Every time I come in--whether as a customer or delivery driver--I walk straight up to the counter and enter what I can only describe as a silent film. I'm literally standing right there, and everyone is either laser-focused on making sandwiches or casually scrolling on their phones off to the side, clearly dreading any form of customer interaction like it's a punishment from HR. No "Hi." No "One moment." Not even accidental eye contact. Just an awkward standoff while I question if I'm actually visible to the human eye. We just keep having issues at this Panera. Our last 3 visits: One-we attempted to order online it said they were out of every side option. Two-the salad dressing was omitted from our take-out order. Today-no counter service so after placing kiosk order we had to wait in queue. Therefore, with only 2 UNtoasted bagels and black coffees (which you pump yourself), we had to wait 15 minutes behind everything being cooked. And once we received our empty cups and bagels and returning home we realized only 1 bagel had been sliced and a cream cheese was omitted. With consistent issues, I suppose it's time to call it quits here or accept this as the norm. So my twenty year old is counting calories or macros or protein or carbs or something and wanted a chicken based salad and really I just did NOT wanna cook. Also it was 7:45pm at night on a hard Monday, and I did not wanna go anywhere. I am just stubborn like that. Door Dash here we go. I have never been a big Panera fan. My dad and evil stepmom loved it but it is kinda chainy, a bit bland, overly salty, and too darn strip mall for me. I also think it is a tad expensive. But the kid landed on a barbecue chicken salad that met the nutritional criteria so there we were. The black bean and corn salsa were the selling point. I make that or used to so it is on kid's chosen acoutrement list. Their website told us they were out of a lot of things because of supply chain issues: turkey ( so much for my standard club or turkey avocado sandwich), chipotle ( ditto the chipotle chicken sandwich), and some other bits like the wonton chips for the Asian salad or toppings for other items. I chose a Napa Almond Chicken salad sandwich on sourdough with things in it I am not supposed to eat at all because of my post colon cancer situation ( celery, grapes, sliced tomato) and I added gouda for a lot of money. It came with a tiny bag of decent kettle chips and a nice crunchy strip of dill pickle. Kid's salad came with a choice of baguette or apple. Kid chose the apple, asking " why don't you buy red apples?" ( um because I don't like them lol). We also got 4 chocolate chip cookies which kid refused to eat at all so I had them over the next couple days. Kid enjoyed the salad stating it needed more chicken. Also deemed the apple " decent." I did not get a photo. Kid ate it whilst playing online games with friends and I was waved away. Oh well. Kid was happy and nourished. The goal was met. My sandwich was shockingly good. The bread was really nice. The chicken salad was not overly salty or mayonnaise-y, so I really enjoyed it. The lettuce was fresh, the cheese was great, and it barely had any grapes or celery present which was fine with me. The chips and pickle hit the spot. The chocolate chip cookies were bomb. At 390 calories each, kid noted, they ought to be. I did not want to know that. Seriously. They were the perfect texture between hard and gooshy with a good amount of semi sweet chocolate chunks. I would eat them again. I put one in the freezer, we will see how that holds up later. Not sure we would go again, cuz I prefer mom and pop or at least local joints, but it was not terrible. Been here 3 times and every single time they've got my order wrong while also being rude.

So this is going to me less of a review and more of a suggestion. We have been getting bagels from Panera for a while. When they were first introduced, they were way below average but they have gotten considerably better over time. I have noticed that the bagels have a much larger diameter and are thinner (not as thick) as other bagel makers. This, along with the cleft in the dough, (see picture) makes it very difficult to get an even slice through the bagel. I do enjoy having even slices on my bagel especially if I am adding eggs or other delicious toppings to it. Just wanted to pass this on to the marketing department. Women please read this! If you are a woman and you need to use the restroom at this location, the female manager will NOT take any action to keep you safe or protect you from being harassed in the woman's bathroom or in the restaurant by a predatory male employee. My wife was in the women's restroom. A male employee knocked, she answered- so he knew someone was present. He said, "I am just doing the trash!" She asked him to leave and give her a minute to finish up. He ignored her request, came in anyway and repeated himself with a Machiavellian tone, "I am just doing the trash!" She was extremely uncomfortable- She asked him to leave -again. He didn't leave. He emptied the sink's bin, then made his way into the handicapped stall, he was eerily quiet. What was he doing in there for so long - She told him to "get out" again-which he ignored. The stalls have large cracks between the door and the stall wall. The door barely locks. The stall walls are short. An expectation of privacy is barely minimal in the first place. Enter a male employee behaving like a predator and the sense of personal safety is gone-and management does not care. My wife was alone in this restroom with her pants down -with a predator who is "just doing his job! This employee refused her requests to get out. She was scared and went straight to the counter for help! She asked for the manager. I saw her face, she was upset, shaking and told me what happened. At that point a young male with dark hair presented himself to be "the manager." He listened carefully. Manager 1 apologized and just stood there uncertain what to do. My wife asked, "Now what?" As a manager, he was obviously unprepared to contend with the situation presented. Manager 1 looked overwhelmed and offered no emotional or verbal articulation. He turned and went to the back. We waited for a while. Then Korey asked if we needed help. We said we were waiting for the manager. She said, "I am the manager." (Manager #2) My wife explained everything again. She identified the employee- who at that moment walked by again, stared at us with the biggest self-congratulatory grin on his face. With concern for his lack of social awareness my wife asked him, "Are you proud of your behavior?" He replied with an impertinent tone, "I'm.Just.Doing.My.Job!" He strutted to the back of the store. He implied: "nothing is going to happen to me- management doesn't believe you! I won't get fired!" Manager #2 told my wife, "Stop talking to my employee." ---Manager 2 is defending an employee who is behaving in a predatory manner. My wife whispered, "Cancel our dinner, get a refund and let's go. I reiterated, "This male employee came into the women's restroom harassed and preyed on my wife's inability to leave immediately. He knows he's invading her privacy. How much clearer does this need to be?" Manager #2 escalated: justifying and defending the male employee, "He knocked!" I asked, "what is the point in knocking if he just comes in anyway?" She boasted, "He was 'just doing his job!'" Hearing Manager #2 defend his behavior, the employee walked by again staring us down- grinning from ear to ear. Manager #2 did not say anything to him. I asked her, "Is this really ok with you?" She repeated herself," I didn't see what happened?! I asked her, "So, what you are saying is- in order for you, to take this matter seriously, you would have to walk in the restroom with your customer and personally see this happen?" and "Because you did not see this, you are doing nothing -and that it's ok with you?" Manager #2 replied in a condescending tone, "Well...what do you want me to do-I'm giving you your money back!" At this point, it was futile, Manager #2 has no experience in listening to a customer's concerns or resolving this matter. Manager #2 does not care about customer safety. Manager #2 does not care that I will be contacting Panera's Corporate Headquarters. Manager #2 said, "You're are more than welcome to contact my supervisors. The restrooms are labeled clearly: Men. This is a very busy location with a fairly tragic parking lot. There are several other businesses which are also really busy right here so be prepared to wait a minute or a few. The bathroom is tiny and also VERY busy. Use the kiosks...they have a pile of them which are a very rapid way to order and you can skip the lines which are usually pretty long but you can just order fast, swipe your card and boom done. They are pretty quick at getting your food out as well which is rather nice. My personal favorite is the green goddess salad which is just ridiculously tasty. A nice combo of greens, avocado, bacon, chicken, an egg, pickled red onion and this to die for basil dressing. I come here almost daily and this is a spot for regulars. So far, I've really enjoyed my experiences here especially due to the morning staff. They throw on a smile and try their best to make sure you find what you're looking for. 1 out of 5 times I do think the prepared food tastes a bit off from the usual, but it's still overall okay. However, I haven't had any issues with their baked goods, which is always well packaged and sliced as according to the order notes. I got my food extremely fast which was nice since I never have time anyway due to only getting a 30 minute break but today was not good. When I ordered I got a turkey sandwich with chips and a drink. I love this Panera. It is my "go to" place in the morning. I have their free coffee subscription at $8.99/month, and have not brewed my own coffee at home since enrolling. The large light roast is perfect in the morning as I just like coffee and no other flavorings and additives. They have an electronic tablet so that all you have to do is put in your phone number and you can self serve your coffee "to go" or to dine in. Real coffee cups are provided if you want to dine in. The dining area and ambience is so pleasant. I see so many groups of our beloved elderly sit together. It makes for a nice environment. Jesse is a wonderful staff member that goes around to make sure everything is running well in the dining area. His help when I was working on a project was gratefully received - he is a sweetheart. It's wonderful to be a regular as he looks out for me. When I left my purse, he rushed out to bring it out to me as I was leaving. I find the manager there also professional and friendly as I was getting to know this Panera. The bakery items are always fresh and I especially like their sourdough bread bowl for $2.99. I get it sliced to go typically. I eat light so I especially like the morning sandwich of egg and avocado. As much as I like Starbucks, this is my go to place for a nicer ambience and the simple fact that I just like plain coffee. Maybe the prices are a little high for food, but once you go there, they do run specials and you get discounts on bakery and food items. Historically we like Panera. It's not amazing, but it's decent. I have a family member who buys me Panera gift cards from Fred Meyer. And they don't have a PIN. So their website won't take their giftcard and you have to call in an order. So she gets the order, several items, they're out of ciabatta bread, etc. etc. Then her computer froze. She said she just couldn't take my order at all for several minutes. Something similar happened last time, but the manager told me the easiest thing was to make me the order and I'd just pay with the GC on arrival. This employee said that wasn't allowed anymore. She suggested I drive over, place my order upon arrival. It's Covid, so that is the worst of both worlds--hang out in a building with people eating but still get half-warm takeout? Uh, no. And I could hear kids screaming while I talked to her. So I still have a gift card and I will be checking out a different location. I've finally had it with Panera's overpriced foods and supposed in house fresh bakery items (many local bakeries actually are delivered to panera) and most recently ridiculous changes too many to go over here but (pushing (fountain drinks in subscriptions to menu items quality options disappearing or costing twice as much app ordered). They keep increasing costs every 3 months cookies are up to 6$ to 7 dollar coffees/smoothies that are full of artificial ingredients and sweeteners even trans fats in bowls. My husband loves a simple but classic chicken Caesar salad but won't eat paneras because the lettuce is nothing but romaine stem hunks you can't hide in salads with 3 ingredients. The fruit strawberries poppyseed salad is my goto seasonal favorite and they've changed quality ingredients and even removed options they've had for years no explanation for but staples I've loved so long. The app now only offers feta and Parmesan cheese not cheddar Gouda mozzarella or Gorgonzola. The strawberries aren't organic and sliced only for decorations to entice what once tasted fresh full of former glory filled flavor. Meats doubled to 3$ additions also only offering chicken or 4$ bacon chunks that taste days old and always dried out. Power blend veggies added a great combo of flavors to the mixed greens but again missing now. While pay options climb in cost replacing them. Limited customizations have been reduced the last couple years and when they're out of an ingredient u removing it becomes one of them. Customer service is 2/5 ie 2 out of every 5 times do they have what I've ordered via app in person at pick it up and if they can will let u leave not even offering an alternative forcing u to drive back or call for refund. It's now always necessary to check every item before leaving and then having to wait in line to sub or refund kills online ordering to avoid the long wait and selling out whilst waiting line for alternatives is often the result. It's gone from 12$ for a half salad to 18$ in the last 3 years. All these issues at the Hillsboro Panera vs the Tualitin valley branch we sadly had to move away from to Hillsboro for work at intel is why I've spent over a decade trying to make due with so much decline in quality, service and exorbitant price hikes every few months blaming shortages to shutdowns nothing has improved and costs hundreds more a year. "Free sips" is PAY for free fountain sodas full of 40-70g of sweeteners (obesity and diabetes are rampant), plus artificial everything from preservatives to caffeine (dangerous like a drug they ignored warnings for children's stunted development and in pregnancy defects only recognized two months ago finally in app) and fountain drinks are Pennie's on the dollar for what they cost to mass produce. As for my last straw and this farewell review my last 3 bakery items were sold to me with mold. I've extremely allergic to molds and I ended up intake choking on my muffin and needed emergency steroids plus coughing weeks later. The 6$ kitchen sink cookie packaged separately looked ok but to be safe much to my husbands anticipated joy then grave disappointment was mold infused as well. Desperate for a great strawberry poppyseed salad and long time favorite kitchen sink cookie we decided to drive the extra 20 mins each way to the cedar hills Panera hoping for a reprieve and occasional replacement for the Hillsboro nightmares for our craved favs only ti have them stale, molded and the salad I've loved mushy, flavorless and half the ingredients missing. The cedar hills customer service was much better and they refunded most their mistakes with understanding thankfully. And if in a year or so Panera actually cares about customer retention serving quality healthier products in their former glory or like the Tualitin valley location a decade ago I'd only try the cedar hills Panera again. That said it's probably more likely a new great tasting health improved restaurant would replace this pitiful Panera Hillsboro branch by falling out of the clear blue sky on top of it wizard of oz style and saved us all. read more
