Spicy take chicken sandwich + greens & tomato
    Sarah W.

I came in on a Saturday afternoon when they were extremely busy. The person who took my order was nice and helpful. I had to wait a little while for my food to come up, but it was clear the kitchen staff were working hard to make quality food as fast as possible. When I got my order, they very nicely apologized for the wait time. I imagine it's stressful to work in such a fast paced environment with people who are waiting for their order watching them the whole time, so I appreciate what they do! My spicy chicken sandwich was tasty and I was glad I added lettuce and tomato to balance out the flavors and textures. The vegetables were fresh, the chicken was flavorful, the bun was soft, and the pickle chips were crisp. It was perfect takeout for when I was out running errands.

We have been coming here for years, always on our way to and from Canada through Boston, way prior to Panera ever expanding into New Mexico where we live. It used to always be bustling with patrons, clean, and with friendly staff. This time was definitely a stark contrast to that. Hopefully it's not like this everyday, but even though there was hardly anyone there, it was hard to find a clean table, and the staff was too busy to pay any attention to the customers. Granted, the help-yourself tablets encourage the staff to be hands-off, but at other Panera establishments that have adopted that, it's across the way from the cash registers and they are happy to let you choose whether to use the tablet or take your order for you. It seems like they are understaffed, overworked, and were just plain tired. The food was still exactly what Panera always offers, even if they did make one mistake on one of our sides, that's typical and they are happy to fix it once you get their attention. I like to get the lobster roll on our drive up this time of year since they are generous with it and it's not finely chopped nor covered in too much dressing. Their bread bowls, sandwich bread, and baguette on the side is always on point.

My autistic child did not like her sandwich it was very firm and unfresh the tomatoes. We're very nasty. We will not be coming back.

This time we brought the whole family for dinner. I'd recommend reservations on weekends since it was packed, but we got seated right away because we planned ahead. Our waitress was top-notch -- high energy, charming, attentive. I'd give her 6 stars if I could! She read our crew well and adapted to each individual at the table -- a skill that clearly came from experience, and it served her (and us) well. Everything we had was great: cocktails, appetizers, dinner -- not a bad thing on the table. But the standouts for me were the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Spicy Shrimp Shio Ramen. For drinks, the seasonal Crazy (whiskey, Amaro Montenegro, beet, cayenne, lemon, egg white) and the Veruca Salt (tequila, coconut, avocado, pineapple, lime) were both incredible. I loved them so much I'm making a special trip back to town during my stay just to have them again ;) Bravo, State Lunch! You've got a fan for life. Book that reservation -- you won't be disappointed.

I got the small blueberry pizza (6 slices), which has certainly made the rounds on social media as one of the best pizzas in maine. the food came out pretty quick, hot and fresh. as someone who could easily eat a small pizza to himself, it did make me want an in between size (medium) as they only have small or large pizzas. the toppings on the pizza were maine blueberries, lemon ricotta, and shallots on an olive oil base. I loved the flavor and it was substantial enough for a meal even though it seemed like more of a dessert pizza when I first heard of it. it's a savory and slightly sweet pizza that works really well. I saw they also have a maine blueberry pancake pizza for breakfast which also sounds like something I need to try. definitely on my list of quick and easy dinners. tl;dr get the maine blueberry pizza for lunch or dinner, it's worth it! they only have two sizes: small or large. they also have blueberry pancake pizza for breakfast, too.

The place was clean and nice. And the foods flavor was good. Now, the bad. While the flavor of the food was good, the food itself wasn't. Everything was extremely dry. We got the hush puppies to start and the sampler to try a little of everything. It was like a desert it was so dry. The hush puppies, chicken, ribs, brisket (which was more like pulled pork because they shred it for some reason) corn bread, and somehow both the coleslaw and baked beans, too. The only way this happens is if they make things earlier in the day and then everything just sits. Meaning it's not freshly made. As I mentioned, it was not very busy, so I'm assuming they make their food in advance and let it sit in pans over heat all day. Which is not what you do with BBQ. It's quite disappointing because the flavor is there. The spices they use were a southern flavor, which is good; but it's so dry, you'll be reenacting the scene from Christmas Vacation just to eat your food. They should consider either limiting their hours they are open to help not have food sitting around to dry out or reconsidering how the make their food. Dry BBQ is the worst, hopefully they'll make the appropriate changes.

I came here today for the first time in a few months because I've been in a rough financial spot, but I decided to spoil myself and order online since I was rushing to work. The order said it would take about 30 minutes, so I thought, "Okay, I have time." I got there about 20 minutes later and was shocked to see that my order was already done! I grabbed the bag and headed back to my car, gave the bagels to my partner, and we hopped onto the interstate. Unfortunately, the next exit was 10 miles south. My partner pulls the bagels out, and to our absolute surprise... THE BAGELS WEREN'T EVEN TOASTED. WHO IS ORDERING A BAGEL WITH CREAM CHEESE UNTOASTED?! So not only did I pay $20 for THREE bagels, but I paid for three bagels that were completely inedible to me. And because we were already on the interstate with no exit for 10 miles, there was nothing I could do about it. I'm honestly so disappointed because I used to love this place. I understand mistakes happen, but when you're spending $20 on three bagels, especially when you're already trying to be careful with money, you expect your order to at least be made correctly. Would not recommend after this experience and due to the change of atmosphere, I won't be back, and will be taking my bagel orders to Sunrise Bagel down the street.
