I am a long time Panera customer, usually in Md. where I just moved from. On a rainy day , soup and salad sounded like a lovely combination...the salad was great! The chicken noodle soup however missed the mark! I had ONE piece of chicken and EXACTLY ONE noodle (one carrot and one piece of celery) as well. I'm not expecting them to count it, but I've made bowls of soup and the ladle can absolutely scoop up more noodles and chicken unless...you don't care! That's what I came away feeling. I observed the staff as I waited and they were pretty nonchalant. Hard to check your soup at the store, I will however need to check my expectations. I expected just a little bit of care , and received none! Thrown in a bag and on to the next. Edit: I was craving a tuna sandwich (Panera tuna is delish) so I went back, I got my salad out to eat and lo and behold....a minuscule amount of salad dressing. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Front register Dale told me that they were out of plain cream cheese for the half dozen bagels I already began to order. He proceeded to go to the back and came out with the single servings of cream cheese. He told me I could only have 5. When I told him I wanted 6 for the 6 bagels I was buying, he told me I was acting entitled. As a paying customer I found that so rude, when in fact, I was willing to pay for the extra cream cheese. He didn't ask me to pay for it nor did he tell me how much the extra cream cheese would have been because he was too focused on being rude on Christmas Eve in a customer service setting. Worthy of zero stars. My family was traveling back home from our Spring break trip. We did a quick search for nearby location while driving on rt 95 and the one at Colonial Heights popped up. We placed the order through my app and received confirmation that the order was placed and received and ready, only to arrive and learn that the place was CLOSED- as in SHUTDOWN. The Panera sign has been taken down and looked like it had been not in service for very long time. I'd been on the road for 3.5 hrs and hungry... to add insult to injury I filed a complaint through the customer service, only to never receive a follow up once I provided the details. I just learned through reading the reviews here that there is new location in the shopping area, yet that address was NOT updated in the app. How is it possible to have the same address but be in different parts of the mall? 3 Words: Crowded, Messy, and anxious... The workers don't greet you when you walk in, instead they expect you to use the kiosk to order. The layout is a disaster.. it's incredibly crowded.. not to mention the ambiance that their last location had with their beautiful fireplace is now gone... everyone's just crammed into one giant dining space with no cozy nooks. Upon checking on my order many times... the workers look overwhelmed and incredibly anxious. The drink area is a sticky mess with trash everywhere.. We literally had to ask an employee for a rag to wipe down where we were going to sit at.. no clean tables whatsoever... When this location was open near Sam's Club, service was so much better. Now their service is like watching paint dry. You wait so long in the drive thru after you placed the order, when you finally get to the window, you are then told to pull over and wait further. The last couple of times I went, from the time I order to the time I actually received my food, it was 20-22 minutes each time. Seems they have one person making one order at a time of sub par food , with a break in between. If you go here in your lunch break, expect part of that to be spent waiting for sub par food. At this point I have stopped going there, and go out of my way to a more efficient location on route 1. read more

I visit a lot of Paneras all over the IS and this morning I honestly received the best food I've ever had from any. We got a chicken avocado sandwich and the mandarin orange salad and cranberry bread and the serving sizes were great, the sandwich was hot and fresh and so was the salad. Might have been faster to pick up order inside at the counter. Waited about 15 mins in the drive thru. Kickin grilled cheese had a hint of spice. The creamy salsa verde was a tasty addition to the basic grilled cheese. But the bread was hardly grilled/toasted. The cheese was not melty. The creamy tomato soup was delicious. Both were on the saltier side. I did not like how the baguette was just randomly tossed in the bag rather than wrapped or in a sleeve. This place is so compact and loaded with seating that you can't even move around in here. It's like being at a busy airport waiting for your flight, but instead it's your food and it's delayed. I just made a quick trip here specifically for the cinnamon buns. I don't eat anything BUT the cinnamon buns from Panera. I have been to this location once before. It is very close to Southpark Mall & across the street from Sam's Club. The street is very busy to get to this location, so be careful. I could only give this visit a 3 star because I was completely ignored at the cash register. I stood there at least 5 mins with staff walking to the register without saying a word & walking off. When the manager came there to cash out one of his driver, he finally took care of me. By that time, I was waiting there 10 mins. That is ridiculous just to pay for a 4-count pre-boxed container of cinnamon buns. I definitely won't be back to this location when I'm in town. The entire visit put a bad taste in my mouth. The restaurant is clean and charming. The food, however, is generally not good. I order delivery from here because it's near my house. I've become used to the taste, but it comes nowhere near Italian food. Also, there is usually a problem with the order, require me to speak with someone. As we say in Brooklyn, Fuggetabout it. "Heffe" speaks some English, but a server is tough. Tonight, I ordered through the web, not expecting a problem. I was wrong. My baked spaghetti with sausage became a sausage pizza! The delivery driver called Heffe, and he said he'd make the spaghetti. I don't know where the breakdown occurred, because it was all online. The wings are horrible, the pizza is bad, and the calamari is disgusting, as is the lasagna and calzone. I will credit them with an incredible linguine with clams. That was really good. The sad epitaph to this is there is no better Italian food in Colonial Heights. Vincenzo's is probably the best of the worst. read more

When I went to the window I was finally told that they were out of onions they had just had 20 orders and there was only three people working. This Panera is clean and the music was very calming for the morning rush . The staff well I really can't comment on that because I used the Fast Lane Kiosk . My Mediterranean bowl was so unappetizing because the contents had shifted to the side (or were never placed correctly). The bowl was lacking enough ingredients to fill more than half the plate. My husband was only given a fork to eat his soup. It was chicken and rice, and its taste was not nice. We just finished eating here as we were traveling home. The cashier Ryan was very friendly & when ordering the Napa almond chicken salad sandwich informed me they were out of tomato. No problem. Also let me know the chicken Fuji apple salad would be with spring mix not romaine as they were out of it. No problem. Once we picked up order, the salad had no apples or blue cheese pretty disappointing. The ladies bathroom a mess! I went into both stalls hoping one would be better than the other. Obviously the staff doesn't check the condition of rooms. I left without using as the one toilet was disgusting & the other the door didn't lock & was partially off the hinges. My husband said the men's room was no better. Will probably skip stopping here again for a while. Management needs to step up & bring the bathrooms up to standards. They hardly took my order; I couldn't order myself because there weren't any pagers. My sandwich had hair and rotten lettuce. Put two stars only for the apple and the tea.
