ever expanding into New Mexico where we live. It used to always be bustling with patrons, clean, and with friendly staff. This time was definitely a stark contrast to that. Hopefully it's not like this everyday, but even though there was hardly anyone there, it was hard to find a clean table, and the staff was too busy to pay any attention to the customers. Granted, the help-yourself tablets encourage the staff to be hands-off, but at other Panera establishments that have adopted that, it's across the way from the cash registers and they are happy to let you choose whether to use the tablet or take your order for you. It seems like they are understaffed, overworked, and were just plain tired. The food was still exactly what Panera always offers, even if they did make one mistake on one of our sides, that's typical and they are happy to fix it once you get their attention. I like to get the lobster roll on our drive up this time of year since they are generous with it and it's not finely chopped nor covered in too much dressing. This was my worst Panera Bread experience to date. The place was understaffed, and what staff they did have was rude. The line was out the door, and staff didn't seem to care. Right off the highway in Danbury in. Shopping center with a whole foods, I find this to be a great stop when traveling 84 east or west. Panera's have consistency, and healthier choices than other fast food chains, and they are one of my go tos. This one has always been clean, service on par and food cooked consistently. My family and I went to this restaurant, I used 3 old 20 dollar bills my grandmother had given me (she passed away recently) they were old like 1977 old. The "manager" accused us of passing counterfeit money right at our table and called the police. The officers looked at the bills determined they weren't counterfeit but the "manager" still wouldn't take them. I've never been so embarrassed in my life. This Panera location is pretty standard which is normally very good in all aspects. Cleanliness, efficiency of service, and overall product; Although, this time I was quite surprised to see a cashier literally covered in dog hair. I know that when you own dogs it is common to have hair on you but as a worker at a food establishment I would think this could be a health hazard. I was hesitant to even make an order for fear I would have dog hair in my food. Her sweater and hat were both covered. So soup was the obvious choice. The creamy tomato soup tastes like over salted thin ketchup. They happily let me try something else. So I, not wanting to risk anything said chicken noodle. Staff is not competent and some of them are actually downright rude. I asked for a panini and was served a sandwich. When I asked about the mixup I was told it was my fault for not specifying a panini in my order. Also slow. Coffee was cold and weak. The urn was practically empty. I'm typically a Panera fan. This is not my usual location. Our experience this evening was well below satisfactory. My daughter ordered a strawberry banana smoothie. Sorry, out of bananas. She ordered a meal which typically has choice of side of baguette, apple or chips. Sorry, out of baguettes. I ordered French onion soup (which I usually love at Panera), they served it to me with about 12 slivers of cheese and no croutons. I went to ask for the croutons. Sorry, out of croutons. Went to get my typical ginger hibiscus tea drink. Watered down so it was nearly clear. My kids both got chocolate chip cookies. Hard as rocks (they were ok once we asked if the could heat them a bit in the microwave.) Wow Augusta Panera Bread, you need to step up your game. I think I'll stick to the Topsham location (although they are also often out of bananas and baguettes). read more
