It's not very good at the Morristown outpost of the Millburn deli and that's really too bad. I used to love the original place when I worked in Summit but how things have changed. Placed an online order, arrived when it was communicated to be ready. Order was not ready. A walk in customer was able to place his order while I waited, and he received his order before I received mine. When I questioned this, was told that walk in customers are prioritized above on-line customers. Horrible practice, to put walk in customers ahead of those that placed an order on-line, and are waiting patiently. While the food was decent, it was not worth the extreme delay. By my watch, the delay was over 20 minutes, and still not given a good explanation as to why a walk-in customer gets priority over someone that is already at your store and ordered online. When one gets 60 minutes for lunch, waiting for 20 minutes doesn't make lunch enjoyable. There are ways to correct being short staffed, or just communicate an accurate time when the order will be ready. read more

Love me a good deli and, specifically, a great sandwich! Love their options that aren't just plain jane sandwiches. They really have some tasty, fun combinations. So far I've only tried the Godfadda (Chicken Cutlet, Bacon, Sliced Fresh Mozzarella, Russian Dressing, Sub Roll *pressed*). I found it good, not great. But that's just personal preference on the flavor profile. I've also had the Gobbler (Roast Turkey, Homemade Stuffing, Cranberry, Lettuce, Mayo, Black Pepper, Rye) which is basically Thanksgiving in a sandwich - that was good too. The red dragon specifically, with the Asian noodles and Asian ginger dressing with peppers snow peas and carrots.. SO GOOD. But look at the picture below. Welcome to the neighborhood! I have ordered here about 5x for work over the past few weeks (and have been pleasantly surprised with the quality) since I wasn't a fan of the original location. Their prices are on the higher side but the size is on the bigger side. Plus they load the sandwiches. A couple of gripes - cook the chicken more (pink inside but reheated well) and they load them with sauces sonic you don't eat it with in a short time it gets soggy ( which I don't like). Don't even bother - the terrible customer service makes the already bad & overpriced sandwich even worse. After all the hype, I finally got to check Millburn Deli out today. I called ahead and they made me pay via credit card over the phone which I questioned, I wanted to pay at the counter so I could grab a drink or maybe a side. They said all phone orders must be prepaid. I got home and unwrapped my sandwich, I took a bite and right away am unhappy. I called and complained about my sandwich because I thought I detected mayonnaise (not listed on the menu and I cannot eat mayo) and I asked for a new sandwich without the mayo. I was put on hold to be told that I was wrong about the mayo. I said regardless I am unhappy with my sandwich, I was put on hold again and then was greeted by a new voice. I stated my complaints and was not offered a solution. I was told "we can't just give out free sandwiches, Sweetheart". She said that I could bring my sandwich in for them to check it and "I will tell you the same thing that I am telling you right now". I left it at that and ended the phone call. If the customer service was even satisfactory I would overlook the flatly stacked cold cuts, wilted lettuce, nearly stale bread and that 2 out of 3 of my pickles were the sad ends. Go to Longfellows or even Subway for a better sandwich. I hope this place improves their customer service or they will not last very long in Motown. read more

Nice late summer afternoon picnic with my niece and sister-in-law at the scenic Kitchell Lake Picnic Area in the Loantaka Brook Reservation in Morristown. I've been meaning to try out the legendary N.J. Sloppy Joe sandwich, which the Millburn Deli is pretty famous for and have been hearing about for a while. Stopped in at the Morristown location for pick up (no seating or outdoor dining there and be sure to order well in advance ) and then off to the relatively nearby Loantaka Reservation where there was plenty of parking and picnic tables available. Interestingly, I've learned that the N.J. Sloppy Joe sandwich is basically only found in northern New Jersey and is not to be confused with that other Sloppy Joe, sometimes called a Manwich, with a mound of chopped meat in tomato sauce slathered on a hamburger roll. One legend has it (there are several) that in the 1930's the Mayor of Maplewood stopped in at a bar in Havana, Cuba called Sloppy Joe's where he was so impressed with the sandwich he ordered that he came home and asked the Town Hall Deli in South Orange to recreate it. The rest is history. The Sloppy Joe at the Millburn Deli some will argue is the best in N.J.. Known for it's specialty rye buole bread, brined cole slaw, extra heavy mayonnaise and Russian dressings (and of course it's meats) I have to admit it was one of the best I've ever had. Fresh, perfectly moist, deliciously prepared sandwich with all the ingredients blending together creating a tasty and substantial sandwich. My sister-in law and niece also had nothing but good things to say anout their sandwiches as well. My niece's dog's, McGee and Jessie, were alsi in hand but they didn't get a sandwich. While I often (and I mean many decades) patronize the Millburn flagship it's nice have an outpost in Morristown when I'm in the area. The food is great at both. My go to is always the Friday Special-although I miss their ham salad, which is no longer on the menu. Service was great- everyone was very friendly and you can see they have a well oiled machine going there. Seems like great teamwork going on in the kitchen area. Order took around 15 mins to get 2 goddfathers, but that's kinda what it would be like in Millburn. Sometimes the line is out the door and you just gotta wait at the Millburn location. I would never complain about their food but the service on yesterday left me a little Disturbed. It was obvious that their ordering app had a glitch, which I showed them. It directed my order to Millburn although they could plainly see I started ordering in Morristown. Originally I thought I had made a mistake and was just going to reorder until I went out to the car and tried to order again and realized what happened. Anyway their compensation was to make my sandwich, but at half price of what I already paid and that I should have verified the location again on the next page. So now I would be paying about $22 for a sandwich and bag of chips. I then just tried to place a new reorder and making sure their system did not redirect me again. It did and I verified on the next page. Well now there is no checkout button. Oh well. In addition to that I see a new rewards program that they are launching when I get home. So I also go through the steps of ordering again online and guess what, the glitch is gone. Just wondering how much we made during their system upgrade. I of course expected more after showing them but they could have cared less. They just kept repeating, I'd be glad to make it for for you at 50% more of what you already paid. I love the original location in Millburn, been going for almost 20 years! The food was 5/5 as per usual - very delicious, flavorful and always on point (dependent on what you get but I always get a custom to make sure it's exactly what I want). Unfortunately the pricing made me dock a star. The prices have been going up in recent years - I get it, they're popular and times are changing. But to charge $0.75 for regular tomato seems a bit ridiculous to me. The free included toppings should be lettuce, tomato and onion in my opinion. So to charge $0.75 for a thin slice of tomato seems a bit ridiculous. Additionally, my experience today was unpleasant with the staff here. The people in Millburn are so nice even when they've got lines of people. But there were maybe 2-3 other customers and this worker lady started yelling at us and was very rude. Maybe she couldn't hear us bc it was loud in there, fine. But after we both kept repeating ourselves and she still couldn't hear us, she caught an attitude. This was maybe a 5 second interaction. After literally 3 seconds of asking what our names were, she rolled her eyes and started actually getting angry. I could physically see that she was pissed. I get it, maybe she doesn't wanna be at her job but this interaction made no sense because we weren't doing or saying anything wrong to her for her to act like that. As a frequent visitor to the Millburn location, I was THRILLED when I learned the Morristown location was opening. But, I was hesitant. "Could a second location be as good as the OG?" As good...and maybe even better?! Millburn Deli knocks it out of the park every time. This is our go-to "we have guests in town, so what do we give them for lunch?" place. I often get a "custom" sandwich, either a CYO or a "no sauce" request, "cheddar instead please!" plea or a "hold the T and O" note and they never get it wrong. Ever. Batting 1000 when cranking out the volume of sandwiches they do is a feat on its own... but the quality is truly the unmatched star. Their chicken cutlets are the best I've had; their bread is fresher than anything I've ever bought; and they continuously find the perfect ratio of ingredients. They always nail the cold-to-hot meats, cheeses and toppings... and you never feel like you could've used a little more of anything. My favorites are of course a CYO sandwich, but also the Jay Ray, Godfadda, and the Mad Max. My husband tries something new every time and I swear he ends every meal with "ok, that one is my favorite now." You can't go wrong with Millburn Deli! read more
