I keep thinking of this Panera as new, but based on reviews, looks like it's been here for 5+ years. This drive thru Panera is located right on Rt 10 in East Hanover. I stopped in here for the first time today for lunch. One positive is that there was plenty of seating at lunchtime. I ordered a favorite, broccoli and cheddar soup. No complaints, soup was good and hot. The French bread served as a side was excellent. Panera is always a good lunch option. I'll stop back here again when in the area. read more

Stopped going to this location because I constantly used to get sandwiches with rotten lettuce on it! Looks like not much has changed. I was really annoyed that I ordered a large bowl of the mac and cheese to go And it was not filled all the way. At least an inch and a half ...worth of the cup not filled. I love stopping here when I'm in East Hanover. My sip club cups always come out asap, and the ingredients are fresh when I order a sandwich. Folks at the drive thru are friendly even when I'm only getting a beverage. Lots of older folks frequent this location to chat and eat. Due to convenience of location; I ordered a small and large soup for my husband who has the flu. Prices have gone up ridiculously. I was literally in shock when I saw the actual size of what we got. The soups were so small I'd rename the large soup as an extra small and the small soup as minuscule. Not worth the money at all. It's a place we used to frequent often. Not anymore! I was so angry at not only what it cost but the fact that it was such a small amount. I bought one small and one large and a sandwich and it cost $30! I'm not surprised the place was empty. I spoke to my niece who had also been sick and ripped off by Panera. From now on, I'll make the u-turn to get soup from the diner which always gives a big container I which you get at least 3 servings or 3 at 1/4 of the price. It truly pains me that I have to leave such a negative review but words can't describe the bad service I experienced when dining here. I would like to point out I have been a regular here for years, I am closer to another location but drive the extra bit just for this one. The past six years I have been met with nothing but great and positive employees. I came in and placed a dine in order- a soup bowl and a simple smoothie. Normally when I order these items it takes about 10 minutes but this time I found myself waiting for about 18 minutes. I wouldn't have complained if the building was busy like all the other times I came in, but this time there was only about five people. After waiting that long, I had came up to the counter looking for an employee to ask why the wait was so long. I did not recognize the worker so I assumed she was new and thats why it was taking longer than usual. I asked if she could get her manager and I was then met with a lady named Amanda who in the beginning of the chat was understanding but as it continued she grew more hostile. This was the most unprofessional management I've met in a long time. While trying to explain the situation, I was continuously cut off and was made to feel I was being inconsiderate because the employee was new. The interaction lasted for 5 minutes and the food still wasn't ready by then. I ended up just leaving without a refund or my food. I cant explain how upsetting it was to see a place I enjoyed so much and supported treat me this way. I can confirm I will not be returning because of the mistreatment. We ordered Mac and cheese, half salad and half a BLT to go. We requested utensils and received one fork and three knives. The Mac and cheese was great but the BLT lacked the B. Two observations about the food experience at Panera in 2022: 1) The food portions have gotten much smaller while the prices have been raised. The bread for the sandwich is small. Maybe 4 1/2 inches. For $6.71, you would expect a little more, maybe I'm wrong. Yes, inflation, but this is a slider, not a sandwich. 2) Their kiosks don't work well. They aren't secured tightly to the stand so they are loose. The software glitches and the screen is non responsive when trying to check out. We had to start over again. And again. This isn't the only time, either. Has happened often enough in the past to take notice. There isn't a person manning the front counter most of the time, so abandoning the kiosk and just going to order in-person isn't the quick solution. 3) I feel for the staff since it seems like this location is understaffed. It may be hard to recruit employees in this environment and those that are working are left to pick up the slack. read more

The first time I tried this sandwich when it first premiered a couple of months ago, it was nice and juicy. The last two times I've ordered it, including this time, it was good but it was dry. I've been a sips club member si ce the program was rolled out by the company. Recently, the Service has taken an extreme nose dive in quality since the new manager has taken over. Lemonade and usage of the microwave has been removed. When presented my issues to upper management, they sided with the store manager instead of the customer community feedback. Came here on Friday 1/27/23 a little after breakfast hours were done. Did my order at the kiosk, grabbed my drinks, and headed to pick out a table. The table needed to be wiped down and I found wipes nearby to wipe the table and I was able to set up my workstation and grab my meal upon being ready by the table buzzer. One star because of what I saw. My green tea and food wasn't bad. But some of the workers were on break and what I saw was pretty bad. I will post the picture of a kitchen worker sleeping on the benches. One point when she was actually sitting she took her shoes off and was picking at her toes while I was eating a few tables behind her. When she got up to lay down we saw her rear end. If I have the option I would give NO star!!! The service is awful. I went into the store around 5 pm on Sunday expecting to have someone there to help me. When I entered the store there were no one on sight and I had to yell 3 times for someone to come out from their "cave". The lady came out and said " I am on break". If you are on break then someone else should be out here to help customers, did the staff all go on breaks together?!! The management over there was awful and unprofessional. I'm a big fan of Panera Bread, so I want to say up front that this review is for the East Hanover location only and is not a review of the company. This was my first visit to this particular Panera Bread. Usually I go to the Caldwell or West Orange branches because they're simply more convenient, but I've been to many Panera Bread restaurants and they've all been good... up until now. On this occasion, a family member had been hospitalized for several days and had reached their limit for consuming hospital food. She asked for us to get her Panera's Fuji Apple Chicken Salad, which she loves. The closest Panera location was this one. It never occurred to me to call in advance to make sure they hadn't run out of salad, but sure enough that's what I discovered upon arriving. They had no lettuce at all, and couldn't make any of the salads on the menu. Seriously? Salads make up about a quarter of their menu! The young man behind the counter was pleasant, but was clearly unhappy telling people this. I got the feeling I wasn't the first person he had to explain the situation to, and the manager wasn't anywhere to be seen. I actually felt bad for the poor guy. The only reason I'm not giving this store a 1-star rating is that I realize that sometimes things happen that are unforeseen, so I'm allowing for the fact that perhaps this was an isolated incident, but on this occasion, at this location, I was truly disappointed with my experience. read more

The only reason this Panera bread didnt get 5 stars from me was due to customer service. I was ready to place an order and had to wait for two employees to "wrap up" their conversation! Although it wasnt too long, a customer should have your full attention. I ordered the Fugi apple chicken salad. Man (or woman), that salad was soooooo good! I highly recommend it. This location is super spacious and has a cozy feel to it as well. If you work from home and need a break from your 4 walls, I would spend a morning there. I've been here both inside and at the drive thru and 2 stars are all that they are getting from me at this point. The worst part about this Panera is that the service needs Alot of improvement. The Staff here is rude and inattentive and they constantly get my orders incorrect and never apologize- the customer is always wrong. I think the food at this store is sub-par in comparison to other Panera's I've been to. It's as if sandwiches are thrown together by a 4 year old when you unwrap these things they fall apart it's very unappealing and inedible. The soups always are room temperature and never come out piping hot. The deserts are decent but only because they are pre- prepared so even they can't mess them up. They only reason I have this place 2 stars is the the staff was so nice. They need to do a better job of cleaning the place though. I was not there during a busy time and almost every table was dirty. Hey guy in the orange hat that delivered my food.... you walked by dirty tables over and over while delivering food to the 3 tables of people in the whole place. Then you stood in the back and talked to the "cook" as he was working away. If you fight help clean what's up front then I can imagine what's in the back you don't help with. read more

I lovelovelove panera so when this place opened up so close to home, I've been dying to coming here. I signed up for the panera rewards and was able to get a free pastry/dessert with my first purchase when I came in. I love their strawberry poppyseed salad so I got that with chicken with their pecan braid as the reward all for only $10. The staff are super sweet and helpful and I love the interior (there's so much space to sit and to study/do work), there's even a drive through. The wait wasn't too long, about 10 minutes and everything was included for my take out order. The salad and dessert met my expectation and needless to say, I'll definitely be coming back! read more

I did a mobile order today before taking my 30 minute lunch break. I ordered the mediterranean green balls because it looked really good. I made the mistake of not checking what my food looks like before leaving Panera and when I got back to work what I took out of the bag looked like cat food. Now I understand what food is advertised looking like and what it actually does look like does vary but not to this degree. I'm still not understanding why a lot of these Paneras get such a low rating! I had a really great experience here! I ordered through the kiosk, the creamy tomato soup, grapefruit soda and the gluten conscious triple chocolate cookie with walnuts. At first they sent the wrong food to my table but it wasn't a big deal to me. I liked the temperature of the soup because it was just short of piping hot, which is what I prefer compared to lukewarm. Let me just rave about the grapefruit soda. It is so good! I'm weak so I actually thought I was going to have to bring it up to the cashier for me to open but twisty top did not defeat me lol. Also, LOVED the cookie. It was ordered in an attempt to be "healthy". It was a beautiful shade of chocolate color sprinkled in with some white chocolate chips, pretty contrast. There seems to be a lot of negative reviews for this place, guess I'll see how it goes as I keep going back. This Panera is right across the street from my job, so I like to go here every so often to grab lunch. I have only tried 2 of their salads, and their Mac & Cheese. All of those items have been great. Parking is no problem at all. Plenty of parking spaces. There are two entrances to the store itself. As you enter through the front, you'll see the line to order, or there are also 4-5 kiosks where you can order from if you are paying by credit card. When the line is long I tend to order from the kiosks. The two salads I've tried have been the Feta Watermelon Salad and the Greek Quinoa Salad. Both have been amazing. No complaints at all. Be forewarned that they do not have any meat in them, so you'd have to add that separately. My coworkers rave about many of the salads though so I will def be back to try some more. There is plenty of sitting if you decide to sit here. And the staff actually brings your food to your table once you sit down. The service has been super friendly and relaxed both times I have been there. I have not had any errors on my orders. I hope that my good experience continues here, and I do not start seeing the negatives that other reviewers have been stating. If that does happen, I will update my review. I come here almost every weekend (sadly) to study, and I'm not sure why there are a lot of negative reviews, although this review is for dine-in only. There's plenty of parking, and there are two entrances. At the front, they have 3-4 kiosks where you can place (and customize!) your orders, but I normally just order from my table and they serve it directly to me. The service here is pretty good and most of the workers are friendly. Also I haven't had any issues with my order thus far. This place does get pretty packed during lunch hours (12-2), so it's best to come during off-peak hours if possible. I've always loved Panera. They have many great choices of foods and are always prompt with their deliveries. But today I almost cracked my tooth from the Baja Mac and cheese I've ordered. Apparently I'm in the minority here, but this is a perfectly suitable Panera in my opinion. While I haven't used the drive-thru, I've found my experiences here are overall pleasant with few complaints. It's huge, with tons of seating, which I find that not all Paneras have (especially because many Paneras usually have a ton of people just doing work versus eating). They have self-service ordering, which makes placing your food order a breeze - just click what you want on the screen, take a table pager, sit down and wait to be served. The food has been consistent to Panera standards, though I do still find their soups and salads to be the better than their sandwiches both in quality and quantity, not to mention presentation, even at this location. The bathrooms are clean and there is a lot of parking as well. read more

This is a fairly new Panera location and it was pretty good when it opened. It has been steadily going down hill though. I've had a couple of unsatisfactory experiences here and thought it might just be an anomaly. But tonight will be my last visit. On a couple of prior visits, we began to notice the poor food preparation. And the food is expensive: for two of us, we spend about $27 or more. We ordered a Broth Bowl among our takeout items, and found it half full when we got home. I actually had to add hot water to try and make it presentable. The sandwich we ordered was unusually skimpy and haphazardly prepared - looked unappetizing. Tonight, before 7 PM, the staff seemed to be in "closing" mode. The "new" ordering kiosks had all been removed, leaving a string of poles with no screens. The one cashier went to the back somewhere, so there was no one at the register area. There were some people in the food prep area (kitchen), but it looked a mess (trash visible on the floor). I left and went to another Panera further West, which was much better. This is unfortunate, as the East Hanover location is new and conveniently located. I will likely avoid this location until they can restore it to the level of other nearby Panera stores. read more
