Let's be clear, I am a Panera fan even though this review doesn't seem to show my Panera love. Now, I rarely visit Panera for breakfast. However, this one is off my list. Now the food was yummy. The offerings were the same. The prices the same. That is about where the similarities end. The service was SLOW. Now I did order in house to take out. However, the people working were spending more time making personal orders for a run to a nearby grocery store and discussing their personal lives (tmi). The one person who was "working" was doing all the orders, even prepping the eggs for the sandwiches, etc. He was kind and apologetic. That doesn't cover the other 5, literally, employees NOT working. Not to mention that when you alter an espresso drink the request goes to the food line. They didn't pass it on. So they had to remake the drink as well. Hmmm. There has to be a better plan. By the time, I got back to the car my husband has sent me three texts wondering where I was. It's kind of sad. This could be a Panera we frequent often on our trips to Michigan. However, that's MOT homing to happen. I heard enough about their lives. I am good. read more

The main complaint was that the food took forever to be prepared, several other orders that were placed long after ours came out ahead of ours, and no apology was offered for the wait. A business ran by teenagers that yields service equivalent to that of McDonald's. I spent nearly half an hour waiting for my order or name to be sound off, It never did. Had I never stoop up and walked to the counter I would have waited all day for my order. I likely would have blamed myself for their mistake if 4 other orders weren't sitting next to mine waiting for patrons to figure out their food was ready. read more

Th his Panera location has gone downhill lately. We have been going there since it opened and have enjoyed it but over last few months of has hit the bottom. They are frequently out of one or more types of bread. Good appears to be put together in a rush in a sloppy manner On line orders are mostly wrong even after the manager's check. Makes you wonder what do they check or maybe the problem starts at the top. We also frequent the Panera on I 294 at O'hare oasis. What a classy joint and perfect service. Food is always high quality and carefully prepared. Michigan city manager should go there to observe and learn. read more

We stopped here while traveling on the road coming from CO. Panera usually has good food and good service. We checked online and it said they were open until 9:00. It was almost 7:00 so thought we had plenty of time. We walk in very hungry and they tell us they close at 7:00. Disappointing! Second Panera that did this to us while traveling. What the heck? Anyway they took our order and we thought we could eat there-other people were still in there. We ordered soup and salad. They handed us a take out bag. Ok we eat in the truck I guess. We open the bag-no spoons for soup, the salad was terrible lookingl-lots of wilted, rusty looking lettuce and no chicken on it. We ordered two Fuji apple chicken. Doors were locked-couldn't go back in to complain or get spoons. Drank the soup and ate about less than half of the salad after picking through it. We will never stop there again. Awful!!! read more

This location has a beautiful looking building, and when you go inside it very easy for the wonderful staff to take care of your order. I would highly recommend the French Onion soup with the steak and white cheddar Panini, but watch for the powerful sauce they put on it, it has a kick. read more

I haven't been to panera in years. And let's just say after this visit I won't go that long again. I had the broccoli cheddar soup on a bread bowl and it was so good. The general manager Linda was also very accommodating. She saw that our food wasn't ready and immediately went back and had it brought out. Geez the entitled, whining losers who write reviews sometimes. I'm giving this place a five star just to make up for your cranking. YES good service is important but it's only part of a restaurant experience. Tell me about your food...and don't give folks one measly star just because they didn't have the bread you wanted five minutes before closing, or one of the staff wasn't on their game that day. For pity's sake. Firstly: Panera Corp has SO upped their quality in the last few years. Their salads are off-the-hook delicious, with excellent dressings and superior quality ingredients: quinoa, kale, and baby greens mixes have replaced their romaine-only offerings, to terrific effect. You can get a salad here loaded with protein --not just chicken, but quinoa, nuts, cheese, and other choices. Nor do they skimp on the expensive meat: I've never felt I needed more meat, and am sometimes rooting around for more greens, something unheard of at other places. Top notch. The only small change I'd make on this front is for them to STOP REFRIGERATING their tomatoes, which ruins the flavor. But lots of places make his mistake ...not unique to Panera. I had fine service here. The place is clean. Tables around me were lovingly cleaned when people left. Everyone was cordial and helpful. Two large groups of old friends had clearly met here to push tables together, have a meal an some fellowship. It was nice to see. I can't wait until they turn on their gas fire ...love that touch. My drive thru order was for 3 items and realized I only received 2 items AFTER I arrived home. The item that was missing cost me $10 and a disappointing dinner! I might suggest shutting down your drive thru since it is seeming much to complicated to manage. This is my last visit to Michigan City Panera . read more

WORST PANERA EVER!! I felt very threatened by the staff who egged on a customer to harass me after I complained that the bacon egg and cheese sandwich was cool and had been sitting there 15 minutes without calling my name. We were right by the counter and would've heard our name being called . They were making my smoothie which of course should've been made first since it was the cold item. This was a to go item so it should've been piping hot. It should not take 15 minutes to make a smoothie . So this crazy screaming man who had to wait 30 seconds behind me in line while I asked the cashier what a brioche bun looked like goes crazy on me saying f you b'tch you made me wait in line/ stop whining and he got in my face . The gal who was very sarcastic to me laughed at him harassing me, did not apologize . When the smoothie was finally up, she screams my name and was very sarcastic saying , " OH LEEEEEESSA!! YOOOOO HOOOOOOO! My husband who heard and saw everything got closer to me to protect me and quickly grabbed the smoothie and said we feel threatened and left . When we got back to the hotel room , we realized that the smoothie was not strawberry like we ordered but strawberry banana. Our son is allergic to bananas, so we dumped it. We will be calling corporate and a BBB complaint too. Won't be visiting low IQ trashy country Indiana anymore. read more

I ordered the soup and after I sat down 10 minutes later a waitress came by and told me that they were OUT OF BROCCOLI CHEDDAR SOUP! OK, I really wanted to give this more than two stars, It got two because everytime I have to go back to have my order fixed the manager and the staff have always been very nice and apolgetic, but the thing is that you shouldn't have to keep going back to have your food orders corrected. I have visited this location about 6 times already and I keep thinking OK maybe the next time it will be better but so far it isn't happening yet. First of all their drive thru is really slow, like every time I have gone in it, which would be about 4 of the 6 times I have gone there I have waited more than 10-15 minutes. Either the problem lies with the people ordering in the drive through are doing super big breakfast orders like for their entire office and it takes a while for the staff to gather that order. I'm sorry but big orders like this should not be done through the drive thru, so that part might be just ignorant customers that don't realize if you are buying breakfast for your entire office and you have a super long complicated order, park your car and go inside. My thought process has always been that drive-thru service is for very quick, easy simple, I know what I want lets get in and out kind of orders. Another part of this problem is that Panera has no extra spaces to ask these people to pull over to the side and have someone come out with your order, which is what they logically should do in situations like this. When it's early in the morning before 8am most people going through a drive thru are getting a morning coffee and bagel/danish/sandwich etc, not ordering for an entire office staff. So Panera take that into consideration since you have a drive thru, do some common sense things that other places do like Culvers, they have you pull over and park and someone comes out with your order, not wait at the cashier window for 10 minutes making every other person in line wait for your long order to be filled. The second bad part about this Panera is that every single time I have been in there they have gotten something wrong with the order, it's worse when you go through the drive-thru and get all the way to work only to find they made the wrong sandwich and then you either eat what you didn't order and pay for or take time away from work and drive all the way back there and get your correct order. I can honestly see this happen once in a while, but I have been there 6 times since they opened and every time I have gone in there is something wrong with the order, they just can't seem to get it right. Today was the Mediterranean Egg White Sandwich, they gave me a fried egg with the egg yolk not an egg white only, and they did not put the spinach on or the pesto, I had a fried egg with egg yolk and some chopped tomato stuff and some cheese. So I had to go back and get the correct sandwich. :-( No Bueno.... The good thing is that the staff is always really pleasant and very friendly but for the other issues it just doesn't seem to make up for the long waits and messed up food orders. I think since I'll be moving to Michigan city soon and this will now be my home I'll probably stick to the family owned restaurant Panini Panini in town instead of Panera.. read more

I. Love. Panera Bread. I am so happy I don't have to drive 45 minutes to Valpo for Panera anymore. My favorite is their Broccoli Cheese soup in a bread bowl. I am not a fan of their sandwiches, but I've only tried the cold ones and their grilled cheese. So maybe I'll try a panini next time. read more

Really pleasant and attentive manager (lunch on 9/25). She checked on us while we were eating and happened to notice something on our check that we could have saved money on but I had overlooked.
