I generally love Panera. I'm a soup person, and their soups are excellent. But the experience I had at this Panera a while back is worth mentioning - it was so bad I considered boycotting the company for a while. I came in to the Panera one day around 3 pm or so - I had driven all the way from Skokie because I used to like this particular location - and it wasn't busy. I ordered my food, sat down, and had a pleasant lunch. Then, just as I was about to leave, I decided that I had a craving for a smoothie. So I walked back to the cashier - still no other customers in sight - and proceeded to ask a couple of questions about the smoothies and desserts. All of a sudden, the manager, who was conveniently hiding behind the barista somewhere, looms over his employee and proceeds to - I kid you not - YELL at me for wasting the employee's time while other people are waiting to order. I was speechless; I turned around to see who had crept up behind me, and there was nobody there! When I pointed this out, he only seemed to become more enraged and told me to leave. To this day, I have never received such bad customer service at any restaurant worldwide (and I'm from a country known for its nonexistent customer service). I don't care if he was having a bad day; there is absolutely no excuse for his behavior. Furthermore, when I attempted to contact Panera about this issue, I got an email response assuring me that they would address the issue with the manager (I want to say his name was Greg or Gary or something). I waited for weeks for the card they promised me, and it never appeared. In short, I've been afraid to go back to this location for fear of getting yelled at again. The Bannockburn location is so much better! Just up the road about 3 miles. I think we found this Panera on a bad night. Employee's seemed kinda pissed off about something? We were in around 8 pm and the restaurant seemed to be on a more 'shut down and get home' mode than taking care of customers. Coffee pots were basically cold and the folks were not so happy about a request to brew some fresh hot coffee. Bad vibe at this one. read more

I did a mobile app order the other night and it was on my end that I did not do it correctly. Despite my error the manager and staff provided a complimentary replacement and did it right away. They could not have been more accommodating and there was no reason that they had to be. I truly appreciate their customer service and the new location is very nice. read more

I like this location, the only consistent problem I find here is the parking. The lot is always crowed and is very cramped. Would love to know just how many fender benders they have there each week. Got to be at least a few. Service here is quick and accurate. I don't really need more. Guess that I am a Panera fan in general, as it has decent variety and is of above average quality. read more

The food is always good and i have never had an issue with it. Broccoli Cheddar bread bowl...uhh fuck yes! Little known secret though, the company they get their broccoli cheddar soup from is sold elsewhere for much cheaper and its exactly the same. The only thing i hate about this place is when i want to try something new, i always feel rushed by the cashier to get my order. i want to thoroughly read the menu, im not holding anyone up, im not even standing at the counter, CHILL THE FUCK OUT. Panera is great when you want a healthy alternative to the normal fast food routine. This location delivers just as you would expect of a Panera. The one negative, as has already been mentioned, is that it is absolutely packed at lunch hour. You cannot find a table during the noon rush. Either get it to go or be prepared to stalk a group for their table. Seating is slightly better in the summer when they open the patio, but otherwise forget it. read more

I had a really bad experience at this location. I was given a hot cup of tea from the cashier, the lid was placed loosely on top. I grabbed the cup from the top, hot water spilled on my hand and I now have a second degree burn. I notified the store and corporate, all I received was a phone call saying they were sorry and that I should see a Dr. No one was concerned if I would return, no efforts were made to make the situation right. I will not return to this store and will make sure to tell others to avoid it. The customer should be a priority, I was not a priority in this horrible situation. read more

I like Panera bread and I really like this location. But I had a weird thing happened to me couple days ago which really kind of annoyed me. I order what I always order turkey with white cheddar. So the cashier rung it up as A beef and cheese because I guess there's no turkey button. I had just ordered the same exact meal the week before and now it was over two dollars more than what I paid. I asked to see the manager in the manager told me the price had gone up and I thought that's kind of weird but I let it go. I had also just bought $100 worth of gift cards. Get into the car completely wrong sandwich. Not a big deal it happens went back and gave them my sandwich they made me a new sandwich. But the price was still bothering me especially since I had just spent over $100 in their store. I went on my phone and went to their app and ordered exactly what I had just ordered inside and came out over two dollars cheaper on my phone. So I went back in the store and said to the Store with the empty bag and receipt and my phone to show her their mistake. I was very nice about it I don't get mad about little things like this and she thought I was getting mad and I said absolutely not I said it's a mistake I said it's no big deal. No I'm sorry no let us get you something for free nothing. The only thing she said to me was "I can't touch that bag it's been outside of the store". What? I've never heard that before. She refunded my two dollars and I left. Seriously? First I have a wrong sandwich which was no big deal but I specifically pointed out that I was being overcharged and she made me feel like an idiot. If you plan on keeping the store open I would definitely recommend a little better customer service. And by the way she also told me how I need to order my sandwich in the future. I sent corporate an email about the 2nd experience I mention below., I NEVER HEARD BACK. So I will write a review. In general, I had been a fan of Panera in the past. But I have now had 2 experiences recently where I can no longer eat there. The first, there was a hair in my food. I didn't make a big stink about it and just showed the manager (I was eating in the restaurant). They refunded my money for the salad. Gross! The second, which is why I will no longer eat here... I ordered a my usual soup and sandwich. When I got home, I poured the dressing on the salad to find a BIG piece of meat in the container. This was a thumb size piece of meat. Should not have been missed when they put dressing in a container. The meat was now on my salad. As a strict vegan and kosher, I now had to throw out my salad. And I was so grossed out by this and questioned the quality of my sandwich at that point. So I lost my appetite and opted not to eat my sandwich either. While this is a personal disgust, it could have easily been something that could have been more of a danger to someone with an allergy issue. Apparently, Corporate didn't find my concerns important enough to even give me the courtesy of a response. bye bye Panera... read more

Panera makes a fairly good sammich, they have really tasty soups (though they're sometimes too salty), they have a good amount of drink options, and their pastries are decent. It can get really crowded, and food comes out kind of slow, during peak hours. The parking lot is cramped, so it can be tough to navigate through during peak hours. Off-hours, it's much nicer. Most of the dining room is open, so you can get a little more comfortable, and enjoy your food in peace. I'd give them 4 stars, but I think their prices are a little steep compared to other great sandwich & soup options nearby. I usually stick to the traditional turkey sandwich, which is one of their less-salty options. Over half of the other sandwiches I've ordered were a little too salty for my taste. Their salads were okay, if a little on the small side. Strangely, they seemed salty too. Maybe their meats are brined or something? This is a nice location to come to every once in a while, during off-peak hours, but I probably wouldn't come here too often. There are other options within a mile radius for sandwiches, soup, salad, and pastries. 2017 ~ 2018 Update (dropping from 3 to 2 stars): They've either somehow managed to get even more salt into their cold cuts, or some other ingredient in their sandwiches is too salty. I honestly can't quite figure out what element it is, even after dissecting and eating the ingredients separately, but every bite is just too salty. Maybe the mayo or mustard? Eh, I dunno; and I'm not coming back for a while to figure it out. Considering that they've also increased their prices, I'm just liking Panera even less in recent months. They seem to have stepped up the quality of their coffee drinks and iced tea (which makes me wonder if the added salt is intentional - time to check with my conspiracy theorist buddies), but you can get better coffee at a half-dozen other places in the area and nobody beats McAlister's for iced tea in the area. The prices for this Panera are almost as much as some of the top delis (Shaevitz, any of the "Once Upon" locations, Bob's, Upper Crust, or Big Apple) and gourmet sandwich shops in the area, so I'd rather go to one of them if I want a better bite for the buck. If I don't want to spend a lot, I'd much rather get a sandwich at Fresh Thyme's deli counter (edit: sorry, they're closed now); head over to McAlister's and enjoy a super iced tea and chili; get something quick at Subway or Jimmy John's; or get a sandwich at one of the local cafes like Rhapsody or Eggshell. Unless they change their game, there's just no reason for me to go to this Panera location (or most other Panera locations) - there are soooo many better sandwich options in the neighborhood. July 2018 Update (bumping up to 3 stars): This Panera location seems to have focused on improving the quality and value of their menu. In reviewing the nutritional content of some of their salads, soups, and sandwiches; it's clear that they've lowered the sodium content. This is great, as I've had problems with their food seeming too salty to me. Considering how nice their dining area generally is, I'm now more apt to come here for a sandwich. This Panera location still has some steep competition, within a few miles radius, though. read more

A huge shout out to the GM at Panera Bread in Deerfield, IL. I ordered lunch on my lunch break today and drove up to the carry out spots. I waited awhile and no one came out, so I figured I'd wait a few more seconds before I went in. In that time, a woman crashed her car in the parking lot and drove up with a flat tire behind me to wait for police so I really couldn't leave. The GM came out , asked me what I ordered and I told him. Apparently my order didn't go through on the app. Stan was great. He had quite the situation with this lady who had the crash, my order not going through, police there etc, but he was calm, cool and super nice and understanding. He could have walked right by me to deal with the police, but he took care of my order. (I would have totally understood if that was his priority, but he let the police do their thing and he did his). He helped me get my car out and gave me a free soup and sandwich. This is how you deal with a crazy situation and make customers happy! read more

This Panera does it great like most locations. I have one complaint though, and maybe I've been spoiled, but I used to get soup in the morning on my way to work which I know is kind of odd. But since then I've noticed that most locations don't do this because their soup is not ready yet. So I wish they would start making their soup a little earlier so I don't have to wait until the lunch hour when it is packed! read more

We were just there having lunch and took food outside to eat. They forgot a soup spoon so my partner went in to get one. He was putting on his mask and the manager said he had to leave. He actually said "get out." My partner replied that he just wanted a spoon so he got it and went back out. Then we realized they forgot a cookie we had ordered so he went back in and this time with a mask on but just under his nose as he has asthma. The manager, Sayid, really started yelling this time. My partner said can you just bring this outside to us then. When the manager came to our outdoor table instead of just dropping off the cookie he stood there and was very threatening and said if we came back he would call the police. He stated at least three times he would call the police on us, each time yelling louder. There was no call for this behavior as we are very careful to social distance and the place had very few people in it. If he was so worried about being around us why did he spend several minutes yelling at us and therefore being exposed? And he seems to be the manager so great example to the staff of how to treat customers! We are an older couple so maybe he felt he could go off on us and we would take it. We felt very unsafe. It will be a long time before we return to a Panera. Avoid this location if you don't want to be threatened and verbally abused. read more

When it comes to sandwiches, I prefer to make mine at home; but sometimes a busy mom needs a break--that's when Panera comes in. Here in the burbs, we don't have the good Jewish Deli's one finds in the city so we have to settle for fresh, clean and tasty -- and this Panera location is all three. This is the only kids-friendly, non-pizza takeout that isn't fried to a crisp, ala Mickey Ds. The sandwiches are very good and ample (my usual is the smoked ham and swiss on stone milled rye). I hear the salads are good too. My kids love the cheddar and broccoli soup in the sour dough bread bowl (there's something about getting to eat the bowl that's magical to a child). The service is always very efficient and they have free wi-fi for those of us who have an inner geek clawing to come out and play. read more

This location is spacious and has enough seating area even during their rush hour. I usually go to this Panera on my lunch break around noon. It is very busy during this time of the day, but the staff works very quickly and the waiting time in line is not too long. I did not give the 5th star as they do not replace the empty coffee pots very promptly, sometimes you could stand there waiting for the staff to bring full coffee pots. read more

Just have the pleasure of meeting the GM Stan at this location and thought his excellent customer service deserved a shout out. My company ordered lunch for the office using the online rapid order function. For whatever reason the computer did not generate our order so it wasn't ready when I arrived. Stan saw me waiting, asked what I was waiting for, and went into overdrive to rectify the situation. He apologized about the mix up and even walked the large order out to my car. Food is always good but I've used their new app for rapid pick up and it's fabulous! Order online, you're able to change your item to some extent to fit your likes, pay, set a time and BAM! I don't think Panera is a bad chain, but this may not be the best location. I've consistently had difficulties, especially when it comes to ordering on-line and picking up. Once I ordered a catering plagger and the staff could not find the order and wasted time trying to find it. It turns out that it was ready, but they could not locate the order. I've also tried to use the rapid pick-up to order a muffin, and it was not ready at the time it was supposed to be. You'd think it would be easy enough to get a muffin ready.... read more

Great, cheerful customer service in the morning. I love the fact that I can refill my coffee for free! Free wifi, but it can sometimes be a little slow. I recently ordered their large box of coffee to go and it worked out very well. Plenty of creamer, sugar, cups, lids, etc. and it cost less than the other major coffee shops in the area. read more
