Since this is a chain restaurant, there's no too much original I can say about Panera. This place is always, always cram-packed. Even during "off" times (i.e., 3pm), it is not unusual for all tables to be filled. Sometimes they run out of stuff, like mac and cheese. God, that stuff is good. Also the cornbread steak chili. Yum yum. Their seasonal items are just the best. Can I just say I love the new "My Panera" card? That thing makes going to Panera that much more fun. I always wonder what my next little "reward" will be. So far I have gotten a free espresso/juice drink, $1 off any beverage, and a free pastry. None of them have been anything I wouldn't use. As for this particular location, the service is great, especially for the crush of people they are constantly trying to keep up with. The employees seem to be mainly local college students. I've never had a problem with them, and they are usually pretty friendly and quick. A lot of people take advantage of the tasty snacks, coffee, and free wi-fi to do some work. Personally, it gets too crowded and noisy in there for me to be able to work well there, so I usually just eat and go. Space can also be a big issue here. I guess one of the biggest complaints I hear about Panera is the price, particularly from thrifty Michigan residents. Yes, the prices are a bit high for this area. Just keep in mind that the food is typically quite tasty, uses many organic ingredients, and fresh baked bread is available every day. So yes, that means you pay a bit more. This whole fast lane bullshit is crap. Placed an order and left to pick it up cuz they're quick. It was a big order (for 6), but when I got there it wam going to be over 50 minutes to pick it up. I got the baked potato soup and frontega chicken panini on the you pick two menu. I wasn't too sure about the baked potato soup, but one of the cashiers was kind enough to get me a sample. I decided to go with it. The one thing I wasn't too happy with is the other cashier. He forgot to ask me for my panera card so I didn't get my credit or points or whatever they call it. Last time I ever visit this panera location, I ordered a Mediterranean veggie sandwich which was $11 and I bit into it and looked inside and there was a fly sitting right inside of it. Pure disgust. I'm a vegetarian for gods sake. Then I decided to give them a second chance & come back for a coffee. Carmel latte & they brought me a regular black coffee with no whipped cream so I called them and asked for a new one they brought me another plain coffee so I took it upon myself to walk in and make sure it was correct & finally it was made. I usually go to Panera for their baked goods and sandwiches but decided to try their salads today. I got the Cobb salad for me and my wife had the lime southwest salad. I would characterize both salads as no better than those I have had at McDonalds in the past. I also had several bits of greens that was completely brown. For a company that markets based on "clean" food, I would say that they failed to live up to their own claims. Will not be getting the salads again. read more

Panera is my "go to" eatery when I'm traveling and am not in a mood to be adventurous. I got into Kalamazoo late on a Saturday, was dog tired, was running the Kalamazoo Marathon the next morning and just wanted a decent meal. Walked into this place at 8:30pm, was treated courteously and quickly, even though the staff had had a long day. Great sandwich, Wi-Fi worked perfectly, I ate quietly and quickly and was on my way. We arrived at this Panera and went to the Kiosk to order our food. We tried to add multiple items and they all said out of stock. We ask an employee and she said none of it was out of stock expect the bread. Confused, we continued to order our food with the employee. Our food eventually came and it had bread on the side. Also the women said they were out of green tea and lemonade which was also incorrect because we walked over to the drinks and saw both were full. Very disappointed in our service. Panera has always been one of my go to restaurants when I'm in a hurry. I rarely ever stand in line seeing as I usually order from their app directly for pick up. I honestly don't think that I would ever be brave enough to wait in the line that I usually see around lunchtime. The food is good... When it's right. I'd say that six times out of 10 they get it right. That's definitely frustrating for me since inconsistency seems to be a theme depending on who's working. If I'm going to pay 5+ dollars for half of a tiny sandwich, I want to be right, and I want to be right every single time. This Panera is not as efficient as the others in the area. The last time I was there the girl at the counter was listening to a conversation with other employees and I had to wait for her to finish before she would take my order. I actually had to interrupt her... then she got my drink order wrong. As I was waiting for my drink, I watched her do the same thing to the next person in line. The manager walked thru 3 times and didnt' say a word to her or the other employees. With unemployment the way it is, I would think they could get better help. Panera is my go-to for a healthy lunch (I fancy the green goddess chicken cobb salad with balsamic vinaigrette), free fountain drink and coffee refills, and wifi. I ordered the chicken tortellini Alfredo -- for the price I paid was ridiculous -- it was dry, three of the tortellini shells were stuck together and cold, where was the chicken and sauce? "dreadful" to quote Gordon Ramsay. Service - let's talk about the service today - as I was waiting for my to-go order, the man behind me, who ordered after I did - got his order before because he was.a "regular" -- the lady putting together the orders carried on quite a conversation with him -- then she just "threw" my order in a bag and "tossed" it on the counter with a barely "thank you and have a good day". Horrible service. We put an online order to be pick up at 6:05. When we got there at 6, we had to wait until 6:30 to get the food. Workers were moving slow and didn't seem to care about the large number of customers waiting. When we finally got our order there were items missing, and so we inquired about it, but no one seemed to be able to help us. After asking someone we waited for 10 minutes, but they seemed to forget, so we had to ask again before finally getting the food. I visit this location quite frequently and just want to say that they have some of the friendliest staff at any Panera I go to. I always feel like my business is appreciated here, and the food is excellent. Even when there has been an item unavailable or even a mistake made in my to go order; it was handled without any hassle. Food has become rather hit and miss as is trying to order over the phone to avoid a wait. Seldom do they answer the phone and now, the french bread is awful.
